One correction: Shawn Baker has been doing the carnivore diet for about 2 years, *not 7*. *Re: +Vincent Vendetta on Inuits having higher rates of heart disease, low life expectancy et cetera* The studies you linked look at *modern inuit* , making them irrelevant: [pubmed/18457208 pubmed/12535749 pubmed/19800772 pubmed/20548980] For the studies to be relevant, they would need to be looking at Inuit *before* Westernization, i.e. 1910 or earlier, and maybe much earlier than that. Amber O'Hearn pointed out that as early as 1857, Inuit in Greenland had had Flour and Sugar introduced to their diet. [1] The first study looks at at Inuit from 1989-2003 [2] The second is a study from 2003, what time period the data is coming from is unclear, but it's very unlikely it comes from early 1900's. [3] The data is from 2000-2004 [4] Data is from 2009 or 2010. (This is important to clarify, so I've added it to the pinned comment for visibility)
Amber O'Hearn has been a Carnivore for over 7 years. Humans are Obligate Carnivores. The statement "may help some people" is bullshit. It will help ALL people. In the 1500's Scurvy was treated with Fresh Raw Red Meat. It is NOT a recent discovery. 2.5 Million Years eating Animal Fat and Animal Protein precipitated human evolution. There is a reason why our Caecum is a Vestigial Organ called the Appendix. Vegetable matter was reintroduced to the human diet 10,000 years ago is also the "dawn of chronic disease" in humans. The arrogance of the medical community is truly annoying. The problem with so many people changing their dietary regimen to a much healthier animal fat/meat diet threatens the medical community's profits. Big Pharma after all controls mainstream medicine. I eat fat/meat. I am much healthier since no longer eating plants.
Great video, my one complaint would be there aren't significant enough caveats in this analysis. Obviously, you only sought to find the positives to figure out why this kind of diet could work, but it fails to ignore why it could also potentially be dangerous in the long run due to increased rates of heart disease, and recent links to different kinds of cancer. I do think maybe this video would be too long were you to add all of these caveat. I also think though, that it is clear that a lot of people now rely on you for informative actionable content and you should take that power with a certain amount of caution and responsibility. Again, love the video just thought I could pitch in my two cents.
Artbug Lol Ikr.. My friend keeps sending me all these videos to watch and he always says "I am sending you this even though I know you aren't going to follow it" - well damn chetty, you sending me a new "diet" to try every other day. You confusion me!" lmaoooo (I have cancer and he thinks he can heal me with special diets.) I am about ready to give the hell up. Lol
Artbug first we shouldn’t eat fats, then we can’t eat sugars, then we remember that fats are ok, then we hate meat for other reasons and for the fat but whatever, now we can’t eat vegetables... All the while eggs go in and out of style. Let’s face it, all this diet crap is just based on trends, just eat meat, vegetables, if you can you should have dairy, eat enough carbs to fuel you if and when you need it and don’t when you don’t and remember that you get energy from other food groups too, eat a variety of things whenever you can, variety helps greatly in most cases. Drink water when thirsty, don’t when not, only exception being that if you don’t feel thirsty for some weird reason but you know you need more water drink it then too, and drink during meals just because you’ll probably be thirsty then anyway and it’s easier to eat and drink near the same time for most people.
I can only suppose most diets have merit very much because of this, that any and all foods put a strain on your system, which is why technically it could be beneficial to abstain from whatever. The way I imagine that is to compare our bodies to any machinery, of course running it will leave wear on its parts, and not putting in fuel will stop it from running temporarily. Shutting our bodies off permanently obviously isn't an option, so we have to go with whatever is the next best thing, which is taking in as little as possible. The various approaches then are limiting oneself to one thing and specialising ones body to handle only that, or just eating a little bit of everything but keeping it in amounts small enough to be inconsequential (aka a balanced diet). TL;DR Everything is toxic in a high enough dosage so just deal with it

