I have a theory that in the beginning this movie should have been the film of the TV serie "Super 4", and it was pretty good even if it is kinda simple. I said that for 2 reasons: 1) In the Italian Wikipedia in the Super 4 page there is written that in 2018 there will be a Super 4 film and at the end there is this film (I don't know if in the other Wikipedias there is written this); 2) In this movie there are similar things to the tv series: there is an agent who is very intelligent and creates things (the agent from the TV serie is 100 better than the Daniel Ratcliffe one), the setting of the fairyland in the movie is similar to the TV serie's one and other things... I don't know why the producers didn't do a movie about Super 4, it has so much potential than the "Playmobile Movie", they could give much lore in the serie and they could give a true good finale... [I'm sorry if I did grammatical's error in this comment, English is not my native language😅).
Random thing I found on Wikipedia of all places while learning about this movie: In 2016, a guy named Bob Persichetti was going to be the director and screenwriter of this movie. He pitched it to Sony Pictures Animation. Although Sony wanted to buy the pitch, it fell through. Though he was eventually offered to instead direct a little movie they just started working on named *Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse* Honestly, that's a turn of events I did not expect either.
- Mcfat - They would be good if they weren’t supposed to look like playmobil characters. Like fuck man I would absolutely love something animated in this style but if they remove the fact that it was supposed to be playmobil, they could make it so much more diverse and creative because playmobil has no creativity
The animation is *technically* good. It’s very fluid, the textures are pretty ok for the characters and sets needing to look like plastic, etc. the characters are expressive and the models and characters designs are cute and nice to look at. It’s just not very creative. You can even step away from The Lego Movie and look at both Wreck-It-Ralph movies, the stilted animation of some of the characters being very representative of their respective games. Technically jerky animation isn’t “good” but in that context it’s much better than what we see in the Playmobil movie because emulating a particular look and feel, is more creative and much harder to accomplish, than simply having technically “good” animation.
Interesting how after the "funny walking scene" of the girl that had just become a playmobil figure, every single playmobil character is suddenly able to bend their knees...
Obviously it was just done for a funny bit piece, but we could say that bending plastic knees just feels different so it took her a moment to figure it out? The fear of the battle caused her to just jump into running without overthinking it, and once she had done it she understood the difference. And since all the other characters, minus her brother, have always been playmobil, there was no learning curve for them. Still a poor explanation, but it’s the closest thing I can think of that somewhat makes sense if I try to think about it 😅

I actually liked Cars. The story was weak and the characters were tedious for the most part, but, as you can expect from Pixar, they put enough detail and good jokes in to make it interesting and entertaining. This just looks dull and uninspired by comparison.
@@VGamingJunkieVT I liked Cars 32 for some reason. Sure, it's not as good as other Pixar films such as The Incredibles or Toy Story, but even a weak Pixar film is still better than most other CGI animated films.
The premise is relatively interesting, the animators are talented, and the artstyle is great. Too bad the plot is utter, utter trash and the movie is clearly a shameless cash grab, otherwise it could’ve worked
@Dusk Raccoon Yeah, Lego naturally leaves way more room fore creativity, so naturally a movie based on Lego has more potential (not to speak of all the licenses they could use). But still, Playmobil can be a creative toy, too, and at least in Europe it's quite a big thing (Well, I'm from Germany, the country where it comes from, so naturally it's most popular here - I don't know if it's that much a thing in other countries, too), so a movie based on that premise might still have been great, but they wasted its potential almost completely.

