NCMP queries Israel arms sales; Foreign Minister cites national security

- During the Parliament sitting on 2 July, NCMP Leong Mun Wai asked Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan about the total official aid given to Palestinians over the past ten years and whether Singapore has made any defense sales to Israel since 7 October 2023.
In response, Minister Balakrishnan stated that he did not have the total aid figures for the past ten years but highlighted the S$10 million Enhanced Technical Assistance Package, scholarships, and three tranches of humanitarian assistance, including 20 tonnes of aid delivered by the Republic of Singapore Air Force to Gaza in March.
He mentioned ongoing fundraising efforts by Singaporeans, totaling at least S$15.5 million so far. He suggested Leong submit a separate question for the ten-year total.
Regarding defense sales, Minister Balakrishnan assured that Singapore strictly complies with international obligations and UN sanctions, submitting regular reports to the UN Register of Conventional Arms.
He emphasized that it is government policy not to publicly divulge details of defense sales for national security reasons.
It should be noted that Israel is not under any UN sanctions or embargo.
All nations should voice out against genocides and apartheid and stop supplying weapons to these occupier regimes

Its a well known internatiinal law that whoever engages in sales of arms with countries which are wanted by the ICJ to be commiting crimes against humanity aswell.

Any ministers withheld information in parliament should be rebuke or fine. If confidential can hold a closed sessions.

There are different clearance levels for confidential information, I am sure LMW is not privy to such information.
