  • We asked 67 people from all over the world to take a DNA test. It turns out they have much more in common with other nationalities than they thought ...
It’s easy to think there are more things dividing us than uniting us. But we actually have much more in common with other nationalities than you’d think.
At momondo we believe that everybody should be able to travel the world, to meet other people, and experience other cultures and religions. Travel opens our minds: when we experience something different, we begin to see things differently. Share this video, and help us spread the word - and open our world.

I'm a biologist, and when you learn about life to the very smallest spectrum, you realize how equal we all are. Especially with our DNA. There is so little that separates us. But what really does separate us the most, is our cultural differences.

"The participants in the video, which has more than 5 million views, are actors and extras Momondo found through casting agencies...But each one actually had their DNA tested and their reactions to their results were "spontaneous," the company said."
I, too, found myself moved and touched by their reactions. There is so much distrust and hate and fear in this world. The power of discovering how related we all are can be transformative - if we let it in. Akin to the first picture of our earth from space, the "blue marble" bringing home that we are all in this together. Love transforms and unites. Fear distances and polarizes. Which do we choose to be a part of?

This is so incredible I've always wanted to do something like this and know where I really truly come from. And it is touching how emotional this is even I teared up. Imagine how much hate could evaporate if everyone knew and instead of being asked where they were from or ethnicity o race and saying one or two things and it being done with, you pulled out a paper and listed a ton of places. It would just be one more thing in common with someone else. And not to mention that they get to travel, which is the sole dream of many. Very lucky people.

It is fake because of the acting, the way they react to the results.
these are not real racists who think they are racially "pure"... these are clearly actors playing a part.

TLDR: their biased not racist, but this videos still probably fake
to be fair they never said they were flat out racists, they said they were biased. All individuals can be biased about plenty of things, the people shown in the video were biased (not racist) against certain races for whatever reason.
Maybe they don't like another countries sports team or got injured by a specific group of individuals? Who knows?
As for this being video being faked, probably. As already stated plenty of times this is a TRAVEL company. Its so much cheaper to pay actors then to fly a bunch of individuals across the world, preform DNA tests and then give them free trips in their origin countries.

According to their website, they hired extras for some of the people behind the group, and 10 of the 67 participants have some kind of acting experience (though this included being minor extras). They further admit to some retakes, but claim the initial reaction from opening the envelope is not staged, and to make sure they captured it properly they used 4 cameras. The spitting in tube bit is staged in the sense that that was not the test they used.

Very STAGED, especially the reactions. Bad actors and as a whole the video has a very unnatural feel to it. It's just cringeworthy bulls***
The goal here is to push biased misinformation down people's throats. Basically, they're trying to negate people's origins and distinct ethnicities by saying "look, no need to learn about population genetics, just accept that you're mixed (and no need for frontiers)". They blatantly ignored the dna testing company's explanations on how to understand the results and what native populations normally score (usually a mixture of several components).

My question here is: why do we need a scientific evidence to start believing in that we are all cousins?!
Not only we're all cousins, but also truly we're all equal. I believe regardless of being black or white, Asian or European, pop star or farmer, poor or rich, the only sane way that we can measure and judge people is based on humanity.

    • @MithranArkanere
      @MithranArkanere 8 років тому +15

We are not equal. We have given each other the right for equal rights and opportunities. People use the expression as if it meant the same, but It's not the same.
The difference between being equal and having the same rights is that if we were all equal, there would not be the differences required to have exchange of ideas and the inspiration that creates progress and advancement.
It would all be stagnant. All the same. Never changing. Stuck in time. Living dead.

As someone who works in advertising and has done several of these 'interview' videos, I'm pretty sure some of these interviewees are real people and some are actors because that's usually what we do. It's almost always 50/50 like that. We'll usually use the reactions of real people because theirs is more genuine, and then use the actors' lines as padding (the British skinhead guy is definitely an actor).

Even if you forget about the linguistic or cultural difference, you still can not ignore that people have different views, character and goals in life. Not to mention such things as civil wars or a banal political confrontation. People are really the one, but at the same time it's foolish to think that people are a monotonous mass that can be attracted to a common denominator.

I think your explanation is really great. It should be made clear to everyone that in the end we are all related to each other and the one-sided view is simply not true. The fact that cousins were actually found also proves it.

My ancestors came from both Germany and Finland. That's what we know so far. Probably more places tho! That's kind of cool to think about. No one has ONE certain background - we come from all around the world. People move around all the time, meet people from other places and have children. And it goes on and on... :)

If you were to read about DNA, you'd know that the vast majority of us have multiple origins. So everything in this video is perfectly plausible. Whatever your political leanings, the point of the video remains.

have you not learned anything from history?!?! Eastern Africa was a powerful, strong, perfectly fine, thriving place until Europeans came along and said "I'm better than you, you African people shouldn't be this civilized." and they ruined everything. Nazi, civil wars, war lords, genocide. All of this because people thought they were "better" what the French lady said was true...if we better understood where we come from, we may not have these stereotypes/hatred between everyone. Not saying it's "magical" and that everyone would feel like that, but at least it's a start! Political standing doesn't matter, how we came about as a species doesn't matter, what matters is that we are all humans, we should treat each other as such.

Unfortunately, our world is corrupt and broken. People want money and power not peace and unity. I would wish everyone would start uniting but unfortunately they won't. Personally I judge people as an individual not as a group. I really try to avoid being racist. As we are one people.
