- In today's video, we will be going over the various features of the Boeing 747 to get you up in the air with as few problems as possible, which is unlikely with the current state of the plane. Like the A320neo, the cockpit may seem overwhelming at first, but once you figure out the basics, it's a lot less scary.

Yes, indeed, I just updated FS2020 a couple of days ago and started a long haul fligth from SPJC to LEMD so I did guess everything would be ok but ... after 10 hours in fligth speed and altitude controls were very unstable ... :) ... MS please fix it!

I just attempted a Vancouver to Seattle flight, made it with IFR almost to the last waypoint and then the plane started breakdancing midair and crashed itself lol
@@JakobeOG It's so crazy that this game has been out so long and it's still being funky. Is hopefully fenix and PMDG won't run into issues.

I’ve tried flying this pos quite a few times. The AP painfully bad. The 320 is at least flyable and you can go intercontinental with it, did a flight from KJFK to de Gaulle without much issue. Though I thought many times that I’d have to divert to Ireland or Heathrow for gas. De Gaulle may have given me a number to call though, I may or may not have landed on the wrong runway because my ILS wanted me to

For some reason I keep having an issue with the altitude hold, let’s say I set it for 18,000ft, it will climb steeply to like, 20,000, and then down to like 10,000 lol and it just keeps going back and forth but refuses to hold at 18, the plane feels like a dolphin swimming through the water lol, anyone else having this issue?

@@jason4485 Don't use the VNAV, if you want to fly for example FL310, set FL320 climb with Vertical Speed, shortly before Fl310, set it to +0. It will hold the altitude and not change to altitude hold, since it wants to clim to 32.000 worked for me
This could also be ice, it messes up your autopilot so be sure to activate anti ice

Have you noticed that auto pilot is broken on a320 and 787? Also taxing 787 is nearly impossible.
They both work well for me, the 787 and a320 autopilot is perfect for me. The 787 is not that difficult to taxi too

You have to be on modern instead of legacy that’s why the big planes don’t work
to fix the swaying thing switch your flight model to modern and it shouldn't go right to left
I've had the same issues. The aircraft goes up and down like a roller coaster.
The BIGGER issue for me is the range. For some reason, even with 100% fuel, I can only get about 5,000 miles or 10 hours of flight time, WAY below it's actual range. Not sure what the heck is going on. Anyone else have this issue?
Was hoping you'd do a video soon on using the planes menus. Say you miss an approach, how about a tutorial on how to update flight plan?

Yeah I'm fairly new to flight sims and a complete novice to flying in general. I tried to fly both the standard airliners and even I could tell that it surely couldn't be right.

MFS2020 has focused on and created a wonderful real world arena for builders such as Aerosoft, PMDG and others to bring it to life with realistic aircrafts; give it a few. This is just the beginning. We will see wonderful paywares hitting that sim in rapid successions. And believe me, they are rushing to get them out.
When using 737, 747 and 787 I have a problem with the trim.
Is there a workaround?
I trim it like the Cessna but it doesn’t affect at all.
Did you ever manage to make the reserve tanks in the 747-8 work by any chance? I always get a flame out instead of the tanks being used.

Thanks for the vid, I did exactly as you did, I hit the localizer on the diamond and that was going smoothly. I then hit Approach on the second diamond and it was going perfect up until it had to turn for the final stretch then it just spun in circles and went crazy. Would it help if I only hit approach when I'm dead centre on the runway or is it just a matter of being lucky with this buggy mess?
I should mention that I was using LNAV and I was flying at FL30 at 170 KTS
@@Bokken2006 so unfortunately that’s a bug that happens because the approach isn’t that well done. Best procedure is if the plane starts to go off course, turn of autopilot and land it yourself, which sucks, but it’s really the only thing you can do

Did you try flying above 30,000ft? I can't get my head around why the airplane loses speed beyond that altitude and stalls as I approach 40,000ft, even though autopilot applies maximum thrust with vertical speed of 1000. Am I missing something? Cause from what I've read, that is normal cruising altitude for 747
Does FLCH mode not work at all? That's meant to be the correct method of making the plane climb to a certain altitude. I haven't touched the 747 in MSFS much :P
It does work. Been using it with the 747 just fine.
Remember, this Is a default sim. All these planes are stock and plus PMDG is already working on their planes. I’m not really surprised. But I also fell like this sim flys more realistic them X Plane and P3D as those sims make you feel like your flying on rails.

