One note to add about moonwalk: If you have tap jump off, you can moonwalk with half-circle up instead, which has the benefit of letting you moonwalk on platforms.
You are the greatest kind of teacher. Taking very important focus points in this game, and sharing every important detail about them. No new players get this knowledge without people like you man. Thank you so much.
Old melee player here again. You have opened my eyes to how much smoother this game really is with options for each tech. 3 different ways to drop from ledge, 3 for shield drop etc. The game feels like how I always wanted a platform fighter to feel, and with Carpal Tunnel, I can finally play at a higher level and not feel like I need to Claw to protect my hands. Great video as always, and Grats on the 1k subs! You deserve it!
I do still like melee better overall even though I'd call rivals 2 a "better" game, I would never expect a modern game to have no buffer but it does give you a unique level of control that literally can't be offered by games with it, but rivals 2 is super refreshing regardless after all the fake hype around multi versus and nick all star
You should really try a leverless controller. I could play for like 1 hour before the hand pain got too unbearable. I now play for like 5 hours with no issue. If you have hand pain I think it is an invaluable purchase
Concise. That is how I would describe this channel in one word, and when making guides, that's paramount in my opinion. Keep it up! Would love to see character guides, neutral guides, disadvantage/advantage, and whatever else you can think of!
These videos have helped me so much starting out in rivals 2 having not participated in the beta. At this rate you'll hit 2k subs before your next upload!
Incredible video! Thank you for taking the time to go over all of the tech with example and going over the inputs. This video was very helpful for me :) I hope you have a good rest of your day
Great video! Thank you for making this. I would of also liked to have seen a more advanced option for using 2 shield buttons, and that is wave dashing out of shield. Since there are 2 shield buttons you use one to shield while using the other to wave dash. It can be done only using only 1 shield button, but it is so much easier to use 2.
Hey first off thanks for these videos! This is my first platform fighter and they've been extremely helpful. I've been following your drills and doing things similar to this in the practice tool before this video, however I've been finding it hard to stay cognizant of movement options and implement them during matches due to the fast pace of the game. Any tips on bridging that gap between play and training? Thanks again for these helpful videos!
The best way to implement it in game is to really focus on movement while playing. You are probably going to play worse at first while doing this. That is okay. But if you don't completely force yourself to implement new things from practice, you will never start doing it. Losing rank is okay. Rank is temporary. Skill is forever.
Thanks for this guide. Came from melee, but there was a lot of things I didn't know. i have been holding the stick diagonally down when doing wavedash cuz that is how its done in melee and PM, so I was wondering why my wavedash looked so short.
nice guide, what would be really helpful i think is a guide on general strategies on how to think about the game for beginners. this is the kind of explanation I have done several times and it'd be great if I could point to a video doing a better job at it [3:33 PM]Sharnt: the first step is to make a guess as to what your opponent is going to do, then setup a situation that'll beat it [3:38 PM]Sharnt: say, you've gotten stage control, they're cornered, a basic guess could be, they'll want to fh over you and escape so you cover that option to do so as clairen you have several possibilities, let's say there is no platforms you may position yourself so that if they FH you can react and anti air with utilt you may try to swat them out of the air pre emptively with sh fair you may try to go at their height with a neutral fh fair etc [3:38 PM]Sharnt: which option you want to pick depends on what you want to cover specifically [3:39 PM]Sharnt: waiting and reacting with utilt may lose to dash grab or something else that sh fair would win against etc [3:39 PM]Sharnt: so it's a game of guessing the intent of your oppoenent and the vectors through which they'll want to do it [3:39 PM]Sharnt: and edging your bet with different options
I definitely want to make a video like this! I think it will be tricky to do well so once I have a good idea of how to make it good, I'll get to work on it!
Just a side not on when you enter running animation; you can interrupt the running animation with crouch and it allows you to change run direction faster than if you go through the whole turn around animation.
Great video! I noticed you using the c-stick for attacks a lot, even when doing fast shuffle aerials. How do you go between both of the thumbsticks and the jump button so fast? Some kind of claw grip? I understand it's advantageous to use the c-stick for directional attacks in those situations so you don't have to change direction super quick with the movement stick, but how do I do that?