My uncle who is old and weak decided to cut sugar, bread and other useless stuff and now he doesnt have a big belly anymore. If the old man can do it i am sure of it that you can
To make my life easier, I have started to eat humans. They are readily available, free range (most of them), and like a cat does with a mouse, you can play with them first. I also like it that my food talks back to me. Of course, the final words are usually predictable.
@ThumperOne Thank you for your kind advice. As you can imagine, I don't like to crack my own teeth, so I just polish the human skulls and display them on my mantelpiece. Soon, I need a bigger mantelpiece :)
To some degree we do work like that. For the sake of generating "energy" we could just eat scoops of glucose powder. Unfortunately we rely on food for a lot more than just energy.
@@FortWhenTeaThyme glucose powder and vitamins. Just take all the nutrients you need mixed with glucose powder and make a soup. Then construct a pod called a nutrinizer. You step inside and it injects you with the soup thus giving you all you need.

That's what the struggle of life is, nothing wants to be eaten, nothing has a perfect diet, as long as you make it to a reproductive age you've already won your turn at life. We are just spoiled really.
There is one more factor, that this video made me think about yet has not been discusted. I talking about the natural seasonality of certain plants. If plants are actively causing small scale harm to our bodies, then one might hypothesise that not being able to access all sort of plants and vegetables all year round would mitigate the effect of the plants' self protection mechanism. The foods unvailability would allow the body time for recovery. (kind of like exercising for 45 mins a day VS exercising all day every day of your entire life) Just a thought I had.
The way our current lifestyle is, we have access to foods year round that normally wouldn’t be available. Maybe there’s something to eating foods out of season? Interesting thought!
Best comment here, that is why in the rural areas of the world(even my family when i was young) they have different times of the year that eat certain types of vegetables and other times of the year a completely different diet, more pickled or cured in somehow and so on, you had a very interesting thought. Thanks
This is indeed interesting and would be a great key hypothesis for a novel design. If you do research or know someone who does, I'd suggest looking at this concept. Of course without data we can't be sure.
That is the right answer. ITs personalized to what ever works for you. Some really can just go full carnivore and it works. Other needs abit of veg and no carbs. I enjoy ketovore as the IF part is what truly brings in healing like autophagy and apoptosis.

In fact people actively try to sabotage my diet sometimes. I came to thank you, you've changed one more life. Thank you so much for complying this information it was perfect turnaround point for me, my health and my life.

I have a friend who is suffering from NASH. Non alcoholic liver disease. She doesn’t “get it”. She runs through the coffee drive through, ordering sugary drinks and putting NO THOUGHT into what she eats. Her endocrinologist didn’t tell her ANYTHING about nutrition and what to avoid. Our medical doctors aren’t working for us any longer. These doctors are beholden to the big pharmaceutical companies. Her kidneys are challenged now, so how can she eat carnivore?
U really care for ue frnd. Imo.. Ask ur frnd start from a 5 day fast... I m sure it will help... If it works for her let her work on a one meal a day diet. And if she sees changes in long term. Ask her to switch between fast and omad
In one of Dr. Ken Berry MD's video (don't remember which one), he mentioned a European study that showed carnivore/keto diets actually improved kidney function for those with kidney disease.
How is your friend now? There is a woman who had kidney failure bcz she had sugar as her every meal. That’s the impression I got. Carnivore healed her kidney failure. Look her up “carnivore cured this woman’s kidney failure”. Hope its not too late for your friend.
My son got rid of his constipation after getting rid of fiber. So many years of doctors telling he needed more fiber, not less. Years of hell finally gone for him.
So everyone on earth should be on a strict carnivore diet and low-carb vegetables are horrible for you, even though people have been eating them for thousands of years?
This is just my experience, but I find switching what you eat based on needs, and how the food makes you feel for the following day, can tell you a lot about what your body wants. It's not very scientific, but considering how the scientific side is broken into a bunch of camps now, it's better to just follow instincts, and observe your own state.
This!! I was eating just one food at at least 3 days, and if that doenst make me feel right i never eat that again. So just eating one thing helps you to be sure that this thing is what made the change.
I hate to surprise people, but this is called elimination diet, and I agree with you. it takes time to know what affect your gut, skin, digestive system .. etc of all these, but when you are done exploring and elimination, re-introducing, you will have way less problems and enjoying whatever you eat. + you will be proud that you figured it out yourself, instead of following everyday diet trends ;)
Man, I dont know how to thank you. But from the bottom of my heart. I tried this diet for about 1 year now. I had a terrible case of arthritis where i couldnt walk. I am finally able to walk with this diet. I was KETO for 2 years and down 70 pounds to 175. After carefully studying Oxalates for the last 6 months I have decided on Carnivore, which to me is fish,, pork, chicken, beef, cheeses, lamb, etc. I eat 2 meals a day about 2000 calories and have now dropped another 9 pounds in just 2 weeks to 166. Your DNA or ancestry seems to play a vital role in the diet you should eat for optimum health. If your DNA is more Equatorial or from warmer climates, then you're probably better off eating more vegetables and fruits in your diet, but if your ancestors are from a Northern, colder climate, then more meats would probably be healthier for you. This theory is known as the "ancestorial appropriate diet." (Hat tip to Dr. Berry).

