I have 2 pairs of over the knee socks that are chicken feet, legs, and feathery white thighs!! They're fun lol, makes me think of chicken knee high boots!!
I just wanted to say you find the most delightful copyright-free music! The songs always have the most wonderfully unusual (& sometimes hilarious) samples/beats & perfectly compliment the moment’s energy 🎶
@@KathleenIllustratedI'm pretty sure UA-cam recommended your videos because I listened to Breezy Slide so much at the time. And now I love your stuff!!
Me too! I'm so ADHD I had to rewind it because I kept thinking maybe I had missed a closeup of the end product with the added sparkles on the toes. 😅💅🏽 Still pretty cute tho! ❤
I make puppets (my channel used to be all puppet videos, but I havne't uploaded in about 5 years) and one day, a friend asked for a monster puppet for her daughter, who had been through a year of medical issues. I chose a blue striped fuzzy fabric for her monster, exactly like those feet! What a great reminder of one of my favorite puppets and monsters!
I love this! I was Team Flame to start, but you won me over with your fluffy foot pedicure. Also, I have size 11 feet and some feet issues too, so it is very hard for me to find interesting shoes. I've already started minor tailoring of my clothes, and you are sparking ideas on how I can possibly "tailor" my shoes, too!
these are so JAUNTY and SPOOKY i will be making my own for sure. I love how they look in general, but they look incredible when you are actually wearing them with pants oh my god
i finished last weeks video and watched this one while adding grommets to a thrifted corset im upcyceling! i’m going to cover it in playing cards for a queen of hearts inspired concert look. can’t wait till next weeks vid!
For a more permanent solution - one that won't rip off with masking tape - Angelus makes leather paint. They have a starter kit which comes with leather preparer, three paint colors, and a sealant. For all the hard work you put into these, use the optimal paints for the job.
I would like to put forth the term “retro-pocalypse” for post-apocalyptic settings that somehow feel like their also in a past time. I feel like the Locked Tomb series has this kinda vibe!!
Hi Kathleen I am watching this from the ICU and your videos are always so emotionally regulating. Thanks for your vibe! It is so safe and healthy. Take care of yourself always 🥰
Giggling because I, too, make messes when left home alone, buy my spouse campy matching thrift shirts, and have the impulse to paint all over his things. You’ve attracted your ideal thrifty craft goblin audience, well done.
Applying Leather deglazer (or just plain acetone) where you’re going to paint will give your paint something to bite on to. Angelus sells acrylic topcoat finishers to protect your leather paintings from daily wear too!!
'Never Let Me Go' is one of my all-time favourite books. I once recommended it to a girl I had met at music camp, years later she told me that she'd read it and it had traumatised her (still feel bad about that). I learned then that most people don't have the same tolerance for that vibe I do and that I should be more careful with my recs; also that I find depressing/disturbing tales like these strangely comforting? So you've definitely piqued my interest with 'The Other Valley'. The speculative story setting you were describing sounds a lot like 'Cloud Atlas' by David Mitchell (not that David Mitchell). I didn't like as much as I think I should, hits so many boxes yet somehow falls short, but that might just be me (also Sonmi is a precious baby and I must protect her from all bad things). There's also 'What Happened To Lani Garver' by Carol Plum-Ucci, which is like NLMG in that it's a coming-of-age journey, and it shines in handling difficult topics. Might be a little dated in some aspects, though the story holds its own. As a wild card, I'll also recommend 'Lud in the Mist' by Hope Mirrlees x
LOVE the penny loafer look on you, along with the bow. One suggestion: make the toenails even more red so they'll standout more. They seem a bit subtle to me, but perhaps that will make them wearable for more occasions. I think, though, if you go--go BIG and WILD!
Also adding fabric softener to regular acrylic paint works great to turn it into a fabric paint. You just have to heat set it afterwords (on fabric) and it’s great.
I love your quirkiness, your style and humour!! I am a proud fashion weirdo who is currently wearing sunset bright knitted socks, Birkenstocks, Red Kap denim overalls that I thrifted new with tags (I freaking love them), a stripped Breton shirt and a green knitted hat my mom made 20 years ago. I am a 60 year old Nana, autistic as hell, and caring less and less about what people that I do not care about think about me. Love the shoes, they are awesome!!
If you haven’t already read it, I think you might like Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. Speculative fiction with some time travel and is around 250 pages- so a pretty quick read.
omg i downloaded this book yesterday and finished it today, it was SO good ! i know i'm not the intended receiver of this recommendation but thank you !!
