  • Learn the infamous third layer of the Rubik's Cube-the easy way!
    FAQ:
    "The last algorithm doesn't work!"
Yes it does. You need to pay closer attention. One of three things is probably happening: (1) You forgot the final "bottom layer to the right" move. Remember: when the corner's yellow sticker appears on the top, you're not done! You still have to finish the algorithm by turning the bottom layer to the right. (2) You forgot to turn ONLY the top layer after solving a corner. Turning the whole cube after you solve a corner is INCORRECT. Repeat the full algorithm until yellow appears on top, and then turn ONLY the top layer to the next corner, exactly as I explain at 5:27. (3) You have a corner twist that you caused earlier. This makes the cube impossible to solve with regular turns. Just take any corner on the cube, twist it clockwise, and try to solve the cube again. If it still doesn't work, take any corner on the cube, twist it clockwise, and try to solve it again. It will work this time if you do it correctly. If you want to be able to tell if it's solvable or not, scroll down to the bottom of the description.
"What do I do if no corners are in the right place?"
Do the dodge on any corner. I explain this at 4:28.
"How can I trust you since the video had a jump cut at 4:55?"
Because the video is correct and the jump cut doesn't skip any information that I haven't already gone over.
"I skipped completely past this step in the video, what do I do?"
Keep watching the video until I get to the part where you are at.
    "I still need help!"
Watch my example solves. If that still doesn't work, please ask a specific question using a time stamp, and I will gladly help you until your problem is completely solved.
"Why are you teaching such a slow method?"
This is tutorial is for beginners. I also have tutorials for more advanced cubers.
"Why am I even here, I already know how to solve?"
    Ok.
"Why do you keep saying wrong move names?"
Sorry. In this video I name the moves directionally as opposed to traditionally. In retrospect I should have gone with traditional notation (which I explain in my Solve the Third Layer Faster video). I've added traditional notation for this video below:
    0:50 - Face: F (R U R' U') F'
    3:00 - Push: R U R' U R U2 R' U
    3:56 - Dodge: U R U' L' U R' U' L
    5:25 - Twister: R' D' R D
The FACE gets you the yellow cross.
The PUSH gets you the vertical bars.
The DODGE puts the yellow corners in the correct places.
The TWISTER twists the yellow corners until they are solved.
    F Front face clockwise
    U Up (top) face clockwise
    R Right face clockwise
    L Left face clockwise
    D Down (bottom) face clockwise
' Actually, turn that face counterclockwise
2 Actually turn it twice (in either direction)

HOW TO TELL IF A CUBE IS SOLVABLE (or if you have a corner twist)
Get to the spot where all you have left is the twister algorithm.
Grab paper and a pencil and examine each of your four corners:
•If it is solved (yellow on top), write a 0 on the piece of paper.
•If it is rotated clockwise (yellow on the right side), write a 1.
•If it is rotated counterclockwise (yellow on left), write a -1.
You should have FOUR different numbers on that paper, one for each corner. Add them all together!
•If your total is 0, 3 or -3, your cube is solvable!
•If your total is 1 or -2, take one of the yellow corners and twist it counterclockwise, and your cube will be solvable!
•If your total is -1 or 2, twist one corner clockwise.
    There you have it!

All I came here for was to solve the third layer and I was NOT disappointed. Impressed really! I was making progress and messed up three times in a row but each time, I resolved the first two layers the way I already knew and came back to this video and just like I knew it would, the lesson worked and I solved the cube! Thanks and much respect! I had to play it at 1/2 speed because my cube is hard to turn for me to keep up. I really appreciate how it visually confirmed when it does or does not expect the colors to be in the correct place based on the color of the center dot on that face.

0:51 (front’ up left down right) is for when you’re yellow edges are flipped up and do it multiple times until you see the yellow cross you stop
2:32 the push (up push down push up double push down push)
3:58 (dodge left up dodge right up dodge left down dodge right down) the dodge only do this when two corners next to each other are right but they are flipped and do it multiple times until,it’s right
    5:20 down left up right
Thx I finally finished my cube!
Edit: I kept watching this video and I can remember all those algorithms thxxx! And I solved it 3 times now I’m so happy

I just solved it! Thanks for your directions... Your doge explanation was a little dodgy but I eventually mastered it. I really liked your 2nd layer "into the whole" directions.

After viewing lots of tutorials about the cube, yours finally got me to the end. It's so easy to screw it up until you get serious for a while and take some notes. Thanks!

I had to watch this video over 20 times to finish my cube. Thank you so much! Your video was the easiest tutorial I have ever found. And I'm only 12!!

Very well explained about the last layer.... It helped a 15 year old to do it perfectly! I got stuck up in the last layer and yeah I got it now... Sometimes I mess up during the last step but I perfectly got it by practicing.... With loads of love from an Indian friend!

If you have this problem you have a corner wich is in the wrong direction so you should put it in the right color up and you can solve it again

@@foreign_swagger6259 if there is 1 corner wich does not face the right derection but the rest of the cube is solved en you tried many times to solve it but it does not work. Then you have to turn the corner so faces the right direction

Thank you, this is the best video for doing the “last part” that I’ve found, you managed to make the algorithms seem quite easy compared to other people that I’m sure seemed to do different ones or longer ones.
