Phase 1: Shock
Phase 2: Denial
Phase 3: Acceptance
Phase 4: Vibing along
LMAO!!!
I know. Brainwashed people....quit listening to the MSM!!!!
Thats Bobby Caldwell syndrome
I couldn’t have put that ANY better!!
Love this observation! 😅
No one expected Indiana Jones to be singing this.
😂😂😂
In 1979, Billboard Magazine nominated Caldwell for best new black R&B artist of the year, he didn't win after they - and the rest of the world - discovered he isn't black.
This and Chuck Mancini was used as closing songs for RB stations, if they only knew 😂
They had a black category? Haha
What's up with this?? Not black, so no nomination?? Hum, sounds a little fishy to me!! I really can't believe this malarkey, they the music industry didn't work like this!! Being black or white had no baring on a certain song, how good or bad it may have been. I think that this rumor is a big-o fibber-roo... LMBOOTYOFF 🤣🤣🤣
@@rhondamcbath6279 the category is for black artists so yeah he didn't win it lol
@@wormfood69 that's crazy huh? Lol 😆
To say the black community was shock is an understatement. Not revealing Bobby Caldwell’s race was a strategic move by record label. Remember this was in 1978, things were different. This was played on every black radio station and everyone thought he was a “brother”😂 I remember my mom saying: I’ll be damn he’s white and sounds smooth as hell😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. This will forever be a classic💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥. By the way your reaction when his face appeared was everything😂
Yes, but it also shows how easy it is to manipulate Blacks as they have little flexibility in appreciating other forms of music.
The control matrixes agenda has always been to separate people. That’s why I love these platforms so much. Leaving the matrix. Love love love, we’re all one!!!
Their faces- I think we all had that face when we found out. But we embrace him like Tina Marie, Jon B, Michael McDonald..
@@spideraxis Yeah. Just throw us all in one box. Very ignorant of you. Anyone would be surprised at his voice not just us
@@nuday777 The difference is Whites buy music because they like it. Blacks buy music based on the race of the singer. The record companies know it, which is why they concealed Caldwell's image.
The look on y'alls faces was PRICELESS
"Hol' up.. Is that Bobby??" 🤣🤣
@@mikef2609 😲
Mel is hilarious 🤣
After he did this video he said "Surprise MF'ER!!!!
Your face expressions when you saw him for the first time is PRICELESS!!🤣🤣
RIP Bobby Caldwell, thank you for the great music, Sir!
I must have been under a rock because I didn't know he passed
FIRST "Blue Eyed Soul Brother" sorry Righteous Brothers but Bobby was IT for me
R.I.P. 😢
He passed away last week on the 14th
@@kevinbradshaw9320 oh no 🥺😢😞 I just read that he passed omg I can't believe he's gone it's so sad he was so young I wouldn't have known had it not been for your posting yes fly high Bobby Caldwell I know your singing in heaven right now for God and the Angels live on forever in eternity jazz maestro.🙏🕊️✝️
@@Anonymous4212 Bobby was 71 years young when he passed away.
And the HORRENDOUS thing...the UNFORGIVABLE thing was that he was taken because of some antibiotics that destroyed his body.
Medicine that was supposed to help, but came with a serious warning
May his family eventually find some solace, some peace
Sadly, Bobby Caldwell passed away March 14, 2023 in NJ at age 71. Iconic and soulful crooner. He will be missed.
It’s sad because he struggled the best part of the last 6 yrs for a antibiotic this was too strong for his body and it destroyed his body , between 2017-2023 he suffered
@@ihabibrahim.5197 that's just so sad.
Indeed!!
RIH Bobby Caldwell
I'm 67 years old and grew up listening to Bobby Caldwell on the radio but didn't know he was white. I just loved his voice. So, you're not alone in your shock. But, i really don't care what color a person is because there is so much more to people than color. Bobby Caldwell is the perfect example! ❤❤❤
I love watching the moment he moves out of the shadow. Everyone who grew up listening to this song has the same reaction.
💯💯💯
Backin 78 our whole family stood STILL in the living room staring at the TV
I just found out today of his race at 34 years old wow! He did his thing tho!
Soul music truly comes from the heart and "Soul". Color does not matter. You either have it or you don't. 🤩 Enjoy your reactions!!!
