- Wreck It Ralph gave some of our favorite characters makeovers, and not all of them were good!

Adapting a character into a new medium is tricky. Just look at the live-action Lion King as an example.
That film is getting a lot of flack for its redesign, but Wreck-It Ralph 2 redid a lot of iconic characters too! Every single Disney Princess was adapted for the animated world of the internet. Characters that were stuck in 2-D animation found new life in the 3-dimensional space. Sometimes the new looks paid off big time. However, other times, the creative liberties taken by the animators failed to work. The Binger wants to examine those triumphs and mishaps a little closer. There’s a ton of Disney cameos in this film, but we think we’ve found the best ones to spotlight. Well, by best we mean worst and best. They’re both included here.
It’s about to get extremely critical in the latest video from The Binger. You don’t want to miss this list! - Фільми й анімація
Mulan didn't disguise herself as a soldier, she disguised herself as a man. She WAS a soldier.

OMG YESS

He didn’t even mention her smh
And how they changed her skin and hair color

Pocahontas was actually cool. Her “boxy” face was accurate to her original design and it gave her a more dignified and strong presence
I respectfully and partially disagree. The original Pocahontas had a strong-ish chin, but she was still fery feminine. This Pocahontas has a chin like a damn boxer. She does need a strong, confident jawline, but I feel like they went too far with it.
@@rollingthunder1043 what exactly is a "confident" jawline..
I disagree. I feel like her character is culturally insensitive and her appearance in Wreck it Ralph 2 is even more so.
@@rollingthunder1043 Are you goddamned high? The original pochahontas has a much bigger and boxier chin, and looks like a trans woman.
Yeah. The 3D Pocahontas' jaw and chin features looked softer to me in the comparison pictures. Ironically, I feel like her larger eyes give her more of a sharp look then her 2d counterpart, but I wouldn't say that takes away from the character necessarily. After all, these are technically wreck-it-ralph styled caricatures of the the characters
OK, WTF since when did people start hating the original 2d characters.
Dunno since maybe every director started making new characters. I dont like the new cartoons or nickelodeon nor disney everything is new i dislike the new Teen Titans version tbh

@@Jojo-op9ic Yeah but most of the time her hair covers them.
I was just gonna comment this but you beat me
i like that they kept pocahontas’ jawline strong and sharp cause like? its accurate
Yes because she’s that kinda woman like why would he talk about her like that!!
Abcsefgijklmnopqrstuvwxyz A I thought it was more so her complexion. She “copper-skinned”, and she looks lighter than that
Damaris Pierce i agree with you on that
i havent really met any full blood natives that have that light of skin and she was definitely darker skinned in the original movie
The problem mentioned is that the jaw was pinched to a point, it gets really narrow towards the bottom of her face. Also that the character gets shrunk in a way that looks off.
Exactly and Mico looks the exact same as he does in the original
should've called this video 'local man doesn't know what women look like or that animators aren't character designers'
OK, to be fair I didn't know the "animators aren't character designers" part either. I was today years old when I learned that there's a team to decide what the character should look like, a team to build a 3D model based on that, and a third team to make that 3D model move. And no team has any meaningful say in what the other teams do or decide. So the modelling and animation team is "stuck" with what the design team decided.
@@rollingthunder1043 Ok and how old are you exactly?
Regardless of who does what I'm pretty sure that the point of the criticisms were towards the characters ... And he's not wrong about his comparisons. Some were on point, some were off. It has nothing to do with real women in the first place.
Exactly lol
yall they have to make their facial and body features to fit wreck it Ralph, the movie style is not to fit real life, they designed Ralph as a giant guy who can wreck literally everything and a little kid who drives a race car.
Pocahontas jawline is gorgeous, the thing they messed up on her is not her jawline but her nose, and they should have kept her eyes the same size as the 2D look, having “small” eyes is ok too.
The challenge was that this style of animation pretty much gives everyone big eyes, so it would’ve looked off relatively
Small eyes are ugly
Andrea Does I disagree. I’m certain that it had more to do with consistency in the style of most of the princesses
Manuel Gonzalez Parra soy española jajajajaja
Andrea Does que tiene que ver? 😂
Im sorry but among these princess redesigns, Mulan is probably on top as the best one. even her casual clothing look is far better than the others.

