    The rear headrests can be removed in addition to being folded, which I didn’t show you! Then you can store them in the storage area behind the seats. Sorry about that! When I filmed this video, The new Ford Ranger hadn’t officially been tested for reviews...but now it has. Can this 2019 Tacoma still be the sales king for mid sizers? Let me know what you think and tell me if you want a Ford Ranger review!

      I'm definitely in the market for mid size right now. And its either the taco or the new Ranger. I did own a ranger overseas with the 3.2 diesel and it was a great truck. I had a quick test drive on the taco last week (limited) and the transmission is indeed a mess. I like the way the interior/exterior looks on the taco. But the back seat is a bit small. But the seat folds flat which is something I would like. From looking at some of the road tests today on the Ranger the throttle response and transmission seem to perform so much better then this train wreak. Just from seeing this video and the ranger I'm pretty sure the ranger will be a full second quicker to 60 if not more. But whats important is the 10 speed in the ranger seems to work as it should. It finds the right gear for the situation. Whearas this 6 speed in the taco seems to search gears or shift early or not hold the overdrive gear and fall back to 4th gear. For me, this is almost showstopper issues. And it may just be the reason I won't buy the Taco. The Ranger is a bit plain but it can be dressed up a bit. My heart really wants the taco. It looks damn good and I love the colors. But functionally, the Ranger is going to destroy this thing in most metrics that can be measured. What I want is the taco with the Hilux 2.8 diesel in it (overseas Toy motor). Can i have that? LOL

      @PrimeAutotainment  5 років тому

      Very well said! I know exactly what you’re feeling with the two trucks! It’s a real shame the transmission isn’t what it should be, it’s kinda scary. Ship a Hilux over here, swap the Powertrain and call it good lol

      I swear my Tacoma doesn’t have any shifting problems ever, it’s a 2018 trd or dcsb auto. Thing is great no matter what I’m doing

      That’s great to hear! I’m not sure what was going on. I tested a 2017 model just like this and don’t remember any strange behavior. Glad to hear yours is good!

      @@michaelpawluk6791 Same here - mine is a 2019 TRD OR DCSB Auto....no issues with shifting either...I bought this about a month ago and have over 5K miles - I travel daily up and down mountainous highway/small road terrain (85%) as well as small town driving. I must say the 4WD capabilities are terrific too. We own a horse farm - on a river (which is flooded at the moment) - and we could not be more pleased with the overall performance/capability of this little truck. I'm averaging 20 - 21 MPG on each tank of gas...that is actually better than I expected.

    Honest review. I got 2017 Off-road 4x4 with premium package. It's been over a year now and haven't regretted at all. Great trucks. Of course not cheap and don't offer some fancy features, but I would take reliability and longevity over anything, plus the best resale value in its category is just added bonus. As for upgrades, I swapped the headlights to HIDs and fog lights to LEDs, also upgraded the stock wheels and tires to 4Runner Off-road premium 17" wheels and Falken Wildpeak tires. I love the truck and will keep it till kids grow bigger then eventually upgrade it to a Tundra (when that gets redesigned).

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 років тому +2

      That’s awesome, I’m really glad to hear that! I’m with you 100% on the reliability and resale value. My choice would be Tacoma for those reasons (even though I nitpicked in the video).
      Sweet additions too...what brand HID and LEDs did you go with?
      Can’t wait to see the new Tundra...I think it’s going to shake things up! Thanks for sharing and enjoy your Taco!

    I bought one (profile pic) which is the best purchase I have ever made. No issues, is beast when off roading, and is great for towing. I live in the city so a small truck was perfect. Never really care what people say about the transmission - it’s not that big of a deal. You’re sitting in a commanding seat and the truck is itching to go off road. Changed headlights and fogs to LED and added ditch lights. This truck should last 15 years+. The car has Bluetooth and nav what more do you want. Spent $240 on changing all 6 speakers which sounds better than JBL package.

      ENJOY - I bought my 2019 in Jan - I already have 15K on it...I drive a lot and we own a horse farm (on a river) so I use it a LOT (the 4WD capabilities are TERRIFIC and the Crawl Control is NOT a gimmick). I have 4 vehicles - this is actually the least expensive of them and it has turned out to be my favorite vehicle BY FAR. One thing that you may want to consider is the glove box and the center console organizer - they helped me a lot. Get it out in the woods and use it - you will love it.

I had a really good trade and bought the stripped down version of this, meaning no leather or heated seat, nor the tech package with the fancy GPS. There's nothing disappointing about not having LED headlights or rear
    drum breaks, none of these reviews seem to talk about the quality and
    how well built the Toyota's are, my new Ford was a rattle bucket the day
    I brought it home and after driving a new Colorado I'm really glad I
    now own a 3rd gen. Tacoma...best truck ever and I've had many!