💯 FACT
I wished the 🌎 World was colorblind!😒
That's like saying white folks can't dance DEPENDS WHO'S TEACHING YOU
Just like cooking. There are many southern white women that burn in the kitchen. I knew a few that could make hot water cornbread, smothered steak, gravy, biscuits, greens. DAMN. Getting a little 😋
Well said
I'm a thrash metal drummer raised on Temptations, Hall n Oats and Bee Gees and I didn't know Bobby was white till last year, just as shocked as everyone else. I remember cranking this song when ever it came on the radio. So much soul.
one of the most diverse artists out there, he's even got an album doing frank sinatra covers. but hes not doing too well atm battling a long term illness, so lets pray for him yall.
Oh no 😔
Damn i didn't even know bobby was still alive. I mean I don't keep up with that stuff tho. But I hopes he gets better
man is he not alright?
a while back i checked his twitter and a family member was speaking on his behalf. i think giving an apology for all his cancelled shows and described it as a long term illness. 🙁@@vittalvandavasu16
@@MAGICCOFFEY ohhhh that is so sad
There's whole compilations of people being shocked he's white 😂😂 trust, you're definitely not the only ones!
Oh, I'm definitely going to watch that video!
Absolutely…I remember when this came out…not only did everyone assume he was black…the song got huge airplay on “the black stations”. Great voice, tone, style…still holds up great to this day!
Exactly, Ithis song was one of the songs of my youth and I never knew he was white until this moment.
I work in radio and did at the time, so I knew. The reactions then were priceless, the reactions now are cracking me up. Bobby Caldwell also played every instrument on that song. Incredible jazz multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Check out his discography!!! You will thank me. RIP BOBBY CALDWELL! No doubt he is invited to the heavenly cookout.
@@thearmchairactivistgratefu2274 Like Madonna, didn't they try to hide his looks on his first major release?
Yes it did. As a matter a fact. Around the 🌍🌎🌏. You know that he made bank
R.I.P Bobby Caldwell you will be missed tremendously! 😢
That boy had Soul 🙏❤️
That's the way it should be. If someone has a great voice, the color of there skin is irrelevant. Just kick back, listen and enjoy.
AMEN 🙏, YOU CAN HAVE A SOULFUL VOICE REGARDLESS OF YOUR RACE , ❤ THIS 🔥🎶
Just love the music....
Unless it's magenta.
Exacto 💯🙏
Great music doesn't have a color.
Bobby wrote and produced this..he's amazing in concert
I read aomewhwre that he played all the instruments on this song.
Regardless of his color, he has a R&B cultural classic! I thought he was black until about 10-15 years ago. Still 🔥💯 RIP Mr. Caldwell. He passed today.❤️🙏🏾
It is so funny that black people are shaking their heads and grooving until they see Bobby Caldwell come out of the darkness and their reaction is just so epic hilarious!!! Theyre like WTF 🤣🤣🤣
Dying laughing, that moment in life when you realize everything you thought you knew was wrong, that blue eyed soul will leave you speechless, love it
lol agree
Non fa niente di che colore sia ma cantava benissimo e il pezzo magnifico.
It's amazing how the song is not dated. Rest with the Angels, Bobby
Anyone who sounds like a black singer should consider that a huge compliment!
This guy must come from a parallel universe. Not only his voice, but his arrangements, the background, the instruments, no autotune, etc. It's soul down to the bone.
(Watching you guys in shock? Gold!)😁
This is Blue-eyed Soul.
Hellz yeah. ♥️❤️♥️✌️
This is music with feeling , will always love it
He should have gotten the R&B award in 1979,just because he fooled alot of ppl!!
I wonder how no one bothered the want to know who song I want to say the best song sung today My opinion not saying everyone else is bad or nothing
I'm Puerto Rican whom grew up in NYC- i also Got the Shock of my life when I found out..
All my life thinking he was black.. Beautiful voice..
God Bless you All & stay safe
This is a R&B classic!
We all did the same thing the first time we saw Bobby. I was expecting Someone who looked like Barry White.
This is one of the reasons why I love “The Voice.” Maybe people don’t mean to do it and certainly not in a bad way, but we do judge people by the way they look. I’ve seen some people open their voice to sing and I’ve been blown away! There’s been a number of people on the reaction videos that I’ve seen and I thought all my life they were black. Then again, I’ve watched reactors react to seeing the Bee Gees for the first time and they swore that the were black. Just goes to show ya!!!
