It's not just that you're one of the musical legends in a scene I love, or that your bands music and the scene it came from is something that directly molded me as a kid from Albany, CA, it's that smile on your face as you play material that's over 30 years old like you're still playing it at a small club like the Gilman. Thank you Matt for everything you do.
I looked for this record for 15+ years and finally found it in a hole in the wall record shop in AZ a few years ago. Original pressing. One of my "prized possessions" held onto it for years through moves and living in my car. Now it's on my wall. Love rancid
I still can't get over how cool these videos are. You have been one of my biggest bass influences since I was 13 years old (Im 38). Young me wouldn't believe this shit!
I still can’t figure out how Matt plays. Sort of like a guitar player? I love the lick he plays in the chorus. So unique for the bass to stand out like this. He is very solid. This brought me back to memory lane. Rancid baby!!
Mr. Freeman really appreciate this!! That 7 inch molded my 92 summer of 6th to 7th grade!! Skating and vandalism was rampant that summer. Do you miss that era of Rancid, the Mickey’s grenades and cigarettes and just jamming to all hours of the night? How was your kids performance? Haven’t heard him drumming lately. Again, do you surmise there’s ever going to be a chance that Mr. Brett Reed joins you guys for an impromptu song or two? That drumming and bass on that song is like a gut punch to get you moving. So much energy!! Happy holidays again sir and thank you so much for keeping us out here entertained during the holiday season. From a US Navy Veteran
I love that 7”! Borrowed it from a neighbour back in the 90s, finally found it at a record shop a couple of years ago and got my yellow reissue in the mail today!
Hi Matt! My hubby, David, & me (Grace) met you in Palmdale, CA for Charger show. You were so kind & humble. Thank you for signing my Let’s Go album & taking a picture with me. Charger show was great & I was happy to support by buying merch. Happy Holidays!
Thank you so much for this! Battering Ram is one of my all-time favorite Rancid songs. It was such a treat. Would you be willing to do my favorite song from Trouble Maker: This is Not the End? Keep going strong Matt!
When was the last time you would’ve played this one live? I love this song and remember getting this ep from the Lookout mail order catalog as a teenager
This was the first like Non LP rancid song I heard as a kid in…2004/05? I loved how different it was compared to like all the shit I knew at the time. Still one of my favorite tracks. Watching you just blast through that pre-verse part is so sick. Wouldn’t hate to see “The Sentence” next 😈
That looked like fun fro here.. dude, I really like when when play and singer together in your Bass Bunker..it just shows how down to earth you are Matt.. Thanks again.. 👍 if you get a chance, can you play along to Just A Feeling.. one of my favourite songs.. I saw you play this live in London, England in the 90s.. such a great song, the whole place was jumping.. thanks.. from Punk Rock Dave in the U.K.. ❤
Definitely one of my favorites. Can you do either Kill the Lights or White Knickle Ride? I have them on a compilation record, and they are crazy songs.
Thankyou Matt! Unreal. I love that you include those extra little bits of info, like what bass you recorded the song with. Those little details are nuggets of gold to people like me! Would love to see a vid of your bass collection and some stories behind your basses!
I love all these vids and we're all grateful for you doing them. I met you in Costa Mesa once and it was a pleasure. I was wondering if you would show us any Devils Brigade songs, or Lady Liberty, Devils Dance, anything with your upright bass if you have it available. Thank you again for the music we grew up with and sharing it with us today
Going deep in the pocket! Love it. I love the way this channel continues to evolve. Best UA-camr who didn't want to be a UA-camr out there. Thank you, Matt!
Thursday’s Got a whole lot better When the legend Mr.Matt Freeman uploads a new Video. Saw Charger in Sacramento,Great show. Would love to see you bust out the stand up and Do “Halfway to Hell” from Devil’s Brigade. Would also like to see “Spirit of ‘87” and “Ghost Band” Happy Holidays to you and your Family Matt!
I wonder if I could live up to the day I can hear you live )) Btw this song sounds great in acoustic version, but unfortunately there is no bass line on the record. It's interesting how would you play it in that style ) Thanx for your art, Mr. Freeman
Great to see you play a song off the first 7"! This thought just popped into my head when you sang the "been running my whole life" line during the play through. What's the origin of you developing that gravely voice to sing since it doesn't at all sound like how you talk and very unique.
Dear Matt, Pease, please please do Maxwell Murder next!!! It's one of the most iconic punk songs of all time and, credit to the other guys but, it's because of your bass playing.
For all the years that I listened to this record, it wasn't until after an almost twenty year break, that I noticed the similarity in the intro to Reel Ten by The Plugz, from the Repo Man soundtrack! Both killer songs and now I can't un-hear it. Was there any inspiration from that song, in this one?
