I loved it Ben. You and Josh seem to click well and bounce off each other. Be interesting to see what the future holds. Exciting times ahead. Josh will have a different set of skills but so do you. Go forth as equals and don't argue over biscuits! Much love motherlovers x
Two blokes, a lifetime of different skills and experiences, a workshop full of big tools and lots of witty banter......seems like a recipe for hilarious success to me. Keep up the good work👍
Haha yeah man, yeah, I hadn’t thought of that, nice one that’s got my creative mind going!!! I hope you’re well David, hope you’re having a lovely weekend mate 🍻🍻🍻
Personally I absolutely enjoyed every moment of this video and yes it would have been cool to see the part that got corrupted but shit happens, man and I get that. Also I agree with the person's previous comment. Do whatever you want. You're the creator and it's your channel. I'm just here to enjoy watching whatever you are sharing. Thank you so very much.
A smart man knows everything, a wise man realises the more he learns, the less he knows. I think this partnership will be great for you mate. Like everything new it will take adjustment but you'll find your groove. Those are some *solid* mutha goating gates!
Ben, life is learning and you’re not living if you stop. Just keep it up. And huge props to Josh for wanting to share not only with you but the world, all his knowledge.
I for one am pleased you're still out there for us, your subscribers. I admire your honesty, love your humour and the content is spot on. keep on keeping on
Thank you mate!!! It’s been nice to escape my head and get back to some form, 6:30 starts organised etc etc puts the head in a better place!! I hope you’re well mate!!! 🍻🍻🍻
I think you are embracing a great opportunity. I wish you both good luck. And I really look forward to seeing what you guys will do in the future. Seeing a dirty shop and not a youtube woodworking film studio is great imho. Cheers and thanks for sharing.
Here's a perspective from a younger point of view... Looks like you've got it all sorted out! This vid alone was just fantastic platinum, and working with Josh seems like a good business move in my eyes, believe me, I could never have known that you two where tinkering like this inside that workshop to make this video! Hats off to ya, this is great! P.S. Hi Ben! It's me Owen! A.K.A Josh's son! 👋😆
This has to be the coolest comment I’ve ever had!!! Man, this warmed me up, made me smile, and most importantly confirmed “we got this!” I appreciate this dude!!! Thanks for taking the time to say this 🍻☺️🍻
There's now 2 guys that I can learn from, what's not to like? On top of that, its entertaining. Brilliant result. Keep it going guys, its shaping up to be the best channel on UA-cam.
Ben, i was minutes into this video, when the chuckle brothers appeared.....f**king brilliant!! My initial reaction was "what a double act" but as it progressed, that changed to "what a team". You guys appear to be made to work collaboratively, and as a bloke with 24 years in the military, you can see when a team gel together, because they do nowt but take the piss out of each other, whilst maintaining a huge degree of respect at the same time. and that Sir, is what your closing comments showed, I for one loved this, the banter, the mutual respect , the skills on show, and quality of what you both produced together, was simply magnificent. I salute you and Mr Joshua.
It's interesting to watch you two together with different approaches to woodworking. You'll find your stride and make funny and watchable content. Joiners seem to make big stuff using big machine cut joinery. You could bring more refinement as a furniture making with smaller more delicate, hand cut joinery. The contrast would be a selling point for the videos.
I was a joiner 27 years ago. Recession late 90's shut down many workshops. Left the trade and miss it.... The man who taught me was Bert 76, he was a true craftsman. keep the vids coming please.
LMAO! That thumbnail really got me! I thought OH SHIT INDEED! then watching the gates close with the correct diagonal bracing ... Phew! Good one guys. On a side note. A big thank you sir! Looking forward to videos from both of you, it is nice to see the mix of your skills. when i first saw you i told you you sounded sad, well i was wrong loved your response though that made me smile. but it seems you two are match made in heaven, so go for it it is rear to find a good friend on a later age that has the same interest and it is not from ....look what i have or i am better than you. you must follow your own instinct and do what you wanted to do. and this way you make great videos and i learn from you two along the way , i am an old veteran living up in the mountains of norway fighting through past horrors every day and i enjoy your vids. so keep them coming and screw the world!
