I grew up listening to this song. This is my mom's favorite Eagles song. She said her friends used to make fun of her listening to white folks' music, but she loved music PERIOD! Just because she lived in South Central Ca and went to school in Compton, Ca. She said it just made her better because she was more open to everything. So with that said, the Eagles are one of our favorite bands. And I can't tell you why lol!
Music before were so good you can almost taste it. They don't make these type of mysic anymore today and im sad. Im born 1995 and im 28 now but i would say music before are timeless and exquisitely written. The voices are also out of this world.
Have you listened to The Righteous brothers? try Bobby Hatfield singing Unchained Melody 0n the Andy Williams TV show, or Soul and Inspiration, You’ll never walk alone (on Ed Sullivan show), Try Bring it on home to me (Bobby even gets Bill to smile), Dream on, Summertime, Somewhere. . . so many and 99% terrific❤
The lead singer in this song also wrote it. The rule with the Eagles was, you wrote it, you sing it, and it's yours. So he got full credit for this song. If you watch him in the video you can see the tears in his eyes because he was so happy to have his first ever song....and it was a hit!
My favorite song by the Eagles. My son actually got me tickets to a concert in 2018 and I got to see them for the first time and it was the best birthday present ever. I also like One Of These Nights, please listen to it if you get a chance.
Absolutely perfect, beautiful vocals by Timothy! The simple but lovely music allows him to shine right through. Not to mention the top notch harmonies (as always)! This has always been one of the Eagles' best.
I went to one of their “Hell Freezes Over” tour concerts. It was Glenn’s birthday, got to sing him Happy Birthday at the top of my lungs with 30k+ other fans, it was great. Sad when he passed too young, but it felt like a moment just for him, and I’ll always remember that.
My parents used to run a country inn in Connecticut with fine dining about an hour and a half outside of NYC. One day in the mid 80's MTV was on (back when people still watched it for the music videos) and they played the video "The Heat Is On" from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. My mother looks up, squints, and goes "He looks just like Mr. Frey!" My jaw dropped and I said, "What did you just say?!" My mom goes "He looks just like the Mr. Frey who came in for lunch the other day. Such a nice man!" She had no idea.
The Eagles poached Bass player Timothy Schmidt from a band that toured with them, Poco. Schmidt wrote this song and Glen Frey and Don Henley added their touches before recording it. When the album was finished they had kind of a preview/listening session at the studio and when Henley saw people's reaction to this song he turned to Schmidt and said "There's your first hit"
I'm old now, but always shocked when I see someone listen to the Eagles for the first time. Your reactions were priceless! The Eagles are magical indeed!
One of the greatest songs ever written. I am glad you all had such a positive reaction to this. Don Felder on lead guitar created magic, and Timothy on vocals was brilliant. An iconic song
I cant tell you why !! The EAGLES, they have always been my go to music! We should all be so lucky to have experienced the Eagles. LOVE them, love y'all too!
Timothy B. Schmit sings this one and co-wrote it. Interesting note: Timothy replaced Randy Meisner as Eagles bassist and had previously replaced Randy when Randy left Poco.
I have loved the Eagles since forever and this has to be my favourite song of theirs ❤ the kind of song you can just close your eyes to and get taken somewhere you don't want to come back from ❤ what a great voice Tim Schmidt (bassist) who took the lead vocals in this song has 🎵🎶🎧
Magic is the exact right definition for The Eagles talent and music. Hard to touch them collectively, like here, but also individually in whatever they created.💖
Classic by the EAGLES!! Back in the day where my city pretty much had 1 radio station for all genres. I heard songs and learned of some great artist from all genres. As I kid I learned that music had no boundaries....It's able to transcend....it's only limitations are in the mind of the unwilling.
Shawn and Mel - I've been watching your reaction video's since the first day. You bring so much joy and love into people's hearts. Thank you for all your hard work to make this world a little brighter in these dark times. Your fans love you. Keep up the amazing work, you are greatly appreciated.
Timothy B. Schmit... his vocals are nothing less than mesmerizing. I have seen several versions of this song... BUT not this version. Thank you so much for reacting to it. Take care.
Yes it's nice to have grown up heating this music on the radio. A whole mood could change just by listening. I'm very thankful to all our musicians. They put love for us into their music.
Tasteful. Nothing overbearing. Nothing overdone. Nothing in excess. Silky smooth. Natural. Beautiful in every era. The Vikings & Aztecs would have loved this song. 😅
The Eagles Greatest Hits is the biggest selling album of the 20th century -- and you can see why. They're also the soundtrack of high school for me. Check out "The Best of My Love"... one of the best songs of the 20th century in my opinion.
What a smash hit this song is.. If memory serves the Eagles are the only group to score number one hits on the country, rock, and r&b charts.. What a group of stellar musicians, never crowding each other.. Timeless songs, unprecedented lyrics, the vocal harmonies are masterful.. R.I.P. Timothy B. Schmit, your vocals, ethereal.. Enjoyed your reactions to this epic masterpiece of soulfulness..
Thank you for this song from the Eagles. Made my Monday. You guys rock. Thank you again. Eagles have Beautiful messages to their music, and I definitely can relate.
The Eagles are the most successful band in pretty much the whole world. They have 2 albums in the top 5 best sellers in history! This song is from '79 The Long Run. The other 2 is Hotel California and greatest hits album. They were the band playing in my head in the 70s. In '79 it was over, but they got back together in the late 90s! I finally got to see them in concert in '03! It was great! Nice reaction!
This song reminds me of my husband. I lost him in 1979. I had two kids. He would be so proud. I have a great life. The kids are wonderful beautiful adults. He'd love his grandson.
Not too many bass players writing songs and singing them. Love this song! The Eagles are so talented. They all play multiple instruments and are singer/songwriters.
"Schmit describes the song as "loosely based on my own experiences."[7] Schmit said: "I had some writing sessions with Don and Glenn and I threw out a bunch of my ideas and that one [for "I Can't Tell You Why"] stuck. I had [composed] a pretty good part of it, not a huge part but enough for them to think 'That could be good' and go with it. So Don, Glenn and I finished it over a few all night sessions."[8] He also said, "When it was being developed in the studio...I knew it was a great song. I [thought] 'Yes! This is an amazing debut for me.' When we finally mixed it, we had a little listening party at the studio. As people were hearing it, Don turned to me and said, 'There's your first hit.'""
Timothy B Schmit vocals on this is just classic!! Love the Eagles, every song they ever put out. I can remember listening to them on the school bus coming home from school.
My mother loved the Eagles especially this song. She loved all these songs that were slow and easy and had great singers. She also Loved Al Greens music the most. Miss you Mom. She is in heaven now. Passed on 12/22/2006 from Bone Cancer. 😪
This song has so much soul in it ! One of my favorite Eagles songs! Have a great week S&M ! I had to leave because I'm disabled, and on a lot of meds every day. No harm, no foul. Was just tired...Peace, love and all that's good in life !
That goes right to the feel good button. Songs like this are made for slow dancing and Midnight cruises along the beach. Just looking at what you've managed to review, then multiply that by I don't know how much, and think that this was what we heard all day on the radio. Some.said the Eagles got so good they could just go out on stage and warm up for a couple hours and the crowd would be happy.
Loved seeing this studio version of my favorite Eagles song. They have it all….excellent songwriting, magical voices and harmonies and unbelievable instrumentation. Thanks for the great reaction. Love your channel. 👏👏
If I was on my death bed and could listen to one last song before I check out, this would be the one. The guitar solo is technically simple but musically, it's from another dimension where angels live.
For being softly sung and mellow sounding it's a very powerful song that just grabs hold of your emotions and draws you in. Only the Eagles can make you feel this way.
The vocals cease, but the music continues and the haunting emotion of the lyrics somehow becomes concentrated even though unvoiced. It's a sort of musical magic that seems peculiar to this song. It just gets under the skin

