I love these battle reports and I just wanted to take a few moments to say thank you for doing such detailed and helpful battle reports, they got me back into this form of gaming again
This is really good! From introduce their armies to introduce the game board, even the background music is good. You guys should do more videos like this!
It's really interesting seeing how much strategic emphasis was put on these old videos. Watching the list breakdowns with the tactical explanations for why each choice was taken is really cool. I don't mind MWGs more narrative focus these days, but there's nothing wrong with competitive games either.
looted wagons are tanks the orks captured and rebuilt. so essentially, you could take anything as a looted wagon, from official minis you converted, over plastic models of real life tanks to a box of tissues that you glued tracks and a cannon on
these old video styles just look and feel so much better than the new ones and they are much more enjoyable to watch than the beat the cooler batreps or jayknights batreps, though I gotta give jay credit he is a very likable kinda guy and is always in a good mood and is a very good sport
Carnifexes were nerfed in the new codex, but before they were still pretty strong. And the 4th ed boomfex had scything talons and a barbed strangler, because you could stuff it into an elites slot, but you could still have your awesome S8 strangler.
It's a dedicated transport option for nids in 5th ed (our latest codex to date) It can carry 20 infantry or 1 monstrous creature. There is no model available for it yet, word on the fleet is that GW will be releasing a model for it soon. The best part about the mycetic spore is that it NEVER MISHAPS unless you go off the table. only happen to me twice and with the new deep strike roll table, survived everytime only to come back and destroy my opponent.
@Miniwargaming Acording to Codex and the rule Books a Transport is its own "Unit" Kinda like a Space Marine Captain joining a Tac Squad the Tac Squad if fully killed is now worth 2 Kill points, A Tac Squad inside a Dedicated Transport is worth 2 (1 For Squad 1 for Transport) a Indipentant character + Squad + Transport is now worth 3 (1 Squad 1 Transport 1 Unit) Only time this is not True is when it Basicly STATES it via unit. Like a GrayKnight commander with a Retnu
@pickleojoe a kill point is when you kill a squad of your enemy's army. So a to get a kill point, you have to completely wipe out the whole squad. No matter how big it is. So like orks, if there are 30 boys, you have to kill all 30 boys. There are different rules for vihicles and independent characters, but would basically follow the rules of kill points.
"He always puts the Genestealers behind his Nids, it's anoying because by the time I get there my boyz are too small to take the charge." "So I have three full squads of Genestealers.'
Dedicated transports always count as a kill point. The point is popping the transport so you get a easy kill point, in objective based missions this isn't so vital but in kill points it is.
I put up an idea on the page, be sure to vote for it. The idea is for more video such as this...more battle reports that show you what happens during the turns and not what happens after each turn.
there's the firestorm over kronus mod for dawn of war. it basically turns everything closer to codex, complete with some rules and something like the force organization instead of troop limits and furthermore adds things like leman russ variants, dedications to chaos gods, more eldar aspectwarriors and basically most things that were in the codices but not in the game. it's pretty good, but since there's a heavy luck factor in tabletop games i doubt you'll see the mechanics in anything but a mod
page 92 of the mini rulebook " "Note that occassionally the Codexes allow the player to include several units in his army at the cost of a single force organization slot (like dedicated transports, etc.) Apart from being bought as a single choice, these units operate and count as seperate units in all respects."
@58octopuslegion well page 87 "dedicated transports" says that they count as unit from same force organisation chart, as the unit they are "dedicated" to, just doesnt use up a force slot. Ofc it doesnt matter that much as if its troops, it still cant score, just contest, but if its a unit, it count as killpoint :S
In case anyone is still not sure, the latest school league rules pack confirmed transports and seperate kill points than the dudes inside. You can find it on the Games Workshop website.
@jcdogman101 Each army has its own Codex and certain units can have weapon/armour upgrades etc. It depends on the points of the game and how you like to build your army. Its usually a good idea to buy the army codex before your army so you know what you need to buy to build a legal army
You know, I really like this style of batrep. The emotionless narration that the Beat Matt batreps developed don't feel nearly as entertaining as this batrep does. And from the perspective of a newer player, (Despite using 5th edition rules in this video) taking the time to show the rolls and talking about what the roles are for, and what they do, is really good.
Thats because this video is about three months old. MWG puts these videos out for the paying club members first then a few months later makes them available on the youtube channel.
Dang wish i had somone to play and get this stuff. Love the games and will prop like table top aswell. Question are the necrons any good at tabletop or?
Haven't watched miniwargaming for years as I lost interest in the tabletop game (still love the books and video games) but had to come back and watch this battle report as it is my favourite, I'm going to watch some of the newer ones after though.