I think that what would make this movie at least a little bit better is if the brother actually learned something due to the whole adventure. The film basically now shows that the sister was wrong, even though she kept the whole house, making food for her brother and working hard for their living. I think that it would be better if brother while being kept in the prison was treated horribly wrong, like not getting a lot of food and being insulted. That would give him comparasion of how his sister always treated him right and and that could give him character development. There is a lot of more to fix here but I think that would make the "lesson" more convincing. You still here? How sweet of you! Here, have a cookie 🍪

No. They have very small parts and it is nothing like Lego. I actually love playmobil. It does not deserve the hate it gets. I had two playmobile dinosaur sets, a princess castle, a playmobil house, symbolisms zoo and playmobile pool. It was a lot of fun. It’s very well made, sure, call me a fan girl, but it was my childhood. The detail and quality put into the toys are actually some of the best. The movie is shit, but the toys are great. My parents have my old toys ready for when I have my first children.
@@izzyboola8889 I feel like I would be more interested in the story if it wasn't so blatantly trying to be exactly like The Lego Movie. The Lego Movie already did the real world connection thing, why not have The Playmobil Movie take place entirely in the Playmobil universe? They could still do a team work message, The Lego Batman Movie did that without a real world connection.
It's so easy to forget all the composers, animators, modelers, and concept artists and all the things they did right when the people writing the story fail to make the whole thing entertaining. I think that it's important to acknowledge the people who really did put their best foot forward despite knowing it would probably go to waste, even if it's just saying "Hey, the finished product wasn't very good but you guys really did do a good job with the visuals/music/concepts and it *does* show." It would be so easy to just give up and do the bare minimum knowing that all your hard work is being put into a sinking ship.
I actually don't get why so many people compare Lego and Playmobile. I mean, the movie is ripping off the Lego Movie, but the actual toy is not. Lego is building blocks, playmobil is detailed dollhouses for all genders. They only get compared because of their hands.
but Playmobil and Lego are corporate rivals. you do ‘build’ the playmobil sets, but nothing more. anyways playmobil is trash and I hope they go bankrupt
I hate how they made a joke about Marla not being able to walk because her legs don't bend, then for the rest of the movie everybody's legs are able to bend, including hers. (Random example: 13:57) I hate it because of what the Lego Movie did (and succeeded with). The characters moved just like real Legos. Here, they just make a "OoOoOhH, she has to move just like a real Playmobil figure" joke and then drop it immediately afterward. Everybody moves like a human, which is fine if they wouldn't have mentioned the possibility of the characters functioning as Playmobils and then just gotten rid of it.
At the studio... "So, what will our character's backstory be?" "They are bored and accidentally discover a new world!" "They are a sick kid and get a Christmas gift!" "Their parents die." "..." "YOU GET A PROMOTION JOHN!"
1:51 “Unearned cash grab”. That is some pretty strong wording for a movie that ISN’T even a Lego movie rip-off,Dazzreveiws! The plots of the 2 movies are WAY different!
I used to do just that as a kid, actually. I didn’t get to have LEGOs, and was raised on Playmobil instead (tragic, I know). My obsession with animation lead me to do little stop motions.
The primary problem with this film's concept for me (having only seen the trailers) is a lack of iconography. LEGO has ton of well known (at least to its fanbase) and interesting original characters under it's belt, like Johnny Thunder, Lloyd Garmadon, the Classic Spacemen. In addition they've got a ton of notable licensed charactes like Gandalf, Batman, and Han Solo. With The LEGO Movie they managed to weave in tons of background characters and easter eggs so that both hardcore LEGO Fans and casual cinema viewers could catch something that related to them. But Playmobile, as far as I know, doesn't really do that. Much like LEGO's original Town theme, Playmobile doesn't really go for iconography with its characters. They're designed to be generic and basic and (dare I say it?) bland. When TLM came out I saw tons of people freaking out over "oh my god its the Series 2 Vampire" or "oh look its those weird 2002 basketball figs" or "did you catch that? It was the Toa Mata!" I don't know if this could match that level of hidden references. One would argue that goes against the "product placement" point, but most of the easter eggs in TLM were from long retired products, acting more as nostalgia than advertisements. Of course, all of this is coming from someone who's been following LEGO for 12 years and never touched Playmobile so maybe I'm just underplaying their character designs.
@@KougajiCalling they do. In the scene with the highway. Also, thanks to the KlickyPedia for the info on old sets. The robot is an actual thing from Playmobil's back catalogue of old space crap. Yes, they had retro space crap, just like Lego did. It was released in the 80s in Spain, I think?
Playmobil sucks. Lego is our overlord. I had a Playmobil set at those after-school club/activity thingys, and at that time they also had tons of Lego. I looked at the Playmobil set with my friends once, then we built Lego. The Playmobil was given away.
The Lego Movie wasn't a musical, but the sequel was. But it managed to be self aware of this, while having no effect on the real world. It even managed to spawn a new ear worm of a song called: Catchy Song (The song that fully embraces being stuck in your head). Sure it wasn't as good as the first movie, but it was still enjoyable for what it was. I personally think it's underrated just because it did poorly in the box office when it didn't really deserve it. Well at least it didn't end on a cliffhanger to get you hyped for another movie, and if it means no more Lego movies, at least it has ended on a high note. Playmobil The Movie on the other hand won't be remembered over time. I mean, it already struggled to get into cinemas in the US despite existing for several years and people still barely acknowledge its existence. Overall: Lego is a great toy brand with great movies. And no imitation will be able to top them, especially in movies from what I've seen so far.

