I built several v-dub engines in my living room. Very clean conversation pieces 😁. Then on test day, ran like hell😂

Living room is for real the best place. A bit surprising to visitors but they get over it 😂

This helps a lot, thanks. I was wondering what just a drop spindle would look like.

Glad to help. I was wondering the same, along with how it would handle. Turned out I like both. Stock beam, drum brakes

Well one good thing about the heads taking so long to get here is that you had a chance to put the drop spindles on. Looks waaaaay cooler 🤙.

On one hand, I appreciate finding good from the bad. On the other hand….Where’s my heads!

Hey thanks brother! I'm contemplating a spindle drop. Done a 1 inch "cut and turn" drop on the beam to level up the stance, but now I've changed my front tires from 205 down to 185 width (on a 7 inch rim) I've got a bit of playroom under the guards which are widened anyhow.
Thanks for the video. good to see what it looks like.

Man that’s some extensive work! Wider tires with widened guards probably look stellar. It’s funny how we always want to go juuuuuuuust a lil lower

Good video! I wondered how much it would affect the clearance. Bro you definitely need to get new tires before you drive "Jimmy" anywhere, they are really unsafe! thanks!

Glad to provide the info. You’re right, the front tires gotta go!

king pins seem to last forever vs. ball joints . I have put 7-8 sets of ball joints on Rambus .

Tell me about it. I haven’t done that many ball joints, but it’s a PAIN! Especially the older ones. King and link pins aren’t a cake walk but you’re right, at least they last awhile

@@bomberobus even if you keep them greased , every 80,000 miles they will knock when you go over a RR track or a pot hole . If you have a press and torch once you get the arms off it aint bad .

Hi, I’ve also put on 2 1/2” dropped spindles, fitted 145 tyres otherwise the 165s would rub on the guards, but, now after getting the front end alignment done, when I turn into a corner the steering is stiff, it wasn’t stiff before the change. Any ideas? I’m thinking to put the original spindles back on. Plus the rear end is bouncy with dropped spindles. Please help.

Maaaaaan it depends on what else they might’ve done at the alignment shop. I’ll say that it is very few shops that know how to align these cars. Does the steering wheel turn same number of rotation from left to right? Did they mess with your stabilizer? Did they mess with your tie rods? Did they adjust the gears on your steering box? Each one of those things needs to be scrutinized. I’d take it back to that shop and go over each of these issues. I’d be sad if it doesn’t work out for you because a Bug with stock beam and good drop spindles should still steer and ride perfect….while looking a little bit cooler.

Meant to ask what tires did you go with

Found some 155/60 r15 from Tirerack.com. They’re Vredestein quatrac 5’s made in Hungary. They turned out perfect for a simple drop spindle drop on stock beam with drum brakes. No rubbing at any time
