    I never understood the concept of marriage. People who want to get married as fast as possible. I am from Tunisia and my parents expect me to get married soon (after university) (I'm a 17 years old boy). What about no ? I don't want to get married nor do I plan to be married when I will be 18, 21 or 25. However, even if my family knows that I won't get married soon, they still use phrases like : Your wife will be so happy one day ! Do you have a girlfriend ? Or my favorite : You need to be married in order to be successful, but you are still too young to understand that.
    It shouldn't be an obligatory step in your life to accomplish, I see it as an optional step, where marriage is something that will make you happy. Marry someone that you will love, you don't owe anything to anybody. But you will get married when you will want to with the person you love and you will know when it will be the right time.

    I'm a digital marketer in China. Just so you know, this skii video really made a noise on Chinese social media. Many women thought it tells their stories and got touched. But more women felt angry and questioned why they have to get marry to be happy, they also felt upset because this "left women" concept were used by a skincare giant for selling their products.

    • @Sechari

      It seems like SKII is trying to market by saying if these leftover women used their overpriced products, they're going to be prettier and be able to get married. They'll have bright, pale, smooth, beautiful, glowing, youthful skin with their $200+ skincare products.

      'why they have to get marry to be happy' That's not the point. The point is that most women have unrealistic views and in stead of dating a kind and decent but not so popular and rich guy, they all go for the same guys and are surprised it won't work out for all of them.

    Funny thing that if i look down into the comments, most hate comments are from people who are incapable of believing woman can live a happy life without a husband... or maybe "die alone" is too much a big thing to them. To me, I'd rather choose to die alone after enjoying a happy life, than spending 40 years sharing roof (and bed) with someone I don't like...

So when deciding whether go to HK University of Science and Technology,or go to a less famous University in NA for my master program, I chose NA because I could then get rid of them~ Now they know I enjoy living alone. And I won't marry anyone until I find someone that I love and loves me. Now every time when we chatting on video, they would just say: dont worry (actually, I'm not worried at all), he is somewhere waiting for you. Just dont miss him when you find someone that you love. Okay, that makes me feel better~~

    I'm Asian and my mom was forced to marry my dad. My grandfather literally threatened to not attend her wedding if it was with another man so she decided to make her dad happy and marry my dad. However, I have an older sister who would supposedly be called a "leftover woman". She's got a great job, she's beautiful and she's not married or dating anybody. But our parents, who weren't married because of love on their own or anything, aren't pressuring her into marriage because they understand the concept of "finding the one yourself". Same with me, one day they'll let me find love by myself and so on. I just want to say I hope more Asian parents come to terms that if you force your child to marry just for society, like you don't get any joy out of it at all.

      jtan2010 wow we really got an optimist here... YOU can do that if you want but to me, dying alone is just as bad as dying after having to be with somebody you don't love for the rest of your life. also, I know I'm not the prettiest girl in the world, don't just assume I'm some self-centered person, you don't even know who I am. Also I want somebody who'll like/love me for my personality too not for my looks. I'm not dreaming of true love, I'm just expressing the fact that I have the chance to find love by myself, unlike a lot of girls who are forced.

      jtan2010 Not trying to be mean, but it sounds like your bitter because you didn't find your true love. she should never settle for a guy who has the smallest interest in her, no one should do that. It's pathetic. You get one life, who wants to spend it with some one they don't really love. If you tried and fail. Try again :)

      jtan2010 Trust me bro I'm not a lesbian and I understand marriage, family and culture very well. I just don't want the poor girl waking up each day to a man she can't stand. Would you want that? And I stand by what I said, she shouldn't settle. She deserves the best. And so do you. Beside who are you to give her such terrible advice " Catch the first guy that has even the smallest interest in you. Don't fool yourself. Your not that good looking". Who would say that to another person with a clear conscious. If she wants to risk her heart to find love that's a hard and good decision to make. Live with no regrets and go for the Gold......NOT the Bronze .

      +Tim Stanford meh. this is typical marketing scheme, ie using a non-issue shot in a way to stir up emotion, do you ever hear the plight of Chinese men in China, who cant marry because he has no million dollar apartments? or a decent car? or a high paying job?? of course not, not in a world ruled by manginas sjw and feminazi.

    • @warmccl
      @warmccl 8 років тому +9

      +obsidianstatue you cannot speak on an issue you do not understand just because you hate the fact that it's empowering women. I'm a Chinese man from Sichuan Province and the men do not have a hard time getting married if they are not rich as you say. A decent job that at least pays the bills and puts food on the table is all that suffices, especially if the man wants the woman to stay home he should have a good job. Am I a sjw mangina for being empathetic to unfair treatment to the opposite sex?

