I try to reply often, but "I don't get step X" or "it doesn't work" is too unspecific and I can't help unless I know exactly what problem you have.
COMMON FIRST LAYER PROBLEMS
Step 1 & 2. If the side colors of the cross or first layer don't line up the way I showed it in the video, then you need to redo it. Pay attention to ALL of the colors on one piece, and don't just pick white pieces randomly. I talk about this in the video, how I'm trying to match the other colors of the white piece (like white/orange etc.)
TAKING PIECES OUT OF THE SECOND LAYER
Step 3. At 5:33 I say "you should already know how to do this". I admit this is unclear. You should insert a random yellow edge into the second layer using the same algorithm you use for solving the second layer. If this does not make sense, watch the example solve video linked at the bottom of this comment.
COMMON TOP LAYER PROBLEMS
Step 4. If you can only get 1 or 3 edge pieces of the top cross, you need to reassemble the cube as solved.
Step 5. There should be no problems here.
Step 6. If you ever get only 2 corners in the correct location, you need to reassemble the cube as solved.
Step 7. Finish the 4 moves (don't stop at 3) every time. Turn the bottom (don't rotate the whole cube) to get the next piece. If it STILL does not work, you need to reassemble the cube as solved.
"Why do I need to reassemble the cube?"
Randomly assembling the cube only has a 1/12 chance of being solvable. If you've ever taken the cube apart or twisted corner pieces, then that can be the problem. If stickers have been switched, you will have to switch them back.

*MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE 4 MOVES*
1:52 has the 4 moves, and you have to be able to do this to understand what "4 moves" means when I use it again later on.

It was a great video until the last step. Then he says "But make sure you pay attention to how this works because if you make a mistake you could mess up the cube" then proceeds to do the moves so fast you can't keep track of them.

So, I watched this video like 4 years ago, got into speedcubing as this guy’s channel being my favorite, 2 years after my first solve I went into a huge break when I was averaging around 24 seconds, got back into speedcubing took another break, started averaging sub 20 cuz of this guy, and took a final break until now.

My son's friend asked me how to solve a rubiks cube. I said eh, I dunno, let's look it up. Wound up here. I'm a disabled combat veteran with a brain injury but this instruction was dope so I managed to solve it. I went "Ah that's fun" started watching other videos here and Tingman videos. Wound up ordering a speed cube off Amazon that showed up today (the next day.) Somehow I managed to solve once at around 3 minutes today even with slower hand eye coordination and reaction time. This hobby is dope. I'm gonna go leave this one Tingman's page too. Thanks J Perm for the new talent.

This is a perfect tutorial. I was able to follow all the steps just fine and you explained it in such a way that eventually, I was able to memorize all the steps and solve the cube on my own!
Rewrote my response, I was trying to say I agree with your comment. And I'm glad you were able to memorize how to solve the Rubik's. I've been trying to learn this for years and for some reason I'm unable to retain the tricks. So I am hoping this video will help me like it did for you. Thanks I needed hope. I THINK I BROKE THE RECORD!!... Longest time spent solving a rubik's cube: 10 hours! Yes!!!
TIPS: For first time solvers that are slow (like me). Pause each step or move, then mimic. Before solving, practice the 4 moves left side and 4 moves right side. I like to say "UP, AWAY, DOWN, and BACK" when doing those 4 moves. This video taught my 10 yo. nephew and 8 year old niece. They did every move on their own.

In the last step when Dylan says corners he means the yellow corners... So you apply the algorithm as Dylan says and look whether the yellow corner is solved or not.. if it is solved then move as he says and it will be solved.

Eh,i was only a "little" confused.
I feel like this is the way i used to know how to solve a cube, it’s nice relearning to solve this way even if i prefer the way the method on the rubik’s website has. Since that last step is very prone to messing up the solve from my past experience

Step 2:- use 4 move algorithm to put corners in places
Step 3 :- second layer, it's a little hard to explain watch the video

I already knew how to do it but in another beginner method but it's faster. I don't know about others but it helped me. I would recommend also giving notations here.

Dear Dylan, thank you so much for all your tutorials on solving the Rubik's cube! I'm 41 years old and always thought I'd never be able to solve the cube. I came across the cube recently, which prompted me to start looking into it, again. I watched this video a quadrillion (ok, probably less) times and after like a week (!) I was able to solve the cube entirely by myself, which took me 7minutes 30 seconds and was I proud! I kept practicing and now I'm averaging 2minutes40sec, still using the beginner's method, but starting to look into more advanced techniques. I actually hit 1:59 a few days ago! I'll continue playing your videos, you have created an amazing source of knowledge and I can finally practice to get better and better :D Thank you!

Space Child Roblox I kind of did the same thing with the four corners. Like I just took out the corner and put it back into place and it seemed to work. I just solved the cube but I still have no idea how to switch the middle pieces.

@@whydo_ilive3460 Basically that piece needs to come out because you can't solve it if it's in there. Take any piece that has yellow on it and just stick it in there, the piece you need should come out after that, after which just do it as he says.

4 years ago, I watched this video for more then 100 times just to know how to to the cross and now after being a speedcuber (15 second ao5) and understanding this cube Its safe to say that only this video u need to solve your first cube be consistent yall will be able to do it. DONT GIVE UP
Had stopped practicing 2 years ago. Used to be sub 30. This video popped up and motivated me to focus a lot more on cubing. Averaging around 18 now. The fact that our journey started here just shows how far we've come.

One thing beginner's method seem to have in common for the last layer is to move (swap) corners to twist (flip) edges, twist corners to move edges. It's also what I did back in 1980 when I first learned to solve it on my own. Other variations involve using middle slice moves.

He does explain how to remove the pieces out in the first steps. I have to go back and check as I cannot remember but he does explain it.

Alright I finally got it, this is all u gotta do:
Do the 4 movements for both R and L side of the cube with the 2 colours u want to be ontop
Just do once for each is enough
This tutorial helped me! This was the first tutorials that i've watched and SERIOUSLY, AFTER 1 DAY WATCHING THIS I MANAGED TO SOLVE IT! This tutorial is sick!
This took me a few attempts, and a few evenings. I have memory issues and find things hard to remember but trying to train my brain to keep it alive as much as possible.
I finally did it and I’m so happy and proud of myself. I’m going to try to do it with out the video next time but I’m 💯 % sure I’ll be watching it again. Xxx thank you x
