    2:38: One Step to Pairing
    3:18: Three Obstacles to Pairing
    6:20: Three Mistakes in Pairing
    4:39: Worst-Case Scenario
    Cube: GAN Air
Setup: AT4040, MOTU 828k, Logic Pro X, Final Cut Pro, iPhone SE
    •This video is NOT for:
-People who already know F2L and just want to brag
-People who still have trouble solving the Rubik's Cube
-Trolls and other people not seeking to learn
    •This video IS for:
-People who are able to watch the whole video
-People who can already solve the Rubik's Cube using some sort of layer-by-layer method, entirely by memory, preferably in less than 2 minutes
    (1) This tutorial is NOT about beginner's method. The video STARTS by explaining why beginner's method is redundant, after which I immediately explain F2L. Beginner's method is layer-by-layer (LBL). F2L is pairing edges with corners. The lateral algorithm is an algorithm used in LBL and F2L.
    (2) This tutorial is SUPPOSED to be extremely basic and easy. You will get slower while you are learning F2L, but with enough practice you'll get faster than you'd ever get with LBL.
    (3) This tutorial is THE FIRST IN A THREE-PART series on F2L. If you think this is too easy, then go ahead and watch my next two videos on F2L (links below).
    (4) A big part of F2L is intuition and finding your own ways to get faster. If you find shortcuts, write them down and use them! I guarantee that watching my Essentials video (link below) will be a huge help if you are just starting out.
    (5) Eventually, learning algorithms will be the best way to go for F2L. Once you feel you've reached that point, watch my Advanced F2L video (link below) to learn the easiest solutions to all of those cases that you've been scratching your head about!
    (6) Keep on cubing!
•Three Essentials of F2L (must know!):
    • ESSENTIALS of F2L (mus...

I like how simple this tutorial is. I personally am also a fan of "being able to do it" more than "doing it the best way", as a guideline for teaching, like you have presented it here.
But I think you need a balance, because the simpler a concept becomes, the farther it strays from being the best way to do it in practice. At first I liked the simplicity of your method, but I think the lack of different techniques actually make this method slower than layer by layer, and requires a decent amount of relearning later on (such as ignoring RUR' inserts, and ignoring white-on-top for the corner).
For ease of learning I think you did a really great job, but I don't really agree with the details of the method being taught.

Thanks. I set the balance so that people could at least use F2L to complete a solve. This video is already 8 minutes long, so I didn’t want to start adding on more advanced stuff.
If you watch my next video “Essentials,” then you can get some of the more intermediate techniques! A lot of people ignore that video, which is unfortunate for them.

Have been solving via the beginner method, learned a few little extra bits and got "fast" doing it (quickest was 1:40), but noticed a huge chunk of that was the amount of pausing and messing needed in solving the 2nd layer. If I wanted to get under a minute, I knew I had to sort this part out.
Decided to look up CFOP and general F2L methods - got the gist of it to the point I could do it somewhat, but most tutorials were frankly not the best - generally full of jargon not immediately obvious to beginners and little emphasis on explaining in detail. This is the first one which truly clicked with me! Very clear and easy to understand.

Advice for beginners: Guys like 3 months ago I watched this but I understood nothing and my average was like 50 seconds or so at that time but after I started learning CFOP I learnt the algorithms but I didn't really know what they were doing. So how I learnt each F2L case is that I did the algorithm and followed where the pieces go and how they pair. Learning just the algorithm does help you but not that much. If you know what each algorithm does and how they pair it will be better (By the way I got so much faster in 2-3 months with cfop. Now I average around 17-22. My PB is 14)
I strongly recommend you to learn cfop. Especially master the F2L step. Good Luck !

And the only way to remove the yellow is when you do a random ''Lateral Algorithm''. It's still a good method though but i wouldn't recommend it. Nice video tho! :)

This video is easy to understand and there are time stamps in the description that are very helpful. I finally did F2L and with a little more practice, I'll be a pro at this! Thank you so much!

@@oscarwalls3770 Every time you're about to twist one of the sides up or down, look and see-did that twist move one of my completed pairs?
If yes, then go back (twist that side back to what it was). Adjust the lower two layers of the cube at the same time (i.e. a d-move) and try again.
If no, then you're good to go.
The point is to only do moves that don't disrupt the pairs you've already completed. There will always be an empty slot you can use.

F2L is slower for everyone when they first start using it. When you keep practicing it, you will gets way better than beginner's method.

    • @harrylarge5644

Im struggling to see how doing F2L intuitively is quicker than beginner method. With F2L like this you have to be constantly watching which side you lift up, especially when doing later pairings seems much quicker to just bash out the moves in beginner which are much simpler and easy to execute quickly, requires far less thinking, like Shawn I can do 1 minute usual solves but doing f2l takes far longer. Im sure pros averaging 20-30 sec solves have taken the time to learn the individual algorithms for each of the cases rather than solving it like shown in any of f2l youtube vids.

    • @bees7604
      @bees7604 5 років тому

@@harrylarge5644 Hi! Semi-pro here avg below 20 seconds. As you practice intuitive f2l the way the cube movements affect the relevant pieces becomes increasingly clear cutting down on a lot of the thinking. Figuring out how to solve a pair becomes less of a painful exercise in logic and more of a "oh i see how i can match these pieces up, now let me just do those moves". I have never memorized an algorithm for f2l pairs, instead i examine the best way to solve a given pair and use that method every time I encounter that case, By practicing until you get to the point where f2l becomes second nature, you can move at the same pace you do to bang out the beginner method algorithms, but you use far fewer moves resulting in a much quicker time. Unfortunately reaching this stage does take sustained and deliberate practice, but because of the f2l method's high efficiency you don't have to be perfect, or even very good at it for it to be faster than beginner's.