@Faydwarf Getting wings off another model seems like the popular choice, as is pinning them into place. I've seen balrog wings used but the model of wings comes down to personal choice/cost of the model really.. forgeworld has a tyrant with it's own wings too, and some sculpt it out of modelling putty but I don't know much about that.
@Altier215 Yeah, I might rip up my carnifexen later, but I probably won't. I have a bit of an emotional attachment to those three... in their very last game of 4th ed nids, they each took out at least 2 times each of their values...
@magikgamer Ideally, you'd equip the actual models with the weapons you want them to have, and it details in each army's Codex how much those weapons cost and what damage they dish out. However, there may be games when you decide you want your troops to have different equipment. In that case, simply have it all written down so you don't forget, and make sure it all works within the points allowed for that game.
does killing a HQ that is a single figure when he is attached to a squad(i.e. a space marine captain attached to tactical squad) count as an extra point or is he rolled into the squad kill point?
Oh, Mycetic Spores! (I play nids myself, so I was just curious.) Any tips for nids? Cause it seems that whenever I go against a team with any guns, I lose terribly... (I'm always fighting a space marine tournament list though...)
ok i might sound noobish saying this but i am a new ork player starting speed freakz and i want to know if i should go with lootas or burnas and if lootas would be any good against necrons? bcause i am going to get a box with option for a mek boy with 4 lootas or 4 burnas and i want to get my revenge on my friends necrons
@mrlego135 a normal boy costs 6 points, and a nob is worth 20, without weapons. most everything for a nob is 5 points added, except for power klaws which add 25 points, and a waaagh! banner adds 15.
@babypooon It means that people, or in this case Tryanids out of Synapses range ( or maybe Carnifex also has tank shok who knows) Freak out when it sees a tank driving towards them. Take a leadership role to see if they run back.
@patchhacker * Imperial Stormtrooper Sits down with a bag of popcorn and sips from his drink ............ Shouts to the Chaos to sit down * Ahh Now the show is gonna start
is it just me or does that looted wagon look an awful lot like a ww2 german StuG III ausf G, i wonder if thats what he converted to make it or if its an actual model (not an ork player so i have no idea what they actually have)
with an imperial army you don't need "LOADS" of tanks to. You need more with an ork or nid army as they are mainly focused towards the horde side. Plus nids have some serious flaws especially in 6th ed.
Since the stealers have feeder tendrils, and he's got so many fex's i would agree, plus they are all Boom fex's which are not so good in the new Dex, he has like 4? in seperate squads, thats 700+ plus for all of them, not leaving many points for the rest of his list.
When are u guys finishing up Primal Horizon and getting the minis for the game. I cant wait till u finish!Keep Up The Great Work And Finish SOON!!!!!!!
a lot. at least, it used to, in 3rd and 4th ed, even with the numbers on my side, I still lost a lot. never played 5th ed or later, so I don't know how much the mechanics have changed
oh and i forgot this vid, if u hadnt noticed is super out of date i would check out their most current stuff to see how the new rules and how the new codexes play
TheHorreK2 I recommend one of the starter sets like the dark vengeance and assault on black reach, they each come with a rulebook some sticks to measure with and dice. They come with orks vanilla space marines (Blackreach) And the other dark angles and chaos space marines. You can get either of those and practice with them ( at the back of the rulebook there is the information about the guys so no need too buy a codex right away) and you can choose your army from there. I would recommend reading up the races on lexicanum or w40k wiki. And to invest in say a 2000 point army (which should do you over for most games but wont give you much variety) Probably cost about 400 bucks sadly (not including glue paints brushes ect) You dont want an army you dont like, they each come with a deep and rich lore, play stiles and aesthetics. Hope this info helps.
lets see matt you gone 3 and 0 against Orks I've gone 12 and 0 against guard and everytime that cycle gets broken I switch up my list to counter what he has so the cycle stars over again
I played a game with my Nids vs an Ork army and lost. Last two turns I had most of my army left but the ork player was ahead by 7 kill points due to gaunts spawning and dieing but when i tied up his last squad of boys (all he had was an immobilized truck and 6 other models) with 60 gaunts they kept whiffing and he just kept on getting his 2+ saves. I should have won but the dice gods were on his side that day. It was an awesome fun game though.
My friend who plays Tau has that same psycological warfare against me... infact he did it earlier today when I was usin my Orks. I don't mind it though. It makes the game a bit more challenging and entertaining =D
I always go see this batrep once in a while. The one that got me hyped and into tabletop wargames. AND MY GOD IT'S FROM 6 YEARS GO NOW?!
I love these battle reports and I just wanted to take a few moments to say thank you for doing such detailed and helpful battle reports, they got me back into this form of gaming again
Wow it's been 10 years since this series came out man it's been a long time I loved old mwg lol. One if my fave videos was dave building a table.
This was the first batrep i had ever watched 2 years later and this is still my favourite
This is really good! From introduce their armies to introduce the game board, even the background music is good.
You guys should do more videos like this!

