@@FactsVerse There were so many -- this show spanned my childhood! At one point I had a cousin who lived near Amanda Blake and her husband in Arizona, and they shared a love of horses (in that small community everyone owned at least 1-2 horses).
Gun-smoke has always been and always will be my favorite western series. As a child when we would visit my grandparents in southern Illinois, my mom, dad, aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins would gather at my grandparent’s home on Saturday nights and all watch GUN-SMOKE around a small black and white TV. Gun-smoke holds very fond memories for me.
I jeard Ken Curtis sing "Tumbling tumbleweed" at thhe NC State fair 1980? it was absolutely beautiful, i can still remember the goose bumps, it was THAT good.
My dad religiously watched every episode of "Gunsmoke," so that would have to be my favorite, as it seemed to be always on our TV. Amanda Blake aka "Miss Kitty," was my favorite in the show.
We're very happy to know that you and your dad loved the show! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Which episode is the most memorable for you?

Gunsmoke was my favorite show growing up in the 60s. I remember seeing an interview with Ken Curtis, and was surprised to learn that he sounded nothing like his character. He just had an ordinary speaking voice with no trace of an accent. He was also a wonderful singer.
Fun little did-you-know about Curtis. He was once a member of the famouse country western band the Sons of the Pioneers, which is the same group that gave Roy Rogers his start, altho he was there about 10 years and had long left the band before Curtis joined.
My dad liked 'Gun Smoke' a lot and we used to watch it with him way back in the 60's. I still enjoy watching it on MeTV. It's a classic for sure. James Arness was perfect as sheriff Matt Dillon.
I record every episode of gun smoke and wagon train. I've always watched gunsmoke my favorite. As a child I listen to it on the radio every Saturday night.
The bloopers were in his narration. Among several others… Ken Curtis did NOT play Buck Taylor or Newly O’Brian. Buck Taylor was an actor who played Newly O’Brian…
(Nick's wife): I grew up watching Gunsmoke and had a crush on James Arness. He was so handsome, and his smile was captivating. I named my first son Matt, after Matt Dillon. I am now watching it again every night from 8-9pm and loving it as much as before. The clarity of the film is amazing, being that it was originally filmed so long ago. And the crush is still there....
Overall, Gunsmoke had some of the best writing of any of the TV westerns. There is one big blooper that appeared in the intro in later years. When Marshal Dillon meets an adversary on the street during the intro, you notice his holster cords are untied. This would have made it impossible to effectively draw his weapon. The cords hold the bottom of the holster down and close to the thigh. In that intro, after noticing the untied holster, the scene quickly shows Dillon's upper body as he draws his weapon and the holster isn't scene. It was strange that this big snafu wasn't caught by the director or anyone else during the filming or missed during the editing process.
I've watched at least 300 episodes. I live a few hours from the real dodge city and consider myself an old west connoisseur, and appreciate the accuracy of the culture...for the most part. It's wild to think that basically everyone has passed now. Makes you reflect on how short life really is.
I've seen websites that tally Matt's body count but I've never seen an accounting of the number of graves dug by him and/or Chester ( I only watch the 1/2 hour episodes).
I never saw a Gunsmoke episode while it was running. In about 2016 I started watching reruns before going to bed. I watch an episode, sometimes two, every night. It is the only western I watch and I love the show. Prefer the earlier B&W episodes.
My favorite Western was "Have Gun, Will Travel", because it was so different from most Westerns. Plus the main character, Paladin, wasn't technically a lawman.
I have many westerns that I watched, ❤️loved them all, because not only the stories were strong, but also the actors/actresses were strong and made it what is was. They were the best to watch and still are my favorites….just to name a few, my favorite of all time was the Lone Ranger because he taught gun safety to children and showed how responsible they should be around weapons, but also definitely loved Gunsmoke, Zorro, Paladin, Wyatt Earp, Bonanza, the Rifleman, Maverick, Flicka, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Rawhide, etc., etc., I loved them all and if I’ve missed any, it is because many are NOT being shown any more and some I’ve forgotten….horse stories were always with my favorites too, many were included in the westerns. My family watched all the westerns, it was our relaxing time and to be together then, especially after a hard days work for my dad. I also went to a lot of western movies, especially when John Wayne and Clint Eastwood were in them….including the Lone Ranger… 🤣. Many may disagree with me, but I respected Clayton Moore for his work and his character for teaching children how responsible they should be around the guns, plus teaching the responsibility for when they grew into adulthood…besides including to always show respect towards others. Many times he would bring Silver along and even Tonto would sometimes be with him. It made my day heroic and gave meaning to gun ownership…the Lone Ranger will always be my hero….I miss the good old westerns and other TV series that I used to watch….HIGH 5….❤️
I agree with you on Gunsmoke. I watched it for the first time not long ago and my favourite character became Festus! Incidentally I am watching The Rifleman right now and find it a bit too righteous with Lucas always teaching his boy Mark the difference between right and wrong. I'm not comparing The Rifleman to Gunsmoke though because I've watched worse just before Rifleman which were Have Gun Will Travel and even worse The Lone Ranger. I very much enjoyed Laramie and would watch it again just like Gunsmoke!
