One of my biggest pet peeve’s is bad packaging as a eBay seller myself I make sure to put bubble wrap on everything and make sure the inside of the box has no gaps so it won’t move around
I had the slim ps3 along with my launch day PS4 for a while. Eventually I sold them both to upgrade to the PS4 pro and now the ps5. I wish I was able to keep all my old consoles just for nostalgia.
Gotta play it just right, there’s a point where these consoles are worth like $50 with a stack of games at a yard sale. I used to pick up 360 consoles for $10-20 console only or $40 with games and use them for rgh. this was almost 4 years ago when I had time for that but I saw a one original for $40 at a yard sale maybe 6 months ago.
I can never believe that some (Or Most) People would sell their Game Consoles and Games for Whatever Reasons you see I've been Gaming since the Mid 2000's and I still own my Original Nintendo GameCube I got it January 17th 2005 (My 7th Birthday and also that will be 17 Years that I've been Gaming since that Day) I still own my Original Nintendo Wii I got for my 10th Birthday back in 2008, I still own my Original Xbox 360 Elite I got in Christmas of 2009, I still own my Original PS4 I got for my 16th Birthday in 2014 (I believe it's a Launch Day PS4) and Last but not least I also still own my Wii U I got on May 25th 2015. You see I still own all of my Game Consoles from my Childhood (When I was a Child in the 2000's and when I was a Teenager in the Early-Mid 2010's from back in the Middle School Days and then the High School Years) I would never Sell or give them Away except I only Sold one of my Older Systems from 2005 and that was the PS2 Slim which I got on March 23rd of that Year 2 Months after I got my GameCube for my 7th Birthday I Sold it August of 2009 I Currently own the Fat Model PS2 so I pretty much kept all of my Game Consoles and only Sold one of them I didn't Start Buying and Collecting Retro Game Consoles and Games Until I turned 18 and Graduated from High School in 2016 and I'm totally gonna keep those for Nostalgia as well because I grew up playing Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, PS1, and Original Xbox and I Decided to Save my Money to Buy all of those and I went and done it from 2016 to 2019. So that's my Experience with Gaming.
you can buy them again later tho but i still keeping my BC PS3 Fat for PS1 and PS2 games, and PS3 Slim for PS3 games and PS4 i dont have a PS5 yet i hope sometime in next year i will get a PS5
That PS3 has the issue known as the Green Light of Death (GLOD), where the GPU chip itself has died. Very common on the launch 60gb A01s for some reason. (I noticed the launch HDD cover). Most CECHA01s I’ve come across either have the YLOD or GLOD. The CECHE01s have been much nicer to me.
From my experience, the original 90nm RSX is pretty unreliable and they were used right into the CECH-H models :\ A lot of people mis-diagnosed the YLOD as a BGA problem / the NEC Tokins, which it certainly can be, but finding an A0403034 error code from the syscon is pretty common with those earlier boards too. Someone has done a 40nm RSX mod on an original backwards compatible board earlier this year, though! I think that could be promising
That has to be the worst example of an ebay item I've ever seen, thank goodness for eBay having their insurance so you'll get your money back. How the seller could just throw the ps3 in a box that wasn't even big enough, and then nothing to protect it, must have been in one heck of a rush. What was their seller rating? I can't imagine it was anything in the 60% plus categories. Oh well better luck with your next purchase.
I still have my original launch day PS3 that I camped for 3 days to get! I got it on the original very first jailbreak firmware and played games off the hard drive for years. I downloaded GTA V on Thursday before the game released and spent the entire weekend playing it, I miss those days!
@@KingStr0ng I haven't used it in a few years but did fire it up a week ago and it works like it always did. I have a small compressor I use to blow all my electronics out so I've always kept it super clean but I'm sure the thermal paste is like the desert now so I'll most likely do a teardown to replace it. I actually just did that on my PS4 Pro because it was ramping the fans up hard on certain games.
Man that PS3 looks like it has 300k miles on it. Good video example of the experience you get from eBay… . My backwards ps3 died after nine years and I bought a slim ps3 and a ps2 also I have retro tink products 5x pro and multi format.
i personally only buy things from people that have hardly any negative reviews at best none and when they do have a few negative ones i always check what the people criticized and when those people have good pictures of the item that show that it is on good condition. I basically never had any problems with this and when you pay with paypal you always can get your money back in those rare cases you do have problems
I recently fixed a slim ps3 with basically the same symptoms, it was a faulty hard drive that I had to replace, don't know if it would be the same for the fat model though. Mine didn't show display for around 5-10 mins before giving me a message saying that it couldn't read the hdd and once replaced, it worked fine.
I just got one from a local store and was able to test before buying. Love it so much nothing is more cool than playing ps1 and ps2 on a ps3 plus slightly better graphics with hdmi. It will stay in my collection forever.
i personally think that Ps1 and Ps2 games played on a Ps3 look really really bad on modern Hd Tv's. Those same games look like a million times better on my same Tv when i play them on my Ps2 slim via component cable. Now there are some retro scalers available for playing Ps1 and 2 via hdmi on Hd Tvs but those have additional costs especially the better ones and i don't even know if they really do make the image quality noticeably better
I sell/restore backwards compatible PS3s on Ebay all the time.. mainly I fix the disk drives but I fix other less serious issues as well.. too bad you didn't buy one of mine lol. I always make sure they work and even redo the thermal paste on mine and do things to increase their longevity to my buyers like jailbreak them (last buyer paid 225 plus tax and shipping). I usually pack the crap out of them because I know they are fragile when shipped.. have had no complaints lol