What about seed plants? Like avocado for example. Aren't they supposed to be eaten? For some plants getting their seeds eaten and excremented is necessary for their reproduction as far as I know, so it would be counterintuitive for these plants to have such defense mechanisms around the seeds at least. Have you come across information regarding this during your research? I would be very interested to know.
I was just about to ask the same question. Think it might be not entirely true since some seed plants actually want nutrients that are around the seed to be decompose by bacteria in the soil. But that's just my guess. Also most of them are selectively bred to be tasty to humans their meaty part might be altered so significantly that it doesn't at this point represent the way they're supposed to work in their natural state.
Two days after going carnivore, the muscle pain and abdominal bloating I had suffered with for years WENT AWAY. Our diet is in such a mess that public is in mass confusion and simply don't care. My grandmother who passed away at age of 94 always told us "eat moderately and eat with variety" and that is the only advice holds the truth.
To be fair, when people go on any diet, they are more likely than not to see positive results. Once you stop consuming fast food and all this junk we consume in modern day, we feel 100x better. I believe that’s where most of the improvements are
Simple weight loss is not what's being seen on this diet. We are seeing full reversal of diabetes, the reversal of IBS, depression...etc This is what you're designed to shove down your mouth
the main reason why people gain weight is because of the carbs. there are two other sources, but don't have the same effects as carbs, and carbs can get turned into one of the two other sources. carbs are the first source, they have the most energy out of all three sources. the body processes them within 18-24 hours, and then sit in the liver for 48 hours. after those 48 hours, they get processed into fat, unless you utilize the carbs the next day or so. fats are the second source of energy. it's when you feel sluggish and don't want to do anything. you'll burn it, not as fast as carbs though. the fat wont be used up as energy if you haven't taken care of the carbohydrates first. this is why low-carb diets give great results. the last source of energy is protein. protein is what makes up your muscles, and a bunch of other stuff. they are used extensively throughout the body, and when coupled with a low-carb diet, weight loss happens. unless you weight-lift, you'll continue to lose weight until there's a low fat percentage in your body.
carb diet is an incorrect fad if you support it just shows you don't know anything about biology or nutrition "how do you know HUH!?" i know from 5 years at Melbourne University School of Medicine