I secretly agree the 7000 episodes (all color) I really don't like, so I tend to skip them and LOVE the black and white ones the best......@@leesashriber5097
At 1:35 Doc Adams got the first name of Galen not because Milburn Stone thought it had a nice ring to it but more likely an homage to the Roman/Greek physician and philosopher Galen (Aelius Galenus).
Great video. Ken Curtis was a customer at my grandfathers Conoco on 44th and Wadsworth for years in the 1950's and 1960's and gave my aunt an autographed 8" x 12" colored photograph with a whole heap of love from Festus. My aunt gave it to me a few years ago and a I have it now. It is dated July, 1966. Ken and my grandfather, Cosmos were pretty good friends back in the day.
Gunsmoke, was one of my favorites, glued to the TV through my teens in the 70's. Right along with my dad. Great recap of Gunsmoke. They don't make shows like that in today' times. It is all computer crap that is not real. WOW. LOVE IT.
Chester’s name was Goode on the television show as well. Matt introduced him as Chester Goode just the other day on a reruns. We watch it every single day and I knew Dennis and his wife Gerry personally. Regular, kind, smart people. I miss him.
100% correct…we watch Gunsmoke every day and we have heard Chester tell several people that his last name was Goode. I also knew Dennis and Gerry Weaver personally…..sweeter people never lived.
In 1958, we had an English teacher named, strangely enough, "Mr. Dillon." One day he was late for class and one of the guys imitated Festus perfectly. He yelled out, "Mr. Dillon! Mr. Dillon! Miss Kitty wants ta see ya down at th' bar!!" It broke up the class, of course!!
I remember watching Gunsmoke as a child, with my father. Festus was always my favorite character. Around the age of 20, I had a good friend who had the nickname; 'Festus', and the same type of character also.
William Conrad who voiced Marshall Dillon was not picked for the TV because he was a little short at 5' 8" and over weight, and did not fit the image, that his own great booming voice originated on radio.
Gun law was the original UK title for Gunsmoke. It has always been Gunsmoke in the US. However the 30 minute episodes were later syndicated in the US under the title Marshall Dillon. Ken Curtis did not play Buck Taylor or Newly O'Brian. Buck Taylor (actor) played the character Newly O'Brian for 6 or 7 years. Gunsmoke debuted on TV in 1955, not 1952. Gunsmoke had over 600 episodes in the entire TV run. Chester,s last name was Goode in the TV series,
Marshall Matt Dillion always seemed to present a Dominant persona even when he was calm. I think he was the tallest man in westerns or maybe Chuck Connors’ Lucas McCain was. They were both Dominate in their respective roles.
We were huge fans. On a family vacation to Los Angeles in 1958, we were able to visit a live set at Iverson’s Ranch. I was 7 at the time and we got autographs from James Arness. The particular show was “The Cast”.
My favorite western show is Gunsmoke, and I love to watch all the episodes especially the early ones when Mat Dillion is walking on Boot Hill, and is talking about the bad hombres. I get a kick out of that, and start repeating the monologue to my husband. We both find humor in what I say.😂❤
My grandmother loved watching Gunsmoke. She said it was the closest to watch remembers of her childhood. She liked the fact that when we went out of town chasing the bad guys, they walked the horses. She told me about one of the things that kids would do, they would truck gather around and peek into the saloons to see the Dancehall girls. She told me that they actually had less clothes on them and gunsmoke, but they couldn’t show that. Also, women were of all sizes and shapes working in a saloon. My grandmother was born in 1880s. And therefore she was at the very end of the time that Gunsmoke was set at. In fact, the old west that is so colorful as usually portrayed is between 1870 and 1890, with a heydays of the 1880s. The old west did not come to an end until the turn of the century when I give up it’s less gasp.
Since my family didn't have a tv when I was a child I missed a lot of the episodes of Gunsmoke. But now that I am older and retired, I watch the reruns. This show would never have made it all those years without James Arness.
