Nice house! Seems like you have most of what you need here. Why are you moving? I'm 67 and my wife is 55. We are thinking of retiring in Thailand. She likes the Chiang Mai area and I'm leaning towards Hua Hin. Rents here in the US are about $1800 a month for a one bedroom. The rent has nearly doubled from just a couple of years ago. I liked Bangkok and Pattaya, but both are just too busy for our taste. If I may ask, what do you do for health insurance? And what type of visa do you have? Thanks, Mike
Thank you Mike! Yes, we love living here. We had the opportunity to live outside of town in a larger house with a larger yard, so we decided to make the move for now. I hear you loud and clear about costs in the US! We used CIGNA health insurance for several years. I believe many also use AXA www.axa.co.th/en/personal-health-insurance. We originally stayed on my work visa as I worked for a local company. You should be able to come here most easily (long term) on a retirement visa. I would suggest that you both come here and travel around to a few places. Hua Hin is very nice with a big expat community and lot's of golf!

I have a 3 bedroom house low interest but tied to a 30 mortgage here in the US. Thailand, Japan, and Philippines are the three countries that I'm looking at and one day may consider moving to while I'm still 60 yrs young 😊

Hi! This is specifically in the San Sai Noi area. Really great area with great access, relatively low traffic, tons of restaurants, and plenty of nice housing and ammentities.
What do you do for the children's school?
The most popular options are international school or homeschool. Big communities for both options :-)

Hi! This is a great place to retire 😁 houses like this cost around 80,000 to 120,000 USD. However Thailand has rules and restrictions around foreigners owning property, so most people buy a condo or just rent a house and don't worry about owning. You can definitely find places to rent outside of town but there is a lot less inventory.
Hi, what would it cost for transportation to Nimman area for example? Wondering if it’s worth it to live farther away and pay for transportation in to the city instead of the higher rent/walking distance. I wouldn’t try driving. Also, do you ever get bugs crawling in the house? Ha. I’d have to learn to handle that.
There are some transport options but not ideal (availability and price). If you're not going to drive, it would be better to live in town. The price difference isn't that big. Yes we definitely get bugs... Pest control every 6 months is standard around here ;-)
