I know this is probably a long shot, but could we maybe get an update in like 6 months to a year regarding if everything worked as intended? Because I think many people will use these as a guide (or at least what brands to buy for some applications).

No, these videos are not content they are advertisements for intel and intel won't pay for a follow up, especially if the follow up is that they swapped over to running an AMD cpu. Losing the revenue stream that running intel ads brings in is too risky for such a thing.

@@benfubbs2432 who says they swap to AMD? Lol I personally prefer Intel because Ryzen has a well known heating issue and my colleagues who work in repair (I'm a programmer, I don't know a lot on hardware) all say they have more problems with amd than Intel... So it's performance vs endurance and the performance isn't even that far off

I love how this is one of the few times where Linus pretty quickly backed off about stolen stuff from the office and even helped fix the CPU/Mobo kerfuffle, and well deservedly tbh. Being the most simple instructions ever is the point. I don't get it either. They have it down to a science at this point, as they should have after 70+ years of doing things this way. If there was a way to make them simpler - they would. But they've nailed the formula a long time ago.
Then again, I only hear people say that jokingly. I never meet anyone who actually has a problem following them. It's like a meme or something. Had this been a real issue (people not understanding the instructions) they would have done something about it. Like their concept is to have simple instructions so you possibly can't mess anything up.

That monitor mount is really tricky as it may simply get loose as it is pressing against an angled surface.
It only needs to move slightly to become completely loose very fast and then fall on the desk.
You really need to add some angled piece of wood (or 3D print) and screw it to the desk so it cannot move.
Then on that piece you should clamp the monitor arm.
This will fail rather catastrophically very soon.

little heads up from experience, unless that monitor mount has teeth to grip the wood, over a period of time, vibration will eventually cause the mount to slip off and have a pretty big problem. To overcome this, I used a oscillating tool to cut myself an notch so it can be mounted flat. Pretty easy because all you are doing to removing the bevel edge in a back area, and it can not be seen because the back is up against the wall.

    • @lustenaderj
      @lustenaderj 2 роки тому

It definitely looks like a very sad and expensive accident waiting to happen. While better than mounting to the angled surface, I think removing material to flatten that area out might make the desk too thin for a cantilevered mount (looks like it would remove at least half of the thickness just to let the axis of the mounting bolt be on the flat portion). Making a matching angled wedge that you glue and screw to the desk wouldn't be tough, could even be 3D printed with solid infill in a strong material. This would leave you a parallel to the top surface place to anchor that mounting plate without worrying about making the desk too thin. Either option is going to hold tighter than that angled face.

Brandon is one of the great OGs of LTT. His on camera presence is lightyears ahead of where it was ~10 years ago.

With Synology, you can upgrade to larger drives by replacing them one by one and resilvering every time. It will take about 1-2 days per drive. You can use it while it is doing the resilvering process, but with reduced performance.

True, as long as it was originally setup with the Synology Hybrid Raid, and not just RAID5 or 6.
More importantly, there is no way that those NAS devices are staying on the desk like that. They are way too loud. Maybe put them in the garage.

It works with all RAIDs types. With RAID 5 and 6 you have to replace ALL the drives with new drives of equal size one at a time. Once done it will do another parity check and rebuild to the expanded size.

Also Greg, the desktop Synologys NAS's are not loud. They are very quiet. The computer in Brandon's setup would be way louder than the NAS.

@@_marlene honestly every time i am visiting someone or am outside with my laptop i am pissed about the low amount of screen real estate i hve to work with. I am turning off 2 of my monitors when i am gaming, but as soon as i want to do anything productive at least 2of my 27' screens will be full

At 15:50 Linus said 12400 had 6 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores but the 12400 doesn't it Just has 6 performance core its still a great chip but its not a 12600k ( the only 6 core that has 4 efficiency cores).
