Solve the Third Layer Faster!

  • •This video is NOT for:
    -People who already know OLL and PLL, or 4LLL
    -People who still have trouble solving the Rubik's Cube
    -Trolls and other people not seeking to learn
    •This video IS for:
    -People who can already solidly solve the Rubik's Cube entirely by memory, preferably in less than 3 minutes. They should also have watched my original third layer video (link below).
    1. The tips and tricks shown here will help you solve the third layer faster, and will help you transition to learning 2-look OLL and PLL.
    2. Did I ever say this method was faster than yours? Nope. This method is designed to be faster than the method in my original video (link below).
    3. There is no reason to make an OLL and PLL video. Just look up the algorithms and memorize them. I've spent 2 years taking algorithms from various sites and I've made a sheet of all the LL layer algorithms that work best for me. If you would like that sheet, contact me via my Facebook page (link below).

    The 2nd step is called EP (edge permutation), and you can do faster. If you have the case that requires you to do the algorithm 2 times (2 opposite edges solved), do a Z-Perm, which is: (M2 U’ M2 U’) (M’ U2 M2 U2 M’). M’ is up (but you could do M if you want, but it wouldn’t make sense because it’s harder), and you can also do U instead of U’.

    guys there's an easier way (life hack) to progress from the dot to the cross! If u start with the dot, u don't need to progress to the bar! Just do the same alg except that instead of 1 layer going front in (F R U R’ U’ F’), you do two layers for "F" both times!!! ask meh if ur still confuzzled :)

    • @ChrisBandyJazz
      @ChrisBandyJazz  7 років тому

      Sort of. Here's the full algorithm for going from the dot to the cross:
      F (R U R' U') S (R U R' U') f'
      where S means turn the middle slice behind the front face clockwise
      where f' means turn F' and S' together

    7:03 That rotation is called a y move. Also, y’ is in the opposite direction. You don’t have to the y rotation though. Just put the U’ that’s in the beginning of the alg at the end of the alg, which is actually just the inverse. So it’s (L’ U R U’) (L U R’ U’). The one in the video actually just AUFing (Adjust U Face) it by bring it to you with a U’ move, and then doing the inverse, but you don’t have to do the U’ move because you already did it at the beginning. But why rotate and then do the AUF when you can just do the inverse, which is rotationless? And you shouldn’t rotate at all (except or maybe on the 2nd step) because you can just AUF it.

    • @ChrisBandyJazz
      @ChrisBandyJazz  6 років тому

      About the y-move: I know
      About the other dodge: Thanks that's actually really cool, did not know that!
      But if you think about it, if you're already holding the cube so that the correct corner is in the top left, then the mirror original dodge would be faster.

  • @onbg6962
    @onbg6962 7 років тому

    The last step is more complicated to solve it. The scenario is just as the same as the last one in the video. 2 different color on the top (in this case yellow in the video) and 2 yellow corners on the other side. So to make this simple and not screw it up because personally the twister algorithm is much more advanced and difficult you can just do this algorithm and solve it.
    R U2 R' U' R U' R' after doing that you should have 3 different corners. there should be a different color in the top right, bottom right, and bottom left. Then don't face another color just stay on where you are. Don't switch faces! Then do the following.
    L' U2' ( means U' twice) L U L' U L
    Then you should have a solved rubik's cube! I personally do this and saved alot more seconds in solving the last 2 corners!

    Good but this video is not for beginners but for people who can already solve the cube but just want to go faster. So you shouldn't be taking so long on one algerrythm (probably misspelled that). Just do it once at a normal pace and put the letters at the top. By making it take so long, you're just making people stop the video and find another one, which is exactly what you don't want I suppose.

      Okay, good point. Thank you for the advice.

    Um no offense but you didn’t show how to purmute the last layer edge pieces on the yellow side 😬

    When orientating the edges there is this algorithm (RURiURUURiU) to twitch the two wrong ones if they are next to each other. How can you solve the edges if the wrong ones are opposite?

      Chris Bandy Thanks, but I'm actually interested in edges, not in corners.

      David B Oh yeah whoops!
      For that do the H-perm:
      M2 U M2 U2 M2 U M2

    • @davidb2885
      @davidb2885 6 років тому

      That doesn't solve it. I want to switch to opposite edges. How the corners change doesn't matter.

    • @ChrisBandyJazz
      @ChrisBandyJazz  6 років тому

      David B The H-perm switches opposite edges without affecting the corners.

    For the L one you can just put it like a fallen L and do the algorithm f (R U R' U') f' and its done as a cross

    How do you memorize these algorithms?!?!?

    • @ChrisBandyJazz
      @ChrisBandyJazz  4 роки тому +5

      1. Write them down on a piece of paper (I can send you a sheet with all of them)
      2. Pick one to drill over and over again until it's memorized
      3. Then pick another one
      4. Repeat 2 and 3 until you're done
      5. Be patient!!
