Update: check out projectile which seems to become airborne as vehicle passes. Immediately prior to impact, you can see it has a blurry speck located at the rear of car guys head @18:49 Due respect, I don’t believe a stone the size of which would be lodged in a tire tread, traveling in a parallel path like that can impart enough force to make the window fail. The failure was obviously caused by stress on the window. What would cause that much stress? It seems to me to be one of three scenarios. First, and least likely, it could’ve resulted from a manufacturing defect in the glass itself. Secondly, could have resulted from improper mounting of the window. Perhaps the vehicle was worked on previously. Other than that it may have resulted from a projectile originating from a location perpendicular to the vehicle.
So many variables, and you should also note that the 458 is depreciating. Better value is a direct function of usage and inflation. And as a drivers car, the 488 is MILES better than the 458.
@@AB-80X But the interior is almost the same, and the speedometer is the same, well, the 458 italia originally would have a 370km/h speedometer, but they leaved it in 360km/h instead 370km/h, so the 458 would be faster than 488 GTB for 10km/h, I don't take account the want everyone call top speed, because top speed is only a speed record, isn't the max, the max is what gives you the speedometer, the 488 GTB is 360km/h and the 458 have the same, but originally gonna had a 370km/h speedometer, if you don't believe I will let here a link of some images official video of the 458 italia.
@@playgt326 Best I ever personally saw in a 458 Italia was 335 on gps @ 8900 rpm. So far the best I've seen in a 488 Spider was 341 @ 7500 rpm. The Italia was definitely maxed, as we could pin it for about 4-5 minutes. The 488 may have had a kph or two left, but it was pretty much done at that speed. If a 458 runs 339 gps, that's definitely only in perfect conditions where the DA is low and temps are down.
I must have watched this at least 3-4 times over the last month. In my opinion I love the 458 and would have it over the 488. That being said, I do believe that these are two of the most beautiful cars on the road.....I will have one soon!
And that’s the reason why I’m on my second 458. Had a 458 Italia, now in a Spider. Roof down in a tunnel, 3rd gear Race mode and just listen to that engine scream all the way up the Rev counter! The 458 is such a beautiful design, aggressive yet subtle. A truly remarkable car that will no doubt go down as one of Ferrari's great production vehicles... and that engine note!

I think the Ferrari 488 GTB look better, it is faster and handle better but the 458 Italia exhaust sounded so much better then the 488 GTB. It is a very a hard decision.
Well, I doubt it, as long as it rolls on road legal tyres, there are simply physical limitations... so an acceleration below 2.5s to 62mph is unlikely, no matter what engine you put into the car.
And I'm a little sad about that. End of the line for the NA V8 Ferraris. The more I think about it, the more I think that 458 has to be a keeper. Decades-long legacy to uphold.

Agree, 488 is much quicker in a straight line and on a roadcourse. 8mph more in the quarter mile, loads more torque. I am not sure where these guys get their data. Of course the 458 engine is better sounding and that means a lot, but it really is the only feature that is better unless you count price.
I go for the 458 even though the 488 is FASTER on track. Dont think i will ever see a more attractive car. And,the economic benefits will be much greater with the 458 in the future,nudge nudge..
If I decide to sell my P-car I'll look for a 458. Love the looks since day one, and the sound, no turbo for me... I've already found two local 458's and I'm not even looking!
The F458 looks better. The F488's body looks over designed and messy where as the F458 body looks cleaner. F458 interior, especially the dash looks better too. Engines with turbos can also fail so its great the F458 doesn't have one and is naturally aspirated. The engine/exahust noise on the F458 sounds heaps better then the F488. Unfortunately the F488 and the Corvette Z06 look similar which makes the F458 look more distinct.

I like the shape of the wheels on the 458 too. I always liked the the overall styling 458 over the 488. Not sure I like the white though. It has to be a red for me, that's a Ferrari. Especially if I can have just one.
458 by far, I was driving it for about an hour in 2013 and I still have smile on my face. That acceleration from 120 to 220kmh and noise from the engine... my god... WELL DONE GUYS 👏

I thought the 488 did 0..60 in 2.9s and the 458 in 3.4s (?) and also the rev limiters are 9'000 in 458 and 8'000 in 488 (?) Very enjoyable vlog...Damien your a very lucky man to have both and the rest of your fantastic garage. If I had the choice of these two it'd be the 458 the best modern Ferrari since the 355 and a far most evocative design, whereas the 488 appears more function over form. At this time, I don't think 458 prices will raise but remain firm around £160k+ for spiders and low mileage examples, whereas the 488 will depreciate further, mainly because of its Turbo engine which I don't think will experience a growth in appreciation (in collectiability terms) the way the 458 will do as time passes. But if the 488 is a car that your not going to hang onto and creates an avenue to a "Pista"...well then it's money well spent!

