@TheNordus It just so happens they do. Tyranid regeneration is an optional upgrade for basically all the big guys. At the start of your turn (as long as the model with regen is still alive), roll a D6 for each wound suffered. For every 6 that you roll, the model regains a lost wound. This means it woks on wounds previously failed to heal, so you get many shots at healing every wound.
@MAGNETICSANDWICHFILM every unit has their own specific armor save. After taking wounds, the defending playing can make an armor save unless if the weapon that was shot has the same or lower armor piercing value. For example: A space marine gets wounded from a bolter (str 4 ap 5) since the space marine has an armor save of 3+ he gets his armor save. That same space marine gets wounded by a melta-gun (str 8 ap 1), because the armor piercing value is 1, the space marine does not get his armor.
@Fug118TheGreat The player controlling the unit that dies can decide who dies, doesn't have to be the ones specifically being attacked. That way, you can keep the units that are upgraded.
Your vids are so helpful. Thanks, guys. I thought the game was a little overwhelming at first but now I have the basics I'm much more confident. Keep up the good work! :)
@pimpolinka69 Because it's a save. As in, it's guaranteed that they bullets hit, but it's not guaranteed that the shots will penetrate the unit's armor. It can be assumed that, if they pass the save, the bullet hit, but was deflected or absorbed by the armor.
Most close combat weapons tend to operate more or less the same. A chainsword, despite being a freaking chainsaw, still has the same rules as a combat knife, although the unit wielding it may affect its' deadliness. Other weapons have some special rules, like Power Weapons, Force Weapons, and things requiring two hands to use, if I remember correctly. Just because one random Ork Boy's model has an axe with a chainsaw built in, he does the same damage as another Ork Boy with a mundane weapon.
@MAGNETICSANDWICHFILM it is very simple lets say that a couple of orks have dealed out 5 wounds on two space marines. The space marines now get to take their armor save which is 3+ you then roll 5 dice (beacuse of 5 wounds). The space marines rolled as following 2 4 4 3 and 5 since they have a armor save of 3+ the 4 4 3 5 is taken away. So in the end the 2 hits and kills a space marine :)
@maxwelljkohlenberg A weapon has to penetrate the armor first though before it gets to the flesh. Purely logically speaking, a save should be taken before the wounding roll because if your armor blocks off the attack, you are onviously in no danger to be wounded.
@pimpolinka69 yeah, well there are a ton of things in the table top game that would be more logical but it just works better other ways, and I was answering your question
@LordThoriner i rather think its because one guy keeps rolling and hands off the dice when his rolling is done. if you would roll wounds against initiative it would be perfectly logic but rolling vs toughnes sounds more like a fleshwound or even just a scratch when hitting the target.
@pimpolinka69 Sure, but then that would make some things slightly more complicated, such as wound allocation. The way it is now you can allocate all of the wounds first and then deal with armour saves as a batch. The current way also makes combats with different weapon types more fluid. For example, a power weapon ignores armour, meaning that with hit-save-wound you cut out the middle step and the combat becomes more complicated. You are right though, hit-save-wound is more logical.
he should have introduced running in the video too (since orks are horrible at shooting). the orks could have moved 6", rolled a D6 to run, and then they probably (with luck) would have been close enough to assault. 2 attacks each, +1 for having 2 one-handed weapons, +1 for assaulting, and (i may have counted wrong) 17 orks. the Nob has 1 extra attack. 69 attacks on the first turn. although if the carnifex died on the first turn then the video wouldn't have been very interesting.
I noticed that you got to pick which ork's to take away after you attacked with he bio attack, now in a real fight, if i use the template to kill lets say 6 guys, if they all die, should i only remove the guys that were under the template or can I pick any 6 guys from the squad. I am new and I just ordered my casualty on black reach set so yes, I am a noob :)
Can you make your own custom close quarters weapons? I was considering putting a saw mounted on a dreadnoughts shoulder as a custom weapon? Is their rules on it? if so, what are they?
Carnifex: 160 points Add bio plasma: +20 points Add crushing claws: +25 points Add regeneration (guy forgot to do it but kind of insinuated this Carnifex has it): +25 points Total: 230 points. 16 boyz and a nob: ~100 points And that is why no one uses Carnifex anymore. Overpriced, slow, and very easy to overwhelm.
At 5:34, 11 6's were actually rolled, the green die in between 2 boyz must have been blocked by the battle. Love these videos, just thought I'd point that out.
@pronoob555 I have come across that one myself, none of the boyz actually had a weapon strong enough to glance at my the dreadnought, so they just kept him stuck in combat all game, which sucked!!
I have a question, if I attach my HQ to a squad and they lose assault and fail their morale test do I withdraw my HQ with the squad if he is fearless? Or do I leave him there and fall back my other troops without him.
Why do you space the orks so far apart when moving witht hem? wouldnt it be better to cram them towards the front as much as possible to make sure they can fire?
Matt, A total noob here. At the end, even though they killed the Carnifex, do the ork boys have to make a morale check or is it negated by destroying the enemy unit? Thanks!
I understand they wanna go fast but shouldn't there armour be blue so they're more powerful? Also, in the rule book, do the orcs beliefs have consequences in match?
Hahaha! For me this video started off with an advert of the super-hot Zooey Deschanel chanting: “Doing sexy things with this pillow…” Then the wargaming.
Hey how does accesories work? I mean like.... well I don't even know if you paint them or how to put them together so.... let's just say I know nothing!!!
i know the rules but i just like watching these videos :) mainly because when i saw the pic of the carnifex i thought it would be fighting 10 tacticle marines or 5 termies, i was wrong :(
Why the rolls go like: roll to hit -> roll to wound -> roll to armor save Wouldn't it be more logical like this? roll to hit -> roll to armor save -> roll to wound
Interesting way of showing one turn for a player... kinda forgot that small rule where if you shoot a pistol, you can still assualt in the same turn. Orks should have assualted first D:
That green dice, blending with the green orks, I laughed so hard
@gruntgoboom1 Nope, I didn't forget it. He doesn't take it on the Orks turn, and that is when he died.