I’ve been a repair technician for the last 10 years. What you’re seeing is something known as the green light of death. Similar to the yellow light of death. The YLOD indicates a general hardware failure where the system is not able to complete its POST process. The GLOD happens when the system cannot even begin its POST test. This is normally caused by a CPU issue rather than the most common GPU power delivery or failure issues that caused the YLOD. Your PS3 is what we would call “braindead” since the cpu is failing to operate, so much so that you can’t even turn the system off. I’m sorry to see this, and if you’re willing to pay for shipping, i could give you a known good motherboard for it
Maybe try it on a TV. Maybe it's a HDMI handshake or HDCP issue. If you get no picture on the TV try resetting ps3 a couple of times by holding down the power button until you hear the second beep. HDCP can sometimes stop PlayStation consoles displaying on monitors I think, so try a TV, worth a shot.
A little different over here in Japan, I've just found one for just under $110 + $10 shipping, a lot of scratches apparently, only one controller, the usual cables, no games. It's still a risk obviously but it's from one of the largest 2nd hand retailers in the country so if it doesn't work it has a refund policy within 3 months. Fingers crossed!
That's alot I payed 28 pound for 2 which didn't have wires or pads but as I had them from previous PlayStation's that broke in the past I thought it was a good deal both work great
I own a fat PS3 with the very same model. Got it on eBay presumably quite cheap from my parents. It works, but every time I use it I'm like terrified it'll be my last play session lmao. Occasionally the games will crash. I try to treat the thing with love and care but I absolutely fear the looming specter of the yellow light of death
I know this is two years ago, but I just bought a near-perfect CECHE01 MG locally that works great. Not a scratch on it. Paid a little more than you did for yours. Got VERY lucky, considering you never know what you're going to get with these. Love the look of my PS2 games on it.

I don’t understand how people are this careless. I still have my ps3 from launch day (80gb model) and I have used it/had it setup every day since them. Works absolutely flawlessly to this day and has no scratches.
The masking tape was put there by the yard sale proprietor. It said "$5 AS IS". This is just my guess. Oh, the logo isn't loose. It's designed to rotate with the vertical versus horizontal placement of the console. Found that out in another video.
the logo on the original ps3 models is supposed to able to rotate so that the logo can face the right way if you choose to stand the console up on its side
I got a ps3 slim off eBay for $165 almost 7 years ago. It works well but you can tell it'd been opened and has stuff replaced as it has a newer disk drive and hard drive, as well as a few screws missing. It works good at least though.
I’ve received worse 😅. I bought two GameCubes for like $27 plus shipping (this was maybe 8yrs ago) with the intention of using the parts only. One of them had what appeared to be melted Lucas all over the outside and some inside. I cleaned it after taking it apart and still salvaged quite a bit of it. I wasn’t mad though, I should’ve been but it was something fun I was doing in my spare time at that time. I even used to POT tweak to read burned games 😬
@@echonomad94 It’s Mexican seasoning that’s in a granulated form like sugar. As kids we ate it as it was. The label had a Duck wearing black shades and possibly a black jacket. Very sticky but my GameCube looked like the liquid version of that was all over it. It also smelled like it. Wasn’t a bad smell just sticky.
I got a ps3 without a controller for 50 bucks. It was in almost perfect condition, just had dust all over it because it had been sitting in storage. Once it was cleaned and thermal paste was replaced it runs like new
This is why you don't buy used consoles from private sellers. I bought a Sega Saturn years ago that was listed as working. When i got it, the lens didn't read discs.
It needs 2 fast consecutive beeps to reset it if I remember correctly. I bought one of these but the hb version (same thing but no wifi, no card reader and all black, no chrome on the fascia) a year ago for a 100$ CAD. It's in really great condition but I had to change the disk drive and put new thermal paste. The warranty sticker was still on it. I was very lucky! It works perfectly and does not have too many scratches!
When you’re doing the video reset trick you’re actually supposed to hold it until you hear two quick consecutive beeps in a row. Try holding the power button a little longer. Happened to me about a year ago. There might still be other problems with it but hopefully this helps at least with getting you started