I bought the 458 and the 430 when I came to CA, sold them and bought another 458 in 2017....Mostly rode the Repsol Honda motorcycle when I was in CA because the traffic is so bad
I think the 458 is better on the whole, preferably without being attacked on country roads though haha. That must've been scary having the windows smash right next to you! I do think that wireless keys are ok but I prefer a normal key. I don't like that wireless keys can be hacked to steal your car.

Anyone who has driven and heard a 458 is so disappointed by the sound of the 488 that nobody really cares how much more torque you have because the 458 isn't that much slower and sounds like heaven. Pretty sure there will be a significant price difference between those two in 40 Years.
458 for the naturally aspirated engine and the sound. Plus the 488 is so damn fast, I rather redline more often than to have to stop. I really don't think I need that power in my life. Around 500hp is perfect for me on any 3000 to 3500 ish pound car. Honestly anything over or around 350 on a 3000 pound car is fine with me.
Hell no if you get a 488 with a 458 engine your car is going to be slower the 488 is way faster than the 458 the only thing that could make sense is the other way around if you love the 458 look and change the engine to get the 488 so your car is faster but honestly the 458 is a gorgeous car but looking at it now it aged pretty quickly looking the aventador look not that old compare to that the best is still the laferrari but for his price the 488 is better

Can you please compare the 360 CS to the 458 Italia. They are roughly the same price right now (US) but in terms of technology, miles apart. Did I say please?
Best looking and best driving Ferrari in my opinion it’s the 458 . I had the Ferraris from the 430 onwards and all the 911 turbos since the 993 turbo. There is no car better than the 458 ,it is really saturating all your senses. If I had one criticism would be it’s brakes that they don’t give you a solid feedback.
The 488 is a much better looking car. The front fascia is more seamless in design and has a toned down LaFerrari type look. The 458 while pretty has some weird features. Not a fan of the panel gap between the headlamps and the hood.
Obviously, you have NOT tested the cars on max speed. While I do LOVE the 458 over the 488, 458 will struggle to reach 200mph. 9000rpms is just too special on 458 but if you compare a 50mph-120mph acceleration, the 488 will ANNIHILATE the 458. Engine sound, the 458 is SPECIAL. All around driving comfort, the 488 outdoes the 458. In the end, choice is personal BUT, as far as turbos go, you have to admit the 458 engine sound makes the Porsche Turbo and McLaren wheezy.
In defense of the 488, the o-60 time is quicker than 458 but after 60, the 488 will pull away. I've dragged a friend's 488 and there's no mid range power comparison. The top end number is irrelevant because who's going 200 mph in the real world.
What a pair of likeable chaps. For a guy like me working in a warehouse, currently driving a £4,000 VW Passat I can only dream of these cars but these videos certainly give me a glimpse in to a dream world. Like most I have a car at certain price points. After the M Sport estates, on to the 911’s, when I crack £100,000 in dream money it’s the 458. I had five laps at Elvington in one as birthday presents, even though I’d guess I got to 60 in 10 seconds and barely hit 80mph it blew my mind to drive such an incredible car. For me as beautiful and classy as cars come.
The 458 is an all time great. Ferrari had to develop a completely new engine in mid cycle, the budget went to the engine development not the chassis. So the 488 was slightly under-engineered and the design was rushed. The complete new model will be out next year it will be fearsome
TheCarGuys.TV yes the late Marchionne have an interview confirming a new V8 hybrid platform was already in mule form. I think Ferrari are committed to the glorious NA V12’s so the V8 platform has to take one for the team to keep within the silly emissions regulations

Very enjoyable vlog...Damien your a very lucky man to have both and the rest of your fantastic garage. If I had the choice of these two it'd be the 458 the best modern Ferrari since the 355 and a far most evocative design, whereas the 488 appears more function over form. At this time, I don't think 458 prices will raise but remain firm around £160k+ for spiders and low mileage examples, whereas the 488 will depreciate further, mainly because of its Turbo engine which I don't think will experience a growth in appreciation (in collectiability terms) the way the 458 will do as time passes. But if the 488 is a car that your not going to hang onto and creates an avenue to a "Pista"...well then it's money well spent!

