    I'm as a metallurgist usually quite critical about such a UA-cam knife making but this time definitely thumbs up. Solid work and very nice knife design. This guy knows what is he doing.

      Other than pourous steel, unstable & worst wood to use and off center edge geometry, sure it looks good. 😂😂😂😂

    • @KKoKoRR
      @KKoKoRR 9 місяців тому +9

      @@BeMoreGooderPeople Dude it is just cutting tool, there is no need to make atomic precise.
      I was critical before too for knife making, also quite obsessed with steel specification but I realize that is just a tool, no need to use perfect or super duper material. Because anybody use them for a life time except you are a butcher.

      There’s nothing at all wrong with this lovely knife. Worst handle material? That would be duct tape. Which is probly what that troll would use.

    • @idhatemet00
      @idhatemet00 8 місяців тому +12

      @@BeMoreGooderPeople unstable and worst wood would be pine, even in that instance it would still fit in the context of the video, "making a nice knife from trash materials". the point of the video was using whatever he had lying around. heirloom quality knives from years past didn't have cruwear, magnacut, or k390, etc, they had blister steel then crucible/ cast steel. although the crucible/ cast steel process further refined the blister steel process, the carbon content of those blades varied greatly as the steel wasn't able to be totally homogenized on a chemical level like it is today. the steel used in the video is far better than anything they had back in those days, it is more than adequate, and the point is to show the barrier to entry in knife making isn't high. people like you will comment things like this, but i GUARANTEE you have never made a knife. keep on hating from your basement guy.

    It's always refreshing to see someone create a nice knife without using fancy equipment that costs thousands upon thousands of dollars. Also, that design is what I would consider optimal for an all-around knife. Well done!

    For being a completely upcycled project, or even for not, it's beautiful. It's not overly lavish, or bougie, but it's pretty and also useful. So many pretty knives arent functional as well so, well done.

    I love the ''hamon'' on the blade, gives it a distinct vibe.
    Props to you for making something out of nothing!!!

    • @idhatemet00
      @idhatemet00 8 місяців тому +4

      a traditional hamon is intentionally done with clay to keep the spine soft and the edge of the blade hard, makes for a tougher blade and results in a similar color variance. the variance in color in the video is from the 2 different types of steel used for the edge and the body of the knife. does look like a hamon though so i get the confusion lol

    Just amazing. I would make (I would buy a no-frills model)
    . No carving no engraving no stippling no ferric chloride on the handle no fancy butt plug.
    Forged polished steels and oak with tung oil wax either both.
    The reverse Hamon show the perfect blend of soft hard steel.
    Nice work all around.
    I buy super simple very sharp knives and I USE THEM ALL HARD

    Hey man, I've been a hobby maker for about a decade now. A lot of these youtube videos are straight clickbait, but this was the real deal. It got me excited to go out into my shop and finish a few knives, maybe try a few new things. I loved the way you did the handle, and the engraving was really neat (including that homemade hammer from a bolt---pretty spiffy).

  • @Lightning-Man-1954
    @Lightning-Man-1954 5 місяців тому

    Pure craftsmanship. I tip my hat to you Sir.
    No sharpening jigs, just metal removal, perhaps idve like less gring off of too much excess steel or Brass or wood...I hate clogging the wheel. Your rudimentary work holding jigs are a testimony to you mind skills. My former employer wanted a mini sand blasting handpiece I made during my lunch hour. Stood over me as I was packing my tools. As I finished he yelped out WHERE is the handpiece !!!. OH yeah!!...grabbed a hammer I made, like yours.. then a prototype that didn't work. Threw it in the air ...he watched it land, then screamed as I smashed it flat with my hammer. Guess what...I made that hammer too. !
    I'd already removed the micro handpiece. Fitted inside a Tabacco rectangular tin. Filing the brass spacer was a genius move. Engraving also a personalised thing to offer. Consider making a memory stick for anyone buying a knife from you. Consider the next handle to be Silver wire inlaid...or hand checkered ...or a brass inlay plate with Wild Buck Engraving ...or a brass spine with filings your spacer. That's my need. Can't swing a hammer...arthritis in hand and thumb too bad. What was the harder steel in the middle of the outside soft plates?
    Held together with tack welds then ground off?
    Nice spoonfuls of Borax. Overall a very sweet display of backyard builds with what's at hand. Stippled are a pain...maybe Consider balled ends of brass wire..
    Onya Mate.!

    Nice work! Perhaps some contrast in the handle. If you lightly sanded the stipple area to bring out the natural color of the wood. It would have gone well with the brass accents.

    Beautiful! I wonder what kind of sheath it deserves... Can your skills extend to leather work? A knife like this deserves a beautiful sheath to match.
