Is F1 returning to Vietnam?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 жов 2024
- Formula 1 never raced in Vietnam and for some time, the Hanoi Street Circuit sat in limbo and an almost abandoned state. But recently, rumours about Vietnam returning to the F1 calendar have appeared after reports of discussions between F1 and Vietnamese Grand Prix organisers taking place just a few weeks ago. Could we see Formula 1 finally race in F1? Or is it too late? Enjoy!

A fun thing for me was that it was put into the F1 game in 2020, yet since the actual race didn't go ahead, it felt like you were (virtually) driving on something that felt exclusive.
Same, it felt almost magical that the actual drivers have not raced there in reality while many people who played the F1 2020 game has.
I really enjoyed the track on F1 2020
@@MinhLe-kt5zg It's actually a really fun track to race, very packed actions and intense on that long straight.
@@apophisstr6719 it really is actually. I really loved driving it
I just want Germany 🇩🇪 back !
Agree. Nürburgring or Hockenheimring. Both are great Tracks with great racing. Without the rain aswell.
@@Oranje_24 I’d love to see the legendary Nurburgring back…but I’d take Hockenheim too!
It just doesn’t seem right to not have Germany there. That’s like having a baguette contest without France.
@@mamavswild True. And because you say France, France should also have a Grand Prix. My favourite is Nevers Magny-Cours
@@Oranje_24 France already has a Grand Prix
@@brissylion7066 had.
As a Vietnamese F1 fan, i’m so happy cuz it’s so expensive for a normal Vietnamese like me to go watch an F1 race in Singapore, and now it’s happen in my home city, just a 30 min scooter ride from my house to the circuit 😊 i really hope this race will happen and if it does then welcome to our city Hanoi next year 🥰
Hopefully Vietnam finally gets to host F1 for fans like you! 🇻🇳
I'm living in Saigon at the moment, so many Vietnamese people I have spoken to honestly aren't familiar with it and only very few seem to have heard of it.Correct me if I'm wrong but I just doesn't seem popular enough here
@@MadeByPerspective it’s such a shame that i can’t watch Viettel/Danny/Kimi in my country anymore 😢 i was really excited to see them in Hanoi but now all of them left the grid 😢 but at least i got a chance to watch Alonso/Charles and my fav driver Max in Hanoi next year
@@LongTran-bf3ty Vettel*
@@Oranje_24 there is a phone carrier in Vietnam named Viettel and i’m always mistyping it with Seb 😂😂😂
I think they should do a thing like travel new country/circuits every year.
Like have 2 races unique every year. Like Spain, Portugal this year then next year in their place asian two countries. This will also diversify fanbase and get new fans every year.
I worry that if we add news tracks that
a) the season will be too long
b) tracks that I love like Spa and Imola (could be other tracks that you love) won't be on the calendar for various reasons. (Although if they alternate with other races, that's a compromise I'd settle with)
Spa is on life support already.
@@soundscape26 that's my worry. Great racing, though iirc it's got something to do with the fan experience not being up to snuff.
It would be a shame to see it go
Spa is on the calendar this year because South Africa isn't.
Vietnam isn't a "new" track on the calendar though
I don't know why they race in Imola with these cars. The track is too narrow and has limited overtaking opportunities.
I'm happy to see new tracks getting added to f1, but I think there will have to be a rotating calendar with different tracks each year otherwise there's going to be a race every week
@R2 - DOOM2 For some it would but you have to count the fact in that the drivers and members of teams also have family that they want to be able to visit and for some fans at some point there really can be too many races
@R2 - DOOM2 No, it completely dilutes how special an F1 event should be and it puts a strain on everyone involved. Plus, I have a life, I cannot dedicate 30 weekends to F1 even more with the new sprint race format involving 2 qualifying sessions. It's all too much.
@@user-nu7wz3hw5mthe more races you add 1. Each race event is less special 2. The chances of a championship battle going to the final race becomes lower and lower
as a Vietnamese fan i really hoping this coming true at least one because we are too down because the covid 19 has destroyed everything in 2020, but really don't want FIA replace any track in calendar like iconic Spa, hopefully they will have solutions for us
I would like to see it on the calendar, I think it's a pretty cool track
As a Turkish fan its so sad that we don't have a gp here. The circuit is great, its tricky and the drivers love it. But hey 3 gp's at USA...