bought a lightly used CECHA model for $330 two months ago and works really well, the worst thing about it really was a weird mark on the panel with the logo but its not that bad already finished Infamous, MGS4, and MGS2HD on the thing
I bought a FAT PS3 in July this year and got soo lucky. It was clean, came with 17 games most of which were shovelware kind of games, barely had a scratch on it. So now i can play PS2 games on my 4k screen and they still are kind of blurry 🥴. At least i own a PS3 now so i can cross that of my to do list✌️😅
I managed to get this same model in pristine condition, with like 30+ games from some guy off Facebook marketplace for like $200. It was such a good deal I didn't even bother haggling with the guy.
About eight years ago, I bought a backwards compatible, PS three and it was shipped in an oversized box and it’s only so-called protection was, get this, that it was inside a dirty pillowcase. Yes, you read that right, a dirty pillowcase. The person who shipped it told me they thought that would be enough to protect it. A dirty pillowcase. Gross.
Still got my ps3 as a netflix, blue ray, and Spotify player.😁slim 500 gb model bought on release date, works very well. I regularly clean the cd with a disk, that's it.
I know it is an old console and all that, and that it was probably owned by a kid, but still ... who the heck treats their stuff like this ? My PS3 (the 40GB model) still looks and works like brand new (although it does need a dust cleaning, because it sounds like a jet turbine).
I still have my launch PS3, which I got on ebay, I had to buy my PS5 on ebay too. I also found a original PS3 for $10 at a second hand store and that one seems to work.
to be honest, the ps3 slim was good on it not having a yellow light all the time, and it felt more advanced than the ps3 super slim, but the ps3 fat has better chance not working. good news i did grow up with a ps3 slim anyways, was close to having a super slim.
I recently got a ps3 in extremely nice condition fully backwards compatible with two controllers all the cords and 25 games and I got it for $220 best offer I was very happy about that!!!
I had the same problem with a super slim that I rescued from e-waste. Turned out to be a dead hard drive. I replaced it with a newly formatted drive and flashed the OS. After that it was fine.
You should check if if has a hdd and if so put the ps3 software on it by flash drive. (maintenance mode) then replace hdd and try again. Had this problem on an original myself and sorted it out until the blueray drive failed. Ps3 slim modded with custom filmware is the best bet.
Ugh. This really makes me cautious now with buying a backwards compatible PS3. Just wondering did you check the rating on the seller before you bought this? If they don't have 100% feedback I don't buy from them.
Cheapest?!? I call Shanigans!! I got mine for $60 on ebay back in 2010. It had the YLOD, but after a reflow worked perfectly after that. Even was packaged just as badly as yours, actually it was worse! Mine had a huge hole in a corner and it was a miracle the system showed up at all!!
I'm sorry but I don't trust Ebay anymore. Every DVD I have gotten from there as new has turned out to be pirated some done really badly where you could tell the sleeve was cut with scissors, and one actually had blue ray recording discs that looked black and showed up on the player as BD-R. Which gives those legit Ebay sellers a bad rap and that's not right.
I got lucky, got one for 80, boxed even! Perfect condition! (yes, on ebay). Just to replay deadly premonition, the silent hills, fatal frames and dantes inferno. I'm going to sell it when I'm done :)

I have managed to get 2 vackwards compatible ps3's cheap. Got 1 for £15. The daughter stuck more than 1 dvd in it. He didnt know how to fix it. Had it fixed within an hour. Also did thermal paste on it. Next 1 was £20. He didn't know it was a 60gb model and didn't realise the price of them. I just bought that and sold it for a big lrofit.
i still use a ps3 slim, because its still supported, the graphics are great, and i got it for 100 dollars. i love the ps3 slim and yes ive used a ps4 and 5 before, i just love the ps3 slim