As a melee player I forget that short hops are a thing new players struggle with. One of my favorite things has been watching the RoA2 discord. And watching people learn how to wavedash or all these techniques that I struggled with for hours that are just fluid now. I am kinda glad we dont have to L cancel but I still do the input every time out of habit. Anyways this game is sick. I love being able to do smash attacks out of dash without needing to wavedash or shield stop first or needing perfect pivots. The baby dash for spacing is HUGE on clairen. I was struggling with them until I started using baby dash for spacing and it made a huge difference. I mean its basically a perfect pivot with less skill lol. I love the B reverse/wave bounce in this game. Its sort of there in melee but far better in PM/P+ and its one of my favorite things to do in that game. Having it so easy to do in this game is super nice. I think the video I need most at the point is the tricks for every character. Like how maypuls tether can be influenced by holding left, right, or neutral. Or for zetter how you can dash attack into upsmash. Are there other charaters with this tech? I am hoping people find crazy tech like samus super wavedash. Or Marios double up B wall jump in melee in this game and the devs leave it in. The little bugs that make melee, melee.
I have a distinct memory of trying to double laser with fox and thinking it was impossible when i first started playing melee. Now I can just do it. It's always so nice to see progress in games
If you're interested in Zetterburn's dash attack cancelled into up smash, that's a special DACUS case where you're still able to cancel the dash attack after the hitbox comes out. It was called a gatling combo back in Brawl, and a handful of characters can do it in PM/P+ (including Jigglypuff, which looks very funny).
I was wondering where I recognized the tag from, I've run into you quite the few times during casuals, the black forsburn -Topple. I wouldn't mind some content for MU tech with basic things like parrying bubbles from Orcane or general advice tidbits on how to deal with shine spam from Zetterburn.
Moonwalking is WAY easier on the d-pad if you let it allow movement, You basically just have to rock across the bottom part of it, and for me, it's WAY more consistent (plus you can't accidentally taunt if your finger slips)
Thanks for the guide! Do you know what the different options do for "right stick" ? There's reverse, adaptative and stuff like it that I don't really understand Edit : I just saw the end of the video, I'm so glad you get visibility and viewers and all, you deserve it, you do a great job here.
Reverse and adaptative IF I'm not wrong are for wrastor because of air smashes, one does air smash and tilts on the ground and the other I don't remember exactly.
How exactly are you getting wavedash back to ledge without turning around?? Even if I do it diagonal down towards ledge I turn around every time. Thanks in advance! Love the content.
Hello I was having the exact same problem. It took some muscle memory relearning but I ended up realizing that you need to do the shield+jump input first and then the direction input a split second later. You are still inputting the three inputs at around the same time but I found that when I delayed the direction input by a little bit then I ended up not doing the auto turnaround.
You can instant rar on keyboard and box btw. Edit: You can also full drift nair without it being bound to grab on box/kb. If someone knows how to moonwalk on kb I will be greatful.
Honestly almost any control scheme works. I think tilt stick is good if you have an extra shoulder button for strong. Otherwise anything works really well
Can you B reverse with Ranno's side B? I haven't tried but it seems like such a big animation that stops you in place so I couldn't imagine it working well
Is there a reason for ledge dashing we cant just jump while holding the ledge and dash immediately? Does it have less invincibility frames if done that way?
How good is wavedashing in this game? As a Zetterburn main I want to do cool waveshine combos and usually dont net much out of it, could just be skill issue though
In neutral you can get away with mostly just dash dancing. But, wave dashing is useful in many scenarios like wave shining wave landing on platforms and ledge dashing. Shining someone’s shield and then wave dashing back can frequently bait out grabs
@ that makes sense. Thanks! This video was really helpful for movement tech in general. I didn’t even know about the shffl coming from ultimate. And I wasn’t even aware that you could continue holding the momentum with a RAR and b-reverse.
nice guide. but very low-quality guide and confusing for beginners. because you are just narrating things. a veteran might understand what you are saying but you are gonna confuse beginner. is this a veteran movement guide?

Ya same, the buffer does lose that pure sense of control. Also means I dont air dodge and die while wavedashing. Its a good change though

[3:38 PM]Sharnt: say, you've gotten stage control, they're cornered, a basic guess could be, they'll want to fh over you and escape
so you cover that option
to do so as clairen you have several possibilities, let's say there is no platforms
you may position yourself so that if they FH you can react and anti air with utilt
you may try to swat them out of the air pre emptively with sh fair
you may try to go at their height with a neutral fh fair
etc
[3:38 PM]Sharnt: which option you want to pick depends on what you want to cover specifically
[3:39 PM]Sharnt: waiting and reacting with utilt may lose to dash grab or something else that sh fair would win against etc

I guess I just move my right thumb quickly? I just press jump and then quickly flick the c stick afterwards
If you don't have years of muscle memory I recommend putting jump on a bumper. Whipping your thumb between buttons is a good way to hurt your thumbs.
@ yeah bumper jump would be soooo much better