I love these old videos
@ringotomb It's in the older codex before this newer one. It allows the model to re-roll failed rolls to hit.
@gunslinger107 That's because this was played and filmed before the release of the newer codex.
@Ghettonerd101
Codex Tyranids (Fifth Edition)
Read Page 86.
Armoured Shell (It's the option that's above wings)
Then read the Armoured Shell entry on Page 83.
looted wagons are tanks the orks captured and rebuilt. so essentially, you could take anything as a looted wagon, from official minis you converted, over plastic models of real life tanks to a box of tissues that you glued tracks and a cannon on

@JoltenJoetaco actually that wording hints at it being part of the troop unit, meaning it counts as a kill point with the squad not on its own
I put up an idea on the page, be sure to vote for it. The idea is for more video such as this...more battle reports that show you what happens during the turns and not what happens after each turn.

Even thought I have NO idea what these people are talking about, It's damn entertaining. Warhammer looks really cool.
page 92 of the mini rulebook
" "Note that occassionally the Codexes allow the player to include several units in his army at the cost of a single force organization slot (like dedicated transports, etc.) Apart from being bought as a single choice, these units operate and count as seperate units in all respects."
Hyper close combat army versus hyper close combat army.
This is going to be awesome.
@58octopuslegion well page 87 "dedicated transports" says that they count as unit from same force organisation chart, as the unit they are "dedicated" to, just doesnt use up a force slot. @SwordMasterz2
I think that was members content, which means it was really filmed months ago when the codex might now have been out.
@jcdogman101 Each army has its own Codex and certain units can have weapon/armour upgrades etc. It depends on the points of the game and how you like to build your army. Its usually a good idea to buy the army codex before your army so you know what you need to buy to build a legal army

Dang wish i had somone to play and get this stuff. Love the games and will prop like table top aswell. Question are the necrons any good at tabletop or?
Dedicated transports are still units be themselves as they are referred to many codexes and count as kill points just the same regular vehicles
Very well-painted models, both of you. Kudos.
Haven't watched miniwargaming for years as I lost interest in the tabletop game (still love the books and video games) but had to come back and watch this battle report as it is my favourite, I'm going to watch some of the newer ones after though.

@wolflord68 Once the game reaches 1500 points (in old codex), you can take Carnifex's as elites. But, the unit has to be within a cheap point range.
@Altier215
Yeah, I might rip up my carnifexen later, but I probably won't. I have a bit of an emotional attachment to those three... in their very last game of 4th ed nids, they each took out at least 2 times each of their values...
2 of the most strongest races in the 40k universe IN AN EPIC CLASH OF EPICLY EPIC, AWESOME WAR!
@magikgamer Ideally, you'd equip the actual models with the weapons you want them to have, and it details in each army's Codex how much those weapons cost and what damage they dish out. does killing a HQ that is a single figure when he is attached to a squad(i.e. a space marine captain attached to tactical squad) count as an extra point or is he rolled into the squad kill point?
Dedicated transports count as vehicles that can carry troops so they are kill points because they count as vechicles
Matt has not changed an ounce.
@MrPJstahl it's phycological warfare, but ya, he did kinda push it a little.
Can you use your vehicles and enemy vehicles as cover saves if the enemies firing at me at the time are on the other side of the vehicle?
so whats your army list for the Nids here, all I got was the Warrior, genestealers and a carnifex?
Oh, Mycetic Spores! (I play nids myself, so I was just curious.)
Any tips for nids? Cause it seems that whenever I go against a team with any guns, I lose terribly... (I'm always fighting a space marine tournament list though...)
could you guys do some more dark eldar battle reports, found the one against matts tyranids really fun. just a thought though
You gotta love these two swarm armies... just simply insane.
ok i might sound noobish saying this but i am a new ork player starting speed freakz and i want to know if i should go with lootas or burnas and if lootas would be any good against necrons? bcause i am going to get a box with option for a mek boy with 4 lootas or 4 burnas and i want to get my revenge on my friends necrons
A transport counts as a separate unit as per the dedicated transport section of the rulebook.
@kaitos78 Yes, His Carnifex is an Eliete
@mrlego135 a normal boy costs 6 points, and a nob is worth 20, without weapons. most everything for a nob is 5 points added, except for power klaws which add 25 points, and a waaagh! banner adds 15.
*Checks after 13 years
"Ahh yes, A fine vintage"
@babypooon It means that people, or in this case Tryanids out of Synapses range ( or maybe Carnifex also has tank shok who knows) Freak out when it sees a tank driving towards them. Take a leadership role to see if they run back.
is ur shop anywhere near toronto? i wanna visit you guys when i visit a friend there
the best to start out with is space marines (not chaos) because htey are the most rounded
then you can go from there but its best to start from there
cool. are the looted wagons based on ww2 tanks ? possibly a stug and a kv ?
where can i get this kind of stuff I've ben looking on the internet for it but it only directs me to the wiki... if it helps I'm looking for orks.
StuG (German WWII Selfpropeled Gun) at 1:15
lol
Wonder were the Orks got that from?
@patchhacker * Imperial Stormtrooper Sits down with a bag of popcorn and sips from his drink ............ Shouts to the Chaos to sit down * Ahh Now the show is gonna start
yes, i says so in the vid descripition up on the right
is it just me or does that looted wagon look an awful lot like a ww2 german StuG III ausf G, i wonder if thats what he converted to make it or if its an actual model (not an ork player so i have no idea what they actually have)

