True story... I bought an old jewelry box at my favorite junk shop for like $3 because it was fun and had stuff in it which was really obvious cause there was a lot. Anyway, they sold it all to me together so I assumed none of it was anything more than costume jewelry... Until I looked closer. There were a couple legit gold pieces but the biggest score was a string of pearls I took to the local jeweler just to be sure and... Yep! Like several thousand $$ worth of pearls!
When my sister inherited, from her MIL, a mixture of legit & costume jewelry, she took the whole bunch to get it appraised for insurance. He told her that some of the costume stuff had a very high appraisal, because of craftsmanship, metal & gem quality & age of the piece😮!!! Also don't clean the stuff up! Sometimes just cleaning takes away some of the value❤!!!
i think that original jewelry box would be so cute for art and crafting supplies!! those loooong drawers look good for paint pens, paint brushes, crochet hooks, paint tubes, really anything!!
I add diced onion/chive & or green/red sweet peppers. Peaches or pears are good too. My son's fave is mixed with egg noodles & bacon if it's on hand! I always use it in lasagna instead of ricotta, it's cheaper & tastes better! ❤
Favorite breakfast slop is what I call "breakfast rice" (super imaginative) lol. It's rice, peanut butter, a banana, oat milk, chia seeds, then ghee or coconut oil, plus any vanilla cinnamon etc you want. It's very filling and delicious! Love the video, as usual, babe!
thank you for wearing a respirator while using toxic chemicals!! even in a well ventilated area like outdoors, its always a good idea to wear a respirator when dealing with such toxic materials! protect your lungs!! good role model indeed!
Um actually, was not a respirator, was a mask for particles (dust, smoke particulate, virus etc.) Does not protect against VOCs. Being outside was best move.
Watching this while I work on a funky color palette for my teeny tiny bathroom. I'm thinking pastel peach wainscoting, cheerful sky blue wall above it, with a little red cherry 🍒 print painted all over the blue. It's a little risky and exciting, and watching other people get crafty and creative gives me motivation! So thank you!!! 🌤️🍒🍑🪺
I met a 3 point buck eating apples from a tote in a yard down the road last night. I explained about candy and strangers. I pointed out the highly suspicious antlers hung on the shed. He looked like he agreed he was not making good choices, but he kept scarfing down apples. Maybe he's a stress eater? 🤷♀️
Current favorite Breakfast Slop: white rice in a bowl (I like to cook it in chicken broth for flavor) topped with two sunny side up eggs and garnished with some furikake seasoning, stab those runny yolks and mix up all the goo and go hog wild
My most lazy meal is kinda similar. I make a pot of white rice and right when it’s done cooking, I mix in a raw egg. This might gross some people out because the egg doesn’t get fully cooked and it is a little slimy, but I like it. I learned about it from a chef’s table episode. I usually add soy sauce, sesame seeds, raw spinach and sometimes avocado and onion too if I’m not being my most lazy.
Omg. I love the one you got sent. So perfect. I think you should use the jewelry box you thrifted for craft supplies. So many little drawers to hold crafty knick knacks.
Sewing notions, buttons, needles, etc....or beads and glittery crafty stuff....or those small crafty items that need a home, but only need a small apartment in the craftcondo, and hang out with those other small crafty groupings
My current favorite breakfast clop is Cream of Wheat. I don't make it on the stove OR in the microwave- I use our electric kettle (for tea and coffee) to boil water and while that's going, I add a tablespoon of butter, a pinch of salt, and a couple spoonfuls of the white/brown sugar mix I have in my coffee prep area. Pour the water, give it a stir to make sure there's no clumps, and wait like 2 minutes for it to thicken up. When I was a kid, me and my gramma would have Malt-o-Meal (same food, different brand) for breakfast every day when I would visit her. We'd either have it with maple syrup, or if I was being particularly gremlin-y, I'd add chocolate syrup.
oh my god when i saw the words "thrift flip" i was so scared bc i'm used to people buying decent pieces, doing maybe an hour of work on them, and then selling them for a HUGE markup, which completely prevents people who are trying to save money from buying cool stuff that will actually last. i was like "not my girl Kathleen.........surely that can't be what she's doing.........."
