No no no no no. WD-40, Barkeeper’s Friend, naval jelly, Evapo-rust, or white vinegar. ANY mild acid will do it. Some people use a baking soda paste to abrasively remove rust. Most importantly, use a SOFT CLOTH and wipe WITH THE GRAIN. Finally, neutralize any acids you used, and treat the surface with a neutral oil which will protect the finish from further oxidation.
DON’T DO THIS… stainless steel ALWAYS has a grain to it. Firstly, you must only rub in the direction of the grain or you will leave swirly scratch marks. Secondly, don’t use aluminum foil, as it’s far too abrasive wadded up like that.
Hi JulieAnn. Ours has been fine, no further rusting. I think if you used something abrasive like wire wool it might but the aluminium foil doesn't seem to have any adverse effect.
Oh my,absolutely terrible idea, don’t you see her stainless steel appliance is dull, she scratched it all up,foil paper too abrasive, then not going with the grain bad idea, just use bar keepers on a damp microfiber cloth will take it out, clean it off then finish it with baby oil on soft cloth , good as new
As many others have noted, GO WITH THE GRAIN which in this case is L-R. However, the cleaning action seems to do the trick!

Thanks for this great tip. It really worked well. Just use rubber gloves!!!!
Shouldn't you go with the grain??
I think you're probably right Ronda.
Wrong way, scrub with the grain 😊
Hi Colin. Thanks for the tip, we'll try that.
Scrub daddy paste and scrub daddy . Scrub with grain and then buff off with cloth.
Oh no, I think this method might make the stainless steel even more vulnerable to further rusting?
(hopefully I’m wrong!). 😊

@@robandalicruisetravel ok thank you, I was curious!
I think also your dishwasher has better quality stainless steel.
Well, in my experience, this will scratch the steel and yes, it will make it rust more
Facts it will mess up even more
Good job love but just wear gloves I think it’s the best way nitrile gloves defend against chemicals for your skin and health.
That was scary

Not with the foil, it will scratch
Real stainless does not rust
