Caught in a Storm - Filming in water when this happened. Mayfield Falls. Jamaica Video Guide.

- Relaxing trip turned into an epic adventure as we got caught unguarded in a thunderstorm in rainforest. We were filming Mayfield Falls for Jamaica Video Guide but then sunny weather suddenly changed, the rain started and quickly turned into a heavy thunderstorm. Only later we realized that with lightening happening all around us it wasn't particularly safe to be in water!
If you're looking for things to do in Montego Bay or things to do in Negril, you might want to consider Mayfield Falls in Jamaica, because there are a lot of activities there. However, make sure you're ready to get out of the water fast in case thunder strikes!

Just love your Jamaica videos. Thank you for reminding me how special Jamaica is and how blessed we Jamaicans are. We tend to forget as we get older and life events distract us. I'm feeling refreshed just from watching your video. Bless
Irina, you are becoming a documentary filmmaker.....That was quite an adventure.
You are right about that one. I just love her videos. 😍

Its one of my favorite places in jamaica. Its a must see. The guids there and the food is awesome.
Rivers are my favorite thing about Jamaica. I'm not a great swimmer, but there's lots of spots for babies like me to waddle around. Nothing beats the feeling of cool clear river water.
I agree! I love the cool rivers very much in Jamaica!
Iving vicariously through you ! Brave girl
My most favorite and memorable adventure ever was going to Mayfield Falls with my friends in 1999.
I lived in Westmoreland, a place called Little London, but never heard about Mayfield Falls until a coworker told me about it when I was working in Negril.
All he gave me was a general description of where the place was, but I made a note to myself that I will visit that place. 2 years later, I told a few friends about my adventure plans, and on a early September Sunday morning, about 10 of us were on bicycles ready for the trip. I gave everyone the impression that I know where the place was and that it an easy ride, otherwise no one would want to come and I didn't want to go alone.
We started out at 9:00am, taking all the short cuts I know to get to my coworker's house, which is in Redhills, which is as far as the destination as I know of. Everything from there was uncharted land to me. By the time we passed my friend's village, it was already passed 1:00pm and we were not half way to our destination. I keep telling everybody that the place was around the next corner, pointing in the direction my friend showed me 2 years ago. As if it wasn't bad enough that I obviously don't know where I was going, the journey started going uphill and most of the time we had to dismount and walked with the bicycles. To make matters worse, it started raining and everyone started complaining and wanted to turn back.
We decided to ask for directions at a shop and a kind lady made it clear to us that we are nowhere near our destination because we have a whole mountain to take on and there is no way we can ride a bike over it. This was not what I wanted to hear because I was the only one keeping hope alive. She then gave us a clue that there was an old road a quarter of a mile up on the right that would cut right through the mountains and would save us much time if we want to use it. However, it's an old road that nobody uses anymore, and she don't know what kinds of danger may lurks there.
Well, we take the risk, and sure enough, in about 20 minutes, despite the horrible conditions of the road, we emerged right in front of the property gates. The time was about 3:15 pm. (The short cut on the video reminds me of that road. Maybe it's the same). Most people we met on the way and asked for directions, were surprised that we could ride bicycles that far, and no doubt when we talk to the people on property, they were just as surprised.
One surprise for us though, was the entire fee that nobody knew was going to be included, since almost nobody has money except myself and 2 others. However, the people were not happy to know that we could come this far on bikes and not get to enjoy the water, so they gave us a discount. After myself and the 2 others take care of the bills, we walked the bamboo bridge to the river and had the most spectacular time on the various steps and pools.
We left our belongings on the bank of the river and when we get back we found out that we got robbed by 2 kids. We chased after them but didn't caught up.
It was time to go, but no one wants to take the old road back, so we take the main road around the mountains. Luckily it was all down hill at this point. This in itself was an adventure! To this day, I am not sure how nobody died off those hills, since half of those bicycles didn't even have brakes. I remember one guy's flip flops has no bottom left after using them as brakes.
It was nonstop ride downhill all the way to my coworker's village in Redhills before we stopped. A quick head check reveals that one man was missing.
This is not good. We had to wait to see if he would turn up, while his brother decided to go back an look for him.
No one was happy about this because by this time it was passed 6:00pm and it was getting dark. About an hour later we saw them coming and thankfully he was ok. It turns out that he was afraid to take on the hill and decided to walk instead, needless to say we didn't let him get off easily for having us waiting and fretting, hoping that he was alive. Well everything went smoothly from there home, and I had a wonderful adventure to tell about the time I convinced a bunch a guys on bicycles to take a trip to Mayfield Falls without knowing where I was going.
Courageous story
👁👁 OMG .. and I thought I was the only one on Irina Channel writing these " super long long " .. paragraphs it is nice to know that there are other people who is also passionate as I do when expressing their selves .. " oh yes ... ha ha ha ha haaaaa " .. my friend after reading your story I definitely want to go... like NOW ! 😊😄 .. and I hope my experience is just as adventurous like yours .. " yes sahh " .. my friend thank you for sharing LOL 😊😄☺
I LOVE this story. Could be made into a movie. But mostly, I loved that you STILL consider it to be your "Most Favorite and Memorable Adventure"....that is AWESOME
That's a really well written story! Thank you so much for sharing! I can't imagine going to Mayfield Falls on a bike, it's absolutely impossible with so many hills, lol! I would be exhausted from just walking uphill, nevermind riding uphill 🤪 So glad you did it, sounds like a lot of fun and adventure! :)
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE thanks for reading my story. I loved sharing it, as I said it has and still is my favorite adventure story. The whole experience, from start to finish, from me trying to convince everyone to get onboard to us getting back home sore but safe, all this makes it a very special event for me. I have done many spectacular things since then, even skydiving and sailboating, but nothing like my first trip to Mayfield Falls with friends.
❤ Jamaica! 🇯🇲. Thank you Irina!
aah Jamaica just beautiful even in the rain. You're brave to go under that water cave, nooope not me, i can't even swim.. why is it always the same 4 people giving the thumbs down in your videos. this video deserves all thumbs up.
Keep up the good work.
Carlo, I always wondered that too about the Thumbs Down. I mean, who are these people, and how can anyone NOT love ALL of Irina's Videos? They are so informative, and shed such a POSITIVE light on Jamaica; even when she's just covering every day life. I mean, if they don't like her VLOGS, they should just NOT watch them...
I miss this place so much...washing machine is my favorite spot!!!💯💯💯
That was AWESOME !..
Looks like a great memory