I was in SF this weekend and checked out “out of the closet” and loved it! Thanks for sharing that in a vid ❤ I love that you bring in the fun and silly into crafts. I can get so serious that it’s a great reminder!
25:00 For book recos, you might check out Psalm for the Wild-built and its sequel Prayer for the Crown-shy by Becky Chambers. I love Chambers' other works, and this series really fit into that slow, cozy, contemplative feel but both books are relatively short. They also are a refreshing reprieve from doom-and-gloom post-apocalyptic fiction, it's more optimistic solarpunk future. Happy reading!
Yo! If you're watching and enjoying, SUBSCRIBE and help our girl out!❤ Kathleen, yes...when to wear fuzzy feet shoes? Uh, when you wear shoes, of course!😅 Especially like the jeans and cardigan look. ❤
The way you described The Other Valley was literally everything I ever want in a book! It reminds me of two other books that are speculative that I absolutely LOVE for their stillness, their lovely writing, and their connectedness to nature and humanity: I Cheerfully Refuse by Leif Enger The Wall by Marlen Haushofer Enjoy! ❤
your take on them totally sold me on the shoes! so playful and unexpected! in the realm of books, I ALSO love a dystopian future with pastoral vibes. it feels a bit cliche, but my recommend is Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. because it’s a series of lightly connected short stories, it scratches multiple itches at once; historical fiction, sci fi, dystopian, etc etc. one of my favorites.
Not quite pastoral futuristic. But the locked tomb series, especially Gideon the Ninth, has major historical but spacey vibes. Theres cavaliers, sword fighting, and necromancy! Its honestly the perfect spooky season book. The first one is basically a spacey murder mystery in a haunted house.
Puffy paint or flocked lines would be another cool option? Love what you do, very inspiring and fun. Thanks for being yourself and that the yourself that you are is so unique ❤
Such a fun project as always! ❤ As for the The Other Valley, I instantly added it to my Want to read list. The description reminded me of The City and The City by China Mieville, which I loved and sort of fits what you were looking for. Have an awesome week!
I would've done a skeleton foot pair of loafers but with the bones in a bright bubblegum pink instead of white. Book stuff: My library got in the new Richard Osman mystery, and my hold came through just as the hurricane was arriving. Managed to pop by and grab it just before the library closed due to pending emergency. I am currently reading the first book in his new series We Solve Murders and very much liking it. I enjoy his Thursday Murder Club series (although, the 2nd book of the 4 so far in that series was definitely a sophomore slump) and dreaded the possibility that I'd be disappointed in his new series, that it wouldn't live up to TMC standards. Nope! It's good! I'm already looking forward to another installment! Fun, fast paced, same level of quirkiness to this batch of characters (including charming villains). Just finished reading a memoir and its sequel. I read both Outcast by Deborah Feldman and its sequel Exodus. They were both kinda meh. I won't try to dissuade anyone from reading them, but I also don't particularly recommend them. They were both kinda {just shrug}. I'd bought cheap, used copies to read and will now be putting them in a nearby Little Free Library.
This reminds me of my pumpkin cat mascot. Their paws grow roots to feed the leaves that grow on their tail when they feed. I’d make a shoe cover to paint.
What can't she do!!! Also lol totally agree about the blue vs red design, i felt like the red popped more but i voted for blue bc it was less serious and scawwy LOL
Let me just say I'm *here* for the book recs. Never Let Me Go is also one of my favs, so I'll be checking out the Other Valley. Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel had that dystopian but vintage vibe for me!
the shoes turned out amazing. i love the colors you ended up with! if gus does indeed want a pair, i'd love to see the painting process again with his! i'm feeling very inspired by this video and another commenter who suggested skeleton feet so i may just give this a try... perfect for spooky szn 🎃💀🦴
idk if you're into short stories but love after the end edited by joshua whitehead is really beautiful indigenous speculative fiction and i love it so so much!! and most of the stories definitely have the retro futuristic vibe you were talking about
I look forward to your videos every week, you're videos are so fun and I enjoy them greatly. I kind of like the idea of doing a 3 or 4-toed lizard or bird foot on a pair for shoes.
The next book you’re looking for is The Last Murder at the End of the World by Stuart Turton. Every single thing you listed is exactly this book. Apocalypse adjacent, hunger games energy but also wholesome somehow, slaps ya in the face with emotion at random intervals and set on an isolated island in a beautiful Mediterranean-esque sea? It’s also a lil sci fi and mystery. Need I say more.
