Making Wendy's Spicy Chicken Nuggets | But Better

- Homemade chicken nuggets usually aren't very good. That's why people go to Wendy's to get the spicy nuggets, and as usual, we will be challenging that today.

Okay, but my absolute favorite part of this, is the fact that almost every dry ingredient and spice had a different type of container. Not like all the containers were small glass bowls. No, I love the chaos of the different color measuring cup, the variety of ramekins, glass bowls and there was even a glass cup too. Loved it, made my day haha
I work at Wendy's, and I thought this would be cool to do in my own time to make things seem less monotonous. Thanks for this. Around here people usually ignore the spicy nuggets instead lol
Same I work at Wendy's as well nobody ever gets our spicy nuggets we might have a few orders here or there but we usually don't keep more than 20 cooked at a time cause nobody gets them
I was thinking the same thing! I used to work at Wendy's and almost no one ordered the spicy nuggets.
Even I preferred regular. I would make a fresh batch at the end of my shift.
i work at wendys to nobody wants the spicy nuggets they sit alot and we have to dump and remake every 15 minutes
Its the opposite for me: Usually people order the spicy nuggets, especially at night. I wonder why
Josh saying "don't be scared victor" soundin pretty sus at 0:52
Yoo I thought the same thing 🤣 it was worse cause I didn't have any context 💀🤣
I thought he said the n word
I thought he said the n word too lmao
That sounded like the N word to me
I rewatched it like 18 times thinking “I know he didn’t just say that…”
I was literally just thinking the other day: “these spicy chicken nuggets are good. I wish I could make my own. I wonder if Josh will do a video on them.”
The irony

Hey, any content that involves food is great by me. But this is on another level. It’s just amazing to see people do what official companies do, but BETTER. Keep on doing this, I love it!
Joshua: " I just realized this is a lot of spices"
South Asians: *pathetic*
true, I’m Asian and the amount of spices used in dishes is honestly absurd...
True, I once made a recipe almost with all my spicices
heheheheheh hoohohohoho hahahahasha
As an Asian, I'm too embarrassed to say that I had the same thinking as papa because complete range of spices is only available through online shops(I tried going to supermarkets but some spices are still missing so I only got to use what I could buy there)
Me an asian: Pfft i bet they think KFC has a lot of spices too. Puhlease

@@mordi9286 hi reki
I am still personally offended that Wendy’s had the audacity to discontinue spicy nuggets for like a year or two.
How are you personally offended by that?
I too am offended
I love how Josh won’t go anywhere near Sonic’s mozzarella sticks. They are legitimately the best mozzarella sticks out of any place I’ve eaten. (And I’ve had really fancy, expensive ones). I think Josh knows it’s too big of a challenge to successfully complete.
Honestly, the only reasons people are thinking Josh’s food is actually better than all these restaurants is because he puts that in the title, and has his friends try it and make him look good lol. I’m not saying he doesn’t make good food, but half the time, the OG source is better than Josh’s food.
@@KejuanBW nah I disagree I feel like your reasoning is wrong. And I don’t think he has other people to try his food. If you think if he lost then try making it yourself and you be the judge if you think his friends aren’t a good source
@@MrJay-sk1jo My reasoning is pretty factual lmao, I’m not hating, just keeping it real.
And I never said he did have other people try his food? I said the only people he act does have try his food are his friends, the ones in the video. Either the one guy, or his other two friends or so. And they make him look good by purposely saying his food is better than the restaurant food.
@@MrJay-sk1jo And you’re kinda sounding like a fanboy if I’m being honest. I’m not saying his food ain’t good, just that it isn’t always better than the restaurant food. Which tbh, the restaurant food is most of the time better lol. I’ve made foods Josh has tried and compared it to the OG sources myself, and it taste very good, just not always as good as the restaurant.
Think what you want, but restaurants, he doesn’t have many customers or people to vouch for his food. He only has his actual friends in the video to speak on it. And he could just be paying them, or they could be lying to make him look good. It happens alot these days.
@@KejuanBW I do think his food is better as I have tried some of it. However that is mostly because there's more effort going into it as you don't have to wait long for fast food and get food that isn't always as fresh as when you make it yourself while being optimized for coming out of the "kitchen" quick. Also, when you make food yourself, you can modify it to your personal preferences.
0:52 don’t be scared… what? 😳
So I'm not the only one who noticed!