Thanks dude, appreciate your words! I’ll be sure to pump more content out then, I can’t imagine what you’re going through to put any sort of comfort in as it’d be just words. I’m just gonna say chin up bud 🖖
Really enjoy the banter. Really appreciate capturing Josh doing the marking out and imparting those tips. Maybe showing how the tools work, handling & safety?
No worries Ben you’re not losing me my friend, I loved watching your channel due to your attitude and I know I’m going to lovel you and Josh’s boys new adventure. As others have said two lads and English banter ( piss taking 👀) what’s not to like 👍 5 dim sum 👌
I’ve really enjoyed this video and really like Mr J. I’ve come at woodworking late in life and it’s a hobby for me so watching pros lay out and explain what they are doing and why is exactly what I look for. It actually helps you not having the same experience as Mr J Ben as you’re asking the questions that I want to hear. More of this please!
Speaking solely for myself and not necessarily for your viewers combined. TBH. It will take a bit of getting used to, this new Hew and Awe obviously it is a bit different. I loved the old channel and all the things that made that channel what it was. Specifically you, your attitude, the cut of your jib, the perfectionism and the skill. Not to mention some of the stories, the picture frame vid was very moving, the what got me started was inspiring, the table saw refurb was awesome. Like I said, the new look will take a bit of getting used to BUT. This vid was good, your outro was very good and showed the loyalty and gratitude you have towards your friend. If only we all had a Josh. I am grateful you didn't just give up, I could see you weren't completely in the game for a while which at times, as a fan, was tough. Most importantly though (and I fully appreciate this means fuck all coming from someone who has less creativity and ability in me than you have in a bead of sweat) regarding 15 years of doing it wrong is not true, you know that, enough said about that so I do not need to elaborate. Where there's a will there's a way, you certainly have the will. Go and take over the woodworking world, you build it we will watch it. Good luck to both of you.
Cheers Alex, what a lovely comment!!! ☺️ I’m gonna mix it up to help with that, I’ll do the odd vid where I just make something too. 👍 speaking of tool refurbishing, we’re currently refurbishing a Wadkin CK a FULL nutshell an bolts refurb!
I really enjoyed this video Ben. Looks to me like you and Josh are going to be very entertaining together, as well as informative and knowledgeable. Looking forward to seeing your cooperative production prosper. I’m amazed you produced those massive gates in under two weeks, you guys work really well together 👍🏻
Wow my friend you're post at the end brought tears to my eyes, I'm also nearly 50 and having similar experience ,it gives me some faith in universe, hearing your post thank you for sharing ,can't wait to see what you both get up to , true blessings come when you last expect them, cheers James
First vid of yours I’ve seen , I’m 60 and been at construction carpentry since before I left school. I learn new things all the time and also have sometimes called into question what I’ve been doing when I meet guys who are experienced and talented .its a process it’s what makes us who we are , be proud and creative . Anyway I’ve just subscribed as I really enjoyed the vid
its great to see this humbling moment in you cause thats kinda how i feel about you buddy. When i watch your work ,makes me feel like i know nothing. all great people look up to someone,or youre not great.
Mr Josh seem a sound bloke, best of luck to you both. Know the feeling of no shop (DIY) just moved, new house, new job, no time, no spear money. Keep the Best show going please.
I say it’s great and the more the merrier! Now I could possibly learn more from two people than just one person so I say do what feels good for you, buddy. I really enjoy your channel.
This was a video I wasn't expecting, I was surprised to see the two of you in a different space . Then the penny dropped ..... If I hadn't watched to the end I would have thought you were a team already. Every days a school day and you will never learn it all good luck guys I look forward to whatever you want to share however you want to do it .... sheep included.
Goat bleat me! Fab video… great rapport… quality documentary of how to make a proper gate… and goat bleating awesome result. Thanks both. Wish I had a space that needs a gate or two and then I’d make one or two just like yours 😂.
Superb joinery video in every respect( here detailing all aspects of construction from start to finish of a large driveway gate). Showing the use of heavy duty machinery in action ( with close up shots of the various milling operations) was really informative. Similarly, hand tool work and manual setting out was both demonstrated explained succinctly. The ‘new joint’ content was not only great to watch but was inspiring too, and gave a wonderful insight into a joinery and furniture making workshop. Looking forward to viewing much more of the same!!!