Wow irena thanks a lot for this one ....thats literally my mothers backyard...she used to play in that river as a child way back in the 50s when it was known only to the people in that small and still small community of glen islay / flour hill. I grew up in kingston before migrating to canada thirty yrs ago but whenever i return home this is one place i have to go to spend some peaceful tranquil time.....i love it there...thats where my roots started...
Once again, a great video and the music you chose is perfect!
Thank you very much! Glad you liked the music! 🙏❤️
Yeah, great music to the always amazing videos
You are the bomb every thing you show I want to do!!!!
thanks Irina..so happy you showing this beautiful island,,,
This is so awesome. Fimi eyelant a boom.
Eyelant. First. lol
For every video I watch the ads in full, UA-cam gonna pay you for your good work 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you! :))) This support is truly appreciated! Especially at these challenging times!
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE absolutely Irie! We got your back!
😂😂😂Right lol
Yeah. Me too regarding the Ads. I used to skip them before I realized that You Tubers like Irene gets paid only if we let them play. Considering the FANTASTIC job she is doing in "educating ME" about the Island where I was born, and LOVE, letting the ads play is WELL WORTH IT (honestly, it is not enough Gratitude in my opinion...wish I could do more to contribute to what Irina is doing....yeah, I know, she covered why she can't just "accept" donations in her December Live VLOG)
I love it !! was like a heart pounding adventure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quite exhilirating. Loved every moment of it. Keep them coming Irina
Well said. Nicely put together. BRAVOOO 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️

Well done Irena! You're so fearless and adventurous. Love your videos, they are very knowledgeable. Thank you
Never knew much about the Mayfield Falls, however your delightful presentation have ignited a desire to explore this one and some of the the other jewels on the island at my next visit. Thank you.
yes please, sounds great! :))
Love the video. You guys are brave. ❤🏊♀️👍
Good morning....happy Sabbath
Thank you Irena, you are doing an awesome job, I wish 50~70% of Jamaican got to see and experience these sights and sounds, maybe we would appreciate our PRESTIGIOUS, BEAUTIFUL ISLAND more.
Travelling50 that is so true. A lot of these places need to do a better job of advertising in Jamaica. They tend to just work with the Hotels which put the locals at a disadvantage.
Domestic Tourism is very low in most countries, so Jamaica is not an exception. However, we're changing it little by little :)
Irina love your realness with your vlogs, always providing the + and -
points. Very frank and through 👍👏👍👏
Thank you so much! 🙃😀
Nice video Irie
Love this place visited twice now I want go back. Probably should visit my father side of the family in bethel town other beautiful places in westmoreland like Blue Hole Mineral Spring also 💚💚

Hey Irena good day to you in beauty of a natural nature where it seems to be a piece of paradise, I am from Jamaica and I never knew that those places really existed in Jamaica, oh you do really love outdoor nature, I do hope you are enjoying every bit of the tranquil moments. Your videos do really opened up my eyes to a lot of spectacular scenery that exists in Jamaica, I do hope whenever I visit I would have to take a trip to see. I do love every bit of your videos, these look like a geography documentary. Stay safe and hope that things will pick up for your business when flights resumed and visitors free to travel again...
Thank you so much for all the support and I'm so happy you enjoy the videos! :)
Thanks for the memory. Been there twice. Once before it was well known and once after and no pictures to show just memories and the experience. A lovely place to visit. Still not known by a lot of locals especially from Kingston where I live.