I love when I go to the comments and learn stuff. ❤❤❤
I believe that Hotel California was written by Don Felder and he was not able to perform (which he very much wanted to).
@@robjohnson5872 Lyrics by Glenn Frye, music by Don Henley and Don Felder.
The man’s name is Timothy B Schmidt.
@@Mainecoonlady. and he also was in Poco
Don Felders guitar solo still one of my favorites of all time.
It blows my mind that Don and Glenn could replace incredibly talented guys like Don Felder and Randy Meisner and still roll on making hit after hit.
My favorite song by the Eagles. My son actually got me tickets to a concert in 2018 and I got to see them for the first time and it was the best birthday present ever. I also like One Of These Nights, please listen to it if you get a chance.
If I could only listen to one group for the rest of my life, it would be the Eagles.
Ditto
I'd beg for two, The Eagles and Pink Floyd!!
Absolutely!!!! My favorite music act !!! EVER!!!!!
I second Pink Floyd but I have to add the Beatles
They are a first class band, making hit after hit.
Love, love, love this song and Timothy B. Schmit’s gorgeous vocals!
Absolutely perfect, beautiful vocals by Timothy! The simple but lovely music allows him to shine right through. Not to mention the top notch harmonies (as always)! This has always been one of the Eagles' best.
I love it too!
1000%👍👍👍
Best American band hands down.😮
His voice is gold! So smooth!!
Decades after this song was first aired, and it STILL gives me chills. Timothy's vocals are magical.
Man, the eagles know how to kickass and always have !!👍👍🤟🤟⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘❤🥰 RIP Glenn. You are greatly missed

This is my favorite Song by Timothy Schmidt…he just added so much to the Eagles when he joined them.
My favorite Eagles song
Same. I loved it since it first came out.

One of my favorite tunes by the Eagles. The song truly soared!
I'm old now, but always shocked when I see someone listen to the Eagles for the first time. Your reactions were priceless! The Eagles are magical indeed!
Eagles was one of those bands that didn't have a bad song and had 3 singers! They have a huge catalog.
So true!
They had 4 singers! Don’t forget about Joe Walsh!
Just saw them a few days ago and they had five different leads ... Timothy, Henley, Walsh, Deacon Frey and Vince Gill. They were all wonderful!
My favorite Eagles song!! It takes you somewhere else!!🎶❤🎶
I remember hearing this on the radio when it first came out. I was young - but always sang the chorus. It was so good.
One of the greatest songs ever written. I am glad you all had such a positive reaction to this. Don Felder on lead guitar created magic, and Timothy on vocals was brilliant. An iconic song
Don Felder's guitar solo is such an exquisite piece of music. Masterpiece.
My #1 guitar solo of all time. So simple yet so emotional so beautiful so heavenly so musical. I can't listen to it enough.
when its fading out, you hold onto the little licks he's repeating while they're getting quieter and quieter. understated but elegant.
Except on the album it was actually glen fry that plays it
My favorite slow solo. Thanks, Don Felder, He holds his guitar like a man would hold a woman.
@@jasonmgomez I adore the outro of this song. That little inversion of the lick he does is magical.
I cant tell you why !!

One of my fav Eagles songs. Love Timothy B. voice.
The bass line on this song is so beautiful and melodic...which he plays while singing. Crazy.
Don Felder is the greatest guitar player ever. Nobody can play like he does.
silly comment
I saw them live a week ago. They played this song and it sounds just as good live now as it did in the studio then.
Its simply magical
Yes! Just saw them in Lexington Ky.
I remember you reacting to this song before. I can never get enough of it! One of my absolute favorites from the Eagles.🥰