nomemates21 it exists yes for toys but children and adults didn’t forget about the company it was also there to show yes a movie can be made out of legos.
They missed the opportunity to have the fairy godmother and the viking leader to be the protagonists dead parents reincarnated in playmobil form or they could've just been the two playmobil figures that the parents used and the kids are reminded of them.
That would be a rip-off of Kubo. Why is every suggestion here just a rip-off of another movie? Yet everyone has the nerve to call this movie a rip-off of the LEGO movie... M'kay.
Okay real talk, the animation of this movie looks wonderful, both in movement and in artstyle. The same company actually made Mune which looks gorgeous so maybe the company didn't have good writers on their team even though Mune is pretty alright from what I remember.
Yes, they do: They make people actually pay money to see a 90-minute commercial, which in turn makes then pay even more money to buy all the products advertised. Genius, isn't it?
The Lego movie 2 is mostly a musical but the difference is, is that Lego movie 2 is a good movie :] (Edit can u guys pls stop responding I'm begging u guys to chill out ok) Edit 2: it's so dark here.........
I had a few playmobil sets a long time ago, from what i remember, unlike lego they were less focused on the building side and more focused on scenes with characters n stuff
If this had actually been written by kids, Maximus definitely would have been fed to the t-rex. Probably several times over in some kid-logic way. Source: Me and my friends had toy dragons and fed barbies to them. Kids are always weirder than you think.
My siblings and I had a playmobile dragon that would eat the playmobile characters ... until its head broke off so it was then a zombie dragon. It would always spare the horses because they were caffeinated and the dragon hated coffee. Probably a lot more stuff happened but this is all that I can remember 🙃
Calling Playmobil a rip off of Lego is equivalent to calling every plastic figure toy made after 1978 a rip off of Lego. further more Playmobil figure PREDATED Lego Minifigures by four years(1974). Toys are toys, it's fine to compare, but calling everything ripoffs is just ridiculous.
Actually the animation is pretty dull. It's okay as such, but it just looks like a generic, uninspired CGI world and for the most part looks nothing like Playmobil. The Lego Movie was so great because everything actually looked as if it was made out of Lego, even fire and water had Lego dots. It would have been rather easy to make everything look more like plastic, but they got even that wrong.
@@torstenscholz6243 i know, the studio probably thought that making the film actually look like playmobil was too risky or some bullcrap, but i still think the way the faces move is cute considering what type of movie this is. they should have been more creative though.
When the making of the Lego Movie became publicy known, the Playmobil Movie was already in planning, so this was no rip of. It was obviousely just time for turninig toy brands into movies. Which one is better is of course a matter of opinion, and of course the Lego movie had a much bigger budget.

