I spent a very enjoyable two hours on my back porch in the sunshine trying your tutorial. My painting doesn’t look much like yours, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful video. I love Rembrandt paints. I really love their Ultramarine Blue Deep. I'm an impressionist and paint in impasto. No medium needed as they are creamy right out of the tube.
Wow, this is so beautiful and vibrant. I am also learning to look at photos differently now. A beautiful photo may be a really bad reference one while a normal looking one just like yours is a fantastic one. Thank you for another lovely lesson.
Thank you for this video, Im in the process of switching over to oils and have been researching the different brands. This video has been very helpful. I will definitely add some rembrant oils to my list
Thank you. When there are a lot of greens in the scene. letting a little red show through will reduce the green dominance. Also a hot earthy scene, like a desert, will harmonise the various colors.
Thanks for all your lovely sunny paintings, and really clear information. I love your no fuss approach. Having just purchased some Cobra paints I I am not clear about how to tell when oils are dry?
Thank you Jillian. Those are waterbased oils? I am not that familiar with these paints, but best suggestion is to do a painting in one session and monitor drying time. If it is dry to the touch or no marks are made when you do this, then it is ready for retouch varnish.
wow. this is simply amazing. You make genius look like child's play. Such joyful colours.Where could I purchase them? Are they available online. I would indeed love to experiment with these oil colours.Thank you.
Hello Malcolm.. I know the video is about rembrandt colors but I was just curious about whether you use thick edge stretched canvas 🤔 I am having tough time storing all the stretched canvas paintings, hence the question! 🙄
How do you spread the paint without solvent or oil? I tried to work with heavy body oils but I couldn't easily spread it. Is it due to my synthetic brushes? And second question is do you recommend any non-toxic solvent for oils ? I have to paint in my home ( I have no studio) and the toxicity is big problem for me. Thanks. Geeat painting by the way!
Thank you. Most modern oils should be soft enough to work without mediums. Yes synthetic brushes are the likely problem. Try genuine bristle brushes. I have a few videos on that on my channel. There are non-toxic solvents like Maimeri Eco medium. Also Maimeri Eco brush cleaner. You can also try waterbased oils by Windsor and Newton or Royal Talents range.
That's a pity - I can't use oil (allergy to some ingredients). These paints in your hands seem so vibrant and easy to use (comparing to my acrylics at least). Thank you, Malcolm
@@MalcolmDewey I am living in Tbilisi, where there are no good paints. Besides, there is a tough economical situation..... I try to find the best option (for me) to continue creative work. Your demonstrations and comments are of big help. Thank you.
Even though I use acrylics I’m so glad I watched this to see your brush strokes. You make painting look loose look easy.
Thanks so much 😊
I really enjoyed watching this video and I definitely order Rembrandt oil paints soon! Thank you very much for sharing

Lovely!
New subscriber to your wonderful channel! Thank you so much for your expertise and time. 💕
Thank you 🎉
very nice demo thanks for sharing! :-)
It's a pleasure, thanks.
This is so amazing! Thank you for the info on the type of brush to use! I get it so wrong by using the wrong brush! What size are your favourites?
6 and 8 are used the most.
Another great painting,I noticed the red underpainting or red canvas?,sure made it pop.👍🏻🎨🎨🎨🎨
Thanks, it's a good practice to do that.
@@MalcolmDewey you're welcome🎨👍🏻❤
Wonderful! Out of curiosity - when would you recommend a red undercoat, as you've done here?

I may add that a week is usually fine for my oils (warm climate)
Thanks a lot, will try your recommendations. Should be interesting,...literally watching paint dry!
Why you had under painted in red? It came out very great!
It is an option. It can show through in places or just remove the cold white canvas.
Thanks! I will try red then!

Thank you 😊 yes they are well supported worldwide. Probably online is easiest as not every basic art shop carries a large range.

Most of my paintings are on MDF panels. Some with canvas stuck on and others without. Much easier to store and transport.
I like how you took a rather ugly reference and turned it into a gorgeous painting.
Thank you!

What make brushes do you recommend - I keep buying different ones but they don’t last long!
I have a few videos on this, but daler Rowney or Raphael brushes mostly.

There are waterbased oils that are very good. I cannot source though so not familiar with them, but many professionals like them.

Royal Talens makes Cobra water mixable oils and they are very good
Enjoyed the painting but would never spend that much money on paint and get great results with paint that is a quarter of the price!
Sir whats the first tone red usege ...
It is Naphthol red acrylic to tone the panel.
What was the actual paint time for that piece?
About 45 minutes
