This guy is by no means the best woodworker on UA-cam but is the only woodworker who I can stand to watch every video all the way thru and I have enjoyed watching him become better and better. Good job dude
I'd love to see a version of this where you gave the whole top surface that topographic look with the wire wheel and then crystal-epoxied over it so that definition is still visible.
Hey Cam i was a jobsite foreman for 20 years for a high end company and one of the flooring finish tricks we did was we sprayed (or rolled) on a couple coats high gloss clear acrylic finish then finished it with 2 coats of a matt finish. obviously we sanded and tack'd in between coats. we did the high gloss bc it is WAY more durable than the matt in protecting the wood. the matt finish was a more over pleasant finish more comfortable to walk on and high gloss shows ever imperfection in the wood grain, foot print, glossy finishes have a high up keep like white carpets or mirror walled bathrooms.
That "removed the soft pith of the grain" trick I did with a doug fir cabinet I made so the whole side looks like those ripples on a beach when the tide is out, it's SOOOOOO tactile and everyone just rubs their hands over it. It's by far the best feature of the cabinet.
Wow. Only someone who's worked with enough different types of wood enough times would even understand you can do that to the edge of the table. You vibrate at the right frequency to understand the qualities of the wood in a very unique way. Great job! Very creative and beautiful.
Redwood is such beautiful wood. The nicest carving I have seen. Was a Redwood burl carved into an eight foot humpback whale. The grain made it look like it was in shallow water, and the sun was "rippling across it's back."
I have been watching your videos for over 4 years now, you are the only woodworking UA-camr I can binge watch, you can rewatch it a lot of times without getting bored. Keep up the good work man
This table looks fantastic, but medium sized round tables are just misfit pieces of furniture. You can't eat at them, they're too big to be coffee table or a side table, you can't put them up against a wall, they're usually at an awkward height for sitting or standing, and more. They just don't seem to serve a purpose other than to put a bowl of flowers on and some family photos. Maybe as an overflow table for a big meal. But that's about it.
Yeah it’s kind of an awkward size for most uses, but I’ll bet it’s exactly what someone out there is looking for for a very specific location/use. It’s so beautiful I’m trying to think of a good use for it in my house 😂.
I respect the hell out of your integrity. I love this and every build you film. I am not a wood worker but love the process and the outcome. Thanks for everything you do
I loved the table Scott designed. Looked amazing with the different colored epoxy. Talking about cool tables, I'd really loved your flame desk. The size, shape and color were amazing.
What a super beautiful work of art! Oh I’d love to own a table like this to present food art on! I love this video. The art, the authentic marketing, the wit! It’s just genius!
Hey Cam, Nice, I grew up in a house, where my room was paneled in Clear Redwood. My dad sided his house he built in the late 50's with Redwood, and he went through the truck load and selected the nicest pieces with heart wood/ sap wood and paneled my room walls and ceiling. I thought that every boy had a room like that growing up. Wish I could buy the table, but I hope it goes to someone who will appreciate it.
That is a pretty spiffy looking table and I wholeheartedly agree that it isn't the right fit for all homes. I appreciate you actually being willing to say that because many people wouldn't be willing to do that which is a disservice to the customer. That end texturing is really cool, I do like it.
The colour of that wood is truly beautiful. I could stare at it all day (beats a lot of what's on the tv). Plus, it appears so tactile with the ridged sides, it just adds to the table's interesting appearance. I think if it was my table I would ask if the sides could be made slightly more satin looking like the top surface. At least that's how it looks on my pooter screen. Love your work as always. Btw, I would be the wrong person for this table as I have nowhere to put it, but if I lived in a huge house I would probably now own several dozen wood tables 😊
Beautiful table, Cam. I wanted to say something like, 'why not do something NOT a table with that beautiful-ass wood,' but remembered that redwood is soooo soft... almost unusably soft. Can't do reliable joinery soft. Anyway, it's beautiful in the end, and I think you're underestimating how well you hardened up that wood. Also, a toddler will ALWAYS injure themself in the worst possible way on literally anything, to include cotton balls, so I understand the prioritization of the sweaters. It's a wonder we survived as a species. Source: have had toddlers.
Olá, boa tarde! Eu e meu marido gostamos muito de assistir o seu canal e ver suas explicações e o seu trabalho. Parabéns, pelas peças maravilhosas que você faz.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Muito obrigada. 🇧🇷 .
I'm glad to be witness to a man's attempts at making Mother Nature cry... tears of joy. I am sad I don't have table monies, but am happy to see it just the same :D
Love the table, Cam, and the commentary is pure gold as usual. Since you asked, I would prefer a simpler base as the swirling lines of the base you chose detract visually from the table top (in my personal opinion; I’m sure others love it exactly as is). From a functional perspective, I think the diameter of the base at the bottom would make it difficult to use the table with chairs, which is how I would want to use it if it were mine. I would want to sit at the table in the morning drinking my tea and gazing mindlessly into the wood grain 😊. So a simple black post-style column base with feet extending out at floor level (like a typical small table in a restaurant or cafe) would be my preference.
Awesome table, it definitely gave me a new technique in ways to present the edges of a project. I also liked the homage to "Nash Bridges" and his car. I remember watching the show growing up and wanting his car. Heros and Icons channel plays reruns every Monday from 11:00 to 15:00, or at least that's what the "Guide" says.
I do love the hilarious and witty replies you do to stupid comments at the end of your videos - pure brilliance. "not the first mother I have disappointed" lol
It’s a beautiful table that I’m sure would look good in someone’s house. Personally, I like working with the softer woods, but they do present some complications when sanding. Cherry is my personal favorite. You ought to do something in that sometime.
Fantastic use of a piece of 'scrap' timber, love the contoured sides, would look very nice as a top with a clear resin to make it 3D. Live your work as usual
Cam, we love that you love our Fathom and epoxies. We don't love that you think less of the UV Resin and would love your feedback. But give us a week; we're all in therapy sorting out our feelings....
Cam wouldn’t have half the number of subscribers without the amusing banter! That’s a key ingredient to his success (like finishing his pieces with N3 Nano 😊).
For any waterbased finish that you want to "lay out" really well - Floetrol - it's an additive that increases open time, reduces viscosity a bit without compromising the chemistry and works GREAT for spraying to get flawlessly smooth spray paint that shouldn't need much more than a very light de-nib. ZERO orange peel effect if you do it right.
Hi. Long time listener first time caller here. If you don’t mind me asking, what was the reasoning on heating the table and epoxy as opposed to using something thinner like a penetrating epoxy? Haven’t heard you say you read all of your comments recently, so we’ll see how this works! Love your videos, I’ve learned a ton. Also keep up the smart assin’
Makes sense. I wasn’t necessarily questioning the method (ok I guess I TECHNICALLY was..) but more so in a learning opportunity for me, not a “I know better than this guy” way.
And, Ive ordered from FlowyLine and they are great. Some flaws, but some super unique welded metal pieces. They honoured a damaged delivery to us and for that, I will support. Cam, you're a great UA-camr, Ive been doing my own tables and pieces, with meh epoxy, I would love to be on your program, GREAT EPOXY's!!!
Yeah, I found the hard way that the orbital sanders eat soft wood. I have that same water heater!! Love it. I am still experimenting with wood finish. Trying to find the best, fast drying finish for my shop. I never trusted one coat finishes myself for long term use. That table is beautiful though.
Spraying with painters’ poly around is like standing near one of those inflatable wavy-arm dealership tubes and expecting it not to hit you. I’ll be doing it again today 😁
Great result 👍. Tried to purchase your N3 Nano Kit, however, delivery to Germanyunfortunately adds up approx. 60EUR!!! Anyhow, I love your vides and thanks for all your fantastic tips & tricks 😃
Got to tell you if I had the spare cash to buy a house with a room to set that table in I would, the top surface looks like sand dunes in the afternoon from above and I love the way you highlighted the grain on the edge. However I don't have enough spare cash to buy the original redwood slab let alone the table or a house to do it justice so hey ho looks pretty cool man.
Thinking about a Toyota Tundra full cab myself. My brother in laws works on cars and says it's probably the most reliable domestic truck on the market.
You need a flap sander disc or a wheel brush sander. They have small strips of sandpaper attach to a wheel or a drum and comes in different grits and they will let you sand small details like those groves with eas so you don't have to sand them with sand paper.
That's a beautiful table, and I'd be a good match, but unfortunately I have downsized my house and have no place for it. But I do love redwood. I own a custom redwood burl guitar that is beautiful. Good to know how soft the wood is. I'll be even more careful with my guitar.
Use penetrating epoxy to infuse wood. It contains solvents and decrease in volume when cured, but some, such as System Three, will soak right through porous wood.
Great. I don't need a marking knife made with 81 layers of Damascus steel, but you made me want one anyway because it's harder to a hrc of 62 and that sounds like nice shit, which i like.