@aaroncetin Not normally done in these intro videos that is.
@CoreMarine They were too far away - about 6.5 inches if I remember correctly.
@MAGNETICSANDWICHFILM

Omygawsh
I was sitting picturing that o my gosh.
Badass carnavoix thing! That was awesome!

I thought the carnifex got the rule regenerate. Did you you miss that?

@Icicle240 Fearless automatically passes the tests so you do not have to actually roll anything.
I hope that helps a tad.

@XFreedomPrimeX you can choose where to take the wounds from
@Starkiller271 He left it there to mark how many wounds the Carnifex had left.
@lukekennedy1001 the template moves in that direction the number of inches on the 2D6
ive been playing 40k for 2 years and i know how to play the game, but i just like to watch the fight lol, its always fun to see what happens :P
@pimpolinka69 no. the way they have it makes the game flow better, there would be more back and forth die counting if it went that way
you miss a dice
A die you mean there was only one. Sorry just being pedantic haha..
he should have introduced running in the video too (since orks are horrible at shooting). the orks could have moved 6", rolled a D6 to run, and then they probably (with luck) would have been close enough to assault.

@miniwargaming
Can you please do a terrain tutorial on how to make that water. It looks so cool. And Tyranid are the best.
Can you make your own custom close quarters weapons? I was considering putting a saw mounted on a dreadnoughts shoulder as a custom weapon? Is their rules on it? if so, what are they?
@miniwargaming
Something about Walkers would be awesome.
Ork Boyz with Power Klaw-Nob against a Venerable Dreadnought would be cool.
Poor Bug didn't get his regeneration check that was mentioned... I guess he'll pop back up once the boys walk off and catch them from behind.
Carnifex: 160 points
Add bio plasma: +20 points

