Same exact issues as you in my 17 trans, and my 09. I am considering a vacuum accumulator as I'm having some odd inconsistencies in the clutch pedal... But I'm definitely going to replace the clutch master and actually REINSTALL the CDV, I suspect it actually has more purpose than we are aware of. I believe that the rubber ring in particular. I think the "CDV" is actually a diffuser of sorts that redirects fluid from trying to separate that fitting. If there's slop in it, then it would require more fluid to fully engage (disengage? you know what I mean) the clutch would only engage say 90%, and that 10% putting extra strain on the already crappy synchros. (you likely need the fully update synchros like myself. AMP in Phoenix will explain)
The 1st to 2nd shift issue at low speeds is most likely your CAGS - Computer Aided Gear Selection, aka "skip shift". It is covered in the owners manual. You can buy a skip shift eliminater online for cheap and takes 5 minutes to install.
@@HemiMike I have no idea then what it could be. Did you notice when you installed the skip shift eliminator that it did what it supposed to do? Maybe it's defective. That's always a possibility.
@@HemiMike sounds like what was going on with my trans. I thought it was my synchro in 1st to 2nd but it turned out to be the whole clutch and I just fixed it!! My clutch didn’t have enough padding on it anymore ( it’s an 88k mile car and I just got it)
2012 srt8 same problem here very hard to get in gear ⚙ when leaving home for work and hard to pull out at lights. Anyone find a fix please post thanks in advance
I had that issue with my 2015 RT. There's an old Service bulletin in regards to friction material from the clutch binding to the input shaft and not allowing proper disengagement of the clutch... this bulletin is from 2009... lol... anyways.. the dealer performed the bulletin (R&I of clutch... cleaned off the build up and re-installed) immediately felt the difference.. shifting was smooth and effortless as it was new.
I liked my 2017 challenger with the tr6060. Over all solid and great car but always when the car was cold it would always grind and nibble 2nd gear. I changed the fluid to royal purple will no change. I also had a camaro with same tr6060 and had no issues with that transmission. Ive test driven other challenger with the tr6060 and they were buttery smooth. Either its a defect or when someone before you test drove it they damaged something.
Hemi Mike I have 140k miles on mine and hasn’t gotten worse, I just make sure I’m out of gear before I come to a stop , I never muscle it out it just let the clutch out a little and back in to get the car moving while lightly pulling it out
@@HemiMike My 09 with a bad clutch and 180k miles was mostly unchanged going to a 40k mile transmission and fresh clutch and TOB. It is sorta the nature of the driveline I think. I suspect that new synchros, (or going with faceplated gears HEHE) would fix it, as well as some sort of adjustment on the clutch. I noticed a few companies make adjustable hydraulic TOBs, and I suspect the reason being the range of movement provided by the hydraulics is just barely enough such that the clutch wearing/TOB differences in manufacturing etc etc all make a difference to that last 10% of being fully disconnected. Oh, if you haven't already, check the grease on the input shaft of the trans that the clutch assembly rides on. Highly recommend clean and lube if it's nasty. It makes a difference.
I did this delete a few months ago. I used a drywall screw to remove the O-ring & blue plastic cross. Not really a noticeable difference for me. Get a Barton shifter Mike...it's a world of difference. If I ever sell my car, the Barton is coming out & stock shifter goes back in.
Well if you mean by Cranking that the gears are making a crunching noise and do not engage cleanly its most likely the Syncros that needs to be replace. If the stick lever makes a Clunking noice its kinda normal since that are made like that from the factory...
@@HemiMike Just picked up new 2023 rt manual and its not smooth at all ,its like you said in video ,sometimes smooth most times not ,I rev match and D C all the time ,and trying to speed shift ,, , aint happing,,the valve im thinking ,,
Get the Barton Shifter, like Mark's suggested. It's a big improvement over stock. Also, get the skip shift eliminator. When you did the delete, did you pump the clutch a few times before driving it?
My 2012 challenger srt8 does that 1st hear thing but one when im driving up my drive way. clutch to the floor and I cant pull out of 1st gear. I think its the slave cylinder, but not sure.
Well it is on all gears I feel, when we park it, we use 1st gear and that seems to be it, but I tried using 2nd, 3th, 4th when parked and it does lock in the same way.
Exactly. Its. Synchro problem. The only way to deal with it is to rev match you way out of gear. With the clutch applied, Gas up the revs and once the rpm's are going down around 1200rpm you will be able to lock out of second gear.
Hey, scat pack with tr6060 trans here... I've been having the exact same issue. The car only has 30,000 miles on it but I have to force it in and out of gear sometimes. Its weird because sometimes it works but sometimes it just doesn't want to go in. I'm going in soon to get my clutch/brake fluid, transmission fluid, and diff fluid all changed out (diff and transmission with royal purple). What do you suggest for clutch/brake fluid? My shifts are clunky and sometimes 2nd to 3rd gear grinds...
The sticky gearshift is a hard one to address. My solution right now is to rev up the engine to 2500-3000 to get it of easily. There is a service bulletin for this issue which involve taking the clutch out and cleaning it of the residue. For the fluid ive did it a few times and it will help the second gear grind but its not a miracle solution. I use Dot4 brake fluid and royal purple diff with extra friction modifier.
@@HemiMike (this is my car account, the above comment is my personal) I had the issue before and after replacing my clutch with a hellcat clutch, so I'm not sure it's the clutch. I'm going to use the dot4 and royal purple you recommended and I will keep you updated
@@HemiMike sorry i never updated you. the oil made no difference, and neither did getting a hellcat clutch. under full throttle, it rarely grinds from 1-2, almost always grinds 2-3, and 3-4 is always very clunky and difficult to shift. it’s been getting worse and i suspect the synchros. i’m going to the dealership next week hopefully they can fix something
Quick question I have 2014 challenger srt8 I just installed a new clutch on mine but I’m having trouble shifting to 4 gear thru 6th what do u think could be the problem
Issues are not fun mike, but it is a Dodge. My 82 Dodge half ton with a slant/6 had nothing but issues. This year Jan, the first 5mo. I had my challenger (I thought id try Dodge again) it was in my driveway 3 weeks out of 20wks, the rest, it was at the dealership. it would be flat dead every morning they kept replacing parts, the cluster, the radio, they unplugged stuff and still could not find the problem. Finally they flew a guy in from dodge and while he was working on the car his appendix burst and was rushed to the E.R.. I started thinking the challenger may be like James Deans haunted Porsche (lol not). As he was being loaded into the ambulance the 'DODGE BOY SPECIAL TECH." grunted "try replacing the door modules". they did and finally!!!!! that stopped the issue and I could give back the chrysler 200 loaner p.o.s.. I drove the Challenger 5 more mo.. and just traded it for a Chevy short box reg cab Silverado 1500 4 x 4. Hope I made the right choice and have better luck. Keeping on keeping on Mike ! love your videos and hope you figure out the Issue
Wow. Sorry you were having issues with it going in and out of gear. Granted I only have 6000 miles on mine but I have not experienced that yet. With the cold temps coming soon I am sure it will fit a bit. Glad to see the engagement improved with removing the CDV. That’s on my list of to dos for the spring perhaps. Anyone I have talked to said it’s a nice difference once you remove it. Are you thinking that you are going to be able to get more wheel spin going into 2nd and 3rd with the change ? And how is clutch engagement starting off in first? Is that different ?
I was told the transmission needs pulled its just as simple as putting some grease on the output shaft.