Another awesome video Irina!!
Thanks for sharing You are doing a great job
Great video 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲love Jamaica
Love it beauty
Awesome adventure Irina, but I’m feeling homesick after watching it. Right now, I’m looking outside my house on a pile of snow in Massachusetts 🙁
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Easton it’s crazy that we’re living in foreign lands while foreigners are enjoying our beautiful Island🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
@@ingababy5196 you’re so right Ingrid. The grass always seem greener on somebody else’s lawn until you go over there and look back at somebody enjoying your lawn😕
@@bunnyveena8292 Awww the Irony!!
@Easton Hill and @Ingrid Jarrett The thing is, in almost 7 years of living in Jamaica, I never felt that the grass was greener anywhere else 😊However, it took me years of travelling and searching for the best place on Earth before I discovered Jamaica. To know how good Jamaica really is - people need to live elsewhere first, so it's no wonder if Jamaicans themselves often don't realize it, until they relocate to the US/UK/Canada etc.
Have not been there in over 30 years! One of my favourite spots. 😍
What an adventure!! Definitely need to put these falls on my bucket list.
Every video get me motivated to visit my home country. I will be broke during my next visit because of your videos. I want to visit all the attractions 🙈 I will definitely have to make some sacrifice🤣. Thanks again for the amazing tour. Stay safe and blessed
🤦🏽♂️I was worried for you diving under that rock 🤣 great adventure tho.
Faith is everything
You and your husband are so cute going on lil adventures without the children
Thank you for showing us the beautiful places in Jamaica...Irie.
As always....a great video. You are a natural at this. I am a 59 year old Jamaican and never knew this place exists. Thank you. You deserve many more subscribers.
I live near Mayfield's fall.
Do you visit it often?
Hi Irina. I am glad you experience Mayfield Falls. I went there about 10 or more years ago and it was so good. I enjoyed myself but didn't go into cave that push you out with the water. If you had gone further then you would have seen the diving spots. I did try the washing machine and also jacuzzi etc. Theirvcooked meals are delicious as well, rich and natural, at time good price.
You still need to experience Dunns River Falls Irina. Its the best time now when not many people are visiting so less crowd, just the way you like it.
Thanks again Irina and Walk Good.
What a adventure! Great!
As a jamaican living in the UK I thoroughly enjoyed this marvellous journey. The cascades are so inviting and fun!😉. I cannot wait to spend a day there on my next visit to JA.
😱 I never knew that falls exist in Jamaica I thought there were two falls
There are about 100 waterfalls in Jamaica :)
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE what are you serious
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, Irina. So, thank you, for showcasing this falls and showing us another way to experience the relaxing athmosphere and beauty of this area and waterfalls. It was a fascinating watch for me too, because, during a long stay on the island in 2016, we tried to get to this falls, but were so put off by the Google map road we turned back, unable to complete our journey...( to our lasting disappointment!) Sorry about your thunderstorm experience! I'm sure I would have totally freaked out!
This means you need to come back to Mayfield Falls next time you're in Jamaica!
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE It sure does, and I'm about to have the first covid💉(apparently, it is going to be a case of no 💉 no travel.) I'm packed and ready. Just waiting for the all clear. Remember I'd ask you sometime ago, whether you do tours to the places you showcase?
@@patriciabarnes7034 Yes, we do tours to all of these places. Derrick is our main guide, he's absolutely amazing (I learnt a lot from him!)
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE OK, you are on, once I get there. You can think of a package that includes waterfalls. I've been to YS many times and Dunns, though I adore YS. Nature anything, birds, rain forest, waterfalls that aren't on the tourist trail, scenery...Mountains.... Looking forward already.
I grew up near this place. Wow!
You captured Mayfields well. I have been there and your positives and negatives are correct.
You have to go to Milk River bath but don't go during crab season. They crabs climbed into the baths not a good thing. That's April and May.
I guess those 🦀 need to wash some of those saltiness off too🤣🤣🤣
Bravo Irina! You did it 🙌😀 I dont know if I would have gone under and through the tunnel 😌 But how exillerating it must have been! Love this video Irina esp because I prefer going to less travelled routes and places away from tourists 😂👍Hope you are enjoying your weekend ✌