It just looked way worse to me she was barely even featured in the movie to begin with
None of the original characters look "dull"
yeah they cant just say that the original characters are so iconic and no one can make a better version of them
Finally a comment like these the original characters are perfect they can just say they can be a better version
But snow white is
No offense...but Ariel’s Dress was VERY dull

I'm sorry, Ariel's original design is perfect. She was beautiful in the movie, the most beautiful princess ever.

John Mendenhall Thank you! He kept saying that the 2D versions were dull but those are specific style choices that were made for a reason!
Well I mean, Jasmine's dress looked like every average female, she did need some golden fringe
I mean, for a princess, Jasmine should have more to her outfit but it just looks like any of the normal outfits the people in the town wears instead.

I am so sick of 3-D animation making everybody look like they have the same chibi face, all of the characters look amazing in 2-D. I’m so tired of everybody shitting on 2-D animation when it can be an amazing art form. As someone who loves the process of 2-D animation and what goes into creating such a masterpiece, this video pisses me the hell off. If you’re so stuck up your own ass in modern day animation that you think 3-D animation is superior to 2-D animation then go watch Klaus on Netflix. I truly believe that that is where Disney would be if they would’ve just let Pixar stick with 3-D animation and they put time and effort into 2-D animation. Of course to the animation isn’t going to be as the same detail as 3-D animation especially when the 2-D animated films were made 40 to 10 years ago, Technology has changed so much and you can get so much more detail in. But you can also get that detail into 2-D animation if they just put effort into it. I miss with all of my soul 2-D animation. Some of Disney’s the last 2-D Animated films are spectacular masterpieces to watch but the main stream audience got too caught up in 3-D animation that they didn’t pay attention to it. And vice versa some of Disney’s early 3-D animated films are awful to look at. Stop making bullshit videos for views.
I totally agree with you, i dont like this new 3-D thing, they all look bugs to me with those huge heads and eyes. The tech back was limited but you can see with how much effort those 2-D movies were created , they still look amazing to me, the colors, the facial expressions everything. Unlike the 3-D ones with all the aportunities they have, its seems like they miss something
IKR?! Just looking at the 3-D versions, they all look the same. Huge eyes big head, almost disturbing
Yes, I really love the 2d more
THIS.👏
Preach! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Im actually pissed off by this, Jasmine is my favorite disney princess and when he said "iNcrEdibLy DuLL" I'm offended by that like really really offended
Honestly he used dull so many times in the video I’m not even sure he knows what it means, she’s definitely not dull neither were other characters designs that he criticised
I’m also mad about when they said Ariel’s original design was dull..
I think everyone else does not understand the meaning of dull. If you're comparing the two art forms, one of them is duller than the other. The color intensity, and the details are not there. THAT IS THE MEANING OF DULL.
@@Milohsan And the limitations of the medium was never taken into consideration? Shadows and highlights can't be pushed quite as strongly in flatter cell shading which is used for traditional animation. As a result, bright colours would make the scene garish. 3D animation can take more liberties with having multiple extreme colours because lighting can be graduated as to break up the colour. Do you have any experience in animation at all?
I am offended by him litterally purposely insulting princesses and women does he not know men are the one who created the movie so thats why they don't know how to see the jaw line
The difference of Cinderella is the ears
Yes!!!
Yess in the animated movie she never has ears due to hair
And hair color. They changed her strawberry blonde to...goldilocks blonde. Which, the franchise kept messing with heir hair color, to be fair. (And her dress.)
So, if they kept her hair strawberry blonde, and her dress silver? Probably would’ve been fine. (the bangs were really thick...which just looked like a bad helmet)
So is jasmine 😂😂😂
Cinderella's hairstyle covering her ears never bugged me, but Pocahontas's lack of a nose always bugged me.
I think every princess looked just as good or better than the original besides Cinderella. What have y'all got against square jaws on women? I think Pocahontas and Mulan look amazing and their jaws are very fetching. I do agree that Cinderella looked a little too childish in her main look, but once she changed into her pajamas with her more casual hairstyle she looked much better.
You can't be serious regarding Elsa and Anna, who look weird and goofy in this movie in comparison to how they look in the _Frozen_ movies and shorts. Fortunately (from my point of view), all of these designs are only for this one movie, and won't be used in the future. For instance, Elsa and Anna are back to normal for _Frozen II_ (aged by 3 years but it's really subtle and they are, after all, 3 years older now, officially, while we're all 6 years older :) ).
Huh yeah... I’m a girl and I have a square face :/
@@rbrtck I certainly see what you mean, however, all the princesses were meant to be more "cartoony" to match each other and the style of the movie. They made sure no princess was identical to her movie self, and with that in mind, I think they did a good job "chibi"-fying Elsa and Anna. You're not wrong for preferring their real style over the Wreck it Ralph version, but I stand by my opinion that they look just as well done (to me) as their originals :)
@@starletd6819 Square jaws (and faces) are beautiful! Just think of how pretty Keira Knightley is and how square her jaw is. I just don't know what the people who made this video were thinking. Criticizing jaws for being "square"? It's like... So? And that's not pretty... how?
@@barefoot4always I think they did a much better job with Ariel, Rapunzel, and Moana, whose stylistic tweaks are far less distracting and, to me, off-putting than those of the others.