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 років тому

      Even though adding LED or HID isn’t expensive, they make a big difference. My wife and I both drive Toyota’s and I swapped the halogen for LED and it’s so much better...in 2019 I’d expect that to be offered since the base model Corolla even gives you LED. The brakes aren’t a big deal to me either though.
      Can’t argue with Toyota quality that’s for sure! Happy to hear your experience with the Tacoma!

      Thanks for the sub! And glad to hear about your new truck! I got the “cougar motor” brand LEDs on Amazon. BUT...if I was going to do it again I would probably get HID because I hear they are better aftermarket if you have projector housing like this does. In my province of Ontario, Canada this truck on the dealer lot is $57,000!!!! That just insane for a truck without even power seats, rear drum breaks need to go, front locker needed, auto start needed, Toyota needs to step up their game if they want this truck to stay in the #1 spot

      $57,000 in Ontario????? (BTW everyone...we are talking about the Canadian dollar here...which as of this writing, is worth about 75 cents US)
      Move to BC my friend....I just bought this exact same truck without the leather seats upgrade for $40,500 C (that’s equivalent to 30,600 US) in Surrey. The leather upgrade option for theTRD OffRoad was an additional 4K if I remember which I did not like, as it wasn’t really a true full leather...the centre is fabric.. I’m getting a local installer to install full custom Katzkin leather for 1700 bucks.

      Even without the power seats and power folding mirrors and with drum brakes and hard plastic interior...it just felt more of a real truck capable of so much more real truck ability, especially off road. I think the Ranger is going to cater to mostly wannabee off roaders who will end up never leaving hard pavement.

    Great, unexpected review! I’ve always loved the Tacoma. I always like driving them when we get them at the lot (although I will say I like the 2005-2014 body better). I really like this blue color, but the burnt orange is my all time favorite. I totally agree with your view on the seats. That’s my main complaint with the truck . I also don’t think the interior is as nice as the older design either. The Tacoma needs a redesign, but it’s legendary reliability, durability, and resale value will keep buyers coming. I like the fact that the safety tech is included. GM makes you buy a high trim to even be able to option it in on the Colorado/Canyon and the Ranger will probably be similar. If I was buying one, I think I’d get a burnt orange TRD-Sport with the 6-speed manual. I like the looks of the new Ranger and can’t what to see what it’s all about. Get us a review!

    the reason the rear brakes are drum is for off road use to keep the sand, gravel, stones out of brake calipers which is a very big issue when off road, drums are better in this application and factory testing shows their to be little difference in stopping distance

      M D sadly the 2020 will still have the old 80s drum brakes and that weak 3.5 v6. The only upgrades are electric seats and Apple play in the sound system. 50k to boot! Too high of a price for so little. Toyota has officially pissed me off with their audacity.

    I’ve always loved Tacomas, and I was on the fence with my decision between the Tacoma and the Frontier Pro-4x. I ended up going with the Frontier, and I’m very glad I did. I love the Taco, and it looks great, but it didn’t have everything I wanted without going full-size.
    Cost wasn’t an issue, as the Pro-4X I got was roughly the same price of similar TRDs in my area. But I found that I would be paying for items in the Taco that I didn’t want, while missing certain items that the Frontier already had.
    I didn’t like that the Tacoma has a plastic/composite bed, but I liked that the Nissan’s bed is steel.
    I definitely didn’t like the seating position in the Tacoma, but the Frontier fits my height much better.
    Also, the Taco is underpowered for my tastes. I live in an area with a lot of steep hills, and coming from a ‘97 Ford with a V8, I prefer something “punchy”. The Tacoma’s power really felt slow and outdated.
    The turning radius and the lighter steering in the Tacoma are better than in the Frontier, in my opinion.
    I’m sure the Ranger and Colorado are nice, but I’m not a fan of GM or modern-day Ford. Too much tech that’ll just make it hard to maintain 15 years from now.
    And before anyone wants to bring up “Nissan transmissions”… the issue that Nissan had with their transmissions was solely from the CVT units they put in their cheap cars and crossovers.
    The Frontier has never been equipped with a CVT.
    Also, from 2010 and up, Nissan separated the transmission cooler from the radiator, which prevented potential issues there.

    $50k for a 2020 TRD Pro Tacoma that has a 1990s interior, drum brakes, horrible seating position, horrible fuel mileage, and street tires. I get the whole reliability thing, but there are a lot of options in the midsize market that offer way more for your money. The only reason why these trucks hold their value so well is tribalism.