Yes!! Another example- people are always shocked that fat people have talent and can sing. Never ever judge that book by its cover! Talent comes in every shape and color.
This reaction is so Hilarious…..”hold up, is that Bobby?”
R.I.P Bobby 💯🖤
Bobby Caldwell was one of the few white artists they would play on KBLX, a historic black radio station here in the Bay. I, too, thought he was black for decades. He been got his BBQ invitation.
RIP Bobby Caldwell ♥️
Just like Teena Marie we loved her and we love Bobby Caldwell see yall looks can be deceiving but they are both wonderful artist continue to rest well Teena and Bobby I hold you in my prayers
@1:50 "Hold up....Is that Bobby?" That had me laughing! Love it!
Ok, I spit my drink out at the 1:40 mark when yall realized that Bobby was white!!! EPIC!! I had the same reaction when I was at a concert in 2000 when he opened for Jill Scott. He walked out on the stage and I was like, "Who is that, where is Bobby?" So yeah yall are not alone.
That’s that blue eyed soul baby ✊🏻😂😂😂
Guilty as charged. I was blown away to see who Bobby C is.
WOW!!!
I heard that he won a Grammy for best new black R&B artist in like 1978! Lol
Y'all thought it was gonna be a brother huh? He is the smoothest R&B white man that's ever been🙂
Mel’s reaction at 1:40 is PRICELESS!
Yes, it was
Proof that a person of any race can sing any genre of music and sing it well.
My black friends reacted to this song kind of like how I reacted to 'Cult Of Personality' by Living Colour.
Clearly amazing! When we know the styles of music that rocked his childhood we can understand.
And I sincerely think that influence plays a big role.
Mel, I learned earlier this year that Bobby Caldwell was white and I've loved this song all my life! You are not alone. lol
He cracked the color barrier. Love and peace.
The look on their faces when Bobby emerged from the shadows!🤣🤣🤣
He's just a soul brother with a blessed voice👍💯
Soul has no color. No worries, many people thought Bobby was black. Gotta give Bobby his due; I don't think anyone else could sing it better. One of my favorite songs. :-)
My problem with the song all these years is that it didn’t last long enough. Still makes me have goose bumps when I hear it. 😁 🔥
2:17 the reaction is priceless 😂
Great tune!
He also wrote and sung the original version of "Heart of Mine" that was later recorded by Boz Scaggs.
I love Bobby's version.....probably more than the Boz Scaggs version!!! Bobby's CD with the song is great from start to finish!!! Bobby also wrote "Next Time I Fall" (Peter Cetera with Amy Grant)!!! Again, Bobby's version is incredible!!!
Bobby c is not only invited to the cookout, he seasoned and slow smoked the ribs and brisket.
There are people in every race with soul. Blue-eyed soul. 💙
In the late ending after he stop signing in the instrumentals you really really hear how loaded this tune is, layers on top of layers loaded so much it just draws you in..👍🏽
I love this song. When I first heard this son back in the 70s, I thought Bobby Caldwell was black.
Whaat! Bobby Caldwell! May 2024 still viable...Great music.
If People would stop focusing on color and focusing on the beauty of how talented people are . We can appreciate the talent of people who enlighten our life. Peace and love to you and yours !
Awesome track indeed, and that bassline is smooth as hell.
That baseline reminds me a bit of EW&F
Whoever suggested the video start with Bobby in shadows is genius 🎶🎵
My father (a working musician for a million years) said the only qualifications he had for a singer (or band member) in his band, was if they were good, not the color of their skin 💚
Rest in PEACE BOBBY CADWELL 🙏🛐✝️🛐🕊️🙌.
My grandmother is 76 she didn't know he was white. Speaks volumes
Of ALL the Bobby Caldwell reaction videos - and there are a plethora - this is my fave. He reacts first and stops jammin. Then she reacts when Bobby steps out of the shadows and she stops groovin and just freezes. Love it. Minute 2:18 kills it - at the close up. It's like they didn't REALLY believe it until the tight shot on his face. Like, maybe he light skin. Hahahahaha! Nope. Shout out to Bobby who wrote this classic hit in a minute. And we're still jammin' 40 years later at the barbeque. He's 71 years old now and though he's well known in the US for this song, he's a legend in Japan.
