Good Boys is a self-aware example. Cuties, however, doesn’t count because it’s rated U in France (all ages) where it was made even if it got an NC-17 in the US. France didn’t have a problem with the film and they actually liked it. And speaking of an NC-17 film, the anime Perfect Blue got it. I don’t know why the MPAA decided to give Perfect Blue an NC-17 when it is tame compared to Black Swan, which is pretty much a live action remake of it. I am also laughing at how A Serbian Film had to be censored to get an NC-17 rating and that the uncut version is unrated.
@@HydraSpectre1138 I have researched the French rating system and I feel this is something we should talk about more than the MPAA to be honest. There are many films that are sexual and violent that do get 'U' ratings in France. My assumption is that the French culture is more liberal, mature, strong, independent, shameless, and unique. Something that the US may sadly not match, but that is fine. Cultures are cultures. It is also a good thing that the French rating system is also understandable as us, and sometimes questionable. Tous publics (U): Breakfast Club, Harry Potter, American Pie 12+: Sleepy Hollow, Pulp Fiction, Carrie (both versions) 16+: Perfect Blue, Reservoir Dogs, From Dusk Till Dawn, Dawn of the Dead (both versions), Requiem For A Dream, Fight Club, etc. 18+: Serbian Film I kind of believe that France is stronger than any other country as far as I am aware.
@@readerofmanga I would actually say the French rating system is wrong with Cuties since it was pretty much CP. Then again, sensible countries would have banned the film outright. But only Turkey has done that.
One aspect of censorship with children’s media and why it tends to contradict itself is due to the creators trying to avoid kids from copying things in real life that they see in the show. It mostly focuses on avoiding things that children could potentially recreate. Weirdly enough, more graphic and horrifying stuff (like Watership Down) may have gotten a pass BECAUSE it was so gruesome that most kids would be assumed to never deal with things of that nature in real life. Like, a kid can see a Loony Tunes character get crushed by an anvil or a Disney Villain turn into dust, but the creator might avoid stuff like guns or knives because those are objects that a kid might actually find and potentially use. The chances of a kid encountering a slapstick comedy scenario in real life is pretty low, but a kid finding an actual weapon and mistaking it for a toy is far too common in the US. This is also why in a lot of shows you could have villains plotting to kill the main characters every day but still have everyone wear their seatbelts. I mean, a lot of this censorship is pretty dumb, and the Hayes Code was one long winded excuse to perpetuate bigotry, but this is kind of where it stemmed from.
I'm glad for the few content creators who decide to cover topics which we've always found interesting despite how boring it may seem. Also, dammit. I laughed at you citing Ordinal Scale.
I still can’t get over that Watershipdown is rated U while a lot of Pokemon movies are PG. One has death, blood, violence, dark scenes of suffocating rabbits and incredibly brutal, the other has a little genie that makes portals while saying “Mighty Hoopa ring” over and over. One of these things is not like the other
Because at the time there were only three age ratings in the UK: U (kids), A (adults), and X (pornographic material). Nowadays we have U (kids), PG (older kids) 12 (kids/teens/adults) 15 (teens/adults) and 18 (adults and older teens). There's also R18 which is for pornographic films and Uc which is for toddlers.
@Flybreaker Footage It is also rated 'U' in France, Italy, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Brazil. I want to know how children in those countries feel about Watership Down. Based on my research and what I currently assume, French children can watch anything. If you notice this certificate 'Tous publics', you may find most films with this certificate.
Watership Down is rated 6+ in Germany. In Indonesia I think, at least according to iMDB (I am from Indonesian and almost no one here knows what Watership Down even is), it got an "adults" rating.
The fact that you're able to take a subject sa mundane as rating systems and turn it into 15 minute video with me laughing my ass off with hardly a dull moment really goes to show just how good you are at this Adam. --also why you lookin like a snacc doe--
I saw scenes from the movie 9 back like 10 years ago when I was a kid and have been searching for the name for years with the term “paper snake” and I could never find it, thank you so much for including that 2 second snippet as I have found the movie I have been searching for.
As an Australian I’ve always realised with video games specifically that If there is the slightest of blood it is instantly MA 15+ when some games have literal disembodied parts of animals or humans but have no blood so they are M and this is the same with swearing in video games as well
Here in the United States, we actually have _another_ rating system for TV shows. It goes Y, Y7, G, PG, 14, and MA. It's basically the MPA rating system, but with extra tags for child-oriented content (Y for children of all ages, Y7 for children 7 and up), and no distinction between R and NC-17.
Well it seems there is a distinction between R and NC-17 now! Kind of. You see I found out hentai companies a slapping a TV-MA on their blu-ray and claiming censored version is TV-MA and the uncensored version is 18+ only! It seems someone to the "TV-MA is 17+" part to literally! Also I'm confused on how the German ratings compare. You see in the US Interspecies Reviewers was released under a hentai label but in Germany it was rated FSK 18 so does that mean they aren't rated the same? Because FSK 18 is allowed on streaming in Germany whereas even the streaming version was censored to TV-MA. Also Australia does have an X-18+ (as mention in the video) and it was banned over there. However also as mentioned in the video the censored version was MA-15+
Damn Diamondbolt lookin mighty fine in that outfit! But in all honesty I love the research tidbits that you had in the beginning. I was not aware of some the stuff you mentioned and it genuinely made me want to look it up. Truly Diamondbolt a man of class!
There were moments I took issue with what you said in this video. Granted, I can no longer remember what they were. And mainly it was an awesome video. And then you hit me with the Metallic Madness at the end. Subscribed.
@the hevy Double Standards, like you couldn’t have people die in Teen Titans, but you could have an entire series based around death just because it’s comedic?
Ok, showing a clip of the ”usual suspects”, and putting ”the predator” has to be some of the funniest barely noticable comedy i have seen in a long time. Well done.
Age Doesn’t Matter, Maturity Does & Fun Fact: Gremlins was mean’t to be PG-13 Rated to correct that procedure but ran to a PG Rating in it’s own start. so it would’ve been PG-13 Rated Today.
As a parent, a classification based on target demographic or capability to understand would be very useful, I have a 3 years old and I like to watch movies and shows together with him, but sometimes the cartoons are boring for his age, and before watching I can only know if its "morally acceptable for children", when I actually want to know if its colourful, if its boring, dialogue heavy, has a complex plot, or even if some prior knowledge is needed (like if its based in some fairy tail or folklore and its pointless for who doesnt know the base material) those kinds of useful things, but of course politicians care not to if something is detrimental to the people and should be replaced for something actually useful

