- Taming wild Jamaican HUMMINGBIRDS and the Doctor Bird who is a National Symbol of Jamaica. Birds in Jamaica are some of the main attractions not only for bird watchers from all over the world, but can be an incredible unique experience for anyone visiting Jamaica on vacation.
Today I'd like to share the story of Rocklands Bird Sanctuary, which began its operation in 1958 as an attraction in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and it still allows us to marvel at the incredible beauty of Jamaican birds and includes the chance to feed hummingbirds in Jamaica.

My sweet island of Jamaica has the most beautiful birds in the world this is awesome Jamaica also has the most beautiful parrot in the world there is no other than my sweet island of Jamaica land of wood and wata
Jamaica only has 2 species of indigenous parrots, the yellow bill and black bill green parrots. There are far more colorful parrots in other parts of the world. Central and South America IMO has the most diverse species of parrots, including the one that Irine has. It's cousin, the scarlet macaw I think is by far the most colorful parrot in the world. It is mostly found in Costa Rica, Venezuela and Brazil. However, due it's popularity in the pet trade, you can probably find it almost anywhere in the world at some pet shop or zoo.

Awesome! When I was a little girl, my bedroom had a glass window overlooking a garden. The streamer tail hummingbird would come suck nectar from flowers 💐 in the garden. I was mesmerized for many minutes just staring at the birds with my face about 12" away behind the glass window. That's how I developed a love 💘 of 🐦 birds 🐦

Another great education Irina. I’m a bird lover myself. I live in Massachusetts and I hate when the birds leave in the winter so I have a big table in my backyard that I fill with bird seeds every morning. I’ve been doing it for about 3 years now and I noticed that the birds are getting closer when i come with the food. It’s amazing. This is another activity I’ll need to do when I go to Jamaica👍🏽

I was there last year. A hidden gem! We asked why they weren't listed in the main tourist brochures. We only knew about this because we had a local guide!

We‘ve been to Barney‘s hummingbird garden in Negril, also a fantastic experience getting in touch with those beautiful birds. Thx gor sharing, maybe next time we‘ll stay near Montego Bay for a week prior going to Negril :-)

@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE barneys is just his fenced in yard, the birds come and go at will, but his place is very lush with an array of Jamaican plants growing in gardens, we had fun, enjoy 🙂
It has been more than 30 years since I have seen and heard a doctor bird. Never saw the pink hummingbird. Thank you so much brings back good memories of watching them fly through a field from flower to flower.

LISA SALMON, and her birds, but never got there, You do a wonderful series about JAMAICA, I left in 1959, still £ and the Union Jack, have you ever seen an OLD PASSPORT ?