Great video and a great opportunity for you....both... Interesting to see how the usual "DIY" builds compare to a professionally done one. Obviously a different world in how the machinery compares but equally an opportunity to see how "small workshop" equipment could be used to a similar end. Keep em coming fellas.
Ben, this could well be a winner because as far as I know it's unique. I don't know of any other You Tuber woodworker who works with a partner. A bit like the Mortimer and Whitehouse TV fishing programme, two blokes just doing what they do best. Maybe even a mix of sometimes just you and sometimes both of you. Whatever, I really like it and as somebody else commented you don't even need to change your title name.
Thanks Paul, I’ve not had one bad comment so the future looks good!!! I hear ya to, gonna implement that and see how it goes. Thanks for watching mate, hope you had a great weekend 🍻🍻🍻
Great banter between you two, really enjoyed the format of this Ben. It really adds something and nakes it different from the other bazillion woodworking vids 👌 great work!
Looking forward to your next adventure both of you look super skilled and with the combination of your crafts this colab looks like it's going to be excellent. Sounds like you both god some comedy banter too so keep it up❤
Hag tight dude, this vid was to see what’s what, a few to go and we’ll be all over this as it’s gone down so well!!! Happy days!!! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend Bobby!!! 🍻🍻🍻
Woah thats a proper set of gates 😲 formats all good dude 👌 clever with the thumbnail 😉 surely the title is how to build driveway gates like a pro! Great team work 🙌
Great video Ben. I like your ideas and everyone brings something unique to the table. Mr Joshua has had a different experience to you. You'll find your way. Being a self employed carpenter who only trained 3 years ago I feel your pain and anguish I get that most days. I came from a very different background.
Awesome video loved it , 56 and on my fourth career now and working for myself woodworking and handyman , just made some driveway gates very similar to yours , loved the style of video also , look forward to seeing how it evolves Good luck to you both have fun and enjoy making sawdust
I do that to help keep eyeballs watching in the sense they look for the answer in the vid, not sure that’s a good idea mind you dude, seems peeps have no patience 🤦🏻♂️ thanks for watching dude, I hope you’re having a wicked weekend 🍻🍻🍻
Beautiful joinery and a great video. Kudos to you both for not letting the bastards grind you down. Excited to see what you do next, things are looking up.
Stoked for ya mate. It's all too rare to have some one reach out like Josh has for you. No doubt you'll benefit each other as time goes on. Great dynamic between you both for entertaining videos. Nice traditional set of gates too. Were theg ftted up in Hertfordshire out of interest? I did a lot of work for a couple of big farms up that way - black coat timber against the red brick brought it all back. 👍
Great video I enjoyed it because it shows both your skills . It’s a different world producing one off pieces of furniture when compared with your average joinery workshop. Josh seems to be very good so that’s a good foundation for success producing high quality product. You will not survive if you’re not producing good work- it’s not going to be easy as you learn a new style of working , quick and keeping the quality up. It can be a lot of hours for not a lot of money some weeks so it’s important that you enjoy what you’re doing 😂. You have the skills and sounds like you have the determination so getting the jobs in is where to focus. I reckon u got this so keep it going, the videos where your making every day joinery items are very interesting
Copy that! The hardest part is being set in my ways and being told no do it this way, I’m a stubborn prick, Josh is a little impatient so can be fun, but in the end it’s all good, Josh, knows a lot, I’ve almost become like a child to him and myself asking questions I already know my answer to but want to know his. It seldom happens when I suggest something and he goes yeah that’s a good idea 😂😂😂 onwards and upwards eh!!! Cheers dude, appreciate you taking the time to comment man, and not only that but this comment pepped me up, cheers dude, enjoy the rest of weekend, be lucky 🍻🍻🍻
@40:04 - You're welcome. I saved you forty minutes of time so you can see what the gate looks like after it was completed and installed. The gate looks amazing. For any TikTok folks or people with short attention spans. 70% of the video is building the gate, 30% of the video talking about the work and working together to build the gate and 0% of the video is about how the gate was installed.