    • @obsidianstatue
      @obsidianstatue 8 років тому +2

      warmccl LOL WTF, the prerequisite for Chinese men to get married is AT LEAST owning an apartment, and a 2 bed room apartment in Beijing or Shanghai or Guang zhou WILL COST you millions. even cities like Chengdu is very expensive. so stop the bullshitting.
      these women cant get married because their standard is too high. are you seriiously telling me that these middle class women with a Shanghai or Beijing Hukou cant find at least a decent guy from the country side? LOL NO they want to marry executives or high salary earning white collar city dwellers. LOL and those parents has the audacity to cry, can calling an unmarried daughter a "heart disease" do you know how much they would flip out if their daughter brought home a migrant worker? LOL THIS IS AN ad, SK II, a south korean make up company knows jack shit about the social dynamics of China. and neither do you.

      +obsidianstatue I didn't write that they need an apartment because that's a given. Again everything you wrote tells us that you have no idea what it's actually like and that you have a personal vendetta to fill today.

      +warmccl LOL WHAT?? it is a given that men must have an apartment to get married? and in China where apartments will cost your family millions? LOL what a typical mangina, crying about "oppression" suffered by the female, by oppressing male. LOL
      Im glad that China is the last bastion for humanity's war against sjw and feminazis. China has more self-made female billionaires than the rest of the world combined. what does this tell you? China is a place that values talent, grit and savviness. in China you can't get in front of the line just because you have a vagina. or you skin colour is somehow different from the rest.

    This video made me so sad. Those poor women. I'm over 25 but still in my twenties. I know how these women feel in a way, I'm not Chinese but respecting your parents/elders is a common trait in many cultures. I'm not picky, just waiting to find real love. Getting married for the sake of making others happy is not worth it. Who cares how many 'things' the man has? A house, car, well paying job, etc. Money can't buy love. Glad the parents of these women saw past the societal pressure and see their daughter's point of view.

    I married a "leftover woman." She's beautiful, both on the outside and the inside, has a great personality, and has a PhD in mathematics. She's Vietnamese, but the cultural issue is more or less the same as China. I think Vietnamese men are/were mostly intimidated by her achievements and education, and so that made things hard for her. I have a similar level of education, so I view that as a positive--I like having a spouse who is my intellectual equal. In my country, men would literally have been tripping over each other to date my wife. I consider myself the lucky winner, but for the life of me I cannot understand how such an extraordinary woman could have troubles like that.

    • @Lulumagoo402
      @Lulumagoo402 8 років тому +3

      +Sam Robert of course. Shaming anyone bc they don't/ can't live up to others expectations is ridiculous. This video just happens to speak about Chinese women. But I know this problem goes on all over the world and effects both sexes. And it's definitely time for that to change.

    • @SamRobertduty
      @SamRobertduty 8 років тому

      +Lulu Magoo Shaming as its benefits. It could have evolved in humans (and other animals) in order to deter harmful for the group. For example, ancient humans since prehistory may have shamed those who strayed to have more cooperation. The same thing works in modern society. People choose not to partake in traditions are shamed, people date multiple people are shamed and those who remain single and don't start a family are shamed by society at large and their family. There are benefits and downsides to that. The downside is that shaming a scientist who could help cure cancer will have a tougher time on their hand (but that's unlikely that any of the women in the video are going to heavily contribute to society that way). The benefit is more people adhere to the notion of a family unit that is very good for any society (less single mothers happen as well, which is good).
      From an evolutionary perspective, this makes a lot of sense. People reproduce to pass on their genes to the next generation. If the next generation doesn't reproduce, the parents have technically died from an evolutionary perspective. Shaming your children for not marrying ties into that.

    This isn't something happening in China only, unfortunately. Hispanics have a term for this women too, "quedadas". It's true, times have changed but still it's something that people criticize a lot. Women shouldn't be told when to get married and we should not care about what others say, but still, it's hurtful to have your own family and friends, talking behind your back about how you don't get married or not have kids yet...

      +di wang there is a lot of truth to this, but I see it a bit differently. A lot of women in the US do not marry because they want careers and really, that's been a great thing to bring equality as well as family power. A lot of men in the US only want women that bring in money, too, because many women now expect to be pampered because of the wealth (they are a drain on society) or because many jobs don't pay enough anymore to cover cost of living. Wealthy nations suffer very high cost of living. So, If women have their wealth, they are more attractive to men, too. Of course there are men that like their women like slaves, but that doesn't make for a very attractive woman in America, no matter how good looking because long-term, they don't bring much to the family wealth and power. I would never marry a woman that cannot work, also, and I make a lot of money and don't even need her money, but I want it because my goal is to have a very comfortable life and build a strong future for all of my children and grand-children, own land, develop businesses, etc.I don't need a trophy/slave wife. I want an equal to create a powerful team to compete with the world. I've married my best friend and we do our best to co-parent AND bring home money.So to me, the biggest problem isn't east vs. west, and it isn't which countries have more money, it's about greed and cost of living vs. financial freedom and strength. I'm greedy and the cost of living is high. I need a working wife that contributes to financial power for our family.countries that encourage the strength and financial power of a working woman WILL conquer all because you have 2X the power per person per capita.its' simple math.