Before I started the carnivore diet, I used to think it could give people scurvy, then I educated myself. Scurvy is the inability to turn proline and lysine into hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine without Vitamin C as the catalyst. it turns out meat is rich in both hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine which can be absorbed from the gut and used by the body so much less hydroxylation needs to take place, hence less vitamin C needed. P.S. Those sailors on long expeditions were eating carbs, not meat!
Ya, when some of the crew on Napolean's ships were getting scurvy (I believe it was the low ranking ones who were only fed mainly breads), they fed them horse meat to cure it.
I've been on the KETO diet for about 10 months now and have lost 60 Lbs. This was also done with intermittent fasting, walking and riding my bike 17 miles twice a week. You'll feel like a new man, literally, when you loose that much weight.
Meat only for about 3 weeks now combined with weight training. Body fat is down 6% and I've strapped on 5 pounds of muscle. No supplements. Just meat, eggs, and water/coffee, lifting twice a week for one hour. Zero issues and I feel awesome. Prior, I was on lower carb, then keto. First three days of carnivore are a bit rough but I've honestly never felt better. I miss carbs every now and again but it passes within moments.
My theory about why these extreme diets seem to work is that we are not supposed to mix foods. When you food mix your body has to utilize conflicting enzymes in order to digest everything which is where digestion problems occur. Eating one thing at a time equals better digestion and absorption of nutrients. Again, just a theory...
That's a great takeaway! And to take it further, we can use the information about antinutrients so for example a vegetarian should also mix specific foods for better absorption.