The other 2 airliners are somewhat acceptable, but the 747 is a complete joke. 250 knot rotate, autopilot being completely bugged out and nearly unplayable, and of course the god awful fuel burn. It shouldn't have been released in the initial game in that state.
X Plane doesn't make you feel like you're flying on rails, but P3D does. The GA aircraft of FS2020 is well done(not all, of course), like the C152. However, the jets are a different story. Bugged autopilots and mostly INOP systems. The default X Plane 737 had more working switches than the default FS A320.
Has anyone else had the problem with the purple diamonds not showing up in the flight display for loc and GS? It only happens sometimes.
Now when you take of in the 747 it gets stuck at 100% throttle and it is impossible to reduce the engine power. Internet is full of people complaining about it and still nothing gets done... MS do not have a habit of fixing things, FS98 still has the same bug where -0,0001G will obliterate your plane instantly. FS2020 is pretty to look at but it is a disastrous mess in all other aspects, just like Windows 10...
You need to turn off auto throttle. There is a switch on the plane on the panel or you can switch it by hitting the small black lever right of the throttles. I also recommend you set the assist to hard because for some reason it seems more manual to me
Anyone know my 747 takes a nose dive when it gets closer on approach? Could it be icing? Pretty sure my barometer was correct.

frequency doesn't work and I put the number on it latter disappear don't know why? I have a lot of trouble flying this aircraft 747-8- and I created someone flight plane in UA-cam and it didn't work as well as they did, don't know why?
For some reason sometimes the diamonds for the ils don't show up. If I reload the flight for the same ils then the diamonds show up again.

I'd like to know why it auto throttles up and down when I don't want it to. Pretty sure autopilot is off.. anyway maybe I should listen first.
The auto throttle will live its own life after re-engaging it for the next flight; SPD mode is forever active 🤕
Tutorial to land A320 please!
I did make a tutorial on the A320, but did not cover landing. In saying that, the A320 follows similar procedures (just less annoying) than the 747. Just hit approach when you hit the transition on your descent and you'll be good to go
How can you freely move in the cockpit like you do?
pideri arrow keys to move, mouse to rotate and zoom
"translate camera" up, down ,forward...ect, . . . . .. those are the key bindings you're looking for.
Idk what you all are talking about I can use autopilot without a problem 😆. Maybe you just need to learn the controls
Whats the difference between LNAV and NVAV?
VNAV is supposed to have the plane automatically adjust your altitude based on the flight plan, but I believe it is broken in the game right now. Which is well enough since you typically just do what ATC tells you with regards to altitude
how do you move the camera freely in the cockpit?
Hold right click and move with the mouse
Also use the arrow keys to navigate through the cockpit
Get a decent throttle/flightstick. Twcs throttle seems best bang for buck and has a nice mini stick for in cockpit viewing.
So.. this is what happned 747 is unflyable rn i set a flight plan from toronto to Jfk smooth takeoff autopilot set lnav auto throttle set altitude hold set on 12000 . I pause the game and come back unpause then autopilot yanks the yoke 90' to left despite bank limit at 5' took manual control went to 2000 ft then 17000 regains control align with flight plan set autopilot correctly! Turn it on it proceeds to nosedive and bank at 90' regain manual control and gain control this tym autopilor does no effect but plane is full manual control despite autopilot on. i reset everything try autopilot again proceeds to nosedive and crash on some highway below. Also everything related to ils approach is crap. Im done broo Microsoft i want a refund. Il stick to xplane 11.