And Mr Bobby still sings that song to this day. One of my favorite favorite favorites to listen to at night. ✌️
I'm glad that yous liked 👍 Mr Caldwell and didn't judge him and still danced in your chairs, and moved to the groove and his voice. He came out when music was still good and meant something 😌 😊
This song is beautiful, born in 67, this is the best part of childhood memories !!!!
One of the greatest R&B songs ever written. Bobby actually has a lot of hits, and he wrote a ton of songs for other successful musicians too...
Timeless. This will still be playing on broadcast airwaves hundreds of years from now.
This is the time I've ever heard this
Song and I am blown away of how beautiful this song is. This is now my new favorite track. Just found out he passed on my birthday. I'll be playing your song every year from now on to celebrate your life brotha. RIP.
Soul is soul, no matter the color of your skin.
Yes, that's Bobby! Not only singing the song... He Wrote It, In Two Days, at the request of his producer in 1978...
I've always known he was white, and yes, I'm white. That song came out in spring 1979, when I was graduating from high school. Oh, and by the way, ma'am, please keep singing!
That’s why it’s called “Soul Music” … it’s the soul that matters…
Don’t you love surprises. He sang that 🎵 song 🎶.🥰🔥🔥🔥
The look on their face when the realization settles in is priceless.
I love how when the initial shock settles down, every reactor starts grooving again. ...because in the end, does it really matter what color anyone is... good is good, great is even better!
Im white and i thought the same thing but no matter the color of your skin love has no color and when youre singing it really music does bring us all together we all have soul and love and groove, and funk ❤
May Bobby Rest in Peace.❤
Besides lead vocals on this tune, he also played keys and bass guitar on it. RIP Bobby Caldwell
Wow, the bass is perfectly in the pocket.
Rest Well Bobby ,.. 🙏 Thank you ,.. will Always Love Your Music ! 🎶 🌟
I bought his album and the record company deliberately only used a silhouette on the cover so when he turned up on American Bandstand jaws dropped. It was funny
“Is that Bobby” my cheerios just came out my nose lol.
If you love Bobby ya gotta do George Benson “On Broadway”!!!
And Give Me the Night on roller skates!
Imagine my shock when, thinking George Benson sang this song, finding out it was Bobby Caldwell. Then finding out he was white😳. Not gonna lie, it shook my whole childhood and I had to recalibrate. After the shock wore off (it took a while), I came to love his talent even more. Mr. Caldwell even responded to one of my tweets. One of the best days of my life!!!🥰
I seem to remember that they released this as a red, heart-shaped 45 RPM, and released it to coincide with Valentine's Day
I remember when I used to assume Bobby Caldwell looked more like James Ingram than Kid Rock. I love when others have the same reaction when they find out.
Back in the day i didn't care at all what color he was but it was 200% all about his music !!!!! Brings back so so many memories !!!!!
Hi guys. I love your sense of humor and am really enjoying this ride. You are both so sweet and cool!! 😃♥️
Yes but like others they talk way too much throut the songs!
Yelp!
I thought this was Earth, Wind and Fire when I first heard this😜
Another blue eyed soul singer. Bobby was just great.
That blue eyed soul hit them and they didn't know what to do!!!!
Rest in glory Bobby. Thanks for the coolest tune EVER
Check out the live video from Miami 1978
Master P owes EVERYTHING HE HAS TO USING THIS MELODY.
Today 3/21/24 and i was 14 yrs old when this song came out and hearing it through out my life, i would have never ever thought this man was caucasian. Like they say your never to old to learn something new.....Great Song !
You need to react to Boz Scaggs " Lowdown " ❤️❤️
Bobby gets em every time. 😂 He definitely got me the first time I finally saw what he looked like. There were no music videos on tv when this came out and few people really knew what he looked like initially since his face wasn't on his album.
RIP Bobby Caldwell March 14,2023
This never gets old....
so we add Bobby to my post on your KC video. I guess I never questioned if a singer was white or black by the way they sound, it didn't really matter. But it blows my mind and cracks me up when reactors see these singers and they're not what they were expecting. Mel don't say you feel ignorant about not knowing, everyone grew up differently so unless you were watching American Bandstand in the 70s' you wouldn't have seen most of these artists. But you're both experiencing these wonderful artists now is what's important.