I was on it for years in my 20s and was super fit. I would eat cheese eggs and tea in morning, and bacon or fish for the next meals with cheese. I also had a little milk and pork rhines for a snack. I put butter in everything. I am back on the diet and loving it and losing weight and firming up.
Where you live is a factor in that. I eat, for the most part, 1 meal a day, consisting of 2 beef patties, 4 jumbo eggs, and a small can of salmon. But I also live in Texas, so beef is cheaper for me than a lot of other places. Carnivore + intermittent fasting has saved me both time and money.
I've been doing carnivore diet (I was on keto with lots of salad, kale, spinach and so on..) and I feel great.. My perfomance in calisthenics also increased. Anybody here has similar thoughts ? :)
+facevalue Depends on the plant. For example if I recall correctly the cyanogenic glycosides in cassava, Yes. (sufficient) cooking will remove the hydrogen cyanide. On the other hand, oxalate for example cannot be cooked out
you dont want to cook our veggies too much though as sulphoraphane for example will be inactivated with too much heat. And its iportant for our liver to eat raw food at times as well, and most raw food we eat are salads.
I beleive in the very same video by Dr Rhonda Patrick on Sulphorophane she brings up the point about cooking Broccoli does in fact lower the availability of Sulphorophane.
I've been on a carnivore diet for 7 months now. By removing carbs and sugar and eating only meat... my bloating & stomach pains disappeared, my mood & energy is 100x better and my joint pains went away. So yeah, you can survive and thrive in an all meat diet.
I can total agree with the fibre study Dr Mason was talking about. I have always had issues with in-taking lots of fibre. My doctors always said, eat more fibre to stop constipation and diarrhea. I took fibre supplements and ate high fibre diets and it was the worse I have felt in my life. No fibre equals happy colon!
Keep in mind that every person's ancestry and how they were raised may make their bodies favour different diets. Major thing to remember: listen to your body and change your diet accordingly.
@4121Z0N4 That's great that you found a diet that works for you. While that choice may not be right for everyone, it seems as though you feel great on it. Listening to your body is so important.
@4121Z0N4 That's not true. Farmers were dependant on their produce for thousands of years. If you farm the hell out of potatoes and cabbage you're mostly going to live on potatoes and cabbage, not your one or two dairy cows (which didn't constantly produce milk.) Meat was often an occasional treat for some people. Other people, hunters and trappers in particular, did almost exclusively eat meat. It's quite likely they had occasionally had fruits and vegetables as a treat (from foraging and trading.) People ate what they had. They also had a life expectancy of 25 years and that's why everyone can claim to be an expert on the perfect diet.
Great video. Going to pass this on to friends that are interested in carnivore. I'm 1 month into carnivore myself and feel amazing between 8 months keto and IF and 140 pounds lost in the last year and a half. I feel better at 43 than I did through all my 20's and 30's
If you had to lose so much weight in the first place, obviously you feel better now. You'd feel the same if you had lost that weight through a vegan diet. While vegan doesn't work for me personally, this is not an argument. Go over to the vegan-promoting channels, and you will find people with the same story as yours. I'm happy for you of course, no offense.
@@melodicseaweed387 I've actually looked into some of the vegan channels. I just can't align myself with that line of thinking plus I have to get a lot of nice benefits from my very highly absorbable omega-3s from cod liver and cod liver oil. Since I cut out all the seed oils and really up to my game with the omega-3s lots of amazing benefits with that. I started that early in my keto journey. Most people probably wouldn't believe the benefits from that. Let's just say I have very fair skin and I never need to use sunblock anymore. I'm not quite a ginger level but close enough. I shaved my head bald every couple days and I used to plug my razors with peeling skin a few times a year during the summer. Not once this summer and I even went to Florida on vacation for a couple weeks all day at theme parks everyday without sunblock or hats
Ill do everyone a favor. Vegetarian or carnivorous, just steer clear of any preservatives, sugar or processed foods. If I had to guess, it's the reason why people say they feel better than ever on both vegetarian and carnivorous diets. It's the 3 common characteristics of both diets.
I can also add that the shits are tiny. Only did this for a month as an elimination diet and after yeating 1.5kg of meat everyday, it seemed like everything was being absorbed by my body and number 2 in the bathroom has never been easier or faster
There’s a joke in the keto community of people Googling “where’s my poop” because even on keto you eliminate significantly less often. Which makes perfect sense to me if most of what you’re eating is actually absorbed on a metabolically more efficient diet.
Did you have luck in finding what your trigger foods are? I really wanna try this but the restrictiveness is so hard especially with social occasions so im thinking of doing this as an elimination diet.
Wild Cod and Pasture raised animals. Try getting hold of *these* at your local Supermarket. Honestly, this is all very interesting, but most of what you recommend is unavailable these days to the overwhelming majority of the Earth's population ;O)
I mean judging by your comment, you live in a first world country. Now I'll give you that idk where you live, BUT you have a butcher shop that raises and slaughters animals within a 45 minute drive of your location. They are everywhere you just need to find them. Wild fresh fish, I admit, can be a little harder depending on where you live, I happen to live about 150 miles from the coast so I have a fresh fish market of fish caught yesterday in the Atlantic, delivered this morning, about 45 from my home. Those are the highest quality and freshest foods, however many supermarket chains have been getting with the health food trend (whole foods) and their meats, while older, can still be relatively fresh and untampered
I've done it. I have invested. My girlfriend and I just purchased a whole grassfed cow from a local rancher and has been delivered to the butcher for $3000. I also have to buy a new stand up freezer, I needed one anyway. Seems drastic yes? I figure I won't have to do as much grocery shopping for a while. This also cuts out the going out to eat. What I have just done should actually be cheaper. The beef comes out to $5.50 a pound, hamburger meat at the grocery store costs $4.50 a pound for the cheapest choice. The Steaks are very expensive at the store so buying the whole cow at once was a bargain. A lot of the food I usually buy that is expensive I won't have to like Cliff bars and protein bars. I will be eating eggs for breakfast and will be eating 2 meals a day.
One correction: Shawn Baker has been doing the carnivore diet for about 2 years, *not 7*.
*Re: +Vincent Vendetta on Inuits having higher rates of heart disease, low life expectancy et cetera*
The studies you linked look at *modern inuit* , making them irrelevant: [pubmed/18457208 pubmed/12535749 pubmed/19800772 pubmed/20548980] For the studies to be relevant, they would need to be looking at Inuit *before* Westernization, i.e. 1910 or earlier, and maybe much earlier than that. Amber O'Hearn pointed out that as early as 1857, Inuit in Greenland had had Flour and Sugar introduced to their diet.
[1] The first study looks at at Inuit from 1989-2003
[2] The second is a study from 2003, what time period the data is coming from is unclear, but it's very unlikely it comes from early 1900's.
[3] The data is from 2000-2004

That's it... I'm done eating food altogether. This is becoming too difficult.
Lol
You could always become a breatharian and just live off the five elements. No needs for food.
TL;DR Everything is toxic in a high enough dosage so just deal with it
Lol

There is one more factor, that this video made me think about yet has not been discusted. I talking about the natural seasonality of certain plants. If plants are actively causing small scale harm to our bodies, then one might hypothesise that not being able to access all sort of plants and vegetables all year round would mitigate the effect of the plants' self protection mechanism. The foods unvailability would allow the body time for recovery. (kind of like exercising for 45 mins a day VS exercising all day every day of your entire life)
Just a thought I had.
Very interesting!
The way our current lifestyle is, we have access to foods year round that normally wouldn’t be available. Maybe there’s something to eating foods out of season? Interesting thought!

