I'm glad I've found this video.Thank you Malcolm for your clear and professional explanation. I've always been afraid to varnish a painting. (remember Mr.Bean and Whistler's Mother 😆😂)
New subscriber here. Thank you so much for the nice instruction. I will be using Gamvar soon to varnish my 2nd oil painting that I have ever painted. I gave it to my mother-in law and luckily, she loves the painting, so I am in her good graces. I look forward to catching up on your past videos and watching on Fridays for your new videos.
So pleased to see this video. I have used spray varnishes but wanted to try the brush method. I was a bit wary as I didn't know the right way to do it. Now I do so thank you very much.
Thank you Malcolm! I was just searching for how to varnish a painting and was about to buy a gloss one but I definitely don't want it so glossy that you can't photograph it.
I sure did love this presentation, when it comes to oils,I shy away from them, will not rule the out though.I want to try them in a art journal first, just to get use to them.,now how to dry in a journal. 👍🏻🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨❤
Thanks Malcolm for a great demonstration on how to varnish oil paintings. Makes the varnishing itself, a much less daunting process for me. I have been a bit hesitant with a brush on varnish up to now. I have trouble determining how much is enough to apply of it (end up either too much in lumps or not enough to cover the whole painting sufficiently)?
Thanks Malcom. Beautiful painting too.
Thank you. Very good video. Short, clear and extremely useful!:)
Thank you!

Excellent, thanks Esther

It's a pleasure
Thank you, I will get some. I’ve never varnished any of my oil painting because I was afraid.
Varnishing is very satisfying 😊

Yes a bit scary at first 😊
Hi Malcolm! Does one wash the brush afterwards with soapy water, and should it be coated in oil to keep the bristles soft for next use? Thank you 🌸
You can wash it off as you say, but do not apply oil afterward. Just let it dry bristles up.
@@MalcolmDewey thank you I did exactly this. First time varnishing my oil paintings 🌸
Hello! Do you use the retouch varnish as a final varnish? Or do you varnish it again after half a year?
I use it as a final varnish. It can be renewed a few years later if possible, but I find this seldom necessary.
Is the Re-Touch Varnishes for Acrylics too?
I use this for acrylics and it works fine. You get water based varnishes for acrylics, but I prefer the retouch varnish.
