- The Ferrari 488 GTB is, to put it bluntly, one of the best cars I've ever driven, at any price, ever. It's mind-blowingly fast, docile, easy to drive slowly and quickly, and comfortable enough for daily use or a long road trip. Its 662 HP Twin-Turbo V8 makes all the right sounds and produces more shove than mere mortals could ever ask for, and it manages that power with a completely seamless traction control system that you won't even know is there, until you turn it off and either perform a heroic drift, or a massive crash.

Shit. He is in 50 at 5k rpm in first.lol goes you never drove an gt car. When hes in second well over 100mph he hits third in these cars quite a bit. Pay attention. He says the gear hes in sometimes.
I always obey the speed limits in weekend country driving with a 911 or S4. I try to keep it under 3 times the limit.

What makes this guy so much better than every other UA-cam car guy is that he can out drive every one of them, and he could care less about what anyone thinks. These other guys are putting around L.A. having no idea how to even shift a DSG and they care more about shows and who's seeing them drive down the road. This guy is out there alone just absolutely killing it. He wants to pass cafe bikes that are doing 120. He puts each car through its paces.. He's a great driver and he loves to drive. He does not care what anyone else thinks, he's in it for the experience.

I find myself agreeing with this more and more as time goes on. The Pista is something else but I don't think anything else comes close for the an all rounder at the money they are now.
The sound feels like a 458 that hasn't been pushed all the way to its max rpm
+Francis Arnaud I don't know exactly what max RPM ferrari sounds like, but I'll take Matt's word for it when he talks about taking it to 8000 in the video.
That's because of the turbo chargers. They take some of the noise away, as well as not revving as high
the redline difference is of a 1000rpms. 8000rpm's for the 488 9000 for the 458. not a huge difference though. the sound is different because of different engine designs.

+MegaSturrup i cried, when i was informed the end of the naturally aspirated 4.5l v8 in the 458 and that they'll implement the new 4.0l biturbo v8 in the new 488gtb. I mean ferrari could have been waiting with that downsizing shit.

Gotta understand that theres always going to be people whining and complaining about something. It's 2016 and people are still whining that 911s are liquid cooled. Ok yes, the 488 doesn't sound as good as a 458, but it still sounds pretty damn good and its a better car in just about every other way. Also keep in mind, the 288 GTO and F40 were TT v8s, and those are considered by many to be the best cars to ever be assembled by the firm, so this is by no means sacrilege.
The 288 and F40 had turbos yes but for different purposes. They were for adding hp to small engines for bug power. Not fuel efficiency like the 488 is.
Clayton Cortina There is unfortunately no defeating regulations anymore. Ferrari did it for as long as they could and sadly I see lamborghini eventually going that direction as well.

This is a nice looking Ferrari, but I would have liked it more if it had a naturally aspirated V10 that sounds like the old Formula One cars.

Ah yes a production car with a 3L V10 that revs to a casual 19,000 RPM.
I'm sure that won't have a warranty longer than 15 hours as the engines that made that great sound lasted a race weekend and that was it.
There's also the fact that Ferrari has never used a V10 in their road cars and only made a V10 in their Formula 1 cars because of the regulations in Formula 1 at the time.
With the way emissions standards are now you will never see another new naturally aspirated and non-hybrid Ferrari ever again.
It's sad, but it's the only reality.

The Ferrari FXX with its V12 sounded very similar to a V10 F1 car, even though it's engine was not able to rev 18,000rpm.
I guess all Ferraris can't sound exactly the same for model variation. Most people who can actually afford a Ferrari probably do not want an excessively loud exhaust sound anyway.

This seems like one of those amazing cars that goes so fast that you go into a corner thinking holy shit I'm going too fast but then brakes easily slow you down and the turn in is beautiful and the rush of excitement you get from making the turn not just okay but beautifully is overwhelming. I'm usually an American car guy but this thing looks awesome and I agree it seems way under priced.

Keys to flying under the radar is knowing your environment, knowing the type of people that will drive the same road, and looking ahead as far as you can. Sometimes on coming traffic signal what's ahead. If you see a biker tap their helmet slow down.
I guess I'm just paranoid about cops on backroads from bad luck episodes several years back. I normally don't drive hard unless there's no one else on the road and I can physically see that there's not a cop sitting around a corner or something. Maybe once I get away from a cdl career I won't be as paranoid.

That being said, this was an excellent one take, pretty cool car.

Might just be my favorite one take yet. In this video, you seem much more casual and relaxed, even compared to some of your other one takes. It could be do to the fact that you've had time to get comfortable with the car, that the car is just so good, or that you don't have to worry about holding a conversation with a passenger, but I like it a lot. This longer, more casual form of video is really great when the car itself is so damn cool. Keep it up, man.
Driving a supercar at speed is very easy. Driving some crazy tuner car at speed is much different. There's always some component, some weak link somewhere, that keeps the car from feeling as comfortable at speed.
Idk why everyone is complaining about the turbocharged engine. Ferrari has to adapt to changing times. All its rivals have switched to turbocharging. They still make NA V12's. The 488 is a great car and if I had the money, id buy one. It sounds okay, but the 458 didn't sound that great either.
+W-James not just competitive challenge, European regulations are forcing the changes.
+Trey Quattro Carfection just released a review of the California T and commented on turbocharging. They said that Ferrari has a reputation to uphold and they won't just release a half hearted turbocharged engine. They will only launch the turbocharged engine when it meets their high standards and customer expectations.

Top review. I finally just drove one these here in Hong Kong. Truly amazing car, but just way too much power for the road. Same reason I sold my 599 GTB. The newer cars today all need race tracks. I'll be honest. I actually get more enjoyment in my daily driver, a 2018 Mini Cooper S six speed manual.

Great take as usual! I just can't agree that a car this astronomically expensive is "worth every penny". Aside from Ferrari exclusivity there are a few cars that cost ~half as much that are just at fast (at least on a track). I'm sure it's a great car...just not something I could see spending money on (you know...assuming I was stupid wealthy).

+U2 Guitar Tutorials most force-inducted engines doesn't sound as good as a naturally aspirated ones, but a little tweak on the exhaust system would solve the problem just fine. take GTR for instance, V6 turbo, powerful & efficient, sounds great when paired with the right aftermarket exhaust and tuned properly.

I remember an engineer talking about how they alleviated most the of turbo noise in the induction sound to punctuate the engine note. I think they did a fine job!