An apple wants to be eaten, for sure.

You're right they are supposed to be eaten, this is a reproductive strategy for many seeded plants and nut bearing trees.

I was right there with you, but then you went all hail veggies. Be consistent.
Does anyone stop and think their fitness might be improving because they stop eating sugar and carbs and not because they're only eating veggies???
the main reason why people gain weight is because of the carbs. there are two other sources, but don't have the same effects as carbs, and carbs can get turned into one of the two other sources.
carbs are the first source, they have the most energy out of all three sources. the body processes them within 18-24 hours, and then sit in the liver for 48 hours. after those 48 hours, they get processed into fat, unless you utilize the carbs the next day or so.
fats are the second source of energy. it's when you feel sluggish and don't want to do anything. you'll burn it, not as fast as carbs though. the fat wont be used up as energy if you haven't taken care of the carbohydrates first. this is why low-carb diets give great results.
the last source of energy is protein. protein is what makes up your muscles, and a bunch of other stuff. they are used extensively throughout the body, and when coupled with a low-carb diet, weight loss happens. unless you weight-lift, you'll continue to lose weight until there's a low fat percentage in your body.
carb diet is an incorrect fad if you support it just shows you don't know anything about biology or nutrition

Nice
Ya, when some of the crew on Napolean's ships were getting scurvy (I believe it was the low ranking ones who were only fed mainly breads), they fed them horse meat to cure it.
Without refrigeration and needing lots of not so perishable foods for so many so long, they didn't have many options.
I've been on the KETO diet for about 10 months now and have lost 60 Lbs. This was also done with intermittent fasting, walking and riding my bike 17 miles twice a week. You'll feel like a new man, literally, when you loose that much weight.
Health is not just about weight.

5 pounds of muscle in 3 weeks? WTF?
My theory about why these extreme diets seem to work is that we are not supposed to mix foods. When you food mix your body has to utilize conflicting enzymes in order to digest everything which is where digestion problems occur. Eating one thing at a time equals better digestion and absorption of nutrients. Again, just a theory...
That's a great takeaway! And to take it further, we can use the information about antinutrients so for example a vegetarian should also mix specific foods for better absorption.
A GAME THEORY

Depends on the plant. For example if I recall correctly the cyanogenic glycosides in cassava, Yes. (sufficient) cooking will remove the hydrogen cyanide. On the other hand, oxalate for example cannot be cooked out
Depends. Kidney beans, for instance, can be toxic if raw. But cooked they are safe. The canned/bottled stuff are precooked for your convenience.
you dont want to cook our veggies too much though as sulphoraphane for example will be inactivated with too much heat. And its iportant for our liver to eat raw food at times as well, and most raw food we eat are salads.

@4121Z0N4 That's great that you found a diet that works for you. While that choice may not be right for everyone, it seems as though you feel great on it. Listening to your body is so important.
@4121Z0N4 That's not true. Farmers were dependant on their produce for thousands of years. If you farm the hell out of potatoes and cabbage you're mostly going to live on potatoes and cabbage, not your one or two dairy cows (which didn't constantly produce milk.)
Meat was often an occasional treat for some people.
Other people, hunters and trappers in particular, did almost exclusively eat meat. It's quite likely they had occasionally had fruits and vegetables as a treat (from foraging and trading.)
People ate what they had.
They also had a life expectancy of 25 years and that's why everyone can claim to be an expert on the perfect diet.
This is a fallacy.

@@Leftistbreakfist Natural selection makes it so that the people who can process the local food better also have a better chance at reproducing.
This was an eye opener. Not gonna stop eating plants but wow, I never heard of cons of plants in our diet.