Istanbul Park would definitely be part of my dream F1 calendar.
@@soundscape26 Glad you agree:)
@@Nolitaflat And you're brinning in some pretty awful tracks to the calendar as well.
@@Nolitaflat 3 GP'S in one country is to much. One country should have 2 GP's max. F1 should rotate the U.S tracks like they did with Germany, especially as Las Vegas doesn't look that interesting.
@@Nolitaflat When did I say eliminating classic tracks would be ok?
Nice video mate! I was excited for vietnam b4 it was cancelled :(
Thanks for watching mate! I was definitely interested too!
As a Vietnamese living abroad, it would be so cool to have F1 cars driving around my hometown. If the race gets scheduled for next year then I have to go see it!
Vietnam is one of my favorite places in the world! I'd totally make the trip to hanoi if there was an f1 race.
I still want what Aidan Millward thought up for a F1 season. There's tracks that are guaranteed a race every year (Silverstone, Spa, Suzuka, COTA, Canada, Sau Paulo). After those 7, any track that wants a race gets pooled into a rotating pool of tracks where you might get a race that year, you might not.
I like that idea too, but it's impossible when some of the least favourite circuits tie themselves to 10-year contracts... you'd end up rotating Spa with Silverstone for instance. That's a case where idealism clashes with money.
@@soundscape26 I get that. This idea gets rid of the 10 year contracts. The tracks that have guaranteed spots will be there every year, then the tracks in a rotating pool have a spot in line. So 7 guaranteed, 15 open spots, first 15 in line get to be used that season, then they go to the back of the cue and the next 15 take their spot for next season.
This.
I would like a Grand Prix to happen in Denmark. 🇩🇰
Vietnamese Grand Prix:
Debut: 2020 (Cancelled), 2026 (Returned)
Laps: 55
Turns: 22
Years Active: 2026-Present
Scheduled: April 10-12
2 weeks later after the video, Vietnam Grand Prix LLC., a subsidiary owned by Vingroup which purpose is to invest into building and organizing F1 in Vietnam had gone through dissolution. Having F1 in Vietnam in the near future is almost impossible.
Funfact: Some of the ambulances in Vietnam still have the "Formula 1 Vinfast Vietnam Grand Prix 2020 Hanoi" text/logo on them
The fact this could after your video was uploaded is mind-blowing
As a Vietnamese and a motorsport fan, it warms my heart already just thinking about having an F1 GP in my home country, hope it will happen someday!
Ive lived here for 7 years and I still wait to hear a vietnamese person know what F1 even is. I really dont see how theres great interest here because besides a few foreigners, locals have no clue what the sport it. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised it was coming before covid because it def isnt a place where people discuss or follow motorsports like elsewhere.
It depend on people , just like. It all people in your country know what football or F1 are 😅 but i will say this motor race are more popular sport then F1 in Vietnam.
Is this gonna age like milk for the second time???
I hope not, the Vietnam gp is really fun on F1 2020
@@mexicanopdb Its basically jeddah 2.0
More like jedda 0.5@lukealvarez3744
For some reason this race was always crazy in the F1 2020 game, I hope it's similar in real life if the Vietnamese GP is ever held.
Surreal to see my working space in some of the aerial shots over the Hanoi Street Circuit 😂 I hope F1 will come to Hanoi sooner than later, there is a thriving fan base here in Vietnam
What I find more interesting iss the fact Ireland is only country to have a team and Drivers compete F1 but there was never a race in Ireland its self
I think F1 should have a race in the Vietnamese GP. At least be in consideration. It got screwed over due to events outside their control. Should have been considered for this year after the Chinese GP went bye-bye. Plus isn't it in Grade 1 spec? It should be ready to go.
Completely forgot about this track, but really want to give it a go though
Please, bring it back. As a malaysian, i wanna see the wonderful vietnamese grand prix debut
Track itself looks fun, i wish we could be sure if it can provide good races!
I want this race to be run only twice.. that way in case we don't get a wet race the first time, there's always a chance for the next one. I personally view the track as dumb and particularly dangerous. So I hope it can at least see the light of day, albeit a very short day.
