I've never really worked on my own cars but with videos like these, it makes it possible for me. I installed the Barton short throw yesterday on my hellcat and I think the cdv delete is next on my list. Thanks, man! I appreciate the video and all the extra time it took you to film and edit
This literally is simple. The biggest point of contention for is is getting under any car. I knew 2 people in my teens who had cars fall on them, though I know they weren't supported properly but it still scares me. I got my RT up on 2 jackstands and 2 wheel ramps and slid under to install the skip shift eliminator and I looked over at that port for the CDV and though it cant be that easy. I did the whole thing one handed, though I had to use long needle nose pliers to get the clip out without losing it. I inserted a long pocket hole screw because of the exaggerated threads, made 3 turns with slippery fluid on my fingers and both items came right out. I am about to go bleed it and take the wife out on a date night and a long cruise to see how it feels, just dropped in to thank you for the vid, it made it simple.
Yeah.. absolutely.. make sure those jack stands are solid.. doesn't hurt to throw a spare tire under either for a fail safe.. glad you got it knocked out.. really does help. Have a good one man.
I deleted my cdv the day I bought my Scat Pack and today I’m swapping out the stock ATF to AMSOIL ATF and this is the best video that I could find online. The first two I found the owners didn’t remove the crossmember and made a huge mess. I’m absolutely not doing that! Lol. Thanks for posting this up and I hope you had your 3rd gear issue resolved 😎👍
Lol.. awesome! No man.. unfortunately I'm still 5 speeding it, too many other things taking my time. From what I have found talking to some companies I shouldn't have gone to a synthetic fluid.. its slicker and may aid in the synchros slipping.
@@Sketchyrooster Mopar says that their ATF + 4 is fully synthetic so I don’t think that’s the case. Hope not anyways! I’m swapping fluid now and will report back if I have any issues
@@Sketchyrooster Well I got my Scat up on my buddy Raven’s lift yesterday and did an oil change, tremec gearbox fluid change, and rear axle fluid change all with AMSOIL. So the bad news is now I only have 1st and 6th gear. Nawwww, just kidding! Everything is better than ever! I bought this new so nobody has abused it in anyway but my transmission never felt smooth. Especially cold and 2nd gear shift. I have a Barton installed in case anyone is wondering. So after dropping the car down off the lift I took it for a spin and I absolutely could not believe the difference! Night and day! So smooth and effortless. Even the neutral noises that are detailed in the owners manual as “normal” sound better. I’m literally blown away. Next test was this morning at 39 degrees. Flawless. So I hope anyone reading this goes ahead and follows Sketchyrooster’s awesome video write up and has just as good of results as I. And for your missing gear Sketchyrooster, I would just have Dodge replace the synchro. That’s what everyone at the shop who I described your issue too said is the problem. Hopefully your under Powertrain warranty! Good luck Mopar Buddy 😎👍
Awesome man.. no my car is out of warranty. I'll get to it.. but yes third gear synchro just needs replacement, and from what I was told I'll probably find some other things that need attention while in there.. man I'm so glad you had such good luck with your fluid changes and all.. IT'S SO NICE when all is working as it should! Have a good one man.
CDV.. Clutch Delay Valve.. it literally slows the engagement and disengagement.. I was having problems with clutch engagement/disengagement and first thing this one transmission guy I talked to asked about was wether I had deleted the CDV. It's a very common thing among Mopar and BMWs Mustangs I believe. Didn't see Camaros mentioned.. but didn't look.
@@jbfpv163 lol.. realize how my first post looks now... I didn't mean that at all. I meant I don't have the lockout.. it doesn't lock me out.. I already have the skip shift eliminator installed..
I have a brand new 2020. I notice shifting into 2nd and 3rd it would feel crunchy/notchy. It wasnt a buttery smooth shift every time. Ive just hit over 1000 miles and now i don't seem to get those notchy shifts. ID assume it needed break in but my 19 never needed it. I do believe I got a notchy shift in my 19 but it was rare. My 20 was almost every time I drove it. Does removing the CDV fix this? Although Im not sure its a issue now. Now the only issue I have is i can feel a thud sometimes in the trans going into 2nd. My guess is thats normal. Would that be accurate? Its not even rough driving. I can accelerate to 11 MPH in 1st, press clutch and leave it pressed for a second or 2. Then shift to 2nd and i can ever so slightly feel a very light thud. Clutch is still depressed when this happens so i havent reengaged the drive shaft yet
Well... Astro Performance, that was recommended to me on Challenger Forumz, said first thing to do is a CDV delete.. and then proceeded to tell me about synchro materials.. when i emailed back that I had already done the CDV delete he responded well thats good.. so we know thats not the issue. It shifts wayyy better. I regret not doing it sooner. But my 3rd gear synchro is toast and still waiting to get it in the shop. If you do end up doing it comment with what you feel about it, would like to know if it makes a difference for others.. later.
@@Sketchyrooster Im not sure if I will. My challenger came from the factory with a bad rack and pinion. Got a call today the new one is in. So hopefully Tuesday they can fit me in. I wonder if they can just take it out for me when they have my car up. But like I said at 1000 mile my crunchy shifts seem to have gone away. Im at 1200 now. Hasnt really happened in the last 200 miles. Hope all goes well with the rack and pinion. I want my car 100% so i can start doing everything to it. First up is to spend 2 days ceramic coating it, mid deletes next and I have a ton of luxe carbon fiber wrap for the side markers, tail lights and mid tail light Dodge section.
I understand.. yeah man. Hope all goes well with the rack.. its not necessarily about fixing crunchy or notchy shifting.. i don't have a problem with any other gear as far as notchiness or nibbling.. and didn't before the cdv delete. It just shifts better.. the CDV slows disengagement and engagement. Good luck man.
@@Sketchyrooster ah thanks man. Thats the issue I had. Some shifts would be buttery smooth going into gear. Other times it would feel crunchy going in. I wanted a nice smooth shift every time. Just pumped the clutch... yeah may not have been necessary but I read a couple places you were supposed to.. just pump the clutch.. so it would bleed itself.. we weren't opening and closing a bleeder valve.. so.. a auto bleeding clutch, it makes sense that in order to be bleed it needs to be operated? So as in if I didn't pump it a bunch at once it would bleed overtime driving it? Do you have info to the contrary?
Yes sir.. most manual transmissions use ATF.. I actually meant to order synchromax by royal purple.. but accidentally ordered the max atf.. (both are synthetic) I am gonna switch to a straight mercon/dexron 3 ATF or gm synchromesh.. which is thicker than the synthetic fluids.. and this will allow more aggressive shifts at higher rpm.. per ASTRO performances email to me. (The place I'm gonna get my new synchros from when I rebuild it)

Why do you delete the CDV? What does it do that warrants deleting it?

You need to do the skip shift solenoid
Yeah I don't have skip shift.
That would eliminate the lockout between 1st and 2nd, 2nd to 3rd
Yeah that's what I'm saying.. mine already has skip shift eliminated.. thanks though.

It's always a good idea to remove the filler plug before draining the unit. If you drain it first and can't get the filler plug out you are screwed.
Roger. I reached up and tested it at some point.. and it was easy.. good point to make though
Looks like you got a one legger
Umm.. both spun.. just passenger side spun more..
What clutch are you using?
It's the stock clutch...
if u ain't pulling a trailer or hauling quit using multi weight tranny fluids - use straight 50 synthetic
From, what I've been told.. synthetic is less desirable due to being slicker.. and not allowing the synchros to grab as well..