    That was a great review, thank you. I'm considering the Tacoma, but I think I may need to explore some of the other mid-size pickups now because I just want a reliable truck with 4-wheel drive. • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 років тому +1

      Thank you! I know if someone that just recently got a loaded Nissan Frontier 4x4 for a good price. It’s got a solid Powertrain. I like the GM midsize trucks...they have a good balance of features and capability. I haven’t heard much about their reliability lately so don’t know how they are doing in that regard.
      Depending on your desired features...you could move up or down the trim line for the Taco and it’s still a super solid 4x4. My biggest thing with the Taco is the way the transmission acts sometimes...but it’s something you get used to. Good luck with your search! Another thing...I think the GM trucks offer an “Automatic 4x4” mode that engages 4wd the second it senses slippage then disengages it when not needed so there is no binding or damage. I found that system really helpful up north with patchy ice and snow roads where full time 4x4 wasn’t necessary. Tacoma doesn’t offer the automatic 4x4 mode. Something to consider

    I love Toyota, I have had 2 Tacoma’s. A 99 and a 05 and loved them both, but that being said I was so frustrated with the 3rd gen because of how lazy Toyota is. Projector headlights, drum rear brakes, horrendous driving position with no power adjustments. JBL so called “premium” sound system is gutless, and don’t even get me started on the 3.5 Atkinson v6. The v6 has ample power for daily driving, but coming from the 4.0 it’s a night and day difference how much slower the 3rd gen is. Plus the transmission just wanders. I ended up in a 2018 4runner, because I just refused to pay 40 grand for the new tacoma with all these shortcomings. I didn’t mind it in the 99 when I paid 18k and the 05 28k, but Toyota needs to step the fuck up because the midsize market is getting competitive again, and if their not careful they could end up at the bottom.

      18k in 1999 is 27k today. They also didnt have as many tech or safety features.
      Not saying they arent overpriced but your point of spending 18k in 99 doesnt help your argument.

    • @jakerton97
      @jakerton97 5 років тому

      GTboosted you completely missed my argument, it’s not entirely about the price. In 99 the Tacoma was not the leader in tech and safety, and my ride quality was horrendous compared to the ranger and Dakota that I was looking at then. But what made the Tacoma appealing to me was that it was the cheapest. In 05 the Tacoma was really the only midsize truck that was worth a shit, and plus the price was low. Now rounding third base here and getting to my argument. The midsize market is really competitive now, and there are other trucks that are a lot better especially the Colorado. I damn near bought a Colorado because I was so impressed by that truck, substantially more room in the cab, powerful v6, power seats, apple car-play, cooled seats which isn’t even an option on the tacoma. I live in Florida where cooled seats are essential in the summer time, my point is the Tacoma is a good truck, but it could have been the best if Toyota really put their all into it. Plus the trd off road I looked at was 41k msrp, but I could probably get it for 35 or 36 but the competition offers a better daily commuter for the same price. Because if we are honest everybody spends 70% of the time on the road.

      You should do fine. Have it rust proofed every season so there will still be a truck to enjoy later. Ahhh! I hope I catch you before you buy the white one. I really regret buying a white vehicle 3 years ago as the brake dust leaves spots all over the paint that looks amazingly like rust spots. It's a pain in the ass to remove and looks like shit. I'm never buying a white vehicle again.

      That’s tough to tell at 6’3”. I would imagine it would be tight for you but it would be best to try one out yourself. As for snow I haven’t driven it in snow lol. Too bad 😕

    Ok I’ve heard there is a problem with the automatic transmission, late shifting or something along that line

    Why does every reviewer seem to get blueballs and bitch about No LED lights don't they realize they blind the shit out of normal people???
    From my experience they're like permanent high beams.

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  4 роки тому

      They’re only blinding if they aren’t aimed properly or out into the wrong type of house (like old reflectors) where it stays light everywhere. New headlight housings have strict cutoff lines to prevent light from blinding people. LED and HID give so much better visibility and distance

      I'm less impressed with my current trucks fuel economy than I was with the Tacoma's gutless 3.5L. I could live with it but it sure could be better. My wife's Kia with the 3.3L is much more lively and Honda Ridgeline is a beast in comparison. Tacoma has a decent recipe but some of the ingredients just don't add up.
      Needs more torque in the engine
      Needs more gears in the transmission
      Needs slightly higher payload
      Needs an inch or two more headroom
      Needs steering wheel mounted volume controls changed
      TRD Sport needs hood scoop delete option
      Needs better infotainment system and make premium sound available in lower trims
      Needs to lower the front nose area by the grill. The truck feels bigger than it is because of that big flat front.

    So what you’re telling me is that the Tacoma is an old, outdated truck with terrible fuel economy, a seating position that hasn’t changed since the 1980’s, it’s the last truck left in America with drum brakes; but yet you can’t find a single bad thing to say about it! How much did Toyota pay you to make this video?

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  4 роки тому +1

      Lol I talked about the outdatedness, the seating position, the infotainment, the plastic, the drum brakes, the transmission.....I even made a video talking about the 5 things I like AND don’t like about it....I’m not gonna harp on just the negatives

    I have a 2017 Tacoma limited with a 3" leveling kit which the dealer installed during break in I did have issues with the transmission I ended up switching to s mode to manually shift up. Think I might upgrade to a 2019 off-road model if they can provide it with a leveling kit. I did have to install airbags on the rear suspension so the truck would carry my 2018 can-am XMR650 quad