It should’ve stuck with his story Here’s how it would go: The main character spends 6 minutes in the live action sequence, where she transforms into an animated character after getting into an accident after trying to escape a government facility. The animation sequence starts and she meets a look-a-like of the guard before she transformed at his mansion and is given a tour. The guard reveals himself to be Dasher. He tells her that he is trying to hide from a evil organization. The organization finds them and the first fight begins and they (the organization) leaves after getting overwhelmed with Dasher’s gadgets. The two characters spend a date at a restaurant and enjoy each other. The next day, Dasher calls the main character telling her that he is worried that the organization is watching over him, the call hangs up and she heads to his mansion to find him tied in a chair by the organization. She tries to help him but realizes the chair handles are covered in glue. Dasher tells her he will be fine. She tells him how she doesn’t know anything about helping him. Feeling angry. Dasher tells her to leave. She does so and finds that a high power laser is on Dasher’s doorstep, She sees two guards bringing it in. They close the door and she climbs to the top of the building and finds her way inside. She chases the guards away and grabs the chair holding Dasher and unties him from it. The leader of the organization finds them and alerts his guards about their whereabouts. The guards are defeated, leaving the leader as the last remaining villain, The organization leader grabs Dasher and attempts to make a deal with the main character, she refuses and Dasher is nearly thrown off the building only to discover that his butler has his personal plane available. The leader finds his way in there and sends its coordinates to an island and fights Dasher. The main character stowed away on the plane and assists Dasher in the fight, giving him his laser. However he (the villain) misses the target and accidentally punctures the bottom of the plane causing him to fall through the plane into a volcano. Dasher, the main character and his butler escape and head back to his mansion. The main character leaves the animated world and heads back to find that her grandparents were waiting for her in the government facility and take her home. In a post credits sequence, Dasher is shown to have bought a new security system to make sure no villains can enter his mansion.
Why is the animation of his ripoff so good? Like seriously, most movies of this nature aren’t even illumination level, but I’d say this one is good enough to be a B roll Pixar movie. Like cars. Edit: HOLY £*(|{ ! This is the most attention one of my comments have gotten!
The Playmobil toys are pretty big here in Germany (nearly as big as lego) so they knew that the movie was going to attract some customers and therefore they put a lot of money into it. So the movie isn't a ripoff in the way like a shady companie rips off a well known movie to trick people into buying the wrong thing, but more in the way that a well known brand (with a lot of money) tried to cash in into the success of the lego movie.

I have a theory that in the beginning this movie should have been the film of the TV serie "Super 4", and it was pretty good even if it is kinda simple.
I said that for 2 reasons:
1) In the Italian Wikipedia in the Super 4 page there is written that in 2018 there will be a Super 4 film and at the end there is this film (I don't know if in the other Wikipedias there is written this);
2) In this movie there are similar things to the tv series: there is an agent who is very intelligent and creates things (the agent from the TV serie is 100 better than the Daniel Ratcliffe one), the setting of the fairyland in the movie is similar to the TV serie's one and other things...
I don't know why the producers didn't do a movie about Super 4, it has so much potential than the "Playmobile Movie", they could give much lore in the serie and they could give a true good finale...
[I'm sorry if I did grammatical's error in this comment, English is not my native language😅).
Bro, you just unlocked a forgotten childhood show of mine.
Random thing I found on Wikipedia of all places while learning about this movie:
In 2016, a guy named Bob Persichetti was going to be the director and screenwriter of this movie. He pitched it to Sony Pictures Animation. Although Sony wanted to buy the pitch, it fell through. Though he was eventually offered to instead direct a little movie they just started working on named *Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse*
Honestly, that's a turn of events I did not expect either.