that explains why there is so much more this was before new codex
I really want to get that kind of terrain. Looks really good. Anyone know where or how to get it?
thats alot of tyrinids. how much did you spend on em all?
Since the stealers have feeder tendrils, and he's got so many fex's i would agree, plus they are all Boom fex's which are not so good in the new Dex, he has like 4? in seperate squads, thats 700+ plus for all of them, not leaving many points for the rest of his list.
When are u guys finishing up Primal Horizon and getting the minis for the game. I cant wait till u finish!Keep Up The Great Work And Finish SOON!!!!!!!
what is the ballistic skill of a norma tyranid? please answer
@rhysdegnan unless they're grey knights (nemesis weapons truly kill orks)
a lot. at least, it used to, in 3rd and 4th ed, even with the numbers on my side, I still lost a lot. never played 5th ed or later, so I don't know how much the mechanics have changed
That Boomwagon looks like a ww2 stug g assault gun. Anyone know what model that is, cause its badass.
@saruat5 can you find the page and paragraph in the rule book then? If you could message me that it would be really helpful
again question how did Dan made the 2nd Battlewagon?
this is my favurite battle report evr made
those tyranids are painted so well, kinda make me want to start a tyranid army :P
hey i want to put wings on my Hive Tyrant... what would be the best way to get wings for him?
@pickleojoe what's da killy spot?
The music made the vid even more epic. Which song is it?
This video was the one that got me to play Warhammer 40K!
I want to play this soooooo badly, how much money do i need to invest to have a full army, map etc? (i am new to this but i am willing to learn :) )
ive sunk about.....$350? on my army so far and i got about 1500 points of guys
oh and i forgot this vid, if u hadnt noticed is super out of date i would check out their most current stuff to see how the new rules and how the new codexes play
elfraider1 dont worry, i will :D

Release part 2 already!!! I watched this right as it was released! And I want to know what happens next! :'(
Why didn't you have the new codex it was out at this point.
hey can you gave me tip about starting a space marine army
can u make a painting inspiration vid im losing my tyranid painting vibe
In dow 2 the mek says when you tell him to attack tyranids.
"I don't like killin bugs. Dey got no kit."
How are you using a fex as an elite?
@h1r086 yea i might just grab a bulrog or some chaos bits with wings or similar, thank you for the reply :D
When Matt said "If he's lucky" I thought "Uuh, it's Dan."
This is actually the batrep that got me into wargaming
@mematt120 ya, I don't have alot of people to play either. Talking to my friends to join.
what are feeder tendrils dont see it in codex
How did they get the camera so high up?
@rhysdegnan what happens if you die running, or its one of mission HMMMMMMMMM ?
I like the older Bat raps more then the new ones, they feel more dramatic. :)
lets see matt you gone 3 and 0 against Orks
I've gone 12 and 0 against guard and everytime that cycle gets broken I switch up my list to counter what he has so the cycle stars over again