Do a series where you cook foods from around the world- you can make polls to determine the country, and then pick 4 popular foods from that country and make another poll for people to choose between those 4 foods.
This man deserves more likes for the ideea 😶

I suggested something similar on his discord, but like a whole meal thing from every country - like starters, main course, dessert and a beverage. I think it’d do great

Adam Regusea tends to make stuff the easy way and doesn't rely on special equipment. Helen Rennie is also a great teacher for beginners
same
Yes plz lol
We have a couple of those videos on the channel!
You can’t follow instructions? People truly retarded
Anyone want to see a video of Josh going through tests to see how well his sense of taste is?
I know there are major differences between the stuff he makes compared to the thing he’s trying to out do but it’d be nice to see Josh try to tell the differences between common things.
Like can he tell which pizza sauce of the two is missing oregano? Can he tell the difference between coke and pepsi? What about filtered and unfiltered honey? How good is he at telling different brands of whiskey? I WANNA KNOW
Dang that is so smart
This would be interesting since he seems to add so many unnecessary ingredients to his recipes
@@TheHilltopperNation I lowkey think this idea would undermine his reputation of high quality dishes.
You’re absolutely right, I doubt there are many people out there who could detect the tablespoon of duck fat he added. If he made a batch with and without the fat he’d probably have to spend quite a bit of time chewing to guess correctly.
He has a refined palate. If he didn't, he wouldn't be able to pick out the specific spices, herbs, and secret ingredients the way he does. To answer your original question though, his sense of taste is on point much more than the average person's.
@@MorticiaAddams23 that’s what I’m hoping for, I want to be as confident in his tastebuds as he is, it would make the videos much more enjoyable. I know he doesn’t have a Michelin Star but to pass a test like that would be nice to see

Weirdly enough Wendy's is more nostalgic to me than McDonald's. It might be the smell but it always takes me back to being 6 and getting the land before time toys in the kids meals
Everyone has a different nostalgia fast food. Burger King was closer to the house than McDonalds so that was my spot. The Whopper is still my favorite fast food garbage burger. RIP Chicken Tenders, the superior but forgotten nugget of record.
Wendys Spicy Chicken burger for me is more nostalgic, only because McDonald's in their infinite wisdom never really had a spicy selection. Their spicy nuggets are a limited time offer, and they never had a spicy chicken sandwich.
The land before time will always be iconic. Little foot carrying the cute leaf his momma gave him will always bring a smile on my face
Me too. Didn’t have McDonald’s much as a kid. My grandmother took us to Wendy’s especially after swimming and swimming lessons.
I would get the exact feeling but with A&W.
“Bon Appetit! YOU’RE GONNA STARVE.” I spit out my coffee 😂
As a professional part time wendys employee in louisiana (land of spice) i would say we sell 8x as many regulars as spicey
Everytime Josh throw away the food, I always think about the person who's gonna clean up the mess.
0:52 did he- nah... he didn´t right?
Please make a series called but easier, where you make food out of simple ingredients like ramen and make them healthier and overall better without too much effort

