i remember the first episode when Milburn Stone returned to the show following his heart attack. Festus was the first one who found him back at his office--the joy Festus showed must have been so real to the actors....
That’s when TV was great! Back then we had three channels and could find good shows on just about anytime! Now we have two or three hundred channels and can’t find anything!
Crapload of channels, Big screens hi definition. But nothing on. You got that right. There was more on back when we had furniture model tvs and fewer channels.
This clip is great. Gunsmoke had the best writers, actors, & production, I can see how it had lasted over 20 years/seasons. All of the primary actors are all dead may they RIP.
The network heads wife loved the show kept it on after most of the network wanted it gone. Love to see who is on the show as character actors. So many were on Twilight Zone, Waltons, MASH, etc.
I remember an episode where Festus asked Doc a question. He said Doc, I got something I want to ask you. If a doctor got sick, and another doctor came to doctor the doctor and he got sick, would the doctor who came to doctor the doctor still doctor the doctor? Or would the doctor who was being doctored by the doctor, doctor the doctor that came to doctor the doctor? The scary thing was, I understood what he was trying to say!
Loved the "rivalry" between Festus and Doc Adams. They argued a lot, but they loved each other (As friends) As seen in some episodes where one or the other thought the other was going to die.
My favorite argument between those two was when Festus said he wished fingers had eyeballs on the end of them so he could just poke his finger around the corner of a building without getting shot, and Doc went crazy on him. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
So glad to find this clip. It was always one of my favorite Festus/doc moments and I always remembered it. Also liked another one where Festus was saying, "It's so blame cold outside. I'll tell you how cold it is. I put a pot of boiling water out so's to cool it down and make myself some coffee, and i'll be dad-burned if it ain't so cold it froze that boiling water so fast, the ice was warm".

I was a teenager when Chester left the show and didn't watch Gunsmoke after that. But came across reruns of Gunsmoke with Festus....what a bad move on my part to not watch them when they first came on. Festus was a Riot! I just love that character so much.
I have seen every episode several times...It's tragic there is nothing worth a gob of spit on TV these days. Another great series was Cimmaron Strip...It only lasted one season; but every episode and good scripts, acting and production values. The cast was perfect and Stuart Whitman was well cast as Marshall Jim Crown. All in all, I think it was better than Gunsmoke.
I Love Gunsmoke but I'll tell ya what...the Half Hour Epps are Amazing. Not to take anything away from the Hour ones. (They're great too!) But the Story - Telling is so Great that I bet 80% of the Scripts are based on True Stories. Speaking of Westerns...last year was the 1st Time I heard that John Wayne actually met the real, "Wyatt Earp" in person when John was quite young. I would have Loved to have seen that on Tape or Audio!
I believe that any or most of the scripts are definitely about events that very likely could have happened. In that time period men were trigger happy with guns. So this is why I believe there is a definite realism to the stories. And the way that men viewed women...I see her..she talked to me ...I want to marry her...Simple.

Always so natural it just didn't even seem scripted! hilarious!
they often didn't need a script. this is scripted, obviously. but they'd done these scenes so many times, they could, and did, ad-lib.
Festus and Doc always fussing with one another but when trouble hits they've got each other's backs! That's rare . Great show
I met Ken Curtis at the State Fair rodeo many years ago - he was a true gentleman.