Would love to go there in person when it really happens
I would assume it wouldn’t be as profitable as some other options for calendar additions, so unfortunately it probably won’t be added 😕
I am sure the cicuit provide a new challenge but I want to see F1 race back to Sepang and Shanghai also.
32 grand prix??? bruh that's nuts. It's already a lengthy calendar. I can''t imagine it getting as high as 32.
PLEASE THAT TRACK LOOKS SOO GOOD
I was thinking about this a few days ago. I kinda wanted to see them race there but it never happened because of covis
I think we need more tracks like Hanoi in the Eastern Asia/Oceania area. I'm all for this
Agree, but i prefer Malaysia, India or Korea.
@@ub1s.23 just add them all in there
@@ub1s.23 circuit buddh is a classic
Sad to see it go unused for this long
A 30-race calendar then?
@@soundscape26 you can still make a calendar with like 25 events and still have the Hanoi, Malaysia, India etc.
little update: the Vietnam GP company (owned by Vingroup) has officially retired, so there's almost zero chance for F1 to come back to Hanoi by any time soon
As an American it's nice to have 3 races but there are so many other great tracks that would be better than these extra U.S. races. Move on with Vegas and Miami and go somewhere like South Africa, India, Germany, or maybe even a new track in Greece would be nice
Love the videos man 👌🤌
I drove the track on the F1 video game and I love it!!
Imagine Max and the RB19 on that Long straight😭😭😭😭😂😂😂
I like the short videos, its better than you talking about one thing for 8+ minutes
UA-cam videos need to be 8 or more minutes for ads to be displayed so we can understand why he stretches them.
The race in F1 2020 was a banger and hopefully it's back. Honestly I would love to see F1 remove Miami and instead use Malaysia
There are also rumours in the greek internet press that even a greek F1 grand prix to be hosted in a distant future, with few places to be discussed
we need a new vid on what is happening with F1 in South Africa with like the progress and stuff like that
Indian GP should return as well
I agree! 🇮🇳
@@MadeByPerspective The races wasn't that good...
@@Oranje_24 The Indian races happened during peak Vettel domination years. I don't remember them that well, except the track was always surrounded by an orange mist.
@@soundscape26 The track Was ok, but the races like you said was in Vettel's domination years. So we couldn't see any other different winners.
I hope not. But if they do they seriously need to make the hairpin less tight. No one will bother going for a move there it can barely fit 2 cars
I would say put some tracks on the chopping block first. Revise the whole calendar even.
I suspect this would take Spa's place on the calendar so it's a no from me. If not, with Kyalami also on the cards this can only mean a bloated calendar so... a no the same.
As a man with a Vietnamese. My dream is to see F1 race at Vietnam ❤❤❤. I hope it comes true
As of April 29th of 2023, Vingroup (the main investor of Formula 1 in Vietnam) had dissolved one of its child companies named "The Vietnam Grand Prix Co. Ltd", which means F1 will NOT return to Vietnam in the near future. This is indeed a very sad news for Vietnamese F1 fans like me.
This might sound crazy but if F1 does extend it’s calendar do you think that splitting it’s calendar between 4 drivers would help with it’s workload, Aswell as splitting mechanics and race engineers etc
Example; If the calendar is 30 races would it help to split it 15/15 between drivers and team staff
Each driver has their own race engineer, strategist and mechanics, For the first season (meaning if this format is in place starting in 2026) At the beginning of the season the driver pairing who was at the team the longest decides which set of races he wants to race on (Calendar 1 or Calendar 2) which would be pre split fairly in terms of type of track (equal amount of street tracks, difficult to overtake tracks and easier to overtake tracks) (weather cannot be totally predicted so let’s not take that into consideration)
And then after that season it’s whichever driver pairing finishes with the most points gets to choose which calendar they race on…?
This is a totally wild idea but i’m just thinking ahead
So what, 10 drivers per race?
@@grahamreece519 No 20 drivers like we have now
Each team has 4 drivers, but only 2 of those drivers race on any given race weekend.