There are a whole lot of adverse comments I agree with: my own list of problems is long. The first thing we need to do is stop thinking in terms of "game" and think "simulation" (or "replication" if you prefer that term). Microsoft and Asobo need to do the same - why hasn't Microsoft after so many years in the genre not understood we want a simulation - not a game? For those who do want a game then I suggest you go elsewhere because there are alternatives that would satisfy your wants.
Now we have a very spectacular platform but with more bugs than a cockroach infestation and why is that? Because everyone is in "game" mode mentally, from the Microsoft people to Asobo - otherwise we would not have this buggy "thing" that has raised my blood pressure to dangerous levels. So what is the point of simulation? It is an attempt to replicate the real thing - so come on people, let's replicate the real thing and get away from this mindset of "it'll do" and "close enough". And another thing for developers … please ask what your potential customers want and need, not what you think they want and need, or what they will accept. Microsoft should know surely that it is a bad business strategy to set out to fail (remember Microsoft Flight?). In the Vietnam war my government gave us a weapon they developed that was absolutely useless for infantrymen and we refused to carry it - they never asked an infantryman what he wanted and needed. Here we are now in the 21st century still being forced to accept inferior products … perhaps the planet really is in decline.
Absolutely. The primary issue is that mircrosoft and asobo really don’t care what we think. They made a consumer friendly flying game that they called a sim so people could go in and experience. Unfortunately any actual simulation is put on the backs of the community, which is pretty unreasonable. I think they should have waited to release until the airframes were more refined, but that’s just my thought
Lets be more honest mate! MSFS on the whole is a disastrous buggy mess, sold to the public by false advertising and deceit! If I had to do it again I would'nt want this trash if they were giving it away for free!
10 days of trying to fly these f'ed up planes and I've decide to quit and go back to FSX until they fix this mess. What a let down that msfs is so incomplete and buggy. I've flown the previous 4 generations of MS flight sim and none had this bad of start.
The planes fly like RC models, the avionics would ground an airplane, the ATC sounds like poorly translated Swedish or something. Maybe I'll try DSC world until its fixed?
Ok, some issues. The planes isn't as broken as People think. Ya'll just don't know how to properly use the Autopilot. You should be turning both LNAV and VNAV on. DON'T TOUCH V/S. It's barely used in this plane. Especially since you can use APP and LOC to capture the ILS. So let's take the example that Bevo is doing. During taxi, you should be setting your ALT to the altitude given to you by ATC, turn on the LNAV and VNAV buttons (Before takeoff only 2 green lights on the Autopilot header, turn on the F/D, and set the A/T ARM. Taxi on to the runway, flaps can be set from 10°-20° for takeoff. Take off the plane manually and get up to about 5000 ft activate the Autopilot Master and let the plane start tracking your Flight path. Keep the plane climbing and now PRESS (click on) the altitude button. This sets the altitude in the computer. When ATC tells you to climb and maintain FL210 (21,000 FT) rotate the ATL knob till you hit 21,000 and click it again. That changes the held altitude in the aircraft. VNAV makes the aircraft climb without stalling by using the auto-throttle.

@@anorwayer97 so you turn on LNAV and VNAV then set your altitude via the turn button. After you have it set click directly on that rotating button to activate the new altitude setting
Let me clarify the Video is actually really good. I just want to clarify some misconseptions and mistakes that people are making while using different systems in the different aircraft.
I'm not finding this at all. After I climb up to cruise, VNAV starts losing control like there's a positive feedback loop in the autopilot.
I'm cruising at around FL310, so not too high.

It's still crap in 2021 anything Microsoft makes sucks.. I was landing this plane in Oct 2021 and it just slammed into the ground for no reason other then being total garbage.. Microsoft really sucks...
Same now in 2023 whenever I fly the 747 when landing I almost crash it into the ground because it falls like a rock when I'm not stalling. It so annoying

If you're using autopilot with altitude hold on, then the plane autotrims. If not, then I'm not sure. Trim has always felt weird in this game to me, especially on the big planes