you... you realize women can have “boxy” chins too right?
When he first brought up Pocahontas I thought he was gonna say it wasn't "boxy" enough, I feel like in the original they nailed the super strong jaw line lol
The video wasn't saying "women can't have boxy chins", they were saying "giving these specific characters jawlines THAT square felt like an unpleasant/excessive departure from their original design"
@@rollingthunder1043
But Pocohantas HAS that kind of jaw line.
Agreed. Pocahontas was perfect just the way they did her. She ALWAYS had a boxy chin and jawline.
*Pocohontas*
How dare you say Jasmine looks dull in the original movie, HOW DARE YOU
Yeah, I understand his point, but TheBinger could’ve learned that just because Princess Jasmine’s character design is very simple doesn’t mean that it isn’t something. She was very attractive and animated with a lot of character in the original Aladdin trilogy, and that was very sufficient for us.
Jasmine is my favorite Disney princess!!!!
He did!? I was too busy getting lost in her A-ra-bian eyyyyyyyyes.

The original 2D designs had much more expression and really were art. The new ones all have the same style, which makes it kinda boring.
Weird how you think so little of 2D animation and Dumbo is a great, deep and very moving film.
I prefer 2D animation so much more- the stylization and animation leave room for such better storytelling.
In this movie, the princesses feel more or less the same.
*When you like the original designs more
Meeeee!!!
Same here
Yup

Well I like them both
Welp for I guess this is my opinion XD
I cant take this seriously, when ever the guy says "the animators designed" the animators are NOT the design teams. The animators have no choice in what the characters look like, all the animators do is ANIMATE the rigs that the design team came up with, and the builds team modeled
I really can't take any of this seriously when he sounds like he has no idea what he's talking about
To be fair, I didn't know that part either. I didn't know there was a specific team to design a character, a separate team to build the 3D model, and a third team to make that model move and that each team has no say in what the others do.
Mulan looked just fine to me! I think she's the best one to be honest!

How could you forget princess Tiana, they completely changed her entire look. They made her look bi racial with loose curly hair when she is obliviously dark skinned with tighter coiled hair. 😑😑😑

Probably to fit with the tone, Elsa/Tiana's stories are a little more...mature? At least with Tiana, I remember more realistic proportions. But since Wreck it Ralph is a comedic movie, all the princesses in general got big bobble heads with saucer eyes and I feel somewhat generic?? features. EXACTLY. I can't agree more
I can explain Buzz's character design, and the same applies to Merida.
Both of them were animated at Pixar. This film was a Walt Disney feature. They have a different animation style than Pixar, and those two basically just got more of the lighter Disney touch rather than their heavier look Pixar gives them
Smartest comment I've seen yet I just wish they done jasmine sense she was made in 2d but she wasn't better or worse honestly
It looks more modern but the originals were classic’s
Ight, everyone knows that most of these princess movies were older, and they didn't exactly have the technology we have today? I mean, this video is basically saying that the animated in the older movies were "not good enough". And also, the animators aren't the same as before, so it's not their fault. And the setting is supposed to be a website, so of course they're a little fancied/altered ( I just saw the title and decided to rant before I even finished watched the while video).