Hey bud , your doing the picture problem wrong , you need to hold down the power button and hit the switch on the back at the same time, and wait till you hear a double beep, then let go of the power button on the front. System will ask you to hook up the controller, and push the center button on controller. Should be all fixed, let me know.
Off of eBay,I think I purchased the cheapest BC 60gb ps3 that worked for 55 bucks free shipping, but no controller and WORKS and still works!! This was back in 2020.. I’m shocked nobody purchased it. Also today I just purchased another Bc ps3, but the 80gb Bc version for 95 bucks…. Once again nobody was watching this either lol probably because they didn’t have “ backward compatible” in the headliner like everybody who’s trying to sell theirs has…😂

I own a fat PS3 with the very same model. Got it on eBay presumably quite cheap from my parents. It works, but every time I use it I'm like terrified it'll be my last play session lmao. Occasionally the games will crash. I try to treat the thing with love and care but I absolutely fear the looming specter of the yellow light of death
I know this is two years ago, but I just bought a near-perfect CECHE01 MG locally that works great. Not a scratch on it. Paid a little more than you did for yours. Got VERY lucky, considering you never know what you're going to get with these. Love the look of my PS2 games on it.

I don’t understand how people are this careless. I still have my ps3 from launch day (80gb model) and I have used it/had it setup every day since them. Works absolutely flawlessly to this day and has no scratches.
My 60GB model finally died in early 2021 after almost fifteen years
The masking tape was put there by the yard sale proprietor. It said "$5 AS IS". This is just my guess. Oh, the logo isn't loose. It's designed to rotate with the vertical versus horizontal placement of the console. Found that out in another video.

the logo on the original ps3 models is supposed to able to rotate so that the logo can face the right way if you choose to stand the console up on its side
I got a ps3 slim off eBay for $165 almost 7 years ago. It works well but you can tell it'd been opened and has stuff replaced as it has a newer disk drive and hard drive, as well as a few screws missing. It works good at least though.
Gonna have to say, thats a lot for a ps3 slim, fir a slim $100 is a great price and was the price I paid for mine in great condition.
if u face this problem in newly bought ps3 the only problem is hard disk. Try replacing or formatting hard disk and install new firmware on it
I’ve received worse 😅. I bought two GameCubes for like $27 plus shipping (this was maybe 8yrs ago) with the intention of using the parts only. One of them had what appeared to be melted Lucas all over the outside and some inside. I cleaned it after taking it apart and still salvaged quite a bit of it. I wasn’t mad though, I should’ve been but it was something fun I was doing in my spare time at that time. I even used to POT tweak to read burned games 😬

@@echonomad94 It’s Mexican seasoning that’s in a granulated form like sugar. As kids we ate it as it was. The label had a Duck wearing black shades and possibly a black jacket. Very sticky but my GameCube looked like the liquid version of that was all over it. It also smelled like it. Wasn’t a bad smell just sticky.

I got a ps3 without a controller for 50 bucks. It was in almost perfect condition, just had dust all over it because it had been sitting in storage. Once it was cleaned and thermal paste was replaced it runs like new

You could've tried cleaning the HDMI port. Maybe the contacts in the port were too dirty.
This is why you don't buy used consoles from private sellers. I bought a Sega Saturn years ago that was listed as working. When i got it, the lens didn't read discs.
maybe it's software bricked, you could try to get it in safe mode and install an update file
It needs 2 fast consecutive beeps to reset it if I remember correctly. I bought one of these but the hb version (same thing but no wifi, no card reader and all black, no chrome on the fascia) a year ago for a 100$ CAD. It's in really great condition but I had to change the disk drive and put new thermal paste. The warranty sticker was still on it. I was very lucky! It works perfectly and does not have too many scratches!
When you’re doing the video reset trick you’re actually supposed to hold it until you hear two quick consecutive beeps in a row. Try holding the power button a little longer. Happened to me about a year ago. There might still be other problems with it but hopefully this helps at least with getting you started
That's what I thought too but I tried holding it down longer and could never could 2 beeps to happen in a row like that