You Got Mail is my New Years Eve movie when I don't have plans. It's so exquisitely dated that it feels special to watch it to celebrate the changing year
Highly suggest The Spirit Bares its Teeth by Joseph White. It's set in an alternate Victorian London where people with violet eyes can speak with ghosts. It can be graphic at times, and tackles some tough situations, but I'm really enjoying it. About halfway through right now and I already have Hell Followed With Us by the same author on my list! Also, if you want a cozy fall read, The Vampire Knitting Club is a very cute series with the most wholesome characters. If you don't have time to read, the audiobooks are amazing, as if the voice actress.
"the only good indians" is SO GOOD but it's a slow build. stephen graham jones in general is SO GOOD. i feel like "i was a teenage slasher" would be up your ally re: recent book mentions.
I really liked Emma In The Night, by Wendy Walker. It's more of a spooky messed up mystery. The basic synopsis is: Two teenage sisters disappear one night. Three years later, only one comes home.
Favourite fall breakfast is not what I eat for breakfast, but more of a snack. Anything maple, praline, caramel, pumpkin spicy, muffins, pancakes, or oatmeal.
This video came *just in time* for me to add a sixth lil guy to my five similarly shaped end tables currently being neglected in my basement lol. I knew someday we'd get to enjoy furniture-related body doubling content with Kathleen, but gorsh I needed that pick-me-up today 💚
This morning I had a bowl of cottage cheese, full fat yogurt, and some fruit compote I had just made. Said compote had plums, pears, apples, vanilla, nutmeg, and a small amount of brown sugar. It was yum.
Juniper and Thorn was a really good book. I wish I had read it in the fall because it's witchy and there are unsolved mysterious murders happening. Beautifully written too! I loved it!
You’ve Got Mail , is in my top 10 comedies ever ❤ Love the jewelry box , definitely use it for small craft supplies like beads, jewelry findings, tools etc 😊
my fav breakfast slop is some good old vanilla yogurt mixed with whatever sugary cereal i have in the house (usually captain crunch) to form the ultimate 8 year old's idea of a parfait 🤙
Kathleen at it again with the coziest bops & tunes in the video!! The Zelda music is perfect for such a good fall vibe 🤎 also you could use the big jewelry box as a tea box for tea organization/storage!
Maybe you can use the first jewelry box to store sewing supplies? Favorite oatmeals at the moment: matcha oat milk + berries or oat milk + chunky monkey flavors
I love how you sneak further and further into the booktube niche with each video... gleefully awaiting the full-on booktube content I assume is coming someday
Loved this! I always love seeing you thrift flip and make something look extra nice! If you ever want to spruce and shine up some woodwork without sanding and refinishing, I use a lemon oil and beeswax polish. No harshness, and it can go over existing finish! It can't hide scratches in dark wood, but it can make it all glow and shine, and protects a bit. I use it on furniture, cabinetry, even things with a wood veneer.
If you ever get into beading or jewelry making, the big jewelry box would be perfect for that. Would also work well for small sewing odds and ends like needles, threaders, bobbins, zippers, snaps, bias tape etc.
