FYI, the 9th gen 2015-2017 Honda Accords do not have the screw in type spark plug tube seals. The tube seals are pressed into the valve cover. So, if the tube seals get hard or leak you will have to buy a new valve cover. This video applies only to the 2013-2014 9th generation Honda Accords.
This is by far the best auto how to video I’ve ever watched. Thank you. Hope you continue making them because you do a damn good job and help a lot of people!
Holy crap! 6 minutes to make this vid is impressive! I was going to make a video on this myself, but decided to take the car into a dealership since I'm due for a valve adjustment (currently @ 138,000mi.) Getting quoted $450 for a valve cover gasket & a valve adjustment. Not the cheapest price but the valve adjustment requires more special tools and expertise than I have Thanks again for the content
Yup, found a place here that specializes on Mazda, but naturally they work on plenty of Hondas. Perks of living in an area with a large asian community. A lot of the guys are older already so they have plenty of experience and the prices are about half of what Honda asks@@adamcartes9569
What an amazing video! I Donate vehicles to people in need and I have a super nice low mileage accord that was leaking. This video was spot on. As someone with big hands it was difficult to get the back connection off as my car had the plastic housing loose. I just undid the alternator wires (12mm socket), and the 3 connectors for that harness and I was able to move everything out of the way. Thanks for making this great video and for it being so time efficient.
A lot of times these valve cover gaskets leak on these engines because of a failed PCV valve. Change that out as well after changing the valve cover gasket.
I was concerned about this as my valve cover gasket starting leaking recently and I suspected the PCV valve. Is it possible it will stop leaking once I've replaced the PCV valve or will it continue to leak once it's started?
Great video! To-the-point information with no unnecessary chatter. Video showed need to know information to include precautions to prevent mistakes. This video sets the example for UA-cam how-to videos.
Thanks for this video! I’ve changed quite a few valve cover gaskets but I found this video extremely helpful in locating what sensors to unclip. The one on the far right that is discussed around 1:20 is definitely a bear to remove and was honestly the most difficult part of this job.
I tried getting it off for a half hour and gave up: pried and wiggled it while pressing the tab but no luck. The clip came apart twice without coming off. More detail on this step would be very useful. I suspect there is a tool or trick to it. Disconnected the harness connections on the front instead (alternator, etc.) like most other videos to move the harness out of the way. I also disconnected the battery.
Thanks and good job on this, simple instruction and direct. Some just like to hear themselves talk. Goin g to tackle it now. I rebuilt engines for 30 years '77-'07 but all these clips and hand traps get me. Thanks again
Well made video. What is the purpose of the little squarish grommet gasket on the middle of the cover? It looks like it communicates with a port going down the block.
I recommend sense your right there for another $50-60 not a bad time to replace your spark plugs!! Most likely if your valve cover gasket gasket s leaking your plugs are prob at that point where replacing them isn’t a bad idea!! I always replace everything I can that is in same area as the job your in there for.. nothing like a new set of fresh NGK plugs !!
The sealer to use on the corners....is that a gasket maker like Permatex Rigid high torque or something like Permatex Ultra Red gasket maker? Those sealers are expensive for the 3oz and it doesn't look like we need to use much.
Hi, just found your channel, nice quick and clean. Just bought a 17 Accord coupe with very low mileage from a Honda dealer, car runs very well and smooth, after taking her home, I did a very close inspection on the engine block, I saw small amount of gunk on engine block corner beneath the plastic cover. I am sure there is a small seepages. I know it is a fairly easy fix but I am surprised to see such a new car already has gasket issue.
Cool, I appreciate you dropping by the channel. Yeah I mean if it's not leaking bad might just want to leave it be and keep an eye on it. Not going to hurt anything that's for sure