I wonder if Josh is skilled enough to be able to make a clone of the creamy jalepeno sauce from Taco Bell. Probably not, he said hoping to bait Josh into doing it.
if he could i would make it with everything
@@SocialCrit I've gotten taco bell to sell me bags of the stuff before, I've searched high and low for a clone recipe and have tried at least a dozen and none of them do the trick.
That and the Chipotle sauce!!!!
@@Goingwithafakehandlehere You can buy their Chipotle sauce, and Baja sauce in the store. I don’t think they sell the Jalapeño, because then why would you want to go?
I go whenever they have party size nachos.
@@kitty62862 I've seen the other sauces and have lamented that they don't have CJS.
I used to work at the manufacturing plant that makes nearly all the Wendy’s bags. McDonald’s, Burger King, Chic Fil A, pretty much any fast food company you can think of, I’ve made their bags before. Wendy’s was my favorite to make, McDonald’s small breakfast bags were hands down the worst.
Your version looks interesting and more crunchy, I will definitely give your version a try.
I would LOVE to see Josh do a low carb/paleo/Keto series of fast food. There are so many culinary challenges and so many of us that are avoiding these ingredients under medical circumstances - anyone else?
On top of that - pork-rind breading beats panko 100%
I do enjoy spicy chicken things. I prefer the flour type breading to panko, Panko is great for things like Katsu or whatnot, but nuggs specifically I prefer flour.
Agreed. It's that classic nugget texture. I also wish he would try to nail the size, shape, and color more accurately to really beat them at their game.
Well technically this serie's title is "but better", and so if the panko breading is a better choice than wendy's regular breading for this type of nuggets, then it's a full win for *papa* on my book.
I was going to get mad at "serie's" but I've decided it's clever!
@@fraidknot series'
My husband and I make panko-covered fried chicken about once a month or so, and it's DIVINE. Granted, we don't grind our chicken to make it (saves time), but fast food nuggets just don't compare to that crispy panko breading with some chili sauce.
Catching this vid late but I gotta say it reminded me of Boston Pizza's Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. It's been taken off the menu so it doesn't really qualify for a 'But Better', but it's something I have fond memories of. Google Searching the old menus for it came up with this description: "Breaded chicken breast filet tossed in hot sauce served on a toasted French-style bun with lettuce, tomato and our creamy garlic Parmesan sauce." Simple, but very satisfying.
"I mean there's a holiday for everything now, for some reason, when did this become a thing?"

Just ordered your book, love the videos. Be great having an at hand list of ingredients and step by step. Thanks josh
Love love love the fast food bag slap on the counter
Josh adds so many ingredients sometimes that I’m not sure some of them would even make a difference. These recipes could use some testing to see what is and isn’t necessary
Josh, would you please make Carvel's Ice Cream cake for But Better? I know it would probably be easy for you, but it would be cool to see. Bonus points if you make Fudgey the Whale!
We have to appreciate how long it takes them to make vs how long we take ‘em to make and we say we make better food which is true but in a longer amount of time while they have a company that can’t cook for too long because of the customers a day
I was just watching guga's kfc video and I noticed that how nice he is and how he compliments the staff and everything and then there is this guy....who just roasts the hell out of the brand. 🤣
I'm waiting for a But Healthier series. Like not necessarily 100% healthy versions of fast food; but HEALTHIER. I also want him to make a college series. When I was in college, I had maybe $50 to my name, a mini-fridge, and a microwave. That was it. That's a real challenge to make a full meal lol 😂
I would love to see a video of your favourite go to quick home meals/snacks for when you can’t be bothered cooking 🧑🍳
Loving the new comical twist!

Former manager of Wendy's; gonna say that the spicy nugs were our. Our POPULAR item in Chicago. People lost their shit when they heard we were cutting them.
They're fine, okay ish. Josh did hit it on the head here as there is a ridiculous amount of MSG. The microsecret is that they actually add thyme to the recipe. The only reason people flip their shit over them.

The time for Joshua to improve upon Sonic is long overdue: I say this as an Oklahoman and Sonic being an Oklahoma corporation. And there's stuff at Sonic that definitely needs improvement. I feel like for these to be genuinely fair Josh needs to make them identical in size, shape, and texture. At this point it’s just home cooked vs fast food which will win 10/10.
Well, if they were that identical, they wouldn't be better, they'd be the same, the point of the series is to show how much better cooking made at home is

One thing I will say is that at least companies are willing to actually make things spicy recently. The Wendy's ghost pepper sauce the McD's mighty hot sauce actually had some kick to it.