Love both jewelry boxes. I think I like the one you worked on abit more. The deep drawers would be great for thick bangle or cuff bracelets which l find hard to store. Having both gives you good reason to thrift some new artsy jewelry finds. 😉😉😉
Omg I’m 99.9% sure I passed this up because I don’t have the money or resources to restore 😭😭 I love her. The lil jiggly handles are my fav. So glad you found her! ❤ I live about 1 min from that thrift store so I’m there an unreasonable amount. 😅
I don't comment much but: 1. Your videos are so calm and relaxing. I love knowing that I can pop any of your videos on and craft along and chill 2. You asked for scary book recs and that is where I basically live in my reading selections. I've broken my recs into vibes and maybe one of them will be the sort of scary you are searching for: Spooky Supernatural Ghosties: The Colony or House of Lost Souls by FG Cottam, Haunted by James Herbert Cursed Media: The Remaking by Clay McLeod Chapman, Demon Theory by Stephan Graham Jones, Night Film by Marisha Pessl (not exactly horror, more thriller but I quite like the world it builds) Spine Tingling Mysteries: The Ghost Writer by John Harwood ( this is an all time favorite of mine that I never hear anyone talk about), The Hour Before Dark by Douglas Clegg Cold Damp Winter Chills: The Sound at the End (this is an audio only tale) by Kirsty Logan, Thin Air or Dark Matter by Michelle Paver The Horrors of Grief: Ghost Eaters by Clay McLeod Chapman, The Haunting of Velkwood by Gwendolyn Kiste October Vibes: Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge, Being Dead by Vivian Vande Velde (specifically the story October Chill). Hope you have a great week, Kathleen!
1) I found a jewelry box that plays the love theme from The Godfather and has latticed doors with a dark walnut finish and I don’t give it nearly the headliner space it deserves 2) The Buried Giant is a devastating book and very good
Semolina slop, made with whatever milk you like. Start with water then add milk, cook until thick, add more milk to creamy as you want. Serve with raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and a bit extra milk on top. Thanks Kathleen for saving wood from paint!
About your large jewelry box, you've mentioned before that you have a dressup trunk for your kidlets. It could be a dressup jewelry box? Alternatively, I think jewelry supplies (making & mending) could also be cool
Love a good thrift flip! the bow is so much my thing 💕 You were actually one of my main inspirations to finally start my own channel. I love your humor, your style, your house and your cute dog. I've always thought that I'd like to do UA-cam at some point and now I've finally dared to do it. But I still have soooo much to learn! Best wishes from Germany, Luisa
Ummmmm you and Guss are the cutest, I mean tutest. I loved seeing the bow come together, I absolutely did not see the potential at first, but now will look at the skill saw dad projects from 20-30years ago in a different light 😊
I do not have any scary book recommendations (life is scary enough for me) BUT when Jelly appeared to harangue you it made me remember a classic scary/cheesy film called Trilogy of Terror, in which for one third starring Karen Black (super scary chick!) a small possessed African doll is unchained and wreaks havoc with teeth and knife... I now can't unsee a Kathleen Illustrated remake starring Kathleen and Jelly ... it would be truly epic.
Ooh I remember that Karen Black episode! I thought that it was from the Crypt Keeper's vault in "Tales From The Crypt"! The 70's had a great collection of horror, TV shows & movies, but especially movies! The House That Dripped Blood, Let's Scare Jessica To Death, The Turn Of The Screw, Dark Shadows❤!!!
Just finished watching Kaos on Netflix! It's like a black comedy of ancient Greek/Roman mythology set in somewhat modern times. Only one season so far but it's sooo good. Plus it has Jeff Goldblum so can't go wrong there
My breakfasts are pretty much always vegan because I read this book that said if everyone was vegan for one meal of the day, it would make a pretty big climate impact. My favorite breakfast slop depends on the season. For fall it’s definitely oatmeal with applesauce and cinnamon. I love going apple picking in the fall and making a ridiculous amount of applesauce and then going through it all and having to go apple picking again to obtain more applesauce. Store bought just doesn’t compare.
Like two separate dishes? Or oatmeal mixed with applesauce & cinnamon? First time I ever made applesauce, I burned up my blender because I didn't have a food processor THEN I found out that it gets cooked down😢!!! That was in the early 80's & we first moved out of town & I learned to can veggies, with better results😂!!!