Gunsmoke is a favorite....as for Bonanza, not so good. I loved Pernell Roberts take on Bonanza, in which he was not enthralled....he said he had a hard time with grown men living with their dad and asking him to go into town to get a beer....
I recall that Matt Dillon's role was supposed to go to Peter Graves (Mission Imposdible guy),James Arness's brother. But audiences remembered Peter as the Nazi spy in the film 'Stalig 13" and the producers felt that Peter would not be accepted by the audience.
The series ran for 20 seasons, making it the longest-running Western in television history. The first episode aired in the United States on September 10, 1955, ...
They made several bloopers in the narration. Ken Curtis did indeed play several characters, but it's said he showed up as Buck Taylor and Newly O'Brien. Buck Taylor WAS Newly O'Brien.
James Arness had a slight limp due to being seriously wounded in the leg and knee in the landing at Anzio. Arness was awarded the bronze star and Purple Heart.
And the continuity issues, timeline issues, and all those other issues didn't stop it from being a great show. I didn't hear any mention of the horses that Mat Dillon rode, I read that there were issues with having to find the strongest horses available because Arness was so big. At any rate, Gunsmoke was a fantastic show.
funny you said that because his palomino? big horse fit him well and I recently saw again a couple of the Tom Selleck westerns. I noticed his legs were way too long in the saddle and he looked too big for the horses he rode. Only the movie with Virginia Madsen, he seemed to fit on the horse right. I remember thinking when I saw that, "he should have a horse like Matt does" so funny.
Chester was always known on the TV as Chester Good. He developed his stiff leg after being shot in the leg in one of the episodes. I don't ever recall Matt Dillon saying the word "hell". But I could have missed it. Gunsmoke is still one of my favorite shows. Festus Hagan, (Ken Curtis) was at one time part of the singing group "The Sons Of The Pioneers".
Wait....the narrator keeps saying Gunsmoke started on TV in 1952. It actually made its debut in 1955. I'm wondering if he's talking about some earlier version, but if he isn't then he's off by 3 years, because that's the year it began with James Arness and crew.
0:50 Buck Taylor, the son of character actor Dub Taylor, was the actor who played Newly O'Brian. These were not characters played by Ken Curtis. However, Ken Curtis did play about a half dozen different characters before he became Festus Haggen.
(Nick's wife): Me too! I wanted Matt and Kitty to show more affection for each other, even if it was just a kiss now and then. I recently read an article in which James Arness had said a romance between them would have changed the context of the show too much.
Perhaps the blooper they refered too, was the person who narrated the story, alot of the info was incorrect. Also no mention of Burt Reynolds, having been a cast member, when he started his career.
Gerald McRaney, of Simon & Simon fame, holds the distinction of being the last guest star to meet "Matt Dillon" in a gunfight in the episode, Hard Labor (1975), first broadcast on February 24, 1975 (he lost).
@@FactsVerse I like the one where Lee VanCleef is back in town for revenge on the sheriff. Lucas and LVC are at the bar. Lucas shoots LVC's whiskey glass out of his hand. Another episode where the antagonist was going to pull his gun behind Lucas. Lucas knocks the back rungs out of a wooden chair on his porch, with his patent quick fire. The guy rethinks his backstabbing idea; wisely slips his gun back down in the holster.
I agree! I remember as a 10 year old kid I made sure, as best as possible, to catch that opening scene of the rapid fire of that Winchester, model 1892, 44-40 shooting off 12 rounds in just 2 or 3 seconds.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing this info about Milburn! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
@@FactsVerse There were so many -- this show spanned my childhood! At one point I had a cousin who lived near Amanda Blake and her husband in Arizona, and they shared a love of horses (in that small community everyone owned at least 1-2 horses).
He did.
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
lovely, lovely memory! I like that your family did that.
I watched every episode at least once and many up to times!
I named my middle daughter after her ! Loved her character !
You suggest for us to look again at the blooper. But…. You never show the blooper. I feel so… unsatisfied for my 12 minutes of my time watching this video.
I'm with you on this - SHOW US THE BLOOPER!
Thanks 3 minutes in.... or should I say out. ?
Thank you sir - now I don't need to watch this rubbish.
@@TheConour Yup! The title says “This Scene Wasn’t Edited,” when it should have said “This Title Wasn’t Reviewed to Match the Content”.