Don’t lie y’all, the animation is actually very good. It is the plot/ story that is the culprit
Yeah.
Guess so but when I saw it on Netflix I cringed lol
yea the animation.. WOW
Ikr
Interesting how after the "funny walking scene" of the girl that had just become a playmobil figure, every single playmobil character is suddenly able to bend their knees...
But then the Lego Movie actually has n=them never bend their knees.
She’s a trendsetter
Obviously it was just done for a funny bit piece, but we could say that bending plastic knees just feels different so it took her a moment to figure it out? The fear of the battle caused her to just jump into running without overthinking it, and once she had done it she understood the difference.
And since all the other characters, minus her brother, have always been playmobil, there was no learning curve for them.
Still a poor explanation, but it’s the closest thing I can think of that somewhat makes sense if I try to think about it 😅

I used to do just that as a kid, actually. I didn’t get to have LEGOs, and was raised on Playmobil instead (tragic, I know). My obsession with animation lead me to do little stop motions.
Yo you kept saying OC character which means Original character character 😂
That made me laugh. You meant OG character probably or simply OC 😅😅
They could have had the Ghostbusters... So... That's... Something...
Holy crap thats long
@@KougajiCalling they do. In the scene with the highway. Also, thanks to the KlickyPedia for the info on old sets. The robot is an actual thing from Playmobil's back catalogue of old space crap. Yes, they had retro space crap, just like Lego did. It was released in the 80s in Spain, I think?
@@cardboard8073 I think you're right... But I'm not certain. They also had pirates.

Ikr, I grew up with Playmobil and still respect it to this day. But this movie was unnecessary.
Calling Playmobil a rip off of Lego is equivalent to calling every plastic figure toy made after 1978 a rip off of Lego. further more Playmobil figure PREDATED Lego Minifigures by four years(1974). Toys are toys, it's fine to compare, but calling everything ripoffs is just ridiculous.
this proves playmobil is just lego you can't build with
Bruh, playmobil is the shit here in Europe, at least in Spain.
@@BluestSoldier maybe in spain but in germany nobody wanted or wants to use them
I mean, you can play the same way with lego the way you can with playmobil. Exept lego can do way more than playmobil can.
@@n1c437 I saw another comment that said that in France they are a big thing too.
@@BluestSoldier ah ok maybe germany is just rly weird compared to other countries in europe

Playmobil is below Mega Blox, which is certainly below Duplo, which is, without bias, below Lego. Just a fact.

Honestly the animation actually looks kind of cute and charming...
Is fine
Ikr. I love the animation. It's sad such talent went to waste
The animation is bad, poop
@@rustydirector8804 are you 5?
Poly Steve's wife and girlfriend probably
It sucks that this poor writing and lack of creativity got mixed up with the cute animation and art style
This movie was basically what everyone feared The Lego Movie was gonna be, thank goodness it was saved
When the making of the Lego Movie became publicy known, the Playmobil Movie was already in planning, so this was no rip of. It was obviousely just time for turninig toy brands into movies. Which one is better is of course a matter of opinion, and of course the Lego movie had a much bigger budget.
The LEGO Movie wasn’t completely CGI there was one scene shot in completely stop motion. I liked the vid tho!

The American trailer makes the movie seem like it revolves around rex dasher
Madison Aviles it’s like if the American trailer is shouting “YOU HAVE BEEN CHEATED AND LIED TOO!”
@@jackiegonzalez6814 yea, I saw the trailer in the theatres the other day and was left thinking the movie was mostly about rex dasher. after watching this video im honestly shocked at how little he was mentioned
Ness C. The only reason I’m watching this movie is because of Adam lambert playing the cute bad guy. Also, did you like my spongebob reference?
It really did, so many scenes of him in trailers
It should’ve stuck with his story
Here’s how it would go:
The main character spends 6 minutes in the live action sequence, where she transforms into an animated character after getting into an accident after trying to escape a government facility.
Its not ripoff of LEGO movie it’s inspired it’s not good but it’s not bad I give it 6/10
