@@chair803 The reason of why it bombed it's because the movie made only 42 million dollars from a 65 million dollar budget. This failure bankrupted IMAGI Studios, and shut down their US Studio in 2010. Also Astroboy is based on the manga comics by Osamu Tezuka (the Walt Disney from Japan!), but the film is so good for me tbh
Fun fact: The original finale for "The Thing 2011" would've had the spaceship being filled with dead bodies of aliens called "Pilots" (if you ever wondered what that weird pixel machine effect was there for, it was to cover up one of tge bodies smh) It would've suggested that these Pilot were transporting the thing until it escaped and caused the ship to crash in the arctic. It would've served the same way the norwegian camp scene served the original movie The thing would've taken the form of one of the pilots to fight the last two survivors
Another example would be the movie daredevil, it came out as a “romance” movie, but the movie was suppose to be completely different, it included a side plot about Matt and foggy trying to prove the innocence of a man colioo plays that gets tied into the main plot. It also shows the struggles Matt has of being daredevil and Matt Murdock too. and foggy is more of a friend to Matt than he was in the theatrical cut. Oh, and Matt doesn’t let a mugging go un-attended to bang elektra like he did in the theatrical cut, in the director’s cut he actually leaves her on the roof and goes to that mugging to beat the crook up. And in the DC, the priest didn’t know about Matt being daredevil until Matt went to the church injured by bullseye. The director’s cut is a COMPLETELY different film from the theatrical cut.
Fun fact: Corporate people ruined Illumination's The Lorax. Instead of getting a dark movie exploring the themes based upon Seuss's original story focusing on the Onceler becoming a villain (as well as the character having the best villain song "Biggering" that is up there with Disney's Hellfire), we got a shit adaptation that is a slap in the face to the original source material. @@brucenatelee Yeah, feels like they think a movie where it allowed the audience to use their imaginations and letting the visurals tell the story and features a sad and tragic ending will make the film bomb because they think we're complete idiots, like they think we're stupid and we only watch these for the big stars, jokes and seeing the heroes win at the end and therefore it makes them the most money. Harvey Weinstein is a true example of an executive with this mindset.
Yeah, with the 2011 film The Thing, it really feels like it came down to the studios wanting all movies nowadays to use CGI as a way to be more 'modern' than using practical effects which in their eyes would make the film feel 'dated'.
Yeah, kinda sucks that those test audiences just want the film to end like every other movie when really not every story has to have a happy ending. In fact the third story mission about the Children of Echos from Genshin Impact actually has one part in it which actually reminded me of what happened with Little Shop of Horrors, and that's with a story that's popular with the tribe. And believe me, this isn't the first time the game featured a character quest where the felt like it was a commentary of common hated Hollywood happenings.
One fact I remember about test audiences is that because of them the directors nearly cut out "part of your world" fron the little mermaid and... Well let's just say I'm happy we don't live in that universe

Avatar 2 is in my opinion a great example of this. It’s obvious watching the film that, for me, it’s biggest issue is the fact that in the middle hour when they are swimming around fucking nothing happens. If the studio had said cut this movie down to 120-150 mins then the movie would have been much better
Being a recent watcher of Once Upon a Time in America (literally last week), the almost 4 hour cut to be specific, I've come to appreciate longer movies much more than shorter ones. It just feels like the director had absolute control to tell the story they wanted to tell, with less compromises than a standard 2 hour picture.
Here’s another example of test audiences changing things: The 2000 film Thomas and The Magic Railroad was originally meant to feature a human villain named P.T. Boomer, who would be the driving force behind the hunt for the magical locomotive Lady, but test audiences claimed he was too scary, so he was cut

Yes, Event Horizon is awesome. Apparently, the deleted scenes genuinely got found in an abandoned salt mine in Transylvania but they were too damaged to be used for a director’s cut.
fun fact: We do know the original john Wick movie was much longer because the first half of the movie was John and the Doggy just being happy together... Meaning that maybe in the future we might get John Wick Director´s Cut with ALL THE FOOTAGE...