      +foreverfriendsg I started a new job 2 years ago when I was 33 and when asked if I was married and had children I said no. I was then asked if I was a lesbian. I'm not. Plus lesbians don't give up their wombs and ability to have children just because they love women over men.
      I am in the UK and people here STILL think that there is something "wrong" with women who choose not to get married and have children. Personally I think there is something wrong with people who want so little in their basic predetermined lives that they are happy to live the same life as everyone else.
      I want more. And I am going to get more. I want to see the world, I want to learn as much as I can about the world around me and I want to be surprised by something new every day. If I can find someone who shares this ethos with me, great. If I don't, that's fine too.
      I find it hilarious that my co-workers who have never left the city they live in, bar their holidays to Majorca, or picked up a book since school are supposed to impart their "wisdom" on the babies they keep churning out.

    As a Chinese American woman I can relate to what these women are going through. However, thankfully, for the American aspect of my upbringing I don't feel anywhere nearly as much guilt or sense of duty to get married as the women interviewed in this film clip. The Chinese national obsession with marrying off young people borderlines insanity. You can imagine all the twenty-something gays and lesbians walking around feeling the crush of social opression to get married as soon as possible to please their parents. This obsession to marry children off is foreign to me--I have never understood the purpose of doing this in Chinese culture.

    As someone who doesn't mind not getting married, who doesn't want children, and who is Chinese/Vietnamese, this is honestly one of my fears, that when I reach a certain age everyone in my family will talk and question why I haven't found someone yet or why I don't have children yet. Even if they don't say anything bad to me directly, I know they'll whisper it behind my back. I really like the message of this video and what SK-II is trying to do.

    These ladies are my role models. I’ve been single for 10 years after college and I’m happy. Yes I have that desire to be married and have children. I personally don’t feel the need to search for someone to have all that. I want to meet the best friend who will become my husband. Have children if not biologically then I’ll adopt. I understand arranged marriages I’m the second generation in my family that didn’t get forced into one but the option is still on the table if I want it. The first four years of my single life was hard and I almost took the offer. Being 32 on March 19th I will not take my singleness for granted. I’m free to come and go when I want, if I want and not have to worry about the other person. It was until the past two years that I accepted myself without having to wear makeup as well. I know I am beautiful with or without because what’s important is what’s within.
    YES!!! It gets lonely but I will not go find someone just for one moment of happiness. To all you ladies out there if you want to wait for THE RIGHT PERSON, you wait and take your time. On the flip side if you are out there in the look out for someone. I will pray you through it. No matter what, each woman has the right to love and make their own decisions. 💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️

      Noelia Aguiar your chance of marrying when you are older diminish greatly because the guys you are attracted to and desire (high social status, successful etc) are not attracted to you. They want the younger prettier ladies to marry and they do because these women are also attracted to these guys (high social status, successful etc). Simply put, Things get worse for women the more they age, things get better for men the more they age.

      Not condoning it, but it's a cultural thing. Parents say this type of thing about their kids pretty frequently, regardless of age. It's not usually mean-spirited, it's just way more candid than western culture is used to.

    This is so heartbreaking. No one should ever feel this way. Some people talk about tradition as if it was an untouchable topic, some kind of good social behaviour that is supposed to be followed without questioning. But if following a tradition means making other people's lives miserable for the sake of nothing, how can it be good? This kind of belief is so toxic that it even blinds parents for what their doing to their children. Tradition should have no power over respect, kindness and the willingness to build a society in which every single person can choose to live the way they want without being judged by it. If a tradition goes against this, then it should have no place amongst people's lives.

    While in China on business I met a traditional China girl who fits your Sheng Nu category - divorced, over 30, with a son. We were married some while ago ( we both had previous unhappy marriages )
    Important to her were a successful marriage and a home that reflects harmony.
    She brought with her the results of a 5000 year culture, a subtlety derived from a language with 3000 basic symbols rather than 26, a sense of grace in floral arrangements, an enthusiasm for growing fresh vegetables in the garden, and amazing cooking skills (skills which we share ). She manages the interruptions to harmony that are inevitable in any relationship with view to repair, not victory - tho she's no pushover - one of her ancestors was Genghis Khan.
    I am both grateful and appreciative of the gifts she has brought to our relationship.
    So to the Sheng Nu girls out there, good outcomes are possible.
    Possibly in proportion to giving up seeking them and allowing them to find you :-)
    (I think Lao Tze gave advice along these lines )

      +Kim Jong Un yes, parents do help in the matchmaking but it's just as same as The Marriage Market in China. Most of us don't want to be married because it's same as selling the daughters by looking at a man's bank balance and his house/car. Resultantly, the divorce rate is increasing day by day. So I can totally relate to it, a woman should only get married if she LIKES/LOVES man of her choice(if at all she wants to be married)
      secondly, you have got your reply for age limit in the above comment.