What are you thinking about when you play music Matt? Are you thinking about scales and route notes and music theory or are you hearing the music in your head and your fingers just instinctively go where they need to go? Thanks.
Since you’ve been doing songs outside of rancid you should do some auntie Christ or devils brigade. Upright bass playing would be cool. I remember that song you guys did with Wayne Kramer was cool too. Maybe not right for the channel though?
Hey Matt, it’s Adam.
Thank you so much for considering this song at the Charger show, you made my fucking week.
@@CSW994 your welcome bud. Thanks for coming out.
@ Anytime!! Was a great show.
I see Matt freeman, I click. That’s just how it goes.
Is what it is!
I agree!
Haha I love this comment
My best friend and i ordered this from lookout. My first money order.
I love Lars, but something about those early songs with Matt singing more friggin' bring me back! Sooo good!
I love Lars era. But this and Rancid 1 man just tears my face off🤯!
still the best bass guitarist in the biz
❤that voice!!! Legendary!❤
It's not just that you're one of the musical legends in a scene I love, or that your bands music and the scene it came from is something that directly molded me as a kid from Albany, CA, it's that smile on your face as you play material that's over 30 years old like you're still playing it at a small club like the Gilman. Picked this 7" up at Rasputin's in 95/96. Still listen to it from time to time. Great track, great playing!
I looked for this record for 15+ years and finally found it in a hole in the wall record shop in AZ a few years ago. Original pressing. One of my "prized possessions" held onto it for years through moves and living in my car. Now it's on my wall. Love rancid
This song is so sick. Been listening to it a lot lately.
There really is no bassman like matt freeman, can never get enough of OP IV/rancid...
Love being introduced to new songs through the bass!
I'd love to see you go further back in time with Sound System by Op Ivy.
and i'm still ruuuuuunin''
Was cool seeing you singing your parts while playing. The 1st song on that EP "I'm not the only one" play that for next bunker episode
I still can't get over how cool these videos are. You have been one of my biggest bass influences since I was 13 years old (Im 38). Young me wouldn't believe this shit!
Just made my day, long live Rancid! Best punk rock band ever
Awesome...The Duck line, spot on and it sticks out perfectly in the song. . 👊✌️🤘🏴🎸😎🇦🇺
just wanted to hear him say 5:32
you rule Matt!
Have you done the sentence yet? I love all rancid has to offer but the early days really hit different. Tim and Matt freeman got the music.
That chorus lick while you're singing backups is bending my brain!
2:01 so epic, love you Matt thanks for all your amazing work and for this chanel!
I still can’t figure out how Matt plays. Sort of like a guitar player? I love the lick he plays in the chorus. So unique for the bass to stand out like this. He is very solid. This brought me back to memory lane. Rancid baby!!
I always feel like Rancid is a "lead bass" band.
One of my favorites because Matts vocals and bass really dominate the song!
Cool stuff! I never heard this song before.
I love that 7”! Borrowed it from a neighbour back in the 90s, finally found it at a record shop a couple of years ago and got my yellow reissue in the mail today!
Sac was awesome 🤘 The best shows happen in small venues. Thanks for selling me the hoodie too!
Your videos make me so happy!
Could you do “Brixton?”
Awesome love playing along to these vids. Hope Rancid return to England soon. Really enjoyed the last gigs here 🤘
Hi Matt! My hubby, David, & me (Grace) met you in Palmdale, CA for Charger show. You were so kind & humble. Thank you for signing my Let’s Go album & taking a picture with me. Charger show was great & I was happy to support by buying merch. Happy Holidays!
We finally get to hear Matt sing along with one of the songs he sang on. I still don't get how you sing and play those lines at the same time.
These videos are so much fun to watch and I don't even play an instrument
You're the best Matt. Bass bunker videos makes me always happy. Thanks for sharing
Great video Matt! I love that song and all the songs on that release. I always hoped you guys would dress them up and release newer versions of them.
Thank you so much for this! Battering Ram is one of my all-time favorite Rancid songs. It was such a treat. Would you be willing to do my favorite song from Trouble Maker: This is Not the End? Keep going strong Matt!
This song is sooo badass..
Just got home from work, this is what I need before I go to sleep! Thank you sir!
Fuck yeah! One of my favorites.

Thank you for the wonderful teaching !!
Cool this song and your performance🎶🎸
Loving the new intro!
Watching you play always inspires me to pick up the bass and learn new things.
Keep doing what you’re doing!
When was the last time you would’ve played this one live? I love this song and remember getting this ep from the Lookout mail order catalog as a teenager
Always cool to see you watching us how you do it ! Love the sound of the bass.

Awesome Awesome Awesome!
You’re the best, Matt thank you!
Definitely one of my favorites. Can you do either Kill the Lights or White Knickle Ride? I have them on a compilation record, and they are crazy songs.