Banging video mate. He seems like a decent bastard he can stay 😂😂 cant quite say legend staus yet like yerself but suspect he'll get there. Honestly mate you no what ever you stick out people are gonna piss and moan about something me personally and reckon most your true fomlowers will watch regardless hope your good 👍🏴
No the diagonal brace should run from the corner of the hinge upwards, the idea being it should stop the gate sagging in the middle. Thanks for watching dude 🍻🍻🍻
@@HewAndAwesorry to be a nuisance but on the first picture, where it says “oh-sh?t”, the pair of painted black gates clearly shows the diagonal braces running from the hinge side at the top, down and across to the non hinge side at the bottom. This does not support the gate. For the brace to be effective, it has to support the top horizontal rail at the far end of the rail. This is what stops sagging. Edit. Sorry, just seen the gates at 28.22. (Unpainted). These show the braces the other way round so maybe the first picture has the gates on the wrong side of each other. Nice work by the way.
Hi Guys, Did I miss something what happened with your shop and ended up with you teaming up with Josh as you seemed to have a nice little set up doing what you did ! P.S I think I'd be looking into getting a new thicknesser thats 3 Phase opposed to the single phase machine thats clearly struugling, I have a Minimax S41 Elite with Digital readout great machine for the smaller set up like you and me.
I did cover it in previous vids dude. I’m not that keen for 3 phase myself, you can have a 4 hp motor that’s single phase like you can 3 phase, I don’t really get the fascination. I asked Josh this question and he didn’t give me any answer that sold me 3 phase is the best like some peeps do. And it’s a LOT easier to replace single phase motors where as some old machines your only option is a re-wind and that’s VERY expensive!!!
Great content as usual, what was the uk cost of that redwood, what other wood is good/bad for gates pros/cons - love to attempt what you have done there. Cheech & Chong, love it.
brilliant content, the future is looking very bright. i especially liked the end where josh's nod of approval at a job well done sealed the deal on your team effort
Ahh, man! Teaming up with Josh can only be a good thing! Please don't think that you have waisted 15 years and know nothing. You are an encyclopedia stood next to a f#€ng library. You have the right attitude and will learn huge amounts but you may also teach the library something new. I realise how little i know every time i pick a tool up, but somehow i muddle through and always learn something.
Cheers Stephen, this warmed me up!!! It’s a interesting time, I’d be like I’m gonna do this, Josh is like I wouldn’t go that far with it, but then when its joinery stuff his bag, he goes to the same lengths 😁 99.9% of the time I know what he’s already gonna say, but sometimes when he says something words used I don’t click what he means, and that’s visa versa too, besides all that man it’s good to be working with someone knowledgeable, that keeps my brain learning stuff and me happy!!! Hope you have a lovely evening Stephen!!! 🍻🍻🍻
Very nice work, lovely.. but the bottom five inch missing...?! Too much talking and not measuring..? Or maybe ground not finish.. 🤣🤣🤣🙄 Sorry.. could not help it... 🤦🏽♂😖 Allways nice work!
lol ground not finished but when the gates swing back they hit the level of the ground, we actually lucked out guessing the right height of the gates. Cheers dude, hope you had a wicked weekend dude 🍻🍻🍻
Wondering what you think of this as its different from the vids being just me?
good stuff ! right in with the jokes .. just like the government
@WattWood haha thank you, hope you’re well, thanks for watching 🍻🍻🍻
I loved it Ben. You and Josh seem to click well and bounce off each other. Be interesting to see what the future holds. Exciting times ahead. Josh will have a different set of skills but so do you. Go forth as equals and don't argue over biscuits! Much love motherlovers x

Cheers mate, thanks for watching! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend 🍻🍻🍻
cracking job with the gates amazing joinery skills good look with everything .
Thank you Simon, appreciate this mate! 🍻🍻🍻
Cheers dude appreciate the compliment!! Thanks for watching 🍻🤗🍻
Goat bleat me! Fab video… great rapport… quality documentary of how to make a proper gate… and goat bleating awesome result. Thanks both. Wish I had a space that needs a gate or two and then I’d make one or two just like yours 😂.
Cheers dude, you made me smile!!! Lovely comment mate, hope you’re having a wicked weekend man!!! 🍻🍻🍻
Thank you Jeff! Thank you for watching mate 🍻🍻🍻
Enjoyed the video. Looking forward to the next one. Great new format.