Example - Mercedes have Hamilton, Russell, Schumacher and Frederick Vesti (Currently in F2)
Hamilton being the longest serving Mercedes driver picks which of the 2 proposed calendars he wants to race on
Example: Calendar 1 - Australia, Bahrain, Miami, Imola, Zandvoort, Canada, Austria, Portimao, Silverstone, Baku, Qatar, Singapore, Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
Calendar 2 - Saudi Arabia, Cota, Las Vegas, Monaco, Monza, Barcelona, Spa etc
And so him and Russell race on that chosen calendar but for the following season the driver pairing with the most points gets to choose which circuits to race on.
@@salim_abid_ Ah, so twice the crews, twice the expense
@@grahamreece519 yh
I don't like that almost all new tracks are street tracks. I don't think that F1 belongs on street tracks anymore, some street tracks good though.
Original F1 2020 with imola would be the perfect Calender
as good as this track looks, i would much rather see a sepang comeback
It's nice that Vietnam is being reconsidered, just a shame the circuit is terrible. What everyone really wants is a GP on the African continent. Doesn't have to be Kyalami, but would love Kyalami.
And the return of the German GP
This is bound to be a "Firey grand prix" sorry I'll see myself to Geneva to attend the convention.
I like the video length
Bad for ads though. 😄
Hopefully not. We don't need anymore Street Circuits.
Its a partial street circuit some is purpose build and some is street
@@tijmendr9006 Yeah maybe, but I think you know, what I mean 😉
Would love for there to be one in Sri Lanka
The Vietnamese GP project failed & got abandoned for good in 2021, so an abandoned thing becoming a viable option again is unrealistic.
Therefore, I'm skeptical about the original report's viability.
I hope F1 returns in India
I'm curious why everyone belly aches about how long the schedule is? I understand the logistics but if you want to be a part of the sport then be a part of the sport. If a? Driver or team? Thinks the Schedule It's too long then don't race. If the workers and if one don't like it then get a different job and let somebody stand in that will do it for how ever many weeks it is.
Vietnam was also cancelled cause one of the key people was arrested, for corruption charges (unrelated to te gp)
Wow how many races can there be? Maybe drivers will not drive in every race eventually
I hope not. I hate street races, and this is just a blending of Sochi, Baku and Jeddah
My only problem with Vietnam potentially happening is the fact it’s ANOTHER street track. Give us a proper track for god sake.
LOL what do you think went we hold an illegal street race call Ho Tay GP in Hanoi with lot of underpowered 110cc Honda Wave Alpha and funny part is the cop is using Yamaha Sirius same 110cc but with higher HP and torque , they can easily catch us...
How can the race "return" if it has not happened before?
I wanna watch a race there
Cool video
Thanks mate!
As a Vietnamese, born and raised in Hanoi, my answer is no and never. The gov is demolishing it tbh, the last time it was used was Jan 1st this year as a test drive for Honda Civic type R
And the 3/4 helmet as a souvenir for this circuit distribuited by Protec is pretty good looking
I think why they not keep that circuit to hold small event for underbone bike racing like in the HCM
The South Vietnamese love to race against the North Vietnamese almighty Honda Wave Alpha with their Yamaha Sirius, Exciter, and Suzuki Raider...
I am biased against it just because of the pain it caused on the F1 2020 game
I’m on board for it. Ditch Saudi Arabia and go to Hanoi
Buring back Fuji race, what if we had both Suzuka and Fuji,
Is F1, MotoGP and WSBK will host Vietnam GP?
I hope it aint coming, rather want to see Sepang or one of the German GP coming back
What do you mean return? We never raced there
2025 calendar revealed and still no Vietnam…
Viet donny here 🙋♂️ Controversial opinion but the track was cancelled due to corruption not covid lol. Viet economy is down bad atm, look at the Saigon Metro system that’s been delayed for nearly 10 years now. Gov officials pocket money from the budget of infrastructure builds and its likely what happened with the hanoi track. Also, the main financial backer was arrested for unrelated charges most DEFINITELY linked to corruption tho (like every gov official ever arrested in Nam, it’s actually kinda hilarious). I lived in Thao Dien (white washed part of Vietnam) and my neighbour was actually a government official and was also arrested for, you guessed it, corruption lol.
wait? returning? when did vietnam grand prix ever existed?
As a Vietnamese, we actually have no chances to host a F1 race because our government is ripping down the F1 track for real estate lol
If it's true this would be embarrassing for Malaysia
Tbh, I just want Malaysia and Germany to be back.