Everything looks so good and I love the little book talks! If anyone is interested in some spooky books for the season I highly recommend Shirley Jackson, especially The Haunting of Hill House! It's not super scary, but the atmosphere and characters can't be beat!!
That was a super fun video! I need to do something with the 80s jewelry box that I have. My late father gave it to me and since then all of the interior felt got moldy. (Thanks old brick house and humid Lake Michigan!) If anyone has any suggestions or can point me in any direction to fix this please let me know!
I don't have near this much jewelry to fill a box, but I like the first one more! such a great find, love that it looks like miniature wardrobe and not a box :) great job on restoring! always love the thriftflips. Anyway lovely video as always, say hi to your doggie 😍
"you don't want nothin to do with this, dewey!" 🤣 great reference i'm a cottage cheese girlie too!! may we all unite against the haters i love the way the bow & jewlery box turned out! you definitely inspire me to look at "worn down" pieces at the thrift in a different light. it seems so easy to restore/repair! and fun, too!
Love both jewellery boxes - and I could definitely make use of both of them! Was so lucky to find one of those separate tall jewellery chests at the Habitat for Humanity store (a full piece of furniture on its own - hope that makes sense) so I have lots of room for my shiny bits and pieces. Magpie! Best thing about it is that the necklace hangers are 2 skinny doors on either side, and they are so tall that none of my necklaces pool and tangle up at the bottom.
This was a fun video, you are always fun. I don't have any spooky recs except one creepy television show, Broadchurch, with David Tennant in the title role.
i just have to say all your lil outfits in this video are so cute! i was scared about you wearing those light colors while staining though and i'm very impressed they didn't get stained 👏👏

I can name a more iconic trio: Kathleen + Fall + Kashi !!!
I'm so glad Kathleen is spreading the good word of Restor-A-Finish and not painting wood! Wood is pretty!
Howard's clean and wax is a go to for me on anything wood. Love that stuff.
There really isn't anything better than watching a new Kathleen video right after work

If it were me, I'd stack the smaller jewelry box on top of the larger, and fill both of them with jewels. I confess. I'm a jewelry hoarder.
But wouldn't the largest jewellery box simply eat the other???

First time I ever made applesauce, I burned up my blender because I didn't have a food processor THEN I found out that it gets cooked down😢!!! That was in the early 80's & we first moved out of town & I learned to can veggies, with better results😂!!!
Monstrillio is such an amazing book! Love the bow❤❤❤
Oh my, that wooden bow was so not my thing but I love that striped effect and now I want one
ah!! a new kathleen video!! right on time to fill up the kathleen shaped hole in my heart!!
"you don't want nothin to do with this, dewey!" 🤣 great reference
i'm a cottage cheese girlie too!! may we all unite against the haters
i love the way the bow & jewlery box turned out! you definitely inspire me to look at "worn down" pieces at the thrift in a different light. it seems so easy to restore/repair! and fun, too!
You inspire me to craft!! Thanks Kathleen!
Love how they both turned out! And I'm obsessed with that spiderweb sweater! 🖤
Omg, the jewelry box that was sent to you is absolutely perfect 🤩 I really like the one you thrifted as well
I have so been wanting to learn to sew ... so I signed up! Thanks Kathleen!
It's the endless sad doggy looks for me
I love using jewelry boxes to hold my sewing stuff
Congrats on your new jewelry box! Love what you bring to the internet.
alana is a gosh darn angel i would have kept this lil treasure for myself!

This was a fun video, you are always fun. I don't have any spooky recs except one creepy television show, Broadchurch, with David Tennant in the title role.
everything came out amazing! really love the bow :)
I just finished 'We Used to Live Here' & it was a wild ride! Very spooky & kept me guessing the whole time!
PS Youve Got Mail is my go to Fall movie
Love love love the lil twirly pop bow! So cute 🥰
i just have to say all your lil outfits in this video are so cute! i was scared about you wearing those light colors while staining though and i'm very impressed they didn't get stained 👏👏