I bought a FAT PS3 in July this year and got soo lucky.
It was clean, came with 17 games most of which were shovelware kind of games, barely had a scratch on it.
So now i can play PS2 games on my 4k screen and they still are kind of blurry 🥴.
At least i own a PS3 now so i can cross that of my to do list✌️😅
Get an mClassic. They make your old consoles look great on 4K screens.
I managed to get this same model in pristine condition, with like 30+ games from some guy off Facebook marketplace for like $200. It was such a good deal I didn't even bother haggling with the guy.
About eight years ago, I bought a backwards compatible, PS three and it was shipped in an oversized box and it’s only so-called protection was, get this, that it was inside a dirty pillowcase. Yes, you read that right, a dirty pillowcase. The person who shipped it told me they thought that would be enough to protect it. A dirty pillowcase. Gross.
This was once a beautiful working console but the previous owner used it to death. The way it was shipped was the cherry on top.
Still got my ps3 as a netflix, blue ray, and Spotify player.😁slim 500 gb model bought on release date, works very well. I regularly clean the cd with a disk, that's it.

I know it is an old console and all that, and that it was probably owned by a kid, but still ... who the heck treats their stuff like this ? My PS3 (the 40GB model) still looks and works like brand new (although it does need a dust cleaning, because it sounds like a jet turbine).

I still have my launch PS3, which I got on ebay, I had to buy my PS5 on ebay too. I also found a original PS3 for $10 at a second hand store and that one seems to work.
to be honest, the ps3 slim was good on it not having a yellow light all the time, and it felt more advanced than the ps3 super slim, but the ps3 fat has better chance not working. good news i did grow up with a ps3 slim anyways, was close to having a super slim.
Little known fact! The PS3 Super Slim can play PS2 games also, you just need Hen(easy to do, UA-cam it). It can play game backups but not from disc.

That PS3 logo wobble is normal, you can rotate it if you want to use the console in a vertical position.

I had the same problem with a super slim that I rescued from e-waste. Turned out to be a dead hard drive. I replaced it with a newly formatted drive and flashed the OS. After that it was fine.

You should check if if has a hdd and if so put the ps3 software on it by flash drive. (maintenance mode) then replace hdd and try again. Had this problem on an original myself and sorted it out until the blueray drive failed. Ps3 slim modded with custom filmware is the best bet.
That ps3 had a rough life time.

I got mine for $60 on ebay back in 2010. It had the YLOD, but after a reflow worked perfectly after that.
Even was packaged just as badly as yours, actually it was worse! Mine had a huge hole in a corner and it was a miracle the system showed up at all!!

ChechA are best mobos. They have hardware backward compatibility, it's a full ps2 inside.

I'm sorry but I don't trust Ebay anymore. Every DVD I have gotten from there as new has turned out to be pirated some done really badly where you could tell the sleeve was cut with scissors, and one actually had blue ray recording discs that looked black and showed up on the player as BD-R. Which gives those legit Ebay sellers a bad rap and that's not right.

I have managed to get 2 vackwards compatible ps3's cheap. Got 1 for £15. The daughter stuck more than 1 dvd in it. He didnt know how to fix it. Had it fixed within an hour. Also did thermal paste on it. Next 1 was £20. He didn't know it was a 60gb model and didn't realise the price of them. I just bought that and sold it for a big lrofit.
i still use a ps3 slim, because its still supported, the graphics are great, and i got it for 100 dollars. i love the ps3 slim and yes ive used a ps4 and 5 before, i just love the ps3 slim

I was lucky I payed 28 pounds for 2 backwards compatible playstation 3.s they didn't come with wires or pads but I already had them from previous PS3.s that had broken in the past both work great
Hey bud , your doing the picture problem wrong , you need to hold down the power button and hit the switch on the back at the same time, and wait till you hear a double beep, then let go of the power button on the front. System will ask you to hook up the controller, and push the center button on controller. Should be all fixed, let me know.
Off of eBay,I think I purchased the cheapest BC 60gb ps3 that worked for 55 bucks free shipping, but no controller and WORKS and still works!! This was back in 2020.. I’m shocked nobody purchased it. Also today I just purchased another Bc ps3, but the 80gb Bc version for 95 bucks…. Once again nobody was watching this either lol probably because they didn’t have “ backward compatible” in the headliner like everybody who’s trying to sell theirs has…😂
I have 2 units. An original USA launch machine and a UK launch machine. still have the boxes in the attic, in fact I have 3 boxes in the attic I can't remember how I ended up with 3 boxes, but I only have 2 machines and they are pretty much like new.
