Ingredients Needed:
Filling:
- 4 apples
- 1/2 cup (95g) packed light brown sugary
- 1/2 cup (106g) granulated white sugar
- 2 teaspoons (4g) ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon (1g) ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon (4g) fine sea salt
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1 tbsp (9g) corn starch dissolved in 2 tablespoons (21g) water
Pie Crust:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (375g), plus extra for rolling
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, very cold, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
- 1.5 teaspoons (10g) fine salt
- 2 teaspoons (10g) sugar
- 6 to 8 tablespoons (108g) ice water
Baked Version:
- Puff pastry or pie dough...
- apple filling
- egg wash
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1.5 teaspoons (5g) ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon (2g) garam masala
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Filling:
- 4 apples
- 3/4 cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (55g) granulated white sugar
- 2 teaspoons (5g) ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon (1g) ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon (2g) fine sea salt
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1 tbsp (7g) corn starch dissolved in 2 tablespoons water - Навчання та стиль

I used to LOVE the McDonald's fried apple pies!!! My parents got tired of my always asking to get a pie. One day, they bought me 12 of the pies and told me to eat them all. I have not eaten a McDonald's apple pie since then. That was over 30 years ago...

I’ve made these multiple times now and just made a big batch to take to Thanksgiving for family and they are one of the most amazing things I’ve ever created with my own hands. I will say, I am a broke college student so I use the frozen puff pastry from Walmart and don’t add any spices or anything that I don’t have and they are always amazing. Josh, I did get your book and have very much enjoyed reading though it and I am very exciting to cook everything in it and I highly recommend to anyone who doesn’t have it yet!

In Russia we don't only still have fried ones, but also we have the absolute best cherry filling. Apple with cinnamon is being sold exclusively around Christmas/New Year season. And also some items on the menu are being changed throughout the year, so we have more seasonal pies. My favourite one is raspberry with ricotta cheese. Shame you guys don't have those!

Little Debbie is apart of everyones childhood in one way or another and it would be interesting to see your take on one of those classic treats. Whether it's a Frosted Fudge, or one of their Holiday cakes (it is that time of year again) I'm sure that video would draw in a lot of viewers.

They are amazing for what they are, the pastry is crispy, yet it sticks into your teeth, the filling is jammy and tasty, it really hits the spot when you need a sweet snack, especially when you get them fresh.

I just got done making these! I got a bit worried, since I had never made puff pastry before, the apples weren't too even, and I accidentally made them a bit smaller, but...ho-ly crap. 0_0 They looked and tasted absolutely AMAZING. My dad tried the deep-fried version, and he said I really outdid myself! I made the baked ones for my friend for secret santa. Thank you, Josh. The experience of biting into those pies was LOVELY! You guys should definitely try out this recipe, especially with the homemade puff pastry! I promise that it's worth it!
It's weird that in Malaysia we still have the fried version of apple pie and we have seasonal pies which is always sold out like sweet corn, hershey chocolate pudding, durian, jackfruit, strawberry jam and custard pudding and the list goes on.
In Germany we still have the fried McDonald's apple pie also. Sometimes the strawberry jam custard and chocolate custard.
same thing in Poland too, people get excited for the seasonal pies and they sell out so fast if it's a good one haha

I live in the netherlands and we only have the fried Apple pies every once in a while at mcD. I used to try and go over to germany as often as possible and get them there (they never take them off their menu and sometimes even have new flavours like blueberry)🙈🙈
But its a bit crazy to have to drive to a whole other country, just for fried applepies 😅😂 so I learned to make them myself.. 🎉🎉 so much better and I van have them whenever 🥳
I love Germany McDonald's only for that. I also visit the Netherlands for only one special thing if you know what i mean ;)

These are by far the most scrumptious apple pies I have ever eaten. I couldn't get my hands on garam Masala, nor allspice, so I replaced them with ground ginger and black pepper respectively, but the result are still amazing. The 1:1 ratio of salt and sugar in the crust is simply brilliant, making a nice contrast with the sweet filling. Definitely making them again!

I used to work for a food processing company that, among other things, made a premix that was added to the McDonald’s pie crust. One of the ingredients in the blend was L-Cysteine hydrochloride, which was used as an antioxidant for the filling. Even if I wore a full-face respirator, after finishing a run of that mix, I would be out for two days with symptoms similar to a respiratory infection. Needless to say, I don’t enjoy those pies quite as much as I used to, so I’m excited to try your version - I have to imagine I’ll have a significantly better experience!

The old, deep fried, pie from the 80s and earlier is the only McDonald's apple pie. The travesty they serve today is but a sad reminder of better times.
I mean everything they serve is like that, it was all much better even just in the 90s compared to now, in fact that goes for most restaurants, corporations took over and made everything as cheap as possible so their greedy shareholders make as much as possible.

@@djihenearafa8414 I made some pastry dough and let it sit overnight. The project was okay. I went a little heavy on the filling and some of it leaked out of the pies, and a few were slightly under baked. They were tasty nonetheless. This particular version was baked. I’ve another batch of pastry dough in the fridge now, ready for the deep fried version. Hopefully I will be able to scale back the filling and get a good seal so they don’t leak like the baked ones did. I’m actually considering making yet another batch of pastry dough and attempting to make a second round of baked pies without the mess.
BTW…love the In & Out cup in your profile photo. In & Out is one of my favorite burger places when I’m in the US. Well, at least when I’m in CA, AZ or NV that is.

I used to deep fry the pies when I worked there. I’d also put caramel sauce and ice cream on it as well. I’d also chop them up and make an apple pie McFlurry! Us McDonald’s workers would do a lot we shouldn’t have with the food there to make it better. Cooking steaks on the grill was once done as a reward for my night crew! LOL