Tous publics (U): Breakfast Club, Harry Potter, American Pie
12+: Sleepy Hollow, Pulp Fiction, Carrie (both versions)
16+: Perfect Blue, Reservoir Dogs, From Dusk Till Dawn, Dawn of the Dead (both versions), Requiem For A Dream, Fight Club, etc.
18+: Serbian Film
I kind of believe that France is stronger than any other country as far as I am aware.
@@readerofmanga I would actually say the French rating system is wrong with Cuties since it was pretty much CP.
Then again, sensible countries would have banned the film outright. But only Turkey has done that.
Made in Abyss: *sweats nervously*
12:40 now that’s kid friendly 👍
I love how he just changes each movie title to another movie
The Goosebumps TV show with an M rating actually fits
the intro always scared me as a kid
@Andrew Simpson good question
@Andrew Simpson it’s not I checked. (I know it’s a joke lol)
M means so many different things
M:teens in Australia
M:17+ in America for video games
M:18+ in America for manga
"Non-stop ninja action" made me spit my drink.
One of these things is not like the other
Watership Down is PG in the UK I think.
Watership Down got re-rated from a U to a PG in the UK recently.
The fact that you're able to take a subject sa mundane as rating systems and turn it into 15 minute video with me laughing my ass off with hardly a dull moment really goes to show just how good you are at this Adam.

@@DiamondBolt where you get that suit
I saw scenes from the movie 9 back like 10 years ago when I was a kid and have been searching for the name for years with the term “paper snake” and I could never find it, thank you so much for including that 2 second snippet as I have found the movie I have been searching for.
I feel like the text at the bottom left just gave up and named everything whatever it wanted.
Just like the ratings systems

As an Australian I’ve always realised with video games specifically that If there is the slightest of blood it is instantly MA 15+ when some games have literal disembodied parts of animals or humans but have no blood so they are M and this is the same with swearing in video games as well
Not quite, many ace attorney games got away with PG or M, and they are literally about murder!
I hate conservative governments
I love the joke that some of the movies/games aren’t even that game/movies name. Keep up the small lovable details DiamondBolt And have a good day
Here in the United States, we actually have _another_ rating system for TV shows.
That MW2/Mario Party 8 joke had me laying on the floor, cracking against my will for a minute and a half straight.

The more I binge your channel the quicker you are becoming one of my favourite UA-camrs. Amazing job bro, keep up the great work!
When I hear someone talk about rating systems all I can think of is
"Rated E for everyone" and "PEGI 12"

I remember that mini game in Mario Party 9. It’s the one where you play as Mario and you have to shoot up as many Toads with a gun.
There were moments I took issue with what you said in this video. Granted, I can no longer remember what they were. And mainly it was an awesome video. And then you hit me with the Metallic Madness at the end. Subscribed.
I rediscover this channel every so often. Always excited to catch up on some laughs:)

Woah suit and tie for this one very professional
The video is very well made . I got say you have good sense of art.
Kudos !
I still remember the original Teen titans cartoon had to call Deathstroke Slade because Deathstroke was too scary
@the hevy Double Standards, like you couldn’t have people die in Teen Titans, but you could have an entire series based around death just because it’s comedic?
