Um how dare you come to MY neck of the woods and go to MY favorite thrift store and not invite ME out for iced coffee?? I'm not sure our internet parasocial bestie relationship can survive this incredible slight.
I love Thrift videos for many reasons. But I think the number one reason is because as a self confessed thrift ADDICT, I get my thrifting FIX without adding more gems to my already full closets!!!!😵💫
WOW... never in my wildest dreams would I think someone from UA-cam would visit my hometown. And I don't ever comment on UA-cam videos, but I had to confirm that the thrift store you went to is *chef's kiss*. There are several other thrift stores in the city that are just as good! I can give recs if anyone is interested!
I lived in Dayton for a long time and all of those recommendations are such good stores! I used to almost exclusively get my wardrobe from the Salvation Army in Middletown! I was there recently and they had what I think was surplus Zara bc there were racks and racks of new Zara clothes. Good shoes there too! I’d also recommend the Goodwill in Oakwood, a super rich part of downtown Dayton where there is a lot of name brand active wear and retro!
Genuinely had to make sure I wasn't hallucinating when you mentioned my book at the end there! This channel is my happy place and it's a bonkers honour to be able to say I've now played a small part in it. Between that and those incredible shoes I may never recover! ♥️♥️♥️
my algorithm stop pushing you so after 2 months of being starved of my eclectic queen I went and searched for you, I am genuinely so happy, every time I watch your videos I feel so happy and like a surge of energy and childlike happiness comes back into me. please never stop posting
i love finding treasure in thrift store gets. i will always remember when i wanted a new wallet and we got a cute patent leather one at a thrift store and when we got home i started hollering and my mum from the other room said "you better have found money in there!" and it was two $50 bills. we still keep that wallet even though its falling apart because its so lucky
My mom gave me a jewelry box at my bridal shower that looks like the one you showed but smaller. That was back in 1982 and I still have it. Glad I kept it, as my mom passed away in 1986.
Kathleen, you have quickly become my comfort UA-cam channel, and the feral gremlin glee I felt when I saw there was a new video... Also, the wildest part of this video was watching strangers talk to you in the thrift store. I live in the greater Seattle area, where I think a stranger would only ever speak to me /maybe/ if I were actively on fire, or something.
hehe awww i'm so glad to hear that!!! also it was STRANGE haha - people usually don't talk to me while thrifting, either! maybe we can blame it on the semi-rural midwestern location 🤔
The Seattle Freeze is real! I'm south of the city by an hour or so now, and there's a stark difference in the way strangers interact here. In Seattle, you'd bump into someone, mumble a "sorry" and move on. Down here, you bump into someone, and twenty minutes later you're at Starbucks and you know that Jamie, their daughter, is deciding between UW and an east coast school after she graduates next Spring. You might also be invited to Thanksgiving. :D
I love the green sandals! So cute! Also…I knew right away what the little hammer was for, thanks to a holiday during which my grandma got a little wine-tipsy, got out her little toolbox, and proceeded to tell us the story of how every single item ended up in said box, giggling herself to tears the entire time. Seeing another little hammer made me smile in a big way!
Gosh I wish I could just watch your content endlessly. It’s precious and realistic while still being quirky and fun. No pressure because I completely understand that you’re a human and content is time consuming to make. But I’m just so sad when the video is over!
I go here A LOT it is my fave thrift store in Dayton but I live like 10min from it so I get to go early and get the good stuff :) glad you got to enjoy it!
Me too! It's also one of my faves. I have approximately 8 fantastic thrift stores within 5 miles of my home. Oh! And FYI - Dayton is birthplace to a lot more than just the airplane and the Wright Bros! We are also the home of the cash register, pop top cans, UPC codes, self-starting ignitions, ice cube trays, cellophane, collapsible baby crib, electric wheelchair, stepladder, and parking meter. Oh and don't forget the home of The Breeders, Guided by Voices and The Ohio Players! =)
It's a cool thrift store. It's always busy. People are so nice there. When I first went there, I thought it smelled of strange, bathroom, lemony anti-bacterial cleaner. But I learned VVA brings their donations there. They "curate" toiletries, makeup, hair products and sell them in large zippered plastic bags for like $3 or $5. You found treasure! I will have to head to Valley Thrift and see if I can find treasure too. I'm glad you went to the Rootbeer Stande. Best burgers.
Oh that yellow dress in the beginning!! I gasped so loudly my partner took off his headphones and asked me what was wrong.. what’s wrong is that I’m not wearing that right now
The Valley Thrift Store is 20 minutes from my house. I find incredible quality and deals. I bought a sofa for $20 (no bed bugs or roaches, it was so clean!) desks for my children's rooms for $5, and I bought 20 kids toys for $30. All the toys were like Fischer Price and Leap Frog, only a few years old AND THEY ALL WORK. Valley Thrift is worth the trip. I bought my boyfriend a BC Rich Vixen guitar for $70 ! They had a big remodel and the prices went up slightly, but it is still so worth it. And they have self check out!
What a cool, huge thrift store! Great finds! Also, I LOVE T. Kingfisher! If you like "Swordheart" you would probably enjoy their "Saint of Steel" series. More adults having adventures, falling in love, dealing with complex issues. Highly, highly recommend
I’m going to harness all of my middle school wood-shop knowledge and combine it with my love of feminine accessories and find a way to make myself a wooden bow. Kathleen always seems to find such cute things! Edit: that rock candy hammer would honestly make a cool layered necklace or bag keychain. I collected tiny metal spoon and tools as a child because I loved using them instead of regular things so I recognize it’s potential😂
Thank you! I saw the rocking chair in your video that I have been searching for for YEARS!! It was still there and is now in my living room. And the Goodwill bins across the street? Yes, please!
whilst the yellow dress is divine, the jewellery box is beautiful...look at that blue velver interior and there are drawers and drawers...a magnificent piece! well done :)
i love that you don't just stick to one thing, but actually talk about other hobbies such as reading! we as humans have so many sides and interests and i love that you show that.
I got a hammer like that at a restaurant in Hong Kong. We had a dish that had a crust of baked clay and the 'special' person at the table got to break the clay crust with such a hammer. And then got to keep it. It was my first time in HK so I was the lucky one...
As my lazy Sunday is coming to an end, I just wanted to thank you for the creativity you bring to UA-cam. I rewatched your videos the entire day, and they brought me so much joy. Needed a mental reset and your artfulness and humor brought me comfort. Thank you for being you ❤
I haven’t figured out a time and method for reading since I had a kid a couple years ago and I miss it so much. I love all of your content, but I’m always a little extra excited when there’s a lil mini booktube segment in a video! It seems like our reading tastes are similar, too, so I have somewhere to go for recs if and when I ever become literate again. 😂💛
Yay I'm glad you guys found treasure! That was fun 😄. I was happy to clean out my Grandparent's house when they passed away and every box I opened was a surprise (I had a running joke with my family that every box from Granny's had a penny, a button, and a screw in it lol - and the occasional tooth). You guys could have found dentures so be glad it was just rubies 🤣
English is not my mother language. So I first thought I heard you say.. "let's talk about bugs".. and I thought, well, why not. Kathleen can talk about anything 🙂
I have been there a few times (my parents live there) and I've scored some seriously awesome things!! LOVE that thrift store!!! I enjoy your humor, creativeness, positivity and funky styles!! Very inspiring!!
Omg the way I panicked when your tablet was close to the water 😅 loved the gus special too! Thanks for your reminder about audiobooks, I've already "read" a book since last week! 💕
I’ve found soooooo many jewelry boxes at that exact thrift store & never found treasure!!! The roadrunner necklace??? Sooooo lucky✨ but from a local - all I can find is she in anymore and those prices are criminal now that they’ve completely redone the store
It is frustrating! They took away the 25% off Mondays and now you need to go by what color the tag is for the discount. The prices have gone up quite a bit too, it is upsetting.
Wow! You were at one of my favorite haunts! Did you hit the goodwill outlet across the street? FYI there are two of the Valley Thrift stores in Cincinnati too. I’m in Dayton but I try to hit the Cincinnati ones every so often. And you are right the prices have become crazy high.
I can't believe that it's taken me so long to find you! My other favorite channels have a historical sewing theme, but I am much more of a thrifter than a sew-er, so your videos make me deeply happy. My parents- especially my mom-were thrifters extraordinaire, so I have a lifelong love of secondhand shopping. I also love animals, so it is my very great pleasure to volunteer at the local Humane Society thrift store!
The green and pink of those shoes were the exact colour combo of my childhood bedroom walls (by choice I will add - I painted them myself lol) and I had all the green accessories to match. Still own and use the green laundry hamper.
Thanks for introducing me to Murderbot. I’m currently binging the audiobooks. Not sure what your target demographic is, but I’m sure a 61 year old woman isn’t in there, but I love your channel. Please keep up the “stinky” shows. 👍😘