I’m gonna mix it up with the vids see how we fair 👍 thanks for watching dude! 🍻🍻🍻
Great vid, stands out from the crowd
Thanks Mark mate ,and thanks for watching too 🍻🍻🍻
Good video. I'm glad to hear that you are so positive after loosing your previous workshop.
Thank you Tom, thank you for watching too, onwards and upwards eh. Hope you had a wonderful weekend 🍻🍻🍻
Great video and a great opportunity for you....both... Interesting to see how the usual "DIY" builds compare to a professionally done one. Obviously a different world in how the machinery compares but equally an opportunity to see how "small workshop" equipment could be used to a similar end.
Keep em coming fellas.
Cheers dude! Thanks for watching! 🍻🍻🍻
Love the new format!
Cheers dude, thanks for watching mate. 🍻🍻🍻
Amazing build 👏
Cheers Stuart, thanks for watching 🍻🍻🍻
A lovely piece of work. Two knowledgeable blokes. Good banter = New subscriber. All the best.
Thank you Paul, thanks for the compliment mate, appreciate it! Welcome 🍻 🤗 🍻
Great banter between you two, really enjoyed the format of this Ben. It really adds something and nakes it different from the other bazillion woodworking vids 👌 great work!
Cheers dude, that’s good to read coming from you bud, much appreciated mate 🍻🍻🍻 I hope you’re well dude!!
Love it Ben! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Cheers mate, thanks for watching!! 🍻🍻🍻
Looking forward to your next adventure both of you look super skilled and with the combination of your crafts this colab looks like it's going to be excellent. Sounds like you both god some comedy banter too so keep it up❤
Thanks for the compliment, thanks for watching 🍻🍻🍻
The gate is gorgeous and masterfully constructed.
Cheers mate, thanks for watching 🍻🍻🍻
Best wishes for the next chapter. Pleased to make your acquaintance Josh 👍 gates look ‘kin superb

Loved it ! You two seem to be a great fit ! Looking forward to what you both come up with next ! Best of Luck !!
Hag tight dude, this vid was to see what’s what, a few to go and we’ll be all over this as it’s gone down so well!!! Happy days!!! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend Bobby!!! 🍻🍻🍻
i agree with that
Nice one guys, I appreciate your honesty and humility. All the best for both of you, good luck.....
Cheers dude, hope you had a lovely weekend 🍻🍻🍻 thanks for watching ☺️
Woah thats a proper set of gates 😲 formats all good dude 👌 clever with the thumbnail 😉 surely the title is how to build driveway gates like a pro! Great team work 🙌
Point taken mate, thank you for that, I suck at that part of it all!!! Cheers dude, appreciate you! 🍻🍻🍻
This is going to be epic! 👍👍
Haha, I bloody hope so! Thanks for watching dude! 🍻🍻🍻
Great video Ben. I like your ideas and everyone brings something unique to the table. Mr Joshua has had a different experience to you. You'll find your way. Being a self employed carpenter who only trained 3 years ago I feel your pain and anguish I get that most days. I came from a very different background.
Thanks Paul! Man I wish you the best of luck dude, the other side of that coin is every day is learning something new, which I love!!! 🍻🍻🍻
@HewAndAwe I am also 50 lol.
Love the build :)
What a great 3-phase jointer!!
Wadkin gear is amazing!
If you knew what Josh paid for it too 🤯 I shit you not, £500!
@HewAndAwe shit...... That is too good :) 👍
Wow, Nice Gate!
Cheers dude, thanks for watching 🍻🍻🍻
Best reach around I ever had...
Lmfao!!! Thanks for watching dude!!! 🍻🍻🍻
Awesome video loved it , 56 and on my fourth career now and working for myself woodworking and handyman , just made some driveway gates very similar to yours , loved the style of video also , look forward to seeing how it evolves
Good luck to you both have fun and enjoy making sawdust
Thank you Graham, appreciate this mate!!! Best of luck to you to, gods speed! 🍻🍻🍻
Keep at it - enjoy your videos - from Perth Western Australia
Cheers mate, thanks for watching 🍻🍻🍻
Fantastic plan and your starting a new chapyer !!!