Watched Gunsmoke as a kid and still now it is my favorite show, I like hearing the extra history information you provided
We're happy to know that you're a fan of the show up until today! In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Gunsmoke was my favorite show growing up in the 60s. I remember seeing an interview with Ken Curtis, and was surprised to learn that he sounded nothing like his character. He just had an ordinary speaking voice with no trace of an accent. He was also a wonderful singer.
Fun little did-you-know about Curtis. He was once a member of the famouse country western band the Sons of the Pioneers, which is the same group that gave Roy Rogers his start, altho he was there about 10 years and had long left the band before Curtis joined.
@@clubmogambo3214 Yes, I grew up with the Sons Of The Pioneers. My mother played their albums all the time. I still listen to them today.
The blooper is in the narration stating Ken Curtis “showed up as Buck Taylor, Newly O’Brien and…” 0:53
Or that John Wayne was offered the part of Dillon.
Gunsmoke is STILL my favorite show on TV. I love the black and white episodes
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
My dad liked 'Gun Smoke' a lot and we used to watch it with him way back in the 60's. I still enjoy watching it on MeTV. It's a classic for sure. James Arness was perfect as sheriff Matt Dillon.
One of our favorites too, you've got taste! What other types of video would you like to see?
I record every episode of gun smoke and wagon train. I've always watched gunsmoke my favorite. As a child I listen to it on the radio every Saturday night.
The bloopers were in his narration.
Among several others…
Ken Curtis did NOT play Buck Taylor or Newly O’Brian.
Buck Taylor was an actor who played Newly O’Brian…
Like a postcard! 👍👀👍 Wow! I call that Stinger Worthy! …🍺

😂😊
watched gunsmoke as a child still watch today my all time favorite
I've watched at least 300 episodes. I live a few hours from the real dodge city and consider myself an old west connoisseur, and appreciate the accuracy of the culture...for the most part. It's wild to think that basically everyone has passed now. Makes you reflect on how short life really is.
I love it when matt says chester get the shovel..and he always says..HOLD IT!!love the show
I've seen websites that tally Matt's body count but I've never seen an accounting of the number of graves dug by him and/or Chester ( I only watch the 1/2 hour episodes).
One of our favorites too, you've got taste! Which episode appealed to you the most?
I love Wagon Train, especially Terry Wilson.
Absolutely love Gunsmoke!! My boyfriend and I watch it every weekend. Also loved the Rifleman. Love me a good old Western. Thank you😊
You're very much welcome! We're glad to know that you and your boyfriend love Gunsmoke. If we may ask, which episode is the most memorable for you?
I agree with you on Gunsmoke. I watched it for the first time not long ago and my favourite character became Festus! Incidentally I am watching The Rifleman right now and find it a bit too righteous with Lucas always teaching his boy Mark the difference between right and wrong. I'm not comparing The Rifleman to Gunsmoke though because I've watched worse just before Rifleman which were Have Gun Will Travel and even worse The Lone Ranger.
I very much enjoyed Laramie and would watch it again just like Gunsmoke!
@@FactsVerse , I loved them all. The last season was not as great as the rest of them. Still, I'll watch any episode I can. 😊
I secretly agree the 7000 episodes (all color) I really don't like, so I tend to skip them and LOVE the black and white ones the best......@@leesashriber5097
Gunsmoke is my favorite show. Started watching during reruns.
At 1:35 Doc Adams got the first name of Galen not because Milburn Stone thought it had a nice ring to it but more likely an homage to the Roman/Greek physician and philosopher Galen (Aelius Galenus).
Best cast, best series, watched in the 60s still watch it. So much chemistry between the main cast.
Interesting, thanks for sharing this info about your grandfather and Ken! Much appreciated ♥
Thank you. If you like, give me an email and I can send you a photo. It's good looking. @@FactsVerse
I miss him.
oh! did you know he used to be our minister at church one sunday a month? he also did a talk on spiritualizing business. very respected man.
100% correct…we watch Gunsmoke every day and we have heard Chester tell several people that his last name was Goode. I also knew Dennis and Gerry Weaver personally…..sweeter people never lived.
Many of your facts are wrong, Chester's last name was Goode and Matt's never said, "never get the hell out of Dodge" you also had other mistakes.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing your life story! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
I loved this show as a kid. I had a metal Gunsmoke lunch box in grade school.
We're happy to know that you're a fan of the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
my really all time favorite, but not by much is Hopalong Cassidy, and then Gunsmoke. i still watch it everyday!
I member watching Gun Smoke with my Grandfather, it was his favorite show. My Grandpa passed away in 1969 and I still love watching the reruns. ❤
We're happy to know that you're a fan of the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
And he never missed.
