How to make a McDonald's Apple Pie - Copycat McDonald's Apple Pie

  • Hi, this is my version of the classic McDonald’s fried apple pie. You can use pie crust or puff pastry for this recipe.
    Ingredients:
    1 apple
    1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
    1 Tbsp butter
    2 Tbsp brown sugar
    1/2 tsp cinnamon
    1/4 tsp allspice
    1/4 tsp nutmeg
    Lemon zest (optional)
    Vegetable oil
    Puff pastry or pie crust
    1 tsp cornstarch (optional)
    1 Tbs hot water (optional)
    Extra sugar (optional)
    Method:
Peal and chop the apples into squares. I then let the apples soak in a bowl of water with a Tbs of lemon juice to help keep the color. Drain apples then pour them into a fry pan and add the sugar, spices, and butter. I also added some lemon zest which is total optional. Cook until tender, for around 10 minutes, then let the apple filling cool. If you want the apples to have a gooey syrup, while cooking them, dissolve the cornstarch in a Tbs of hot water then mix the it into the apple mixture. Add a bit more sugar to the filling to form a thick syrup.
An apple pie is 11cm x 5cm so take that into consideration when cutting the shape out of the pastry to pie crust. Lay the pastry on parchment paper then cover one side with apples filling. Brush the edges with water before folding the top half over, then crimp the edges with a fork to firmly seal the filling inside.
    Freeze until needed.
Fry the frozen apple pie in oil (350°F) for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, flipping it halfway so both sides are golden brown..
    Enjoy!

I remember when McDonald's abandoned the deep-fried apple pies for the "improved" baked crap they have today. McDonald's claimed it was due to concerns by the public. I've always questioned how the same health-conscious "public" was concerned about deep-frying an apple pie, yet, completely overlooked deep-frying a potato. I have always maintained that McDonald's simply blamed the public when the true reason was to free up space in their deep fryers for more fries. I had one baked pie since McDonald's switched in the 90's and that was enough for me. It was crap then. And, from what I'm told by friends, it's crap now.

    • @bentobuster6995

I play it by eye, but around 160-180 if it’s too hot I reduce the temp

Yes 👍 the firmer it is the better it holds together. So fry it straight out of the freezer. Keep an eye on it and when golden brown it’s done. It’s hot inside so let it cool down a bit before eating.

OMGoodness!!!!! I heard McDonalds still made the original version apple pie but only in certain areas like Hawaii???? I'm in Philadelphia Pa. We haven't seen the real McDonalds apple pie in years & years. Not that the baked version is bad, it's just no competition for the original.