@WarHammer40kWorld I'm pretty sure they already posted the fight between chaos and marines earlier.
@pimpolinka69 No because think about it, you have to see if your strong enough to even hurt them before their armor stops it.
@pimpolinka69 that will be more time consuming, because you'll have to pass dice between each other twice.
@SMOOVEMONK Orks are good, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Eldar (but they are a hard army to play)
how do you tell when something can ignore armor in close combat other than power weapons?
I have a question, if I attach my HQ to a squad and they lose assault and fail their morale test do I withdraw my HQ with the squad if he is fearless? Or do I leave him there and fall back my other troops without him.
@starhawks1 I was asking if it weren't more logical that way. Not practical.
did you have any upgrades for the orkz besides the power claw?
5:33 LOL MISSED DICE! LOL
im thinking about getting a chaos predator just to have cause they are cool when i get enough money but i heard they fall apart any advice?
@pimpolinka69 absolutely no idea, i often wondered about that but its just how it is i guess :)
3:37 overwatch?
Why do you space the orks so far apart when moving witht hem? wouldnt it be better to cram them towards the front as much as possible to make sure they can fire?
This is a tutorial. The intent wasn't to show tactics, but to show how the game is played.
probably me being stupid but wouldn't the carnafex get more attacks with the living battering ram
@redchickenproduction the last time I chack its orks the codex says orks not space orks
can you guys go over sweeping advance and consolidate, i read the rulebook but im still confused =S
Matt,
A total noob here. At the end, even though they killed the Carnifex, do the ork boys have to make a morale check or is it negated by destroying the enemy unit?
Thanks!
Because they killed it, no morale check is required...I guess they'd all be super happy since they killed a massive creature thing :)
Totally destroying the enemy unit in melee negates the need for a morale check, regardless of casualties taken. : D
Foskitty Thanks for the clarification.
I understand they wanna go fast but shouldn't there armour be blue so they're more powerful? Also, in the rule book, do the orcs beliefs have consequences in match?
Hahaha! For me this video started off with an advert of the super-hot Zooey Deschanel chanting: “Doing sexy things with this pillow…”
Then the wargaming.
I didn't get the running away at all :( does it happen every time two batallions clash?
What happens if when throwing scatter dice you land on an arrow?
What's the army with the least horde units?
@GamerGuy249 Grey Knights or maybe Dark Angels
Whats better for Boyz? Ranged or close combat?? =)
I love this serie.
So are these videos gonna get an update with the new rules?
That happens at the beginning of the Tyranids turn, since it died during the Orks turn it doesnt get its regen rolls.
the team on the right side of the board always seems to win. does he favour them?
@JonathanBasnett what do you mean by that lol
Thanks I’m learning SO much! 😁
Hey how does accesories work? I mean like.... well I don't even know if you paint them or how to put them together so.... let's just say I know nothing!!!
You forgot one of the dice on the armor save though
so you combat resolve(the leadership thing) after evry combat
thinking of it realistically, the Carnifex would squash a few if he was charging, like a tank would squash things
How do you know what to roll?
Why is overwatch step skipped?
You cant mess with da boyzz
can anybody tell me how armor saves work?
would the boyz need to take a morale check after they kill the carnifex since most of the squad was killed?
Actually there are 12 6's in the camera, at 5:25
2 things you forgot,
you didn't count the green dice that was a 6 near the boys
also you forgot about the Nob with power claw
...lead by a knob!!! Sounds like my day at work!
What happened about the carnifex regenerating?
Can you move less than 6 inches ?
@miniwargaming
You forgot that the Carnifex had Regeneration.
You could have saved him from dying!
ok why did the whagh banners shoot ???
how did the fex die after 2 wounds?
who won pointswise?
@pimpolinka69 lol it's a big difference i think
You forgot to roll that green 6 dice. Amazing how he saved on that dice. Those Cheeky :'(-nids.
i know the rules but i just like watching these videos :) mainly because when i saw the pic of the carnifex i thought it would be fighting 10 tacticle marines or 5 termies, i was wrong :(
Why is the Carnifex so small?
This is a well explained video.
@XFreedomPrimeX Then my friend, we all are. :) I still cant understand a lot of stuff.
I was following right up till 7:40 when it just sounded like he was reading pi or something.
Why the rolls go like:
roll to hit -> roll to wound -> roll to armor save
Wouldn't it be more logical like this?
roll to hit -> roll to armor save -> roll to wound
5:52 die is in the position of the miniwar gaming symbol lol!
@onewingedangel2 how?
@cmh2910 If they had/used Waagh they could fleet :P
carnifex didnt have his 3 regen rolls, he could have eat them for breakfast. nom nom nom
the orks should have used fleet in the shooting turn in order to be able to charge
Singular: die
Plural: dice
You roll a die, or several dice.
Interesting way of showing one turn for a player... kinda forgot that small rule where if you shoot a pistol, you can still assualt in the same turn. Orks should have assualted first D:
wait he left a die behind? i wonder if that would have changed anything....
Isn't die singular?
It's funny that there are a couple nobs in the mob
Old One Eye is in the place.
@GamerGuy249 necrons
