Sun Xueling: Convicted foreigners with multiple passports can choose their deportation destination

- Sun Xueling, Minister of State for Home Affairs and for Social and Family Development, confirmed that foreigners convicted of offences in Singapore and facing deportation can specify their preferred deportation destination.
However, Ms Sun on Tuesday (2 July) clarified in response to a parliamentary question filed by Ms Sylvia Lim, Workers' Party MP for Aljunied GRC, that it is not simply a matter of offenders stating “I choose and therefore I will be sent there.”
She elaborated, stating, “There needs to be an assessment by the ministry as to whether or not the individual can be admissible to the country, based on the travel document that he or she holds.”
Ms Lim asked about the factors considered in determining the deportation destinations for convicted foreigners after they complete their sentences, particularly in light of the recent billion-dollar money laundering case.
In response, Ms Sun stated: “Such foreigners can go to any country to which their passport or travel document allows them to go. This applies similarly to the convicted foreigners in the S$3 billion money laundering case.”
Sylvia Lim’s questions are pretty straightforward
I think the question should be clearer if sylvia ask :
1)assuming that the subject who is a cambodian holds 2 valid passport say eg cambodia & australia.
2) after spore ministry check & verify that they can be admisible to both cambodia or australia.
In this case, can the subject choose the country to be deported to?
This is one of her Best efforts imho

Of course Sylvia did not mean choice of whatever countries the convicted criminal wants but choice into countries he has passport or permit to enter to. In fact, the lady pap MP already said using the word ,"chosen" to go to Cambodia or Japan where they are allowed to enter. But then the lady pap MP also said the authority assessed and sort of decided for them? I may have misinterpreted? If so, it's not the choice of convicts??

If they had served their sentenced, and free to go out of jail, and sg choose to deport them, why they can’t choose? If the offender is a country A and B citizen, they have their rights to choose right?

Is SXL trying to mean if I hold a Swedish, Korean and UK passport for example, I commit a crime in Singapore, I serve my sentence etc here in Singapore, near the end of my sentence, I can choose to be deported to the US at the end of my sentence as at least one of my multiple passports allow me to enter the US freely and easily and my request for admission into US at the end of my sentence in Singapore is accepted by the US even though I’m wanted by another country, let’s say France?
Perhaps like a plea bargain..or you must have the $$$ to fund your travel

i really dun understand what type of standard sun xueling is she talking about ..holding few country passport but sill need to ensure the country allow the passport to enter the country ...is it telling us the passport is fake ? so must wait for the country to clarify then can deport?the country issuse the passport ,but cant use the passport to go back .need clearance? or she mean... if i buy a house ...i got the keys and document ,but cannot enter the house i brought..cos must let the house to clearance me first ,then i can enter?..so i holding sg passport ..if i want to come back home ..must also apply permit to enter ?
The crux is to deport them asap and that the receiving country will readily accept them. I don’t think China will reject them if Singapore choose to deport them back to China? They are probably wanted there. Why Cambodia? Probably part of the terms when they pleaded guilty and agreed to the forfeiture.

Sylvia should have asked did the convicted had the choice to choose to go to countries they have permit to reside in and not asked about canada or any country in such a broad manner. The point of the questions is to uncover if an agreement was being made between the convicts to the countries they wish to be deported in exchange for them to surrender their assets - Clearly there are certain degree of avoidance with the reply for further probe.
Hypothetically, if a china national who did lots of heinous crimes in China want to escape being returned to China if caught for money laundering jn sg use cambodia passport to escape being deported back to China ? I am not saying this is a loophole. I am saying majulah singpura

Actually the subject CAN choose, because they have served their sentenced, and cased closed, they are free to go to any country of their country of choice if they hold multiple nationality passport. I mean why not? *Shake head* this is parliament?
