    Curious, as marking knives go - how much do you care about the bevel?

    • @therwf2079
      @therwf2079 9 днів тому +1

      Sharpener single edge bevel. Only problem or advantage, you'll have to get one for right hand and one left. Just tell the wife it's essential tool you can go with out.

      @therwf2079 these are both for the right hand dude 👍

    Great use of the space you have. And there’s nothing better than a clean space to work in. 👍

      @Davidcarroll38 you’re not wrong there mate, way more that I thought they’d be! As it is they’re not financially viable for me to do, maybe someone with all the right kit makes the tang 🤷🏻‍♂️

    a tip, when you drill holes through that kind a metal use a low speed, this way they don't burn or melt and slow and steady means in this case way faster. i make darts marking knives from saw blades and i use slow speed but more torque, and a spindel sander saves you loads of time a simple one in a drill stand is allready enough
    nice blades like the shape

    • @HewAndAwe
      @HewAndAwe  9 днів тому

      The drill bits the blue ones I used, they require the speed they were run at according to Bosch I think it was 1000rpm or roundabout. The original bit you saw that was missing its tip was run in a hand held drill for putting in screw the kinda speed I’d run in a flat head screw.

    Time for a new band saw me thinks! 🤔

    • @HewAndAwe
      @HewAndAwe  10 днів тому +2

      For metal you mean or?

    • @frenchgreguk
      @frenchgreguk 9 днів тому +2

      @HewAndAwe I meant a metal hand held one, like the makita o milwaukee one as you were using the grinder for ages to cut the rough shape of those beautiful blades you were making. Then I saw the actual band still band saw from Axminster I think, and I thought shit, he is gonna think i am a prick 😆

    • @HewAndAwe
      @HewAndAwe  9 днів тому +2

      @frenchgreguk sorry dude I’m not in the best of ways at the minute, just lost a friend.. I don’t follow and that could be all down to me dude. I’ve never had any success cutting metal with a jig saw, takes years to do. A band saw that cuts metal would be nice, what I have is to fast for metal and no way to slow it down. I’d love a separate metal workshop!!! 🖖

    Might have helped the sharpening to anneal the steel first, then just temper the end once you'd established the bevel? I think that's the normal knife makers do it. Stronger tool too.

    • @HewAndAwe
      @HewAndAwe  9 днів тому +1

      Yeah did consider that but wasn’t really simple to do in the current workshop plus there’s a risk of getting it wrong as someone who doesn’t work with metal I passed.

      @@HewAndAwe Fair enough I shy away from metal work a lot. Fun project and unique design anyway.
