Normally RZA samples chinese Kung-Fu flicks in Wu-Tang Clan’s music. But for GZA’s album (Liquid Swords) he samples a Japanese samurai film called Shogun Assassin because unlike the multiple agile movements from the shaolin and Wu-Tang sword technique in the kung Fu films, GZA’s bars are more straight forward, cutting u with a single blow like the sword of Japanese samurai or shogun.
Yeah man I’m surprised on how big there influence was I was never exposed to it. I’m glad to be able to enjoy this piece or rap history and have you guys relive it along the way !!
I love to see the younger generation listen to our music and like it and appreciate it. Definitely subscribed to your channel. Thank you for showing love to the roots of hip hop
@@VloneFrankI actually grew up in the mid 80s and the 90s. My older cousin brought me to Hip Hop and the Wu in '96. I started off with Ghostface's Ironman, ODB's Return to the 36 Chambers and Enter the Wu Tang. After Wu Tang Forever was released I often went to the CD store on my own and I also listened to GZA's LS and Raekwon's OB4CL as I was hungry for more Wu stuff. Problem back then: there was a desk with several CD Players and an employee had to put in the CDs or switch them for everybody. You only had one button on your side and could not fast forward with that. Only skipping to the next track was possible. So me as a youngster being impatient and taking no time to listen to these two albums put them back in the shelfs and did not buy. What a big mistake! Then came the club times and I lost myself in R'n'B music. That was about the time when real Hip Hop died. In 2014 it was my cousin again reminding me of the good old golden age Hip Hop times. He started to buy and rebuy plenty of old albums and I did the same. So at the age of 30 I finally purchased Liquid Swords and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and could not believe that I had slept on these for about 17 yrs... What I want to say: it is never too late to discover the gems from the 90s!
I still say "I seen it, like a 20 inch Zenith.. believe it" and "Arm leg leg arm we form like Voltron, and drop a bomb" (Killarmy) and I probably patterned my talk and mannerisms after Cap, Ghost and Rae.. mayb some meth too.
"so deep its picked up on radio and tunnels" he saying wu tang is underground (deep tunnels) but its still picked up on the radio. GZA says this alot in his rhymes, how wu tang kept it underground, they never conformed to mass appeal (dope song from gangstarr) yet they STILL made it big.
You got one of the best reaction channels going!! Keep building Bro!! I know you luv the Wu and Nas you should react to Grand Finale ft Nas, Method Man Ja Rule and DMX!! Straight 🔥🔥🔥!! Peace
Watching u listening to all this wu is like a religious zealot seeing someone get saved. Real talk. Imma 42 year old cat from Chicago, these albums in the 90s saved my mind and soul.
Peace, sun. Great reaction and you display knowledge most your age don’t have. The 90s were WILD!!! Lot of fun but they were active in making us an endangered species. That aspect is t emphasized enough to your generation but you’re catching it by listening to the real from that era.
I know its my age, was in HS when this dropped bit it still blows my mind when people say they haven't heard these tracks. Shit was the soundtrack to my youth. Forever.
Yo, when you said that part with you can feel them having a good time making it, thats exactly what i feel about every artist i really like. I like a lot of (old) music, but the common denominator is that feeling that they had fun when they made it.
I wish I could explain the energy around the releases, especially here in the uk them days. Had to wait 3 months for the uk releases or for dj’s to come back with stuff and play.
I got a song that those in the know will remember that you'll appreciate: Broken Language by smoothe the hustla. It's one of those that you'll never know about if not from my era, but once you hear it you'll never forget it. Bars!
The sample is actually from a samurai movie (Japanese) this time instead of the usual kung fu (Chinese) samples. Pretty sure this is from the "Lone Wolf and Cub" series.
"Duel of the Iron Mic" - GZA "Ice Cream" - Wu-Tang Clan "Funky For You" - Nice & Smooth "Hip Hop Junkies" - Nice & Smooth "Early To Rise" - Nice & Smooth "Strictly Business" - EPMD "You Gots To Chill" - EPMD "Young,Gifted & Black" - Big Daddy Kane "Second Round KO"(LL Cool J Diss) - Canibus "The Ripper Strikes Back"(Canibus Diss) - LL Cool J "Bud Mutha" - Lord Finesse & Dj Mike Smooth "Funky Technician" - Lord Finesse & Dj Mike Smooth
Man I would LOVE if you did Cage - Agent orange…..he actually used “people said his brain was infected by devils” in the chorus, he’s such a good rapper
That’s a great argument. It’s definitely dope.. it depends on the season! The Gza & Method Man 1st solos were made for the Winter time. Raekwon, Ghostface, ODB & Cappadonna were Summer time vibes!
U on a roll but it was soo much heat at this period in time. U should look into doing some boot camp click. At the time they was the only crew really holding the weight wit the wu
This is what is sick about wu tang. Who is the best. 9 completely different flows. It's mad hard to know which one is the best. The trick is not to try and figure it out, just combine them in your mind so they can form like voltron.
I'm sorry I can't understand this. I'm on break at work and I literally just worked harder watching this video trying to catch wat u say. But no hate do ur thing good luck