@@FactsVerse Who related to who in Hollywood? Like Robert Graves of Mission Impossible was Luke Arness's brother
JAMES Arness (Matt Dillion) was PETER Graves brother, yes, he was in Mission Impossible mostly. @@xxcelr8rs
Peter Graves was James Arness's brother.
We were huge fans. On a family vacation to Los Angeles in 1958, we were able to visit a live set at Iverson’s Ranch. I was 7 at the time and we got autographs from James Arness. The particular show was “The Cast”.
The blooper here is Chester's last name. Goode on TV, Proudfoot on Radio, not as stated. The stated reason for the difference is wrong also.
The old west did not come to an end until the turn of the century when I give up it’s less gasp.
that's a great story!🤠
Always been a big fan of this western movie. Still watched all the episodes. Love it!!❤ 8:31
Gunsmoke is my favorite Western TV show of all time I just got done watching it on INSP TV
Gunsmoke wasn’t filmed in Kansas, it was filmed outside of Kanab, Utah. There were dozens of westerns filmed in that area.
It is almost comical watching those deep canyons, and
gorges that Kansas never has. The biggest hill is
probably an ant hill! lol!
Since my family didn't have a tv when I was a child I missed a lot of the episodes of Gunsmoke. But now that I am older and retired, I watch the reruns. This show would never have made it all those years without James Arness.
Wow! That blooper was something else. I still can't believe it.
I don't think Matt ever said "Get the hell out of Dodge". He just said "Get out of Dodge".

MILBORN STONE SISTER WAS AUNT HARRETT IN THE 60s BATMAN SERIES.

Peter Graves from mission impossible was the brother of James arness. Ms. Harper Stacey.
Gunsmoke was always our favorite.

Gun Smoke is my favorite by a long shot. The characters were
perfect for the show.

Gunsmoke and Bonanza has always been my favorites shows to grow up watching and still watch them to this day!!

Gunsmoke is a favorite....as for Bonanza, not so good. I loved Pernell Roberts take on Bonanza, in which he was not enthralled....he said he had a hard time with grown men living with their dad and asking him to go into town to get a beer....
i have watched gunsmoke since i was little/ i am still a fan and i am 63 yrs old
I still laugh at Doc and Festus arguing. Epic comedy!
Us too! Thank you so much for bringing back memories. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
I recall that Matt Dillon's role was supposed to go to Peter Graves (Mission Imposdible guy),James Arness's brother. But audiences remembered Peter as the Nazi spy in the film 'Stalig 13" and the producers felt that Peter would not be accepted by the audience.
I still watch reruns today, love it. My favorite episode was Dirty Sally, she was so cute
The series ran for 20 seasons, making it the longest-running Western in television history. The first episode aired in the United States on September 10, 1955, ...
Several errors, don' know where to start, this was not researched well at all. Gunsmoke first aired on TV in 1955, the Radio show first aired in 1952.
Arness was awarded the bronze star and Purple Heart.
thank you for clarifying that. so it was NOT arthritis like the video said. I had heard it was a war injury too. thank you for saying that!
And all the mistakes geographically - mountains, deserts and Mexico within a day's ride of Dodge City. LOL
I've read that he used that same buckskin for the length of the series. ??
I must admit, as a Dane I hardly saw Gunsmoke but I liked the comedy series, Maverick with James Garner as the Star.
Chester’s last name in the TV show was, in fact, Good. You also missed Burt Reynolds as one of the stars who appeared in numerous episodes.
Ken Curtis also replaced Frank Sinatra when he left the Tommy Dorsey Band.
I honestly never heard the word, "hell" being used either. I don't.
Chester already had a limp in the first episode.
Many, many errors of fact in this video.
I agree !!
Wait....the narrator keeps saying Gunsmoke started on TV in 1952. It actually made its debut in 1955. I'm wondering if he's talking about some earlier version, but if he isn't then he's off by 3 years, because that's the year it began with James Arness and crew.
I didnt here you mention Burt Reynolds. he was a big part of the show.
"Young Jim Hardy" in Tales of Wells Fargo with Dale Robertson, Walter Sande & John Dehner. Excellent show.
My favorite part about Gunsmoke was watching my grandpa watch it.
0:50 Buck Taylor, the son of character actor Dub Taylor, was the actor who played Newly O'Brian. These were not characters played by Ken Curtis. However, Ken Curtis did play about a half dozen different characters before he became Festus Haggen.