The thing Ive found is the best are not always the best at making money. It takes a combination of things. He's got the right formula it seams.
He's not?! Who is the best?
Agree, I should have read this b4 my post
I watch him all the way thru every video too. Who do you think is the best on UA-cam?
Foureyes though
I'd love to see a version of this where you gave the whole top surface that topographic look with the wire wheel and then crystal-epoxied over it so that definition is still visible.
ooh that sounds nice :)
That's actually a great idea. Makes me think an actual topographic map would be cool under epoxy. Just sayin
My thoughts exactly!

Dope Table. Dope Ridges. Dope Flowy Base. Dope Haircut.
You are not just a (great) woodworker, you are an artist Cam
The table turned out gorgeous. The grain on the edge is la pièce de résistance! Wish I needed a round table.
I 100% wish I had the space for this. It is gorgeous!! I spent 20+ years in Mendocino County and miss redwood furniture.

Read this as "You can't eat them" and I'm like, damn, that's deep.
I can tell you my wife loves our medium round table (pottery barn or something). It makes a great place to pile mail, a coat, and 2-4 of her purses.

It would be really cool if you made a railway themed redwood table since it was the most common wood used to build the trans American railway.
I have no need for a Damascus marking knife, no matter how cool it looks . . . but that golf swing . . . I can relate 100%