@@jessea.3883 I took the car back to the dealer, they insisted nothing wrong. Anyway I had changed the transmission oil, did another oil change myself. I cleaned the area, so far I had another 8k miles on her, it seems running normal. No other issue so far. Keep my fingers cross.
@@wl9399 Good luck, I got my fingers crossed as well. The dealer I've been taking my car to didn't change the spark plugs, and it seems like the coolant leak is in one of the cylinders. I'd say keep on maintaining it yourself. I never had any car issues until I started going to them.
Hey man thanks for the Video where did get the gasket kit with all extra seal for the sparks, because Honda is selling me only the head seal gasket but not the spark gasket
I have a 2014 accord, and inside the engine bay and under the oil pan is all oily. I recently changed the spark plugs and had oil in my 4th plug, so after cleaning it out I decided to check the cover gasket bolts and behold 1 was snapped in half. I can't seem to find the bolts themselves though, I see the kit for the gasket, which I will do, but I wanna replace that bolt. Any suggestions?
I have been searching the entire internet for a video regarding this type engine because all the other videos had older version engine and the configuration is kinda different. You mentioned a link to everything you need to perform this job however I see no link. Help please and thanks for this video. Very helpful.
Hello, thank you for the video. I did have one question, the black plastic cover dressing, over the coils has two stripped screws. My question is, what do you think is the best route for me to take that off. I planned on just replacing the whole valve cover, but of course i need that cover to be off in order to access the plugs and sensors. Thanks again.
I see seeps of kinda oil and sands mixture at bottom right corner, where the silicone is applied. Do you think I should swap out the whole gasket and re-seal with silicone? I just bought my 2.4, and it is at around 35000 miles.
Nice video! Thanks for taking time to document all this work. I plan on doing mine next month. Two quick questions: Is removing that connector in the very back corner (right at timestamp 1:20) necessary? What the heck is a "blow wand"?
A blow wand is basically an air hose. They have a longer neck and can fit into tighter spaces. Probably used to blow out dirt and debris and any left over degreaser from cleaning the vlave cover before taking it off.
I didnt have a torque wrench but did the "star" pattern started on the outside in and got them tight nothing crazy but there probably on there with 15-25pounds is that fine i have 9 damage should i loosen them up a lil??
Wonder how much a repair shop should charge customers to change the valve cover gasket on a 2016 Accord? Just making sure they aren't overcharging me. They quoted me $350 for parts and labor. Is this accurate? Thanks. Just hard to trust dealers too sometimes, cause my wife took her car to get inspected and dealer said she needed to replace 1 headlight bulb and they charged her $80-90 to do it before they would pass inspection. They duped her pretty good IMO, so wasn't too happy about that.
I would pay $350 for the valve cover gasket replacement. If that included labor and parts. At AutoZone the gasket is $60 so figure $135 bucks shop time per hour at 2 hours or more in today's world, $350 ain't terrible.
can you help me find the actual bolt name on this @0:21 what happen is that i changed my sparkplugs and coil and i was almost finishing up everything then i accidently dropped those 3 bolts down there next to washier fluid tank and i was able to retrieve on but the two i cant find it. Now im missing two bolts for the cover and i want to replace but i cant them specifically online. Appreciate your feedback thanks
Changing sparks is easy. 11 bucks a piece for iridium or 19 a piece for laser iridium. Guy part store told me you wont see much difference by using the laser ones.
It does cuz when the RTV sealant dries up, if you did not apply it correctly its gonna create gaps between the gasket and engine block lip. which could become a failure point.
Yeah it'll be fine more than likely. If it made its way down to the oil pan, worst case it gets sucked up into the oil pickup and there's a screen there to catch it. Won't cause any problems

Yes. This information is CORRECT. 2015 -2017 uses an spark plug grommet which is built in the valve cover which can't be serviced separately.

How much did the gasket set cost ya.
how are these amazon valve cover gaskets? Reliable?

In general yes. But if the factory gasket seem pliable and in good shape then probably okay to leave. Still make sure to silicone the corners though