i absolutely love Cressida Cowell's how to train your dragon series , and when i found out that the movies were actually books in year 4 i freaked out-I only finished the series in year 5 (I'm, in year 9 now)
The original ending of I Am Legend is also more in-line with the ending of the book. (Spoilers for a fifty-year-old book). Neville starts the book terrorized by the infected, who don't seem all that intelligent and just seem focused on his extermination. After a time, though, Neville is able to adapt and starts killing the vampires, diminishing their population to the point that they don't attack him with the frequency they used to. Near the end of the book, though, the vampires have become smart and organized enough that they've made their own new society, and Neville is more or less branded a war criminal who they then capture and sentence to death.
It’s interesting when you think about other I Am Legend adaptations because there always seems to be some major differences, such as in the Omega Man. In Omega Man the vampires (which aren’t really vampires here, but more so intelligent zombie cultists) are blatantly evil rather than being victims of Neville.
Wait a minute, I watch the blu ray extra’s for toy Story. In it Pixar put the blame for the “Black Friday” cut squarely on Disney as they didn’t think toy story was “dark enough” and kept asking Pixar to make it darker. So they basically went super over board so that disney would stop trying to interfere and let them make the movie they wanted to make.
im gonna try and do my research on studios if i ever decide to work at these bigger companies, the last thing I want are great concepts ripped away by studio executives or poor opinions.
In Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, there's supposed to be a battle against Optimus Prime & Transit. In my opinion, the scene is amazing! It was shown to Test Audience & they rejected it. They said it's too dark for kids, even tho it's a Pg-13 movie... like why?
+ Across & Beyond the spiderverse was supposed to be combined together & orginally a 5 HOUR movie, Sony decided to split the movie into a 2 part movie series, which In my opinion is thank god! There's no way I'll watch a 5 hour animated spiderman movie
Great video and that's cool you included some positive examples, too. You mentioned Fant4stic and yes, studio did interfere in the creative process, but Josh Trank isn't a great director either and his ideas were kinda shit. Also, I really recommend you (or anyone reading this comment) watching Once Upon a Time in America. These almost 4 hours may seem tough, but it's really a great movie, maybe the best out of everything you've mentioned here
I think a good recent example of when a studio should have interfered was with Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead cause Netflix basically let him do whatever he wanted, and it did not turn out good.
fascinating stuff, and idk what studios or test audiences are thinking sometimes, but its like polling rando's and sharing those results on the new and saying "this many people think this or do these things" based on that test group but claiming the general populus is like that
Studio-Intereference is BIG nowadays and you wouldnt believe how harmful it is, but lucky You: Thats covered in the new Union-Video by 'Some More News' while his older video called Popcorn-Dystopia deals with this plus countless issues !!
Oh Diamond, there's actually 5 home alone movies with a sixth scheduled for december this year. I'd love to see you rip into them if you can get any good material from those, actually.
Fun fact the event horizon deleted scenes don't exist anymore the reels with all the leading goal were taken away from the scene and put into a salt mine in Transylvania
0:28 Zach Snyder’s justice league was actually tainted by Warner bros to remove green lantern. Zach Snyder wanted green lantern but they made Martian manhunter instead meaning that the Snyder cut isn’t a full director cut.
I need to do more research on it, but I feel like this may have happened to the Percg Jackson movie. They turned an incredible, humorous, episodic book into a boring fetch quest while also cutting 90% of everything including the climactic final battle. (So yeah the ending was kinda scuffed as well)

The how to train your dragon movies are definitely incredibly different from the movies, but I do really think they benefit from that as the movies have this new vast world that I honestly prefer greatly to the books
One movie that has been ruined by test audiences was Disney's The Black Cauldron. The film was going to be PG-13 with blood, gore and even nudity. Unfortunately, test audiences thought it was going to be a kids' Disney movie so they butchered the film at the very last minute. The final cut was blatantly cut and it was still dark for Disney standards, but I would really love an Unrated cut on Disney+. The cut scenes probably still exist and they were fully animated. A VHS of the uncut workprint of Event Horizon was found and I am still mad that Shout! Factory didn't include that VHS copy as a bonus on the Blu-ray. Shout! Factory often includes lower-quality alternate cuts alongside the remastered versions of the films in their Collector's Editions. They included the Original Blu-ray Release Colour Timing (from the earliest Blu-ray release), the TV cut and an Extended Edition splicing in the TV Version's exclusive footage to the uncensored theatrical version. They also included the TV cut of Halloween II, the TV cut of Army of Darkness, and the LaserDisc version of Perfect Blue.
Imagine avoiding spoilers to see a movie only for it spoiler the plot anyways