Thank you Mark!!! Thanks for watching too!!! Be lucky mate 🍻🍻🍻
Proper job 👍🏼
Cheers dude! 🍻🍻🍻
Fascinating, was going to ask the purpose of the haunch but kept watching and a double haunch with explanation ❤
Cheers Harry! Thanks for watching dude 🍻🍻🍻
Cheers dude! No we’re up in Suffolk mate.
Love the format and learned a hell of a lot in one go. Keep it up. Prefer the no bullshit straight video.
Thanks dude, appreciate this mate!!! 🍻🍻🍻
Excellent video - learnt a lot and enjoyed the banter between you two. New to the channel
Welcome John, thanks for the compliment dude! I hope you’re having a wicked weekend, thanks for watching! 🍻🍻🍻
Cause the title of the vid was “how to install driveway gates” wasn’t it. That’s a chippies job.
Love it. Keep going, please.
Thanks for watching dude! 🍻🍻🍻
Really excited to see what you two could come up with awsome.
Thank you Chris, appreciate this mate!!! Be lucky 🍻 🍀 🍻
Great video, waiting for some more!
Thanks dudes nice to read this man!!! Hope you’re kicking arse and taking names!!! 🍻🍻🍻
Banging video mate. He seems like a decent bastard he can stay 😂😂 cant quite say legend staus yet like yerself but suspect he'll get there. Honestly mate you no what ever you stick out people are gonna piss and moan about something me personally and reckon most your true fomlowers will watch regardless hope your good 👍🏴
Cheers matey!!! I still haven’t received this new laser 🤦🏻♂️
@HewAndAwe seriously?? Thought it'd been with you by now. 🤔🤔🏴👍
@michaelwillson6847 yeah me to, and they will want it all done like yesterday to even though they’re very late 🤦🏻♂️
@HewAndAwe be getting on the blower to them find out what's happening. Least then you might be able to potentially hit the launch date 🤔🤷
Just close those gates and enjoy. We'll too.
Cheers. And i trully mean it.
Cheers dude, appreciate you 🍻🍻🍻
Shouldn’t the diagonal brace run from opposite the hinge side at the top to the hinge side at the bottom?
@richardslater677 it’s click bait dude, to entice people to watch the video 👍 a unfortunate side of UA-cam that I disagree with but is necessary 😏
Onward and upward!
That’s what she said 😇
Hi Guys,
Did I miss something what happened with your shop and ended up with you teaming up with Josh as you seemed to have a nice little set up doing what you did !
About 1800 quid dude. Thanks for watching 🍻🍻🍻
Notice how the guard rail on the tablesaw ends just at the pinnacle or right before, to ammeliorate any blowback or pinching.
It definitely doesn’t eliminate any pinching! 😂
brilliant content, the future is looking very bright. i especially liked the end where josh's nod of approval at a job well done sealed the deal on your team effort
Me too, that was priceless! It’s nice to be around that too! He’s a good cat!!! Thanks for watching Tom, hope your having a wonderful weekend dude 🍻🍻🍻
Banger. Are there many people like that anymore? I’d love to have real skills like this. And do it with a rollie in the side of my mouth.
Shops closing down by the dozens as we speak, very sad times… thanks for watching dude 🍻🍻🍻
It makes nice change to watch proper British craftsmen rather than these pretenders with brand new equipment and just playing at it, keep it up guys.
Thank you Micheal, looking like this idea is a winner 😁 thanks for watching mate, be lucky! 🍻🍻🍻
I think you’ve found a brother from another mother.
Haha!!! Cheers Chris!!! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend dude!!! 🍻🍻🍻
👍🏝️🇨🇦
Cheers dude! 🍻🍻🍻
The sound of that Axminster thicknesser struggling with 2mm on softwood, and having to manually help the feed. What a heap of crap.
Was actually a 3mm cut fella.
@@HewAndAwe 😊 sometimes measurement and luck unites and then it's called Expertice.. 🤣🤣 Knowing that from daily life ..
Best to You Guys..!
As long as you both keep your clothes on.....🥸
I can safely say no birthday suite from me, can’t vouch for Josh though 😂
Register a chicken 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
We actually have to register them, the world’s gone mad! I want sure anyone got that gag, glad you said 😂