I bought the 458 and the 430 when I came to CA, sold them and bought another 458 in 2017....Mostly rode the Repsol Honda motorcycle when I was in CA because the traffic is so bad

I think the 458 is better on the whole, preferably without being attacked on country roads though haha. That must've been scary having the windows smash right next to you!
I do think that wireless keys are ok but I prefer a normal key. I don't like that wireless keys can be hacked to steal your car.

Anyone who has driven and heard a 458 is so disappointed by the sound of the 488 that nobody really cares how much more torque you have because the 458 isn't that much slower and sounds like heaven. Pretty sure there will be a significant price difference between those two in 40 Years.

For me 458 is the best
458 for the naturally aspirated engine and the sound. Plus the 488 is so damn fast, I rather redline more often than to have to stop. I really don't think I need that power in my life. Around 500hp is perfect for me on any 3000 to 3500 ish pound car. Honestly anything over or around 350 on a 3000 pound car is fine with me.

488 is better looking but 458 is last pinifqrina and last NA. Turbos is not the way to go, as the downsizing isn’t. So 458 spider is my choice.

Hell no if you get a 488 with a 458 engine your car is going to be slower the 488 is way faster than the 458 the only thing that could make sense is the other way around if you love the 458 look and change the engine to get the 488 so your car is faster but honestly the 458 is a gorgeous car but looking at it now it aged pretty quickly looking the aventador look not that old compare to that the best is still the laferrari but for his price the 488 is better

Performance 488 is better than the 458 BUT in my humble opinion the F430 rear and side lines are nicer than his younger brothers ones.
Personally i would go for the 458 in the same color scheme as your 488. That window scared the $h!t out of me. If it was a rock from the land rover i hope it didn’t damage the door paint aswell

What I can't grasp is why Ferrari stopped using Pininfarina to design their cars? The 458 is the way better looking one. The 488 was designed in-house. No thanks Ferrari. Go back to Pininfarina.

Best looking and best driving Ferrari in my opinion it’s the 458 .
I had the Ferraris from the 430 onwards and all the 911 turbos since the 993 turbo.
There is no car better than the 458 ,it is really saturating all your senses.
If I had one criticism would be it’s brakes that they don’t give you a solid feedback.

The 488 is a much better looking car. The front fascia is more seamless in design and has a toned down LaFerrari type look. The 458 while pretty has some weird features. Not a fan of the panel gap between the headlamps and the hood.

Obviously, you have NOT tested the cars on max speed. While I do LOVE the 458 over the 488, 458 will struggle to reach 200mph. 9000rpms is just too special on 458 but if you compare a 50mph-120mph acceleration, the 488 will ANNIHILATE the 458. Engine sound, the 458 is SPECIAL. All around driving comfort, the 488 outdoes the 458. In the end, choice is personal BUT, as far as turbos go, you have to admit the 458 engine sound makes the Porsche Turbo and McLaren wheezy.
A wonderfully unbiased entertaining review. Two great cars even though one key looks like a bar of soap. I just wish I could afford any Ferrari.

In defense of the 488, the o-60 time is quicker than 458 but after 60, the 488 will pull away. I've dragged a friend's 488 and there's no mid range power comparison. The top end number is irrelevant because who's going 200 mph in the real world.

For a guy like me working in a warehouse, currently driving a £4,000 VW Passat I can only dream of these cars but these videos certainly give me a glimpse in to a dream world.
Like most I have a car at certain price points. After the M Sport estates, on to the 911’s, when I crack £100,000 in dream money it’s the 458.
I had five laps at Elvington in one as birthday presents, even though I’d guess I got to 60 in 10 seconds and barely hit 80mph it blew my mind to drive such an incredible car. For me as beautiful and classy as cars come.
The 458 is an all time great. Ferrari had to develop a completely new engine in mid cycle, the budget went to the engine development not the chassis. So the 488 was slightly under-engineered and the design was rushed. The complete new model will be out next year it will be fearsome

TheCarGuys.TV yes the late Marchionne have an interview confirming a new V8 hybrid platform was already in mule form. I think Ferrari are committed to the glorious NA V12’s so the V8 platform has to take one for the team to keep within the silly emissions regulations