I personally don’t like to make fun of Disney character designs based on other opinions. I think both the 2d and 3D designs were amazing! This just shows how much Disney has evolved in their animation skills.
"Jasmine looks incredibly dull in the original movie" "Dumbo feels like a lower tier film" I didn't realize opinions like this even existed...
Honestly, the wreck it Ralph versions were worse to me. They all had the same mold for the faces, they all looked alike and they were just boring to me.
The original versions of these Disney characters will always and forever have a place in our hearts for generations to come. NOT the wreck it Ralph versions.
Lilly Cofell Rapunzel, Merida, Moana, Elsa and Anna didn’t look too right either. I think it comes down to the art style of Wreck it Ralph. If Disney did made 3d renditions of their movies, they would look better

Actually the Disney Characters were perfect the way they were..
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the biggest thing that made Cinderella look “off,” especially when you mentioned it with Pocahontas (which was a non-issue for me): her jawline. Cinderella has a soft, round jaw and chin and they made it sharp and pointed in the movie. They also made her eyes and mouth way too big and didn’t give enough room to her long cheeks. It’s not the bangs that do her in, it’s just the overall composition of her face that is nowhere close to the original.
I absolutely loved their portrayal of Merida. Wish she got more screen time.

2. Princess Jasmine, plain? Come on, are you for real? Did we watch the same Aladdin? There's a lot of descriptors when it comes her; independent, kind-hearted, spirited, courageous but plain? No way! She is anything but that!
Thebinger: no one really remembers dumbo
Me:dumbos my favorite Disney character 😱
I honestly loved all of them. But I appreciated Ariel, Aurora, Pocahontas, and jasmine the most
I liked seeing the princesses in wreck it Ralph but I think they all looked better in their own films
yup
except Snow White
Andrea Vancsa I agree
sorry, but i disagree
Gacha_Blondie_uwu_ love your pfp
Srsly? Comparing 1980s-2015s Disney with 2019s Disney? Technology develop man
The Disney Princess portion of Wreck it Ralph was one of my fave animated scenes in recent years. I love when companies can laugh at themselves, especially when what they are laughing at is so engrained into what the brand is; like Disney Princess tropes
Pls remember that art style plays a huge part in why the characters may seem different from their original 2D versions. Wreck it Ralph generally has larger or exaggerated features (which is very common in animation) and almost chibi like body proportions (vanellope and other sugar rush racers for example) so it makes sense why some of the jawlines were exaggerated and how the new designs weren't very proportionate or how the characters may appear younger and less mature but then again most of the princesses' original ages were far younger than how they were portrayed in their movies and I don't see much of a problem with these new designs. Also, I think the word you were looking for was 'simplified'. 2D animation was much harder and more time consuming than it is now so simpler designs made it easier for them to finish the movies. They didn't intend or wanted them to be dull.
They keep enlarging the characters’s eyes to make them look younger... that’s a shame
......thats the art style
Just gonna say I love my childhood Ariel nothing with change my mind that all the princess were perfect for there time the movie took on a new look at them but the older versions wher still amazing.
And don’t you dare hate on eore he has depression
“How??....howwwwww?”
😂sounded like a genuine letdown
mulan and pocahontas looks fine idk what your talking about
Wreck It Ralph did some of these justice, while screwed up some of the others.
Kingdom Hearts on the other hand nailed all of these.
Mulan looks good IMO you’re not considering the wreck it Ralph art style
Is that a fellow BotW fan I see?
ZeldaHarp why yes it is!
Prince Sidon is hot eh?
Gabli.heichou lmao the fan art is hotter than the real thing 😂 what does that have to do with this?
@@heroofthyme4237 shhhhhhh
My sister's been listening to Disney princess songs a lot lately. As I was listening to you guys talk about Pocahontas, the song "Colors of the Wind" came on.
Eeyore sounds like he's weary from fighting a million-year battle with an evil giant robot.
that's specific!
