Everyones like "this came from blank" bitch my siblings were saying this back in the nintendo 64 days of Goldeneye. It didnt come from anybody, that shits been around for decades before the twitch simps.
@@GamezPDD Bitch, thank you for reiterating my point. :) It was popularized in the platform fighter community by Isai, who is one of the GOATs of Smash 64 (on the Nintendo 64).
Dope video super informative! As a Zetter player definitely have been struggling in neutral against players that have a clear gameplan of how to wall out my approaches. One thing that has helped me out some though is actually getting hit while crouch cancelling at lower percents and getting an opening from that.
I want someone to make a video that goes more in depth into what is safe and unsafe on shield. Its more important in traditional fighting games, but its still widely applicable to Rivals. For instance, what are the fastest options you need to watch for each character? Does every character have a safe move? Are ariels usually better, or down tilts, etc. Theres so much there to cover.
There really is so much to cover. Aerials being safe on shield depends on how low to the ground you land the attack and sometime you can space well enough for time to dash back
Neutral is probably the most misunderstood and neglected element of gameplay in fighters. I strongly recommend _"lloD's Guide to Improvement"_ for a detailed explanation of neutral game, particularly in platform fighters.
Oddly enough, as a long time Overwatch player I've found that many of the rules of engagement in Overwatch are also true in Rivals. Taking space, avoiding getting hit, knowing when to engage, knowing when to zone, etc.
I like Llod's perspective on neutral; that even in the middle of a combo, there are moments of neutral (so long as the combo isn't true, of course). That mindset has helped me a lot with finding options for reversals.
Thanks for this. Could you do a disadvantage / defensive guide as well? I feel like I'm getting juggled despite my DI and i know this game has several more options like Melee that Ultimate didn't
Isai was the one that said 'don't get hit'. The 5 gods are Mang0, Hbox, Armada, M2k, and Dr.PP... You're not wrong, 'don't get hit' is paramount to neutral, but it wasn't one of the 5 gods that said it. That's it, that's my irrelevant nitpick lol. Awesome video, great information, and the community appreciates your efforts to help educate and inform 👌👍
the big trick I've found is prioritizing touching the edge of the stage over making it onto the stage. If you aim for the stage directly, it's easy to predict your trajectory and edgeguard you. If you let yourself recover a bit lower and touch the wall first so you can tech off it, you have far more options for how to recover. It's scary at first if you're not used to it, but it's even good to use in neutral once you are.
@ Thanks for this. Seriously. That is EXACTLY my problem. Especially with Kragg and Clairen and even Ranno. I’m finding it easier to recover with Fleet but want to get better at stage recovery.
@@tonydak8573 Wall jump and then Air dodging to the ledge will often get you there without up special and is a good timing mix up if you aren't getting hit towards the wall to tech it first too. Since there isn't a ton of experienced players right now you will probably have more chances to experiment with your options now than ever, just have fun and don't take learning the game seriously. If you notice someone is far better you'll learn faster than just beating up people as well - as long as you're paying attention to where and why you're losing your exchanges you can put work into those areas.
@@tonydak8573 My pleasure! I mostly play Clairen, and with her for example, getting in a side-B (either before or after your airjump) so you can tech off the wall is almost always how I recover. From there I can do up-B to grab ledge, then side-B if they are right at the ledge, invincible fair if they're a bit further back, ledgedash into shield grab, or just reset and kinda play a neutral mixup from the ledge by just teching off the wall and regrabbing a few times before making my acutal recovery. One thing you should know though if you recover right at the ledge or get hit near the wall is how to ledgetech (basically just press shield when getting hit while touching the wall). I strongly suggest you look the technique up and practice it, especially if you play Zetter.
I think CC and Move Trading need to be mentioned as well. It's not as simple as "don't get hit". Sometimes you want to get hit in order to land your own counter-hit. Also move safety depends heavily on %s
I'm having a lot of time (as Zetterburn) playing vs campy / shield happy Lox, I tend to have a hard time in Neutral. I feel like even if I'm crossing over their shield, I get hit by one of his many moves that cover both ways, definitely the matchup that makes me work the most
Can you do a video on shielding/grabs? i come from fighting games and its really fuzzy on the specifics on when im safe to let go of shield or when i shoud/shouldnt grab
Just started playing some MultiVersus and I found myself not really knowing what to do overall. Like, I know how to play the game on a basic level, but wasnt sure what the next level thought pattern was. What's my goal other than just hitting my opponent, ya know? I think I understand a bit better now how to actually form a game plan. I'll have to check out Rivals of Aether 2 someday as well.
If youre looking for another ftp plat fighter, i highly recommend brawlhalla - its often left out of plat fighter discussions which i think is a shame because it has very easy to learn gameplay but a lot of unique and interesting mechanjcs
Maybe this is a dumb question but how do you throw out a move when you're in the frame advance? I have to throw it, immediately pause and then go into frame advance
Off topic, but what leagues does Wartburg compete in overwatch? I've been a coach for a collegiate OW team for a while competing in ECAC and NECC but I don't know if there are other leagues we might want to keep an eye on.
"Learn what moves are good combo starters with your character" How am I supposed to learn this? I'm completely new to fighter games, I feel like this is something a lot of more experienced players gloss over. I don't even know where to start like what is the criteria for a good opener? Same thing for "What are my character's strengths and weaknesses?" Like you gave a couple examples but I don't play any of the characters you mentioned, I would rather you have just told us *how* to find those strengths/weaknesses for any character
The nuances of individual characters' strengths and weaknesses are always evolving as the players and meta mature. My best advice is to start with joining character discords to learn your character and visit other discords for matchups you're trying to learn. People are usually friendly and can answer questions, there are usually community resources for tech that get regularly updated, and you can match make with character experts for advice!
Watching character specific guides will probably help. I have a ranno guide on my channel. Most combo starters are things like a down tilt that will pop someone up allowing you to hit them again
He said Zetter wants to get close and have the enemy character shield, but like nothing seems safe on shield as Zetter. It seems better to poke with my fireball causing them to position badly and then take advantage with that. What am I missing? I'm new so its prob something obvious I just dont know.
depends on the matchup but good shine pressure can force panic options out of shield which can then be punished. Also be sure to cross up on shield as zetter
"Don't get hit" comes from Isai, a precursor to the melee 5 gods. He was the partner to Ken in doubles, and a god of smash 64 himself.