I recently got a vintage steel bookshelf from Craigslist and we just got replacement hardware for the knobs from our local reuse/ upcycle store. I really underestimated how much of a difference it would make
I was so stinking happy to see your video today. I have been dealing with a (fairly mild, really) injury this week and needed a pick me up. Your videos always make me smile. And Gus won the treasure hunting internet. ❤
I live like 20mins north of Dayton and I can’t believe in my 45yrs of life I haven’t been to that thrift store. My brother literally goes to the Goodwill 5 out 7 days a week and when takes his vacation days for work he goes to different Goodwills, Thrift Stores and antique shops in Ohio. So if he hasn’t already been to this thrift store we’re going ASAP & maybe find his future wife and some amazing finds. Thanks for sharing 😊 New subscriber btw and I love your style 💛
Looking through all the comments and WOW! There are a lot of Dayton people here on this video! We all need to get together and make our own thrift mall! Goodwill and Valley Thrift and getting crazy with their pricing.
Is Kashi the actual main character of this channel? (Depop.com/kathleenillustrated ✌🏼)
Yes. Yes she is.
It's Kashi's world...we're all just supporting cast ;)
Minute 1 of the video and i see someone here has listened to the brand new Louie Zong album, as one should, because it's REALLY GREAT
I like the idea of all Ohio dads just waiting in the weeds to jump in and make a silly little comment about your choices
lol they couldn’t help themselves! Honestly, peak Midwest energy. I don’t hate it 😹
ohio tourism board should be paying you
I'm gonna screenshot this and send it to them 😤

@clairvoyant896 oh big same! Unfortunately I'm guilty of pausing a video mid-way to go to my local thrift for a quick fix. 😂
Yes!! Right there with ya ❤
I totally agree
The WHIPLASH of seeing this video pop up in my recommended feed not 6 hours after i was just AT VALLEY THRIFT LMAO
Gus' excitement over the teeny hammer was everything!
Anime intro vibes followed by "today we're in Dayton, Ohio, baby" might be the most Kathleen Kathleen has ever Kathleened
The song is from Louie Zong’s new city pop inspired album! Highly recommended.

the rootbeer stande is so good and it’s so fun to go there, i live right around there too
I live just about 3 miles from the Valley and the RootBeer Stand!
It’s about time I get my Kathleen fix 🤭 now I can fold laundry and live vicariously through your thrifting.