See this is why we never got a fast and furious 92:I drive cars but I actually don't know how
Woody was going to be a villain? Damn, I can't believe we missed out on so many spooky catchphrases like "there's a snake in your boot" and some other stuff.
"And these, I don't know what to do with, because I don't have any jars around"
ADAM NO
Yes, Event Horizon is awesome. Apparently, the deleted scenes genuinely got found in an abandoned salt mine in Transylvania but they were too damaged to be used for a director’s cut.
fun fact:
We do know the original john Wick movie was much longer because the first half of the movie was John and the Doggy just being happy together...
Meaning that maybe in the future we might get John Wick Director´s Cut with ALL THE FOOTAGE...
Studio-Intereference is BIG nowadays and you wouldnt believe how harmful it is, but lucky You: Thats covered in the new Union-Video by 'Some More News' while his video Popcorn-Dystopia deals with this plus countless issues and the entirety of 'Change' of how we perceive movies and hollywood
The I am Legend cut ending doesn't feel that confusing to figure, how did audiences miss it twice?
Thomas and the Magic Railroad Director's Cut has entered the chat.
i absolutely love Cressida Cowell's how to train your dragon series , and when i found out that the movies were actually books in year 4 i freaked out-I only finished the series in year 5 (I'm, in year 9 now)
Basically “Bad movies that turned out to be good later”
Incredibles 2 lost an entire year of production because Pixar needed something to come out in 2018 after Toy Story 4 got delayed.
And Toy Story 4 arguably could have gone without that extra year of production.
"Wait there's a third one?" Yes, and so are four and five, but we don't talk about them.
That I'm legend alternative ending seems really good tho, instead we get a so-so and cliche ending
Wait a minute, I watch the blu ray extra’s for toy
Story. In it Pixar put the blame for the “Black Friday” cut squarely on Disney as they didn’t think toy story was “dark enough” and kept asking Pixar to make it darker. So they basically went super over board so that disney would stop trying to interfere and let them make the movie they wanted to make.
Really, for i read, online that disney didn’t want this to be dark, lol.
im gonna try and do my research on studios if i ever decide to work at these bigger companies, the last thing I want are great concepts ripped away by studio executives or poor opinions.
These almost 4 hours may seem tough, but it's really a great movie, maybe the best out of everything you've mentioned here
I will definitely get around to it when I can free up four hours haha
I think a good recent example of when a studio should have interfered was with Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead cause Netflix basically let him do whatever he wanted, and it did not turn out good.
Me: big sad
Diamondbolt: * uploads *
My sadness: *Understandable have a nice day*
It's funny how nearly every sequel to the Thing reveals that neither of the characters' were infected
There are no sequels
I want to add walking with dinosaurs (2016) cinamatic cut , where they added voice acting to the main 4 characters and not let the Shut up
I like how I was watching a DC video when I got the notification for this. Perfect timing, huh?
FYI PEOPLE!!!There is a dvd of “I am legend” that has the alternative ending edited in to the movie on the bonus disc. Only version I have seen ❤
What the hell why was the "I wonder why that might be" line really fucking seductive
Thanks for making these amazing videos Dimondbolt. Keep the bangers coming
Hold up ponies “I don’t know what to do with theses because I don’t have any jars around” me 0_0
Why did Diamondbolt receive those?
fascinating stuff, and idk what studios or test audiences are thinking sometimes, but its like polling rando's and sharing those results on the new and saying "this many people think this or do these things" based on that test group but claiming the general populus is like that

!!
Oh Diamond, there's actually 5 home alone movies with a sixth scheduled for december this year. I'd love to see you rip into them if you can get any good material from those, actually.
Dear god...
14:13 Diamondbolt suffering from success
I need to do more research on it, but I feel like this may have happened to the Percg Jackson movie. They turned an incredible, humorous, episodic book into a boring fetch quest while also cutting 90% of everything including the climactic final battle. (So yeah the ending was kinda scuffed as well)
Toothless in the books isn't an asshole he's a cat a menace to society and the embodiment of becoming a hero the hard way
Goddamnit the original I Am Legend ending seemed so cool for fuck’s sake
9:10 all it took was a death to have a good movie 🤯

Man, I still want an actual adaptation of the How to Train Your Dragon books so badly, man...
The original how to train your dragon books are a MASTERPIECE and nothing anybody says will change my mind