I have been begging for white knuckle ride for quite a while
Something very Sham 69 about those little breaks
Would love to see a video for Prisoner's Song! That riff going into the chorus is so catchy.
Keep it old school and do some I'm not the only one🤟
Thankyou Matt! Unreal. I love that you include those extra little bits of info, like what bass you recorded the song with. Those little details are nuggets of gold to people like me! Would love to see a vid of your bass collection and some stories behind your basses!
Thanks Matt!
Thanks Matt, we really appreciate it.
I would love to see that epiphone bass you talked about....even if it doesn't play! Much respect as always keep up the good work I love Bass bunker!
Man I love those bass bunker videos! Thanks Matt!
I'd love to see that Epiphone on the channel if you ever get it running again, that thing sounded really cool on those early recordings
I love all these vids and we're all grateful for you doing them. I met you in Costa Mesa once and it was a pleasure. I was wondering if you would show us any Devils Brigade songs, or Lady Liberty, Devils Dance, anything with your upright bass if you have it available. "Grease and garbage" made my days
Oh, an Epiphone! Always thought that bass was an 80s Charvel, similar looking headstock.
I loved this video so much. Thank you for all the details.
best band
Would love to see some Operation Ivy stuff as well as some Devil’s Brigade! Keep making the videos and ill keep watching em!
That was amazing, awesome video!
Sing a long - yes! Love it!
Matt , do a White Knuckle Ride play through !!!! That is some fast playing on there.
Couldn't be more down to earth if you tried!! Great run through as always and an old track i hadn't heard before but I'll give it a go!!
🔥🔥🔥
Oh I’d go crazy if you guys played this one live. One of my favorites off that first EP. This one and “I’m not the only one” are bangers.
Going deep in the pocket! Love it.
I love the way this channel continues to evolve. Best UA-camr who didn't want to be a UA-camr out there. Thank you, Matt!
Matt, please do a video playing "Meat Market" from Basic Radio! Thanks.
One of my favorites. Thanks
Have you done Detroit yet in one of these? Seriously so great watching your breakdowns before the song.
Matt, could you do a little video of how you approach writing your basslines?
I'm a battering ram coming through ta you!!
Matt you would make my day if you did a playalong to ghost dance, one of my favorite rancid songs, please.
Thursday’s Got a whole lot better When the legend Mr.Matt Freeman uploads a new Video. Saw Charger in Sacramento,Great show. Would love to see you bust out the stand up and Do “Halfway to Hell” from Devil’s Brigade. Would also like to see “Spirit of ‘87” and “Ghost Band” Happy Holidays to you and your Family Matt!
sweet first, lovya Matt
Would love a GGF play through
Would still love the stories on what you got hanging up behind you!
matt can you play something from
basic radio, i know it’s been a while but that’d be the ultimate throwback
Fantastic! Thanks as always. Another Rancid song I need to learn. 😁
I wonder if I could live up to the day I can hear you live ))
Btw this song sounds great in acoustic version, but unfortunately there is no bass line on the record. It's interesting how would you play it in that style )
Thanx for your art, Mr. Freeman
Can you go over the scales you use and how you utilize them when writing bass lines
Hey Matt! Cheers on this treasure! So good! Did Billie Joe ever play this live with you guys back in the day? Before Lars.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Great to see you play a song off the first 7"! This thought just popped into my head when you sang the "been running my whole life" line during the play through. What's the origin of you developing that gravely voice to sing since it doesn't at all sound like how you talk and very unique.
Hey Matt, can you show how you play the intro for The Crowd? Thanx 😎
Dear Matt,
Pease, please please do Maxwell Murder next!!!
It's one of the most iconic punk songs of all time and, credit to the other guys but, it's because of your bass playing.
That stand up bass is just waitin to play some Devils Brigade
For all the years that I listened to this record, it wasn't until after an almost twenty year break, that I noticed the similarity in the intro to Reel Ten by The Plugz, from the Repo Man soundtrack! Both killer songs and now I can't un-hear it. Was there any inspiration from that song, in this one?
I would love a video on that Epiphone bass someday. Is it a Powerbass model? Or an Accubass Jr?
What are you thinking about when you play music Matt? Are you thinking about scales and route notes and music theory or are you hearing the music in your head and your fingers just instinctively go where they need to go? Thanks.
Bring charger to the uk matt 🙏
Do- beauty of the pool hall off troublemaker
Would love to see you do Xmas Eve She got up and left me
Since you’ve been doing songs outside of rancid you should do some auntie Christ or devils brigade. Upright bass playing would be cool. I remember that song you guys did with Wayne Kramer was cool too. Maybe not right for the channel though?
How long does it usually take to relearn a song you haven’t played in a while?
Love it Matt! Great video as always 🔥 Would love to hear some more from indestructible and out come the wolves, cheers man!
